First of all jscadet, welcome... good to have you

Secondly I live in League City as well, so this is good news. As far as the tournaments go, I would say that we probably only have about 2 or 3 a year. We have also been having gameday gatherings about one Sunday every month, also held in League City. It's not my place but with some strings being pulled I'm sure we would love to have you. The more the better.

Welcome jscadet + 1! A Wave 9 tournament sounds like a great idea, let's get one started. Perhaps we can persuade other Houston players to join, I'm in (+1).

A thunderous cloud of smoke descends upon the semi-defunct thread and poof! A Sweetcurse appears.

OK, a but dramatic I know but this thread needs some life. So, back to business are we now? How about a tourney at the end of June? Say the weekend of the 26th. How about it?

Oh, and welcome JS! Glad to have new people. As Prospect said, we have been having a gathering a month every Sunday. We are due for one now, or we can wait and just have a tourney on that last weekend of June.

Any takers? Don't make me pester you all on the phone!

I have been occupied being beaten mercilessly by my wife on SmallWorld. I just got my Wings of War stuff so that is there as well.

Since I'm new to this tourney format, how is it run? Where/what time does it start? About how long does it take? How do we select our armies (or do we just bring a certain point total)? Anyway, we're interested, but I can't reply for certain yet until I can check with my master of all schedules...

Has anyone order from CoolStuffInc? They seem to have the better deal.

Sweetcurse

Donkeroo and I will.

JS, usually, we do this with more time than we are. But, the idea is we will (usually through a Doom Decree) agree on a format. Those usually are things like 500, 400 pts. Sometimes with wacky rules like all fromt he same wave, or at least one figure over 150 or some such. This time we will probably just run a vanilla 500. Meaning bring whatever as long as it doesn't exceed 500 points. We will also have a starting limit of 26 hexes. meaning, your army must all fit in 26 single hexes. Any fogures over 26 hexes cannot be used.

If you all want to try a "Fun" idea, we can do the "Battle of the Planets." Where all your figs must be from the same planet (located on the basic side of the card).

Another idea i to play a "Heat of battle scenario." In that scenario, players take turns placing their units anywhere in the map.

A third idea is to play two-person teams.

So, voice your opinions and I will make a thread in the events section.

Sorry I havn't been on in a long time. I thought my summer would free me up a lot more than it has. I havn't gotten to start on my book again and I've only played Heroscape once this summer. I may be able to go to the tourney but I need more info so I can secure trasportation and the such. I'm hosting a Heroscape tour--er, um, day? On the 22nd of July (a Wednesday) I'm getting a bunch of people together to play Heroscape. It's not an actual tournament but it will be fun. It's for my birthday. Unfortuantely, with the place I plan to have it at, I'm not sure if I'd be able to invite all of you "stranger adults from online". I'll let you guys know if you can come and give place and time later.

EDIT: I did finish my LotR customs, sorta. I finalized all of the stats but don't really have the computer software needed to make the cards (Paint and Word just didn't get the job done).

Ok, so I'm calling it the weekend of the 27th. Either Saturday or Sunday so state your preference. Also, state your preference on whether you prefer tourney or gameday. If it's on Saturday, then it wil run from 11-4. If on Sunday, from 12 to 5. I would prefer Sunday but I understand if the majority chooses otherwise.

Countdown to Doomcree is t minus 24 hours.

Well, we're finally back in town. It looks like the tourney went well. Wish we could have made it - although, it sounds like our tournament inexperience may really hurt (we tend to have hero heavy armies, and it sounds like squads are a necessity). Still, we look forward to being able to play in the next tourney and get our feet wet!

So....Anybody have any thoughts on D&Dscape?

I know that there are numerous threads available for this topic, but it may generate a little conversation and I would like to know what y'all think...

Personally, I have never played D&D, so it may be interesting. I'm withholding my final opinion until I see some better pictures of the figures and read about their stats.

Junge Roman
August 21st, 2009, 06:42 AM
I'm hopeful but concerned. The figures look a little "off." The troll and dragon especially do not fit the same style and quality we are used to. I don't like the fact that the characters are being done like classic characters, instead of somewhat separate like Marvel characters. I just don't buy the whole "this is Classic Scape" line. It just isn't. However, I'm looking forward to the dungeon crawl rules that may be with it. It has potential, both good and bad. I'm a little concerned that we may not get any more real Classic Scape. There are some factions that need to be finished.

DND Scape may be the deathknell for Scape. Now they'll start pushing the DND mini colectable game pieces through. If they don't make it collectable itself.

The potential positive is that it MAY bring in new players.

Still I think it is going to be bad for the game. At least in a year, I'll be able to pick them up for $5 a set.

donkeroo
August 24th, 2009, 10:21 AM
I'm curious to see how the old terrain will be incorporated into a dungeon-crawling themed heroscape.

To me it will be a little strange placing forest and jungle trees inside a dungeon.

As for the longetivity of the DnD-scape, I see this stuff being around a couple of years.

Shake n Bake
August 25th, 2009, 11:05 PM
I agree that the new terrain options could be very interesting. I was talking with my brother today, and he had some good ideas about the "shadow tiles". He saw the shadow tiles as a way of introducing "fog of war" into the game. The omnipresence of the position and abilities of the enemy is something that can be altered in the game. We could see some figures having special abilities while on a shadow tile, such as range restrictions when attacking that figure (must be adjacent or less than three spaces away) or attack bonus (+1 attack die when attacking from the shadow). So, I may get the set just for a few rock piles and shadow tiles...

Hey y'all.

After hosting the Jonathan and Sweetcurse a couple weeks ago, I did an inventory.

I'm missing a squad of Tarn Viking Warriors (which isn't a big deal).

I'm missing at least 2 1-hex grass pieces.

and I have an extra deathreaver.

If you've been at a Houston meet and are missing a deathreaver or have extra terrain that you don't know where you picked up, let me know.

Thanks.

It's mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been looking for the extra reaver forever now. I think I've been missing him since the last tourney at your church.

I do not know if I have your hexes, but an inventory could be in order for me. As far as Tarns, well, I have at least 3-4 squads of them so if you really need some that would be no problem.

Well, I guess green 1 hex pieces only came in master sets... I don't want yours unless you really have extra...

and Tarn Viking Warriors are not a problem. I have two more sets.

As far as the rat, I'll be sure to give that to ya tonight.
Other news about tonight, if you're coming, drop me an e-mail at rjgirardi@yahoo.com if you need my address. You won't need order markers or wound markers. If you have your own dice or dice tower, that's fine, but I have enough dice too.

I plan to have 4 maps set up. I have a large collection myself, but no more than 3 of any kind of unit, so if you're building a swarm, bring some of your own. I have no wave 9, and only a little wave 8. Best way to make sure we have enough for your army is to bring your own.

If you are using wave 9 and don't have the units, you'll need to bring printouts of the cards.

I'll play whatever armies folks want me to, so that you can see what you may face at the tournament. Keep a few competitive armies in mind.

Sweetcurse
October 9th, 2009, 12:43 PM

Sounds fun - $15 for a tourney + open access to a con seems like a good deal as compared to $10 for a tourney and no con. Maybe I'm not thinking about this clearly.

Elflord, would you be willing to take the lead in organizing this thing if it turns into a tourney (or whatever)? Or at least take an advisory role? I've never worked with the UHCL people or tried to run gaming at a con, so a little expertise would be most welcome in this area.

elflord
October 21st, 2009, 11:42 AM
I can gladdly advise but do not have the time to organize. I'm going to be in the dealers room selling used games and sci fi stuff.

The UHCL are easy to get along with. Just let me or them know your needs and we can fill it. They have access to many classrooms so I'm sure we can get one room for ourselves for the whole weekend. I can check to see if they lock so we can leave our stuff there and leave the maps set up.

I also posted on the general Texas thread. Maybe we can use this as a chance for regional play. Hotels in the area are priced from reasonalbe to cheap ($50/night).

Unfortunately Wizards does not support Heroscape tournements with prize support. I had tried a few months ago when I thought to set up a day event.

I can talk to the con orginizers and see if I can can get some prize support or possibly we can get a store to donate support for advertiszing.

They have a facebook pressence or you can contact me at jlach21122000@yahoo.com with any question.

The local Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target all told us they don't carry Heroscape any more, with the TRU guy saying the line had been discontinued. We also hit Third Planet, Nan's, Midnight Comics, and Bedrock City all to no avail. Any suggestions on stores in Houston that carry Heroscape products would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, it is cool to kinda read/hear from some of the people I am vying with to pick up the new Heroscape stuff. Hope to get to know some of you all and maybe play with/against you eventually. Currently my only competition is my 7 year old nephew!

Peace,

Picked up a DnD set, I couldn't resist. Everything is done very well!

Any other locals pick one up?

Got two sets - not sure if it was the troll or the grey tiles that did it. Anyone need my extra uniques?

Hello, everyone.

I'm expecting a DnD set in the mail any day... My brother bought we one for Christmas. I want it for the tiles, but the figs look like they may be fun based on their stats/specials.

I hope to make it to an event soon. I'll have to check my schedule.

I'm purging the house and selling off a lot of my games and collectables. Star Wars, B5, and some 'scape.

I've got at least 2 morro sets NIB and a Heroes of Lindesfarme NIB that'll be going. I posted on craigslist and I have a dealers table at Conjour. I'm willing to trade for other games. If you want a full list (such as it is now) PM me.

Oh, and Rath, I've called Charles a million times but can't get through the cell!

That would be cause we got rid of the cell about 6 months or so ago. We were only using maybe a few minutes every month and it was just to much to pay for something that wasn't getting used. He got your message last night but it wasn't till almost 10pm and he had to go to work. He said to let you know he would try and give you a call sometime this evening.

This Saturday afternoon I have a get together for another game-Mordhiem. I've also got an extra table, so if you want to Scape it, it's a go. Al of my Scape stuff is at my kiddo's Mom's place and I doubt very seriously the cards are still around and how many models survived the Labrador puppy. That means I have to borrow to play.

UPDATE: We ended up not getting a room due to the school not being able to make enought available. HOWEVER, We have a chunk of the open gaming area for ourselves AND my dealer table is going to be set up in that area. So, I'm going to have a map set up and ready to go all weekend. We will be able to move stuff into the dealer area at night which will be locked.

Retail Update - The Wal-Mart on El Dorado has expunged Heroscape from its shelves once more. No more boosters, and the Marvel set is on the clearance aisle for $19. The entire game section has been reduced to a dinky shelf on the back wall that is so small, they have to put all their extra copies of Clue, Monopoly, etc., on endcaps.

Anyone have any luck anywhere else? I've seen a few people in other cities claiming to have found Wave 10 at Walmarts, and apparently the new D&D set is supposed to be carried there.

Perhaps we should actually try to schedule something a few weeks out so people can put it on their schedules.

Ricksta, I'd love to do the small maps with Van Ness rules, but I'm on "baby alert" right now so if you needed an extra player we'd have to do it here.

Sweetcurse
February 9th, 2010, 09:08 AM
Yes, let's have a gameday. We talked it over and realized that tourneys are probably not the best format for our gatherings. People here in Houston tend to have complicated schedules, families and long drives. But if we have a gameday, people can come and go in a set amount of time. This is the way we used to do it and it worked wonderful for a long time.

So, any takers?

Hey guys,

Got a fascinating idea for another scape night at my place. It's going to take some planning.

Sweetcurse
February 26th, 2010, 01:41 PM
Ok, I'll make it official.

Houston Heroscape is Back!

Heroscape GameDay at Jonathan's Saturday, March 6th. Since the second is my B-Day, I will also be accepting gifts of all kinds, deeds of your houses, titles of your cars, entire collections of HS, you get the idea, golden rolexes are the minimum so don't cheap out! Ha ha ha.

Anyway, seriously, I have to establish that day since spring break will be bad for me as my mother in law will not be here anymore.

So, get ready, get your scape and your friends and let's do the scape again like we used to.

This is a gameday, so no hard rules, propose what you want and bring what you want. Ask Jonathan for directions. I was assuming we could do this around 8 or so, or much earlier depending on what Jonathan proposes. Once we get the times decided, I will make an event thread.

C'mon sign up!

6th is good, and we're cool for earlier than 8 as well - I was thinking maybe around noon so Donkeroo can make it. My son seemed to enjoy playing last time, and we'll at least get a game or so in before he wakes up from his nap. Once he's up, I'm willing to play badly if need be.

I was also thinking the 20th might work, if you can make it out of the house that day Sweetcurse, and you're available, Ricksta.

Elflord, you said March was good, but are you available either the 6th or the 20th? How about your buddy?

As for me leaving the house, my son seems to be getting over his phase of waking up randomly during the night. Give me another week or two to gather some good data, and I should be able to confirm an outing.

It's a lateral move, but it comes with 1/3 the current commute distance of 19 miles out west, a slight pay raise, and the intention to promote twice within a year.

Not to mention, if I get to sales manager at any of these properties that this new company manages, I might have control of some pretty nice meeting space in the galleria area.

I am really annoyed that there are two DnD waves in a row with no additional regular waves. If I wanted to play DnD miniatures, I would have bought them when they first came out.

If I do decide to get out of it, I'll make sure you guys get first choices.

Hey guys!
I am new to heroscape, I just recently bought the RotV master set online, and played with my little brother for my FIRST time! I had a blast but my brother did not like it too much. I live in The Woodlands, and I was hoping there were some people close around to play with. I have SotM set coming in the mail right now along with a small expansion (don't know what it is called). I am interested in playing heroscape with people so if anyone is hosting anything around the woodlands or northern Houston, let me know!
Brendan.

Hey, not to put a damper on your zeal to play, but I don't think any of us know anyone on the north side of town. Jonathan's in Spring Branch, I'm between Meyerland and the Medical Center, and a bunch of people are down in the League City/Friendswood area.

And seeing as something in the water around here has given Sweetcurse and Jonathan lots of kids in the past few years, they don't get out much.

Hey guys,
Im from Northern Houston (Spring to be specific), and I was hoping for advice on where to get some heroscape. Ive tried the walmarts in the woodlands because apparently the Walmarts have been putting everything on clearance but I have found nothing. Any hot spots in the Houston area you guys know about?

I hate to say it but it looks like the walmarts I've seen have stopped carrying Heroscape. If you are on face book, check this guy out.

It seems as i the Houston board is dead. Are there still active Houston players these days?

Yea there are still active players, just most of them have to many things going on at once it would seem. Charles, the kido and I will be moving to an apartment complex out by 270,518 and 2094. The game/anime room will be smaller so only can have over about 5 people or so for gaming, but that's not till april first.

Is that south east Houston? I live in the Spring area, I may be able to make it down there every once in awhile.

Any one who lives in the Spring/ Woodlands area still actively playing? My younger brother does not play often enough with me to get my scape fix completely satisfied...

Many of us do have a lot of stuff going on. I know I can speak for Chuckrock, Sweetcurse, Jonathan and myself. Periodically, Jonathan still comes over for our game nights with friends where we just play a lot of eurogames and stuff. It's been a while since the Heroscape came out for anything serious.

Sweetcurse (who lives in Webster) and Jonathan (who lives in Spring Branch) both have very young children, which means that they've committed their weekends. They usually can meet up after 8pm or so on a weekday to play a light game or two... They're both teachers.

As for me, I'm a manager of a Hotel in the galleria area and live in the Meyerland area. Being on-call for much of the time, and working many evenings, I can't do a whole lot to ensure schedule availability. I do come out with schedules with whole days off and nothing to do since my wife works a 9-5 job. I'd be willing to meet up to play.

Just dropping by to try and get a response to a Texas-relevant question:

Is there anyone in the Bay City area interested in a 2 huge boxes of metal, 15mm, WWII miniatures? Tanks, vehicles, and troops. I have a friend out there who used to own a game shop, and discovered the boxes in a closet. Doesn't want to sell them on eBay: too expensive to ship. Any takers?

Sooo, I'm not doing heroscape, but my 9 year old and I are playing Mordhiem and other games. We live in Seabrook, so give us a line if you're game.

I'm also looking into building some Necromunda terrain. I really am turning on to Sci Fi.

We ARE using the models, though. It's fun to take on Charos with Mordhiem rules.

Owlcon (held at Rice University) is this coming weekend (February 15-17). There won't be any Heroscape, but there will be plenty of cool terrain.

My sons and I visited last year and it was really interesting. We'll be going on Saturday as spectactors again.

Hi all - it's been a VERY long time since I've posted. I live in the Clear Lake area. We were all set to join a tournament across from Baybrook Mall (been a few years), but then we had a death in the family and we just haven't been active (that would have been our first tourney). Well, we're back now and just looking to see what's going on in the area.
