Anyone else watching this while they jones for LOST? I caught the pilot - OK, I DVR'd the pilot, and watched it this weekend. I thought it was really good, and look forward to watching more of it.
Thoughts anyone? Theories?

Sorry didnt catch it, it looked like an oversensationalized version of groundhog day.

I wo9nder how long the series can last - I reckon that there's enough material to do 12 or so really good episodes, or 22 mediocre ones.

Yeah, as IMax pointed out, they plan on closing the current plot and answering all questions when the season ends twelve episodes from now. Which I think is cool. Whether or not they're going to continue the show, I haven't really looked into. But I hope not. Don't get me wrong. I was actually impressed by the 2-hour season premiere last week, and saw a LOT of potential for the show to keep me hooked until LOST comes back on. I'd just like this to be a filler, of sorts. Because honestly, once the 13th episode ends, I'm not sure I'll want to continue watching upon they wrap things up.
But it is a good show. And I wouldn't necessarily call it a glorified version of 'Ground Hog Day'. If you think that's all the show, and that mindset is keeping you from watching... change your mindset.
As for my thoughts and theories... THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY!!
Though the one I really hope doesn't take place... is the girlfriend being part of the conspiracy. :( That would suck, and would be too cliche a plot twist.
The shoot-out at the end of the premiere was awesome.

Yeah, it was a really good show. I really like how, when he wakes up, any damage he took the day before sticks with him. Everything else is changed, but he's not - he even has a bullet hole (with no bullet in it!) on the fourth day, after getting shot on the third.
And I love how he keeps discussing stuff he couldn't otherwise know, like when he tells the Asian cop, 'for all I know, you planted that gun in my apartment,' and the cop goes, 'what gun in your apartment?' Or when he tells his girlfriend, after checking his mail and it's empty, 'I'll have to get here early tomorrow morning.'
It has a similar theme to Groundhog Day - waking up every morning and it's the day before - but instead of discovering how to be a better person, he's got to solve the mystery. And if he gets killed on day five... there's no day six.
And you're right. I hope the girlfriend is not part of the plot. I don't think she is, because she had no problem running with him on day 3, and never even tried to stop him. But then, she may have been feeding info to that county cop at the minimart in the middle of no-place, and she never did mention how she distracted the cop staking out his apartment. So I suppose it's possible - I just hope it's wrong.
It is also nice to see Jayne (from Firefly) again. Even if he is a bad guy.

Or when he tells his girlfriend, after checking his mail and it's empty, 'I'll have to get here early tomorrow morning.'
I liked that, also. Especially the part when he's in the dirt pit for the second time, and he starts rattling off information about Garza, and the shadowed figure is stopped cold from prattling off his intended speech, instead asking, "How did you know this was about Garza? Where did you get this information??"
I also liked the wounds carrying over to the following day, and where as previously he had an alibi being with his girl all night. But then, him waking up in a pool of blood with a bullet wound completely killed the alibi ("If he was with you all night, how'd he get shot?"). Very nice twist... :D

Another good episode last night in that the show revealed a twist to how solved events carry over to the next "day". So now you have to know that Hopper is thinking about this and wants more than ever to figure out just who is setting him up for Garza's death.
Also, I find it humorous how Hopper has dealt with the pair in the black car. Crazy how he just walked out of the house and opened fire on them as they sat in the car.
I'm very much into this show! :D But seriously, if you miss an episode, you'll be lost. My wife was watching it with me last night, and she hadn't seen the previous episodes. So all too often I was trying to explain past situations to her. She ended up going into the other room to watch something else. Heh...
Speaking of lost, the 'LOST' clips they show during 'DAYBREAK' aren't even worth the time. Very lame, indeed.

So this thread is a little bit dead on the vine, but I just watched last Wednesday's episode, and wanted to clarify - is Chad's killer Hopper's sister?

Yes, Chad's killer is/was Hopper's sister.
Sorry I-Max...
Yeah, this is crap cancelling the show like this... :x

Apparently, ABC is an abbreviation of the phrase, 'About to Be Cancelled.'
I'm not watching anything ABC makes any more. They try all these dramatic shows, and won't even finish a season. I'm turning off my DVR of LOST, too. I'm not watching that any more, or anything else on ABC. I may go and block that channel from my television. I am sick and freaking tired of having those disloyal money-grubbing TV executives start a story and just drop it for some crappy sitcom, and I am going to laugh my testicles clean off when LOST gets cancelled after this season's cliffhanger.

I watched one of the new episodes last night, and it felt good to be able to continue the story. However, I was surprised to see that ABC didn't upload just one new episode for viewing... but four! I'm not sure if these last four complete the season, but it's good to know that ABC is holding up to their word... however late this may be.
And yes, this episode (titled, "What if He's Not Alone?") was really good! I didn't care too much for some of the comic relief, but I really can't wait to watch more. I would have watched the other episodes last night, but it was too late.
Check them out when you get a chance! All the episodes are back online for viewing in their entirity. So you can get caught up if you missed out when the show was originally aired on ABC.

The show keeps getting better. One episode left; can't friggin' wait.
It's somewhat annoying that they couldn't get the latest episode edited together correctly, though. I actually made it through an entire out-of-order section (surprise in the hotel room through gun to his uncle's head) before I figured out something had gone wrong.
Really, anyone who hasn't been watching this, get onto abc.com before they pull it and give it a shot. Episodes 1-12 are there for the watching and the final episode is coming up on Monday. This is surprisingly intelligent stuff as long as you're willing to fill in the blanks... like understanding that just because they don't waste camera time repetitively showing Hopper do all the things he has to do doesn't mean he doesn't do them.
Good stuff.

I really don't know why it got cancelled.
The combination of "Groundhog Day" possibilities against the background of a 13-episode story seemed to me to be a winner. I was very surprised when ABC pulled the plug less than halfway through what was a pretty short series to begin with.
I watched ep10 last week, and right up until the end thought that it was the conclusion of the series!

The finale is late. A whole day late. Imdb suggest it will be a whole week late.
This may be the first and last time I make deliberate use of an animated smiley:

A whole week? Do they give any indication why? Usually, I watch the new episode a couple days after it is released... but a whole week!?

That's a little ridiculous.

Final episode finally came out... and it ends just like I thought it would. For what it was, Day Break is just about the best serial drama television has produced. I don't think I've seen as satisfying a finale.

So this show gets completely resolved in the 13 episodes?
With the crappy summer TV line up, I'm planning to watch all these in the coming days/weeks.

Yes, Nether, it's start-to-finish in 13 episodes. I was just thinking about this awesome show the other day, and thinking how I can't wait for the DVD. It's really, really good.
