View Full Version : A comment on the poll (being mean)

About a week ago I was at a TRU and talking to the manager there. She had informed me she was an advid player and couldn't wait for wave six to come out in 4 weeks( mid December). I called my brother within about 20 min. of finding out when they were coming out and he posted on this very forum. He was called a liar and his message was erased. Today I look, and just as the TRU rep told me, we only have a couple of weeks to wait for wave 6. I am sorry I did not post a poll about being to mean, but I did not want readers to have to get to page 13 to see this post. ItakeDrake, does not post on here anymore and it will be a while before he does, which is ashame. He is extremely intelligent, a great tactician, and one of the best brothers a man could ask for!

I'm sorry to hear about your brother's experience. I remember that post. :(

This wasn't deleted:
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=130284
He started a new thread on Wave 6 and it got merged into the already very long Wave 6 speculation thread, that's all.
And the negative response he got was mostly aimed at the clueless employees of TRU, not your brother.
I don't see anywhere in the thread where he was called a "liar."
One the other hand, I don't see where anybody thanked him for posting his information, and if that bothered him, that's understandable.
The people who react with skepticism about any information regarding a release have undoubtedly had their chains yanked plenty of times waiting for upcoming waves to hit shelves, and he should understand that, too.

OK now I see what this is about. Yes I was the one who merged that thread. It belonged in the speculate thread as it was just that ..speculation. But now we find out that the person who posted it thought it was deleted and also thought he was called a liar. I read the thread and nobody called him out at all. In fact he could have easily looked at his own post history and saw that his posts were not deleted.
NOW, This is making me mad right here. If folks want to jump to conclusions about attitudes around here and make something out of nothing then so-be-it. But the truth is we are an extremely inclusive and accepting group. Tell your brother to come back and re-read the thread and see that we are, as always, totally distrusting of TRU employees or any retail employee that is not actually in charge of distribution.

I can echo the sentiments that this group is very inclusive and accepting (sometimes to a fault).

Sucks for this confusion to make a few people upset. I wonder if there is some way to help people find threads after they get merged. It seems like a technical problem.
EDIT: For example, if a thread that was merged instead of being deleted got locked with a link to the merged thread. I think that would be less disorienting and it would scroll of the first page so wouldn't really add to the clutter at all. In fact, I think it works this way on some other boards.

On this site, when something is merged it is absorbed by the destination thread. If it is done early on as this one was, then there is very little confusion. Most folks immediately realize the move as they can see their name on the most recent post or can look it up in their profile etc... The best way to alleviate confusion is to check around a bit before posting and ask a few questions of yourself. Does this post belong here? Does this post need it's own thread or is there an existing thread that could benefit from this added info?

Darn, it's a shame that can't be configured. Ah well. :)

Why couldn't the moderator PM the thread creator telling him that his thread has been moved? This has happened to me, and I was a little pissed about it, thinking it had been deleted also, until I found it the next day in a different section of the forum.
I think the administrators of this site do a wonderful job, albiet a rather thankless one. I just think it would be more polite to let someone know when you move their threads.

Its easy enough for someone to check their posts too. If you think something was deleted or merged check your list of posts. They are in order chronologically.

Could it be set up somehow so that it's automatic? When you move or delete a post an automatic message is sent not from the individual admin, but just an "official message" or something, so that we know about it? If this could be done, then you wouldn't have to worry about joe schmoe replying to you and complaining about why he thinks his post shouldn't have been moved.
If it could be an automatic thing, then I think everyone would be happy. :D

There is no program for that. We could leave a shadow topic but that clogs our forum up.

Yeah, I wouldn't see much sense in a shadow topic. If you're gonna move it, just move it. I'll shut up now.

Thanks Taylor21279 for bringing this forward, so it could get cleared up.
It is always best to get things cleared up and understood then sit and stew or another party thinking all is well. I knew threads get merged time to time ( which is a good thing ) but I never realized it could cause any issues like this.

Taylor21279,
It seems to me that your brother was quick to judge and left this site because he believed we were quick to judge ...
Your brother's post is right here (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=130284#142090), it took all of 7 seconds to find (and I am on dial up) Search = Author "ITakeDrake", select = posts. Perhaps he can come back and start posting again, we won't hold it against him as he did us.
Sucks for this confusion to make a few people upset. I wonder if there is some way to help people find threads after they get merged...
There is, it is called Search (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/search.php). The "How to" is described above.
... if a thread that was merged instead of being deleted got locked with a link to the merged thread. I think that would be less disorienting and it would scroll of the first page so wouldn't really add to the clutter at all. In fact, I think it works this way on some other boards.
I used to do this ... It did, in fact, add way too much clutter. There were multiple 'grey-shade' threads in every Forum.
Why couldn't the moderator PM the thread creator telling him that his thread has been moved?
And, why can't a member use the Search feature or simply read the acceptable content of the Forum they are posting in before posting a new Thread?
There is a small handful of Admins versus over 1500 members. The Admins like to enjoy this website as well as you do, but having to spend half our day cleaning up after, and/or reprimanding those that screw up the website for the rest of us, I for one don't want to have to spend the other half of my day sending PMs after each mess I have to clean up. It comes down to a simple "Your mother doesn't work here, so you're just going to have to deal with finding your own mess after we have to clean it up."

I have a question about this and I might need a moderator to clear this up.
When someone post in a thread, it usually automatically starts sending their email a notification about responses to it, so if a thread gets merged would that notify someone about that, or does it stop watching when they get merged.

Malechi, Kenjib, Grungebob, Netherspirit and the others that have posted, thank you for your interest in my complaint. I was not trying to be hard on anyone in particular, and alot of my anger was because of my brother. After reading the responses given by the admins, I have to say, I am sorry for being so irate. I, like my brother, am pretty new to this site, but so far we have had a great time reading and posting. I am sorry I, and my brother, jumped to conclusions, and I am relieved to see that this will not be held against ItakeDrake. I have followed the instructions given by the admins here, and like them, I too was able to find his post in about seven to ten seconds. Again, I am sorry I jumped to conclusions, and I do appreciate everyone's insight. ItakeDrake will be back, but probably not for a week due to some important surgery he is having. I am glad to see everyones support, and it does my heart justice knowing my brother feels better about the whole situation.

Now that is an excellent read. Thanks for posting that. I'm sorry to hear your brother is having surgery... Nothing serious I hope.

We have to continue to be apologetic, since feelings are easily hurt on a forum. He obviously felt he had something exciting to add and the skeptical response (though understandable) made him feel unimportant. This is going to happen on Forums, though, and when you get more experienced, you learn to take it with a grain of salt. It's only a forum afterall.
I recently got a PM from a moderator apologizing for being critical of my poll. It was exceptionally nice, since I really didn't think he needed to apologize. He was just being honest -- and in fact he was right.
It is a shame, that the person who was excited about this info was hurt at the less-than-enthusiastic response. Hopefully, he'll feel better enough later to rejoin our community, because, really it is an exceptionally well-run forum!

I would tend to believe taking the doubters to your news with a grain of salt is the best idea. Besides, when the news pans out to be true ... You get to rub it in the doubters' faces!
