I know I'm a bit extreme in my comic tastes, but this is my second home, so I have to share these things with anyone who'll listen.
In addition to the comics we all know and love, I'm a big fan of the newspaper comic strips of the first half of the last century.
Get this - much like the DC Spirit Archives and Peanuts series, D i c k Tracy has finally been given the top-notch, handsome hardbound collection!
OH MY GOSH.
I've hoped and dreamed to see this project forever, but doubted it would see the light of day.
I came across the first two volumes on Amazon.
I've not ordered them yet, but ah man, I'm going to wait a bit until they get cheaper. The WWII ere Tracy is when Gould hits his stride with some zany villains, so I can wait on these earlier volumes.
I'm wondering how many volumes this multi-year project will take. Will Eisner's the Spirit has been running since before my kids were born and it's still not complete though getting close.
To explain, DC has reprinted The Spirit comic strips in chronological order since it's beginning.
Fantagraphics is Doing the chrono thing with Charles Schulz's Peanuts and Geo. Herriman's Krazy & Ignatz.
Flying Buttress attempted Wash Tubbs and Capt. Easy ( I have these - frickin' awesome)
Drawn & Quarterly are tackling Gasoline Alley and it appears they've begun around the same time Tracy's series has started.
These are pricey, hardbound collections in color and black & white, depending on how they were originally published. I wonder how they'll do the colored, Sunday D i c k Tracy strips?
Wow. I'm going to plotz. This major news for a Tracy fan.
Any other Tracy fans out here?
