A group of friends and myself were thinking of running a tournament towards the end of February or beginning of March. We haven't figured out all the specifics yet, but wanted to post to which date would probably get the most people there. The dates we were thinking were February 24th, March 3rd or March 10th. The structure will be much like funrun's for placing and such. We were thinking from somewhere between 450-500 point armies. We were thinking for prizes that 1st, 2nd and 3rd would get some sort of cash prize. It would be based on the number of people attending...1-10 people $50, $25, $5, 11-20 people $75, $35, $10, and 20-30 people $100, $50, $25. We were also planning to provide some HS merch and do the bring a prize or $5 entry fee to insure everyone gets a prize. Like I said we are not 100% sure on all the details as of yet, but wanted to post to see about interest in the tourney. Let me know if you'd be interested.

ChooChoo, jacob_jp, and I will all be helping out weesel99 for this event to.
We're pretty open to ideas for the tournament and are hoping to have most of the big details settled over December and January.

2 Words, Team Battles, ;)
4 players, 2 teams, 250 points each, 14 starting zone places, with a 20 point share between team-mates.......oh wait, I'm thinking of someplace else, ;)
If it's Feb 24th, I'll be there, :D

I think I can be there any of those days, and bring at least one other.

Any of those days is fine with me - I'm good for all 3.
And a 2 hour drive definitely sounds better than 4.

We were actually tossing around the idea of a team tourney. What you said could possibly work. I figure it'll stay as a single tourney for now. But I would like to see some sort of team tourney in the future. Plus at only 250 points, only leaves me with 25 after I take Jotun. So if it's on the 24th you think you'll remember my hat :?:

I love the idea of a teams tournament, it sounds like a ton of fun and it would really make some people re-think thier strategies. However, a few problems for logistics, what if we have an odd number of people want to come or people dont come because they cant find themselves a partner. How will the scoring and prizes be awarded? There will no longer be a first place, it would be a team that takes first and second. I see a lot of logistics problems for you guys that would have to be dealt with.

I think it would be better if I just mailed it,
Or we could have a small get together in early January, no tourny, just hang and play.

This is a tourney I may well be able to attend :D
Though I cant promise anything 'till nearer the time, when im physically in Ohio with visa in hand <_<

What is this "honor" of which you speak? Hmmmm. ;)
For sure dude. :D
Im hoping an early feb. arrival; so I'll have to see where it all goes with the missus-to-be. May not be allowed out of the house for a few weeks though (havent seen her since April).
Actually, meant to ask: Whats the HS supply like in CH? My fiancée checked it out the other day, but they only had "Er, Samurai and these other guys, Orms Return - did I say that right? - and this other one with these little guys..."
Presumably you bought up everything else  But do they get stuff in stock fairly timely, or does it entail round trips to other localities? (I think Circleville got a big walmart last year didnt it, if I remember right...)

Agreed. Its interesting in theory I just think a certain amount of people won't attend due to it being a team based tournament and realistically you need at least 8 teams to make the tournament decent.
I'm all for the idea though if one could ever happen. Of course if you guys managed to find enough teams............

I'm also inclined to think that fewer people would show up because they don't have a teammate to play with. Also, it's harder if the amount of people that show up isn't a multiple of four, becuase you can pair people up that didn't bring a parter, but there's a chance of a team and one left-over person sitting out every round, and that's just not fun.
That is something that would probably work better at Gencon (for whoever plans those events, just a suggestion).

I like the idea of a team event myself. Its always painful knocking a buddy out of the tourney. This way you can work together :).

That could definitely work. It'd be fun to play with others on a non tourney basis.

Is there any way that we could do something to appease the people who want a single person tourney and a team tourney? like maybe make it so that once the single person tourney is to the semifinals or something we start a side team thing? just throwing out an idea. i think thatd be cool.
Tiberius
December 12th, 2006, 06:39 AM
Well that certainly could be done, once you do the scoring rounds, the top 8 are matched up (1 with 8, 2 with 7, 3 with 6, and 4 with 5 as partners) and do 2 rounds of elimination with that). Now the part that doesnt work is that will be huge games if we are playing 500 points a piece (1000 per team) how do you make that smaller? I have played team games in the past and it always lasts a long time. You would have to confer with your partner and lose half your army pretty much.

I could see that being viable to. If people wanted to have a side team tournament once the bigger tournament is out of the way.
Edit: I should learn to spell to :/

Once there are more details maybe u could have a poll. They both have pros and cons and diffrent people have diffrent playing styles

You could probably take out the you and just put your boys for the cincy comment :). Sunny Costa Rica...we'll be in Snowy Columbus so ha...wait I don't think it works that way. I would be interested, but you know I don't know if it'd be the same giving out a gold nugget because that's kind of your thing and you not being there, but you're more than welcome to send one

I think a team game is a great idea. Have everyon bring their 250 army and then randomly assign the teams. Some teams will naturally be more powerful than others, but that will all be decided by chance. Imagine the change in strategy when building you team blindly, without knowing what your teamate will be playing.

Like we mentioned before, it would be great as long as the number of players is divisible by four.

I have thought of my next tourney doing something a little different. No cards over 150 pts, no Krav, AE, or Raelin. Just to make people pick totally different armies.
I also thought of having a no range tourney, but I think that would be taking it too far?
The other idea is an all one general army!

I'd have to agree a team game would be fun especially set up like that, but as mentioned if there were only 23 people we'd have an odd number of teams and 1 person sitting out. I like the idea of doing some sort of side thing with teams once the tourney is winding down. Would also run into going up against 2 units of Krav or something like that. I'm going to change the poll to see what everyone thinks. It looks like it's going to be on the 24th of Feb.

Besides, you'd just see lots more Orc armies :D

I understand the probs with team armies so how about we just mix up the types of armies that folks are allowed to use like Hendal said.
Like this type of poll:
400 point No Range
500 point No Range
400 point General Specific armies
500 point General Specific armies
500 point Flagbearer armies
400 point no commons armies
Regular Limited armies (ie No Krav, No Grut, No Large/Huge figures)
400 point Copycat (ie everyone uses the same army decided by poll)
EDIT:
Proper credit for this idea should go to Hendal, ;)

Good suggestions Cupids Art but also include just the standard run of the mill, pick what you want up to certain points following rules of uniqueness armies.

400 point NO LIMITS (ie uniques act as common, )
Regular everyday 400-500 point army, just like every other tourney

I would personally like the general specific armies ideas. We could then give out prizes to the top from each general first, so you don't necessarily have to win all the time to place high.
Or even better, the finals is the top from each general on a big map in a batle royal free for all.
Tiberius

I like the battle royal idea for each general, but we would have to be sure that we had a representative from each general there. Normally not a problem, but I think we were missing a strong einar presence at the last tournament.

Yeah and it'd be awkward if only one person chose a particular general army because they would default to winning their "bracket". I'll be changing the poll shortly to reflect possible tourney formats and see what the general consensus is.

Ok, I couldn't change the poll on this link so I created ANOTHER POLL (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=154780#168313). Hopefully there aren't too many options.[/url]

I finally got around to this thread, sorry it took so long. March 10 is definitely out for me and CupidsArt since we already committed to the Dallas, TX team tourney on that day :D.
I voted Feb. 24, yet Mar. 3 may work for me too, but if all goes according to my life plan, no date in Ohio after mid-Feb will work for me. I finally have the opportunity to follow my lifelong dream of not living in Ohio, so I'm working on making it happen ASAP.

Do you guys have a headcount yet for this thing? If I have some idea how many people are coming, I can make sure the prize table has at least one dice tower - maybe two, if you can pull a crowd.

I live in Dayton and I've been looking for the chance to play a few games of HS. I've stayed up with all of the sets and packs, but I've only had the chance to actually play 3 or 4 times. Just let me know what to bring and where to show up. I noticed the game days are set for Friday, that could be a little difficult for me, but I should be able to work something out with my employer so long as the event starts at 5:00pm or later.
Thanks,
