View Full Version : Female General?

TheRealQ

A Valkyrie General knew that others would follow her here, to Trollsford. That is why she released a poisonous gas into the water. Now they must not only fight each other, but fight to breathe... yet they can only hold their breath for so long...

While researching an answer to a different thread I cam across this and wondered if one of the 5 Generals were female? I kept reading character bio's hoping I would get a gender specific line on each of them. They all turned out male.

Could there be more Generals in the works? Perhaps a female one? Or was there simply an error pronouns? If so, in the scenario or in the bio's?

Excellent observation and question, TheRealQ. If there is not a female general, there dang well should be. Of course, I'd also like to see a squad of Amazon warriors. Maybe even a scary Maggie Thatcher...no, wait, that's just stupid.

At first glance it appears that there will be a squad of Amazon's in Thora's wave. By the coloration though I would guess them to be Einar.

Guess you haven't heard about Jeanne de'Arc?

From Wikipedia:

Joan of Arc, also known as Jeanne d'Arc[1] or Jeanne la Pucelle (6 January 1412 – 30 May 1431),[2] is a national heroine of France and a saint of the Catholic Church. She stated that she had visions, which she believed came from God, and she used these to inspire Charles VII's troops to retake most of his dynasty's former territories which had been under English and Burgundian dominance during the Hundred Years' War.

She had been sent to the siege of Orléans by the then-uncrowned King Charles VII as part of a relief mission. She gained prominence when she overcame the disregard of veteran commanders and ended the siege in only nine days. Several more swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims and settled the disputed succession to the throne.

I've always thought of Ullar as female, mainly because of the whole "Mother Earth" thing, ;)

I remember reading that scenario now, too. I guess at the time I thought that she must have been a vanquished general, or something. It does raise an interesting point, however.
Could there be more Generals in the works?
I personally would be surprised if they released a new general, but what do you guys think would be an interesting juxtaposition to the current ones, if they were to release a new general?

I think if heroscape wanted to have an all powerful general, who could defeat utgar, It would be me.

I have always pictured Jandar being the only female, and i really dont know...I guess when i think of the Generals, i think of Raelin representing Jandar, Taelord representing Utgar, Marcus representing Einar, Agent Carr representing Vydar and Syvarris representing Ullar..........

Jandar is a clearly established male figure. He's in the cartoons and everything!

That having been said, I have made some custom generals. Back before so many waves were out, I thought Undead and such would be Vydar if using the 5 (Sudema proves this correct), but that perhaps Vydar would remain sci-fi weirdness. So I came up with Jaspaar the Mad.
For desert warriors (Sons of Anubis, from a silly slot car toy thingie, before the Anubian wolves came out, as well as some D&D figs), I made up Ishkaar.

The generals, as they stand, cover the following theme archetypes.

Jandar: Truth, Justice and the Viking Way!
Utgar: Orcs and general unpleasantness (has anyone else seen "The Creeping Flesh?") Can you say "Water Clone?"
Einar: History humans.
Ullar: Elfland. Amazing, though, how many Feylund characters went to Utgar! And then, just when you thought they'd all go there (wolves, Dund, Brunak, Krug), the one true Giant (in a setting at least moderately inspired by Ragnarok) doesn't go to the one opposing the Aesir types!
Vydar: Sci-fi and Gun Fu.

What theme would work? My Jaspaar concept is embraced by Vydar; my Ishkaar concept included desert warriors and such which could be Einar, and monsters which could be Utgar.

I thought about a sporty type of general, supporting the Battle Ball figures.

Any better thoughts?

A new general could be in charge of nothing but animals from all the various planets. I'd love to see a grizzly bear chew off Khosumet's face. Maybe some sort of falconry for ranged attacks? A rhino with a charge or frenzy? Pack animals could be common squads...

They had me worried for a while as Vydar was the last one to have the gender revealed on. I was a bit relieved to find out that I hadn't cross-gendered my username. ;)

Remember that the game is supposedly marketed to kids - and generally boys will be the ones interested in the game. Most of them probably still think girls are icky and I'm sure parents wouldn't appreciate their little boys owning little toy figures of half-naked women.

Weren't there amazons on that shelf?

And just to avoid total thread jacking - A female general could command an all female force (not that she would have to...), but how about the amazons and the charlie's angels figures. Or femme force five or whatever they are called. No wait, I've got it! Polly Pocket conversions - Genius!

I have three daughters. There are lots of Polly Pockets lying around. *sigh*

Oh, the infighting that would happen with an all female force. I'm thinking that a female general would have a whole bunch of units like Bane from Batman. Big, Powerful, Dumb, Easy to maipulate.

Speaking of all female fighting forces:

In MechWarrior: Dark Age by WizKids, there was a force called Dragon's Fury (one of 2 or 3 factions led by females). The Elite Dragon's Fury force was called the Amaterasu and consisted entirely of females. Although they had some pretty R rated things in some of their books, they didn't have to worry about it in the game line because they didn't sell figures of the people, just the mechs.

Half naked women? Where did that come from? Why would they have to be unclothed?

Anyway, I've always thought of Ullar as female, and I hope they change her to female if they ever release a figure. I wonder if they were originally going to have her or one of the others be female (as in the scenario) and then rethought it?

Well taking this game from the Norse Mythology it is loosely based on, it appears all of the Generals are gender-confused as all Valkyrie were in fact female!

OMG! This game is part of some sort of conspiracy to further the Transgender Agenda! Now, try to say "Transgender Agenda" three times fast ...

You know, after I posted my sarcastic remark about an all female army, I was really kind of worried about DaevaBlack (sp?) razzing me.

But after what you guys have just said, I'll sleep comfortably tonight!

I also always thought that Ullar was a female general. Can't tell you why.

I would think that they would have at least one female general since that way they would be politically correct.

In Norse mythology, Ullr is a son of Sif and a stepson of Thor.

TheRealQ

Actually Ullar is the one I most suspected of being female as it tends to be Feylund heavy which I believe to be a representation of Aefheim(not sure on the spelling again), the land of the elves. Yet Fey is either a Celtic or Anglican term, and the English "fairy tales" spoke of the elves being ruled by a Queen.

Then I discovered Ull who is the Norse god of justice and dueling, and...patron of agriculture, thereby reconnecting to the mother nature type theme.

The introduction of a new general, if it is to makie any sense at all, would have to come off a splinter faction. The generals are currently generally aligned on two sides (Jandar Vs. Utgar), but the little people are slowly getting strong enough to break off on their own. With some re-organizing going on, it's possible that some bits of one general's army decide they're no leaving their old allies, or not joining up the new Einar-Ullar alliance, and breakiing off on their own.

Utgar has been giving some of his troops a sip from the Wellspring (apparently, it only raises their cost :) ), so it's plausible that some high-ranking Kyrie become a Valkyrie.

I'm not sure it's such a great idea to have a female general field an all-female army. Of course I'd welcome the swarms of female figs, but it seems sort of limiting, as in stupid of her. Like Einar getting only humans from the past (and losing his battles).

i agree with all of this except for Agent Carr, i personally think that there are better people to represent Vydar.

Hmm... I never thought of an of the Generals female, but they should make one! But, not an all female army. I don't like the idea of have Charos break all enemies necks, just to have them say 'OMG! I broke a nail!' I want them to say they broke a nail AND males say "..." HES DEAD!

I think it would be cool if they came out with a sixth female general. It could be some army that comes from some place they didn't exspect. Or some person who raised her own army and became a valkyrie general. I don't think it should be an all female amry that follows her but having it like the others. Also it would be cool if the female general joined jandar and ullar against einar vydar and utgar. :cheer:
