I don't really know what kind of music people around here like, I assume that hardcore and metal will make a pretty good showing. Anyways, how about posting a few of your favorite bands. Less than 10 would be suitable. \
In no specific order (except for the first one, which is by far my favorite)
Guided by Voices (which includes everything Uncle bob has done)
Pavement
Sterolab
Sonic Youth
The Fiery Furnaces
The Magnetic Fields
The Pillows
The White Stripes

The Fiery Furnaces
The Fall
Lightfight - woah!
I've been PMing Hex Sinister about The Fall and other musical favorites. I mentioned The Fiery Furnaces as well!
The Fall are my all-time favorite band (note the username),
followed by The Who
Nirvana (I was there early on - much like Heroscape. Two defining cultural moments in my life...so far)
and early Zeke.
I've got a ton of other favorite bands, but The Fall and The Who top them all.
I'd love to hear what your favorite Fall albums are.
Fiery Furnaces: I listed the lyrics to "Blueberry Boat" in the thread, Favorite Lyrics Thread (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=94972&highlight=fiery+furnaces#104531)
Anyway, great to see another Fall fan here. Btw, here is Hex Sinister's avatar. Look familiar?

As far as favorite Fall albums, I'd say "The Wonderful and frightening World of the Fall" and "The real new fall LP (Formerly known as Country on the Click) would definitely be up there. I don't have very many of their albums since I'm in college and therefore broke, I do have the 50000 fall fans can't be wrong compilation though. It's got some great stuff on it.
I know I've seen that picture somewhere put I can't quite put my finger on it.
Have you ever listened to GBV? If you like the Who I would say you definitely have an above average chance of going crazy over Uncle Pollard.
What are your favorite Fiery Furnaces, I'm torn between Rehearsing my choir and Blueberry boat, they're like neck and neck for me.

Lightfight, My Favorite Fall albums
1) Palace of Swords Reversed (compilation of early singles. Every single song is amazing, but 'Wings' and 'Neighborhood of Infinity' are exceptional gems.
2) Hip Priest and Kamerards (another compilation. From their years on Kamera records). Best version of 'Hip Priest'. Ever. You'll note when Jodi Foster goes after the killer in his home in Silence of the Lambs, Hip Priest is playing in the background.
3) This Nation's Saving Grace. All-time favorite Fall song is on this album: 'Paintwork', with 'What You Need' a very close second best on the album. (This album is from the same era as Wonderful and Frightening World. Another great album. You know the stuff! I love really love Elves and Copped It from Wonderful & Frightening World).
4) Perverted By Language - Eat Y'Self Fitter. Supposedly John Peel fainted when the played this song on his BBC show. It's a GREAT song.
The great albums list goes on and on: Light User Syndrome, Levitate, Middle Class Revolt,
My sister and her husband are HUGE GBV fans. I have enjoyed their music, but there's just so much of it!!!
Fiery Furnaces
I have the first album (name escapes me). I enjoy that.
Blueberry Boat is a freakin' masterpiece!!! Love the songs 'Blueberry Boat' and 'Chief Inspector Blancheflower'!
Oh, here's the album Hex Sinister takes his avatar from. The single:

As far as Favorite Fall songs go (easier for me since I only have like 4 albums) . . . repetition, hey luciani, no bulb, GHOST IN MY HOUSE (love it), rowce rumble, I LOVE eat y'self fitter (I actually have a funny story about my mom coming home finding me dancing around to it), and definitely Elastic Man.
GBV if you haven't listened to "Over the Neptune, Mesh Gear fox" you have got to listen to it as soon as possible, one of my favorite rock songs ever! Its the first track off of propellor.
"You must be willing just to ride along with me
You must be happy just to do the job for free
Yours for the taking if you follow simple rules
Such acts of subservience were never taught in schools
Spit me out from your cosmos
Draft me into your troops
Set me up for the knockdown
You can watch
And I'll be back when it's over
I'm much greater than you think
I'm swimmer in the drink
I'm much greedier than you think
I'm slammer in the drink
And oh, mesh gear fox
Put out another bag of tricks from scientific box
Time's wasting and you're not gonna live forever
And if you do
I'll come back and marry you
No use changin' now
You couldn't anyhow and ever (forever?)"
P.s. thanks for the double title but I'm not really much of a scaper, I started playing about a year ago. I have 2 mastersets and 2 expansions but the friend I was playing with fricking moved away so I haven't played 'scape in like 6 months. Oh how I miss it.

Where are you? I'm still trying to find that out about Hex Sinister. It would be great if both of you were Bay Area California! We could hook up, play Heroscape while we listen to these bands! 8)
Make sure to put your location in your profile. You'll probably be amazed at the close proximity 'Scapers may be to you. You'll be gaming again in no time!
Oh, I'll definitely see if I can hunt that GBV song down. I have my sources. Let me try...

I'm about as far away from California as possible while still being in the continental US. GA my friend, oh how I hate it. I'll be in Japan in a year or so though, that'll be a little closer I guess.
Yeah, I'd definitely try to find that song if you can, it's amazing.
I sent a PM to "bonafide" a few days ago, I noticed that he lives like 15 minutes away from me but he hasn't logged on in a few weeks it seems.

Yo Lightfight! Too cool to see another Fall fan here. What are the odds... Anyway, those are awesome songs you mentioned, plus all of what HEH said too. I concur. Completely.
My faves but they are pretty much everything from the beginning to Nation's Saving Grace. Shift Work and Light User are quite excellent as well. GROTESQUE=fabulous. Phase 1 and 2 of the Fall's career are the greatest but don't disregard the latter works as there is quality in there also.
Nothing beats hearing Bombast for the first time. Fricken Prole Art Threat, wow. Pay Y'r Rates, saw that live. Great! Ok I will shut up about The Fall lol.
Damn, I just remembered I don't have Elastic Man or City Hobgoblins. Grr!
Least favorite- Code: Selfish
Guided by Voices: I need to hear some GBV. Don't they have like two million tapes out or something? What is a good starter to listen to?
Random sampling:
Elliott Smith
4ad stuff (His name is alive, Red House Painters, Cocteau)
My Bloody Valentine
Wedding Present

Quasi (early)
Strokes (don't hate me fer lovin the Strokes)

Filbey, I'm not really into Fugazi but I saw them live with Beat Happening and I gotta say WOW what a great performance from Fugazi. Also, the crowd was rowdy and the singer (forget his name) was berating them for spitting on Calvin and saying how un-cool and un-punk it was. Was pretty funny. Then at one point this obnoxious guy got on stage and the singer got him in a choke hold and was holding him like that and just kept singing the whole time. That was awesome lol.

Yeah, the odds arent good at that. I don't know a single person IRL that likes the Fall. I don't know much about their albums since I only have like three, the 50000 Fall thing is a lifesaver for me.
I would definitely start with propellor and Beethousand for Guided by voices. They have a reputation for having lots of stuff to buy but it's not as bad as it seems. Basically, their are like 10 or so albums of the main band that you need to have. Anything past that is gravy, however once you get on the bob pollard train you will WANT them. If you have a decent interent connection maybe I could send you some of my GBV stuff if you're interested. I'd definitely trade it for some My Bloody valentine, all I have is Loveless I really want to hear Isn't Anything.
As far as the strokes I won't hold it against you, I think everyone is allowed a guilty pleasure band. People will often say that the White Stripes suck but I think they're great, whatever it doesn't really bother me.

Yeah, Fall fans are pretty rare. Fortunately all my friends dig them, they spread virally as long as you're really sick with it. One of my friends got a new gf and the first thing he writes to me "dude, she likes The Fall". Pretty funny.
I would be interested in trading. Isn't Anything is really good but keep in mind it's not p*ychedelicly saturated like Loveless. The Swirlies are also pretty good if you like MBV, they're a little more upbeat but mimic the style somewhat. (The server wouldn't let me type the P word above for some reason).
The Strokes are just excellent, I'm not sure why they get a sour rep so much. I have a penchant for pop in my rock and the melodies and just everything about the Strokes seem brilliant to me. There is even one song on the new one that is (slightly) reminiscent of Television. Not a lot of that going on. And "Hard to Explain" my god, what a great sound on that. And "Someday" if that isn't one of the best pop songs ever I'll eat my sock. I must convert you to the Strokes somehow
It's similar with the Stripes. Is it the crossover thing? I was very surprised to see them get famous like that. But I think they rawk so I'm glad they struck a chord with the populace. Because lets face it, people deserve to hear something decent like that instead of the raw sewage that congests the airwav*EDIT RANT  *

I love reading these lists - I've a pretty voracious musical appetite and seeing bands/musicians I like always reminds me to put them on again...thanks, lightfight, for starting up another one of these :)
a sort of "chronologically historical" (and somewhat accurate) top ten for me:
Dead Kennedys
Minor Threat
Big Black
The Birthday Party(and anything slightly related to them )
Suicide
Luna
Flaming Lips
Smog
Will Oldham (Palace Brothers, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, etc.)

In my early 20's, that would have been the show of my dreams (luckily, being in a college town, many of my "dreams" were realized  , though not that particular combo).
Beat Happening didn't make my above list, but if I made it out again I'd bet heavily in favor of that very occurrence...

Wow. That is freaky. Those exact two songs are getting tons of play in my truck right now too. That is so awesome. You might like a CD by another band I listen to. The band is called Uisce Beatha (Pronounced Ish-Ka Ba-Ha). I believe it is gaelic for "Water of Life" or Whiskey :) The name of the CD is Mystic of the Baja. A few songs with slightly off-key folk vocals, which end up having a haunting bard-like quality to them, add to that the Uillean pipes for even more feel and emotion.

I love Christian Rock groups such as:
Casting Crowns
Third Day
Jars of Clay
Newsboys
Mark Shultz
David Phelps
etc...
But I also still love a couple of my old-school groups such as:
Megadeth
Queensryche
I get some wierd looks when I'm in my car singing Praise and Worship songs one minute, and then belting out "Rust in Peace" or Queensryche's "Screaming in Digital" the next. :)

ALICE COOPER by far is my all time favorite.
Living Sacrifice, Circle of Dust, Klank, and Tourniquet are my favorite Christian artists.
I also like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Cinderella, and Skid Row.

I love Country music, too, and for the same reason. Much to the dismay of those in listening radius, I suppose.
If I might be so bold as to suggest:
Freakwater
Handsome Family
Much more, but I'll stop there.
