Hey Guys, still working on the dets for Monday, but here's wahat we've got going a Chez Rock.

Starts around 1ish and will last until darkish. It will be a mix of geeks and teachers.

Mrs. Rock will fry up some shrimp and I'll be boiling my shrimp up proper like with corn and potatoes.

If your coming, some sides or a dessert would be handy. If you have an ice cream churner, that would be mucho goodo.

Also, don't forget, we have a cement pond and the water is clear, some bring swim trunks!

Do me a fav and do some sort of RSVP.

I've got these folks showing up.....

Saturday Report:

The Overlord (me) destroyed a group of intrepid heroes in scenario 2 of Descent. Alas, they were no match for the Trapmaster.

Several games of Heroscape were also played, in which the Marrden Hounds pwned all.

Some great social interaction took place over a game of Power, Prestige & Politics. The final moments of the game were insane by definition. I'd forgotten how much fun that one is.

Is Scenario 2 the one with the giants? Heinous

Yep. I knew I wouldn't be able to spawn much in that limited map, so I customized the overlord deck with more traps & events, and I was lucky enough to get Trapmaster out early. Then it was a matter of spawning kobolds and dropping characters into spiked pits, etc., over and over. In the last few turns, any time a hero was about to move, I was holding my cards and asking, "Are you moving to that space now?" just to freak them out. Two teenage guys, who were there just for Heroscape, were watching at that point and both agreed, "Man, I want to play the Overlord! That's FUN!"

Okay, the Shindig at the Chateau Rock went very well, indeed.

Now is the time for us to set a date for HEROSCAPE BY THE POOL. It need not be in the pool, but I think it would be wonderful by the pool. School is out in seven days, so how much notice do we need?

Was figuring on doing "Rumble in the Jungle" some time after everthing shows up figured on making one huge jungle map and then having everyone that wanted to come over. 10 jungle sets should be enough to make for one hella fun map. I'm Starting a new job before then though so getting a date up right now is going to be kinda hard at the moment. but in the next week or two i should be able to get an idea on that.

Haha. That's awesome. You have the space for it, too.

I dunno. I'll have a game day in LaMarque probably either the 14th or 21st. But that wouldn't work as well for Heroscape stuff. We'll need to plan something extra to celebrate.

Crap. I just realized... the 13th is a Friday, and this is coming via UPS. Most of the time that I have a UPS package scheduled for delivery on Friday... I don't get it until Monday. There's always a sudden change in the "scheduled delivery date" on the tracking website, but that change doesn't happen until around 4 or 5 in the afternoon.

In other words, my UPS driver knocks off early on Fridays. It's very annoying.

That's funny, and very believable. On several occassions, I think I have seen my UPS driver driving up and down the neighborhood looking for my house, talking on the phone/radio trying to figure out my street. I've tried to wave him down a couple of times, but to no avail. Sure enough, the next day, a different driver who knows the neighborhood better comes and delivers my package.

So is there a Descent game going on? I have to admit, I didn't dig it as much as everyone else seems to. It seemed extremely one sided. I never got the feeling that anyone other than the Overlord was supposed to win or that there was really a lot of choices on what to do.

You guys talk it up a lot, though, so I'm willing to give it another look-see. I expected it to be a beer a pretzels game, which may have been a mistake on my part.

Jonathan, Sweetcurse, Jenny, & Billy (A guy I met playing Twilight Imperium) are starting up a campaign tonight, so we will probably be booked with our current group for a while. You may be able to sit in for someone if they can't make it one day though.

I do agree that the overlord is powerful, but it takes throwing everything you have at the heroes to knock them out. I think part of the problem was that you started out in a really hectic scenario with the cave collapsing and had a slow start. Normally, there is no collapse, so there is a lot more time for the heroes to move around, but if they take things slow, that means more threat for the overlord.

You should give it another shot, I still want to play through the rest of the original scenarios, so next time you are having a get together and want me to bring descent, let me know!

Ditto from here, Chuckster. I'm not part of the campaign, so any time I play it's going to be the original scenarios (which will last me for quite some time). Any time you want in, let me know. The next time I play will probably be the 21st, I think.

Listen, lad. We built this city up from nothing. When we started here, all there was was a bog. Other states said we were daft to build a city on a bog, but we built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the bog. So, we built a second one. That sank into the bog. So, we built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the bog, but the fourth one... stayed up!

My problem is I have too many family and friends. I can't make it past Arlington to drive up to the Oklahoma border where you typically hold those tournaments.

Also, you guys don't really like us all that much. Except for Dr. Livingston...that is...Quid Pro Quo!

Buyer's remorse? I ordered all I need. I think you should keep your extra hero pack, though. The sculpt and paint on Kato, and Chardris and Dupuis to a lesser extent, is just so good that it may be destined to become a classic.

Well, if you are feeling generous, save 'em for the next tourney. I only got 2 sets, but I don't see needing 3 of any of the squads. None of them seemed priced right for that, for my tastes.

On the other hand, you never know if the next exclusive is going to be a repainted Grok Rider or a Redcoat. Your embarrasment of riches may turn out to be a bare minimum amount for you.

Title came from playing the CoN. Someone said that the warriors lost (and us puppets won) and that it was all my fault. The previous title was because I kept getting yanked from team to team on an experimental game where you could steal teammates from the other team and I got stolen a kajillion times. ;)

Scape at J's was great. I only played one game since I had family over but it was very good. 2 on 2, Jonathan and Prospect vs me and my cousin. We played a lot of the new stuff. I had Kato and a ton of Ashigaru, my coz had Sujoah, the 10th, Otonosahi (who never once moved) and spiders. Jonathan had Kights, Dupuis, Thorgrim, Zetacron and the Jandar cowboy. Prospect had Zelrig, two sets of minions and Isamu. Needless to say Zelrig made quick work of three of my squads. My Ashigaru then proceeded to kill Zelrig quickly in return, then his minions. Prospect's Guilty outranged my guys, killing two, but then was gunned down like the coward he is. Dupuis charged my flank but my cousin's 10th took care of him and a couple minions. The last remaining minion rolled crazy defense against Kato who is absolute garbage by himself. Sujoah put the hurt on Dupuis who survived a very long time thanks to Thor's spirit. Zetacron took out a few 10th guys but as shot down by two of them later thanks to a whiff.

The game was a sea of dice failure, comebacks and crazy maneuvering. Very back and forth. We didn't finish all the way but it was looking very good for us. We won technically, but it really could haver gone either way in a few more turns. I would call it more like undecided than a victory for anyone.

Conclusions:
Kato is not so great as I expected. Maybe in much higher point games. By himself he is garbage for 200 points, he desperately could have used counterstrike. Not being able to activate two Harquebus is uncool. As it was, it was a fun concept, and definitely had potential to overrun an enemy. but the ashigaru die so quick ( I lost two full squads on one turn) and Kato is so expensive. Not one I would bring to a tourney, for fun yes, but for a tourney no at all.

Zelrig is very strong, though I still think Nilf is better. Against huge squad armies with low defense like Ashigaru he is cool, but on most situations Nilf is better I think. Sujoah we didn't get to see much since she dies right away.

DUpuis was a surpise, he did very well with knights in tow.

On the same kinda of idea Since I've ordered a few hundred Clix off ebay, and I'm still working on getting the figs I wanted. lets put something together in the next few weeks and also make it a time to trade off clix that we have and others are looking for, Or others want and we have. As of right now I'm trying to get a list together of the ones I want to get my hands on and have for extras. the sucky thing is I'm finding some of the ones I want are uniques.

I'll pop up a list here a bit later on when I get this stuff orgnized. It's such a mess right now it's not even funny.

Well Sweetcurse,

This may account for what went down.

I gave you a full pack of swog/knights to repaint... You (your wife who did an amazing job) painted it, but I still need the shield sticker (which I think Omega was looking for).

Then you were still going to paint me a Nerak. (which you still owe me, and you even promised a painted woo at some point in time when you let me down on something... but I have a real woo, so I don't really care) You asked me what I wanted you to do with the other knights, and I told you that you should keep them or make them the little custom squad that was in the codex to go with hawthorne...

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

It has been kind of dead. You're right.

But in my case, I've barely had much time to hang out here. I'm in the midst of a major project and not only had to not come to your place, I also turned down another offer to Scape Sunday afternoon and this coming Tuesday.

At the rate I'm turning down offers, I'm never going to get to Scape again. :(

Been watching for clearance stuff...

As you know by now, Target won't be carrying Heroscape any more, so I've been watching their stock. They put it and Battlegrounds both down to $27 first, but I knew it would go lower. I kept watching... even talked a kid and his mom into buying SotM one day while there.

Yesterday, I went in and Battlegrounds was marked down to $12.38... and all the SotM was GONE. It got marked down while I wasn't there and immediately sold out. I checked another Target today and same thing... sigh...

Check your local Targets!

I saw the W8 at Kemah yesterday. Finrod, I was keeping an eye out on those SOTM's too! I don't think they got marked down more, only that someone bought them at 27. I hope the BG goes lower than 12 though. They also have the new Risk, though I'm unimpressed with the playing pieces. I will be off today and Sunday...But Sunday I'm going to a Wiggles concert. Go. To. Target. NOW!!!!

Baybrook & Pasadena are empty, but...

Today for my lunchbreak, I drove up to the Almeda Target. It's hidden back behind the mall, so people often forget it's there. I've had some good finds there before.

Plus, I had checked Target.com, and it said they had a few SotM in stock.

I got there and hurried to the toy section. A lot was going on back there. Dodging a few workers, I made it to the games aisle and looked down at the bottom. There was one copy of Battlegrounds, and there's where SotM SHOULD be... but nothing there. Sigh. I checked the price on BG... $6.24!! Okay, I can do that. I picked it up and straightened up.

And my eyes saw the two copies of Rise of the Valkyrie right in front of me, on the wrong shelf... and labeled for $9.99!!!!!

So ignore the website. Go to any Targets you can find. NOW! Before it's too late! (or I beat you there!)

Yea they look good on the shelf but, I need somewhere to put all the marvel clix I've been getting for customs. Since it looks like we won't be seeing more offical marvelscape. (I guess I should wait till after gencon to see if that line is offically doomed. But, it really feels like it's dead already) So it's not like the shelves will be empty, just diffrent figs. As it was I liked marvelscape for it's quickness and it was just more fun to me. Anyway I wouldn't be ditching any of the common squads or heroes just the unique squads and heroes. Not sure what I was thinking have 4 full sets of all the figs (well I do but the wife dosen't seem to mind).

To keep the game going, they've got to focus on other stuff, especially if the movies don't effect sell through.
