So with the up-coming release of the PS3 I thought it appropriate to ask the community if the PS3 will be the stud or a dud. Could this possibly kill Sony as the Dreamcast did Sega? I think the BIG pricetag will have a HUGE effect on the system. My estimate is that many of the systems sold early on will be bought merely for the purpose of trying ot make a pretty penny on Ebay. My money's on a dud with this one. Sorry Sony, but it looks like I'll leave the PS3 right where I left the dreamcast... On the shelf!

Do you mean PS3 is dead before it has been released?

No, I'm merely asking if will it be dead when it is released. The play on word was intentional.

XBOX 1st ane foremost for me.
Wii is a steady 2nd.
The PS3 doesn't even place (unless I can get one for free)
I will say that I see the PS3 going the way of the Dreamcast in the next few years. I could be wrong but for it's limitations in this age I really don't see it staying afloat.

They are playing this off to have everything that both consoles have. The only reason I want one is to be able to play Metal Gear.....that's it, sad huh?
I do see Sony leaving the console market with this thing. Maybe not the way of the Dreamcast so much as the way of the Saturn. Sega came out with the Saturn and in no time came around to do the Dreamcast, as a way to somehow fix their probs with the Saturn. If Sony makes no $$ off of this thing I hope their smart and tuck tail back to Nintendo.
They will sell some of course, like so many others have said, to the HARDCORE PS fans, but I'm not getting one unless it's only gonna cost me $200-$300. Yeah I could afford to shell out the $$ for this thing, but why? Is it the control configs that they stole from Nintendo That would make me? Is it the Media Center additions and multiplayer link capab. that they stole from 360 that could convince me to buy this thing? No & no, I only see a few good things coming from this system and those are only games.
I think I'll stick with my 360 and a Wii (can't miss out on Smash Bros. or Zelda)

I am going to get a ps3 with the tax return next year. That is my "big" purchase that my wife lets me do every few years. This time it has a 10 year lifecycle and can run linux, and is backwards compatable so the wife is ok with the higher then usual price tag.
I would get one now, but I don't have the cash. I have never had any problems with Sony that they did not take care of for me at their expense. They have shown me that they care about my purchase so I have stuck with them.
I love the exclusives that they put out. God of War, ICO, Shadow of the Colossos, etc. I like my existing library of games from ps1 and ps2.
I just have no reason to want an xbox for a few exclusive games. I think some of them are cool, Halo and Gears of War, the FASA stuff, etc. I just would rather stick with Sony for my video gaming.
I use to like Nintendo, but then they stopped making games that interested me. N64 is the last thing I bought from them. I certainly am not interested in the WII, because I play game to relax. I don't want to be jumping around the room, or swinging my arms to play a game. Is it neat to do a couple times? Sure, but not every time.. no way.

Microsoft has got some nice stuff man, I won't lie. Even though I am partial to the Sony i am not going to blast the Xbox. The Sony just is a better fit for me, my collection, and my family's entertainment. I can see where the M$ system could be more appealing to some of the more flashy look at my high score type players. But for my money I am getting the Sony. It has the features that I am looking for in a next generation console.

I hear that! I am not to happy about the price, but as long as they can deliver the same quality that I have come to expect with a 10 year life cycle. I am ok with it. The fact that I can put linux on it and use it as a pc on my tv is also appealing to me. Then I can get rid of the desktop and just use the lap top and the ps3 for my "net surfing".
The other thing, and I know that m$ justifies it. Is when I want to play games on teh Sony online, I don't have to pay a monthly fee. Granted the service is not always top notch (freaking socom servers), but I don't play online regularly enough to warrant another monthly bill.
My opinion of the console wars is pretty much this.
I think that the Wii is going to do well with the kids, and a few of the adults that just like the "nintendo games". I don't think it will appeal to the masses however, the folks that like the online gaming and shooting games, etc.
I think the ps3 is going to appeal at first just to the die-hards that want the new tech, and must play all the new games. I think it also appeals to the folks like me that just want to stick with a brand that has earned their trust, or plays games "casually" online etc.
I think the xbox is going to appeal to the die hards that like to play online more then any other type of gameing. They are the more competitive gamers. I think that it appeals to the small few that got into the xbox on their first launch and like the backwards compatable as well.
Who will win? I think that they will all do just fine in their own right. I think Sony is going to have some surprises down the road to make the ps3 more affordable, and also more competitive when the xbox 3 comes out in my guess 4 years. I don't see any of the systems "tanking" out.
Get what is right for your money, because they are all expensive as far as I am concerned. Which is why I am going for the ps3. I am getting a little more then a game console with my purchase, I don't have to subscibe to anything for online, and my existing libray is all good in the hood.
whatever floats ur boat. you know i might not be so against it if it were a bit less pricey

RSX speeds
Cell memory access appears to be broken, RSX has half the triangle setup rate of the ATI chip in XBox360.
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32171
Also, are the movies that are out on Blueray really worth it all.
They do seem to have a few good titles coming out for PS3, but look at them.
Resistance: Fall of Man (Halo and Gears of War mixed in with a little Metal Gear)
Mrvel: Ult Alliance (its already on other systems)
NBA (see above line)
Call of Duty 3 (see above line)
Genji: days of the Blade (a NICE game)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire (Great game, but a limited audience)
Ridge Racer (wht am I getting out of this that I wouldn't get from Carbon, Burnout or PGR)
Full Auto 2: Battlelines (what ever happened to a good old fashioned remake of Twisted Metal's 1&2)
Tony Hawks Project 8 ( I want to put in a Smiley rolling it's eyes, but I'll be nice)
Lair (Not a clue, but looks an awful lot like Panzer Dragoon)
Warhawk (see the line above)
It seems to me that they aren't anywhere near ready to launch this thing but they've been working on it since the dawn of XBOX,

I agree they do have some mistakes, but I am still not discouraged. Here is a neat little article that breaks down the specs of each of the systems. I think it is pretty informative and you will be surprised perhaps by what you see.
http://www.gamepro.com/gamepro/international/games/features/83408.shtml
It is not the be all, end all of articles. It is a nice read though.
The x-box is a good buy for some, but for me the ps3 is definately the one I am going to get. It has the things I am looking for. Lair looks awesome by the way, so does Heavenly Sword. I have been wanting to play the new Warhawk and Resistance is just awesome. One review said it was like a souped up timesplitters. Which I like a lot! :)
The linux support (yellow dog linux(free) if you want to look it up. Is a pretty nice little deal too. The upgradable Hardrive, multiple memory options, lots of usb ports for different perephials. media format options, connectivity to a pc, ipod, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Here is another comparison that is a good read done by CNET.
PS3 8.8
http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_PlayStation_3_60GB/4505-6464_7-31355103.html?tag=cnetfd.mt
XBox 360 8.4

Wii 8.0
http://reviews.cnet.com/Nintendo_Wii/4505-6464_7-31355104.html?tag=links;review
The PS3 scored a bit higher.. but still it is real close. :)
I think if you need to get a system now, and want good games now. Then the 360 is where to go. If you are looking to get a system for the long run, then you will want the ps3. That is pretty much what it boils down to.

Not only is what you are seeing first gen, some of those games that are launching with it are ports from the 360 version. Next year this time you are going to be seeing the difference between the two. The ps3 is freakin sweet. :)

Great pionts, and an even better article, and it does have the "All Points" veiw which is nice.
I can see where you would want the PS3 and I don't blame you, but for what I want and the games I want I'm leaning towards 360 overall. Yeah most of it may come from a biast (sp) opinion. (just so you know I stood in line for hours waiting for both my PS and PS2)
I come from a VG community, round here, the only things to do are, play games and my entire community is putting on some serious HATE against the PS3.
My fear for this system really stems from that price tag. The Blueray is cool but what do I need a Blueray player for? I never even use my HD for the 360 I have now (unless I go to my buddy's house, 120 inches of projected screen would make anyone want to play in HD)
Like the article said the "Choices" that XBOX gives me over PS3 is where I and most of the guys I know are sold.

I do believe the Xbox will reign supreme. Why? it's the new thing. Poeple like the new thing and in that regard, the Playstation brand is passé. All the kewl kids know that Xbox is fashionable. The same way PS was fashinable instead of Nintendo.

Yeah, pretty much what it amounts to is personal preference. Game makers are going to support both the xbox and ps3 equally (if they can get it to work on a wii they will that too). So there will probably always be both camps. If I didn't have the library I have for sony I might consider the box a little more, but good customer service on Sony's part and a boatload of games I already own and still want to own keep me locked in.
I don't see any of them "failing". I think they will all do well. It's just a matter of what "you want" for your money. If you are not interested in blue ray, and not intersted in the multimedia functions (that pc's already do) and you are not interested in having linux on your gameing system. Then yeah, xbox is the way to go. otherwise, I am seeing this as a low cost wireless computer, and game machine for my kids and myself. It is a nice little system all packed in to one.
It is alll about what you want.

If you remember, the PS is actually the brainchild of Nintendo and though Nintendo is hitting a different market they are still contenders in the big leagues.
If you really want to bring up side-step consoles, you would have to use the Jaguar as a referance instead of Nintendo, ;)

The wii is more of a fad. I personally don't see it doing much for the long haul. Short haul yes, long haul no.
After a hard days work I am not about to come home and start waving my dam hands all over the place to play a game. Not going to happen, that would be excercise and I certainly don't want to be a part of that.
--- I think the clear choice is the ps3 or 360. The Wii is a novelty and Nintendo knows it. So get one of the other 2 if you are looking for longevity.
The 360 and the ps3 both have their ups and downs and it all comes down to what you want to spend your money on. I have posted a few VERY GOOD articles that compare the systems and it would help you decide on which one is best for you.
Me, I want the PS3, if I could afford both i would get both. I can only have one though, and that is the one I choose.
Nintendo Wii will be in the bargain bin in 3 years or less.

I couldn't disagree more with these statements. The Omega GameSphere will not be a fad, Nintendo is paving the road to the future. While the other systems are busy copying each other, Nintendo is busy coming up with new innovations in gameplay, as they have done the entire time.
And as for excercise, that may not be such a bad thing, I know a bunch of fat lazy gamers out there (I'm not skinny by any means), but if you are really lazy and want to remain so, then you can plug in a GameCube controller in the port in the back of the GameSphere, and sit on the couch with the wireless controller and be lazy like always. At least on this system you have an option: normal controller, or innovative gyroscopic controller with a freaking SPEAKER in it!
The Omega GameSphere is backwards compatible as well with the GameCube, which hasn't been really mentioned on this thread yet, so I don't think PS3 gets any bragging rights on that feature.
I own every Nintendo system they've put out except the Gameboy Advance and DS, and I finally broke down and bought a PS2, only because I wanted to play games like God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, etc. I like the PS2, but I definately don't like it any better than any other system I've ever played. And I've always hated that they used SHAPES on their controller, rather than the standard A, B, etc. or different sized buttons with different colors. It's like learning a new language on some games, I find that I constantly have to look at the buttons and re-learn them if I don't play it for a while.
This next comment is kinda stupid, but what the H E L L is up with the PS3 commercial with the demonic baby and the poltergeist PS3?! More than anything else, that commercial turned me off on the PS3. I'll bet that that really bad advertising will hurt their sales, because I don't know many moms and dads that would buy their children a really expensive game system with commercials like that.

I guess you've never heard about System Link or the Media Center extentions for the XBOX, or the Multimedia uses for the PS2.
Yes I will say that Nintendo is very inovative but that doesn't automatically exclude XBOX or PS3.
You say Nintendo is the one breaking new ground, but what system was the first to allow you play DVDs or Listen to your CD's or burnt Music, Play Station.
What sytem was the first to give you an easy connection to your coputer as well as a multimedia center in the system itself, XBOX.
YES, Nintendo makes a great console, but while Nintendo keeps making consoles, XBOX and PS3 are integrating the entire entertainement center into one device (ie, Home videos, DVD's, CD's, pics, MP3's and person to person vs modes that can reach across the globe).
Show me where the other two are copying from one-another, and I'll show you where Nintendo is still living with it's "MOM".

*shrug* to each their own.
I do agree with you on the commercials, they are pretty stupid. I would rather have seen games then some off the wall commercial like that.
The Wii for mii is not a revolution. Nor is the ps3 motion control. I don't find that revolutionary by any means. I see it as a gimic. Just like the golf games and baseball games that have been out for years that use a simular type of play. A golf stick and a t- plugged into your TV. Fun for everyone! *blech*
I realize it has backwards compatabilty that would be because it is in essence the same machine with a slight upgrade. I just don't see the Wii lasting longer then 3 years, I really don't. The n64 was sweet, but towards the end the 3d platforming got old... well it least theirs did. You play banjo kazooie, gex, mario 64, donkey kong, etc. It felt like the same game.. over and over again. I don't see how their controller can save them with the same types of game over and over again.
I just don't think the wii is anywhere near contending for the race. I think they will probably sell like hot cakes this year for christmas and all, but next year and the year after. I just somehow doubt it.
They will want or wish they had the xbox or ps3 come next year.

OK, the Wii's games arn't all Motion Sensing when you run around. Move your wrist and you could beat Zelda. They just show people jumping up and down because it looks... more fun than a lazy guy on the couch.
Not all of them are Motion Sensing either. The Classic Controller/Gamecube Controller is also usable with many games, and the Wiimote is an option. As for DVD player being innovative, they don't relate to games. If I buy a 360, I'm spending $200 on a game center and $200 on a DVD player. I have a DVD player. I don't need another one. Same thing with PS3, $200 for the actual game playing and the rest is all "Media Stations" and "Blu-Ray". Why would I want Blu-Ray? HDDVD is better quality anyways.
All in all, Wii is cheap and an actual Console. PS3 is an expensive Media Station. 360 is a balance between them, but the games are underwhelming. Which is why I'm debating it.
And yes, the baby is really creepy. It's like they're asking people to not buy it.

All good points, but if you want to just break it down to games and libraries. I would go with the playstation or the xbox yet again. I can think of a number of exclusive games on the box and the ps that are must haves. Nintendo though? hmmm... Mario kart? fun, but it's no GTA, Mario this, mario that... nope I'll pass. I like Manhunt, God of War, Ico, final fantasy, etc... Zelda is the only title I really miss to be truthful.
I think it is great that Nintendo tried to do different things, and they stick to their guns. It's just not for me anymore. I think gamers want a little more then cute loveable charcters.

I know what you mean, after all, what has Sony given?
Give you the best format (Blu-Ray)? Greater backwards compatibility than xbox? Great exclusive games? Free online? Better HD connections? 60GB drive? Exclusive Final Fantasy for like ever? Linux? Great controller? A cheap Blu-Ray player? Integrated HD player? 1080P? A powerful processor? 10 year cycles on their systems? Dual shock? Dual sticks?
I am sure Bad Calvin knows more than these. It all comes down to killer apps like Halo. I said it before, Xbox is fashionable, the new system. Next generation the darling will be "X" system and wailing on the xbox will be trendy. We consumers are fickle like that, we want to be "in."

I won't be buying anymore consoles. My PC is my gaming rig. However, if I was to buy one, it would be the PS3. I owned a PS1 and PS2. They had, imho, the best and biggest game library of their chosen eras. Game-Cube was cute and had some nice games, but I think it was aimed at a young crowd. X-Box was good, but a-lot of the games from the X-Box are also available on the PC, and there is no contest there. If I wanted to play a console, it was PS. I also think the PS had, handsdown, the best controllers.

I'm getting a Wii eventually, and will more than likely pick up a 360 when Halo 3 comes out. I heard analysts on CNBC mention a price drop yesterday for later in 2007. It was a rumor but oftentimes those guys are pretty on top of things. They also predicted that Wii and 360 would be very successful but the general feeling was that the PS3 would be forced to either drop it's price and sell at a huge loss (hoping to make up for it in games and accessorries) or be doomed to fail. 360 just has such an insane lead on them and the PS3 is not leaps and bounds beyond them tech-wise in the eyes of the average consumer. Wii will find it's niche market and do well, but 360 will win this generation I think...I predict PS3 will be a cool system but it's insanely high laughable price and untested tech will destroy it unless Sony makes some real changes.

I think I'll stick with my 360 and a Wii (can't miss out on Smash Bros. or Zelda)
I could see the PS3 going the Sega Saturn route.....being epically retooled in a shorter-than-expected time frame. You'll have some pissed off fans but I think it would be for the best.
Sure, but not every time.. no way.
I'd hold off a little while if you can. Price drops may occur, and who knows what sort of launch problems the hardware might have (untested tech and all that).
Plus PS3 is losing exclusives left and right.

Now, I'm a Final Fantasy/Shadow of the Colossus/Kingdom Hearts fan. I would have liked a PS2, but my friend has one so I didn't need to. However, the PS3 is $600. Way too much money. Blu-Ray is bound to fail. The only reason I would ever want to buy a PS3 is for Final Fantasy. Metal Gear Solid 4 doesn't interest me, nor do any of the other exclusives. If SCIV was exclusive, I'd buy it. But it's not. Sony is losing exclusices left and right, and every thing a PS3 can do a Wii/360 can do better.

It has the features that I am looking for in a next generation console.
sony blows............microsoft all the wayI think some of their policies totally stink, like their plans to have each game be coded so that once you load it into your PS3 it is no longer usable by any other PS3.. That will make renting them a thing of the past.
I can't imagine Sony would be that dumb. The press release has to have been wrong.
That would be foolish to an even greater degree than the price tag for the PS3. It would absolutely kill the whole rental industry for that console, and would destroy anyone's ability to borrow or trade games or sell used ones....sure the industry doesn't like that, they want you to buy new ones, but they can't be total diiks about it.

that your opinion but im stickin with the Wii. nintendo has been around longer then all the rest of these. So stick that in your juice box and drink it.
just because its been around longest doesnt make it the best. it may have some good titles coming out for it but its still no where near as good as the 360
Apples and Oranges. Wii is not something one can really compare straight up to the PS3 or 360. It's more of an interesting sidebar.
The wii is more of a fad.
After a hard days work I am not about to come home and start waving my dam hands all over the place to play a game. Not going to happen, that would be excercise and I certainly don't want to be a part of that.
The Wii is a novelty and Nintendo knows it.

Well put....I've actually played the Wii now (thanks, local EB!) and can say that the motions it requires are small indeed. No bigger than the slight motions many of us make with the controller anyway in moments of tight action or excitement (you know who you are, driving game and shooter fans!). In fact I found big motions to be unworkable for the games I played. I imagine some games may be customizeable regarding the sensitivity, but the driving game I played was very reasonable, and felt quite natural. It certainly didn't feel like exercise, nor did it feel like I was going to get some sort of bizarre repetitive stress injury, nor did it feel like I'd tire of it. I'd have to play a platformer or shooter to give a final verdict, but so far I am quite impressed with the driving and sports games. It doesn't feel as gimmicky as it looks, and I think Nintendo is actually doing themselves a disservice by playing it up as this running around the room oddity.

DVD, CD, etc are pretty much irrelevant to GAMES. Games should be the focus of any console....all this "home entertainment center" bull shet is just silly I think. I have a DVD player. Two of them actually. They work just fine. I'm quite happy with them. In fact they are more fully functional and better than the Xbox, the 360 or the PS2 for playing movies. Why can't a game machine just be a game machine? It should do that and do it well, I think.

I got to play the Wii and the good news is you don't really need an HD TV. In fact, the setup I played in had an HD TV and it seems to be detracting from the visuals rather than helping them. So a normal TV will work good for it I think which lowers the price even more. Overall the wiimote was sensitive and had good weight. Nevertheless, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed, and that was disspapointing. I really expected a better experience. In truth, it felt gimicky. I'm still getting one, but I was underwhelmed. I wish they had had Red Steel or Zelda playing instead, but Excite Truck just wasn't all that. At times I even felt the need to have a real controller as there where times I felt I kept losing control of the vehicle. The visuals were very comparable to GC by the way. Indeed, the motions requiered are not exagerated, but rather subtle. In fact, if you steer too much you lose control.

That ridiculous eBay price aside, those who waited a couple days in line to buy a PS3 just to sell the system on eBay... I think they're pretty smart. There are rich idiots out there who so desperately want to spoil their kid, or even themselves, with the latest and the greatest right when it comes out that they are willing to drop an obscene amount of cash on eBay to get it.
However, a month from now, those who purchase a system just to sell it on eBay... morons.
Yeah, there is a pretty fine line for me on this issue. But honestly, if you can make $10,000+ just for being able to sit in a chair for two days, that's pretty friggin' good.

So I played the PS3 yesterday. I have to say that I was honestly impressed. The controller's lack of rumble did hurt though. The new triggers are good and well placed. I have to say the graphics look well beyond anything I've seen on console. It looked like a high end PC game. The shadows, effects and fluidity were stunning. If only it wasn't 600 bucks...

Can you imagine the buyer's remorse on this one? Anytime I spend more that 10 bucks I keep second guessing if I should have spent the money. Often, when I buy something expensive it takes me days to enjoy it because of the remorse. Imagine spending 100 mil only to come home and realize you've just spent 100 mill on a gaming system...wow. PS3 cannot possibly give anyone 100 million worth of satisfaction.

I have been following the launch pretty closely even though I am not taking part in it. I have to wait until next year.
There are a lot of folks in line just wanting to sell it. I am bummed that some of the folks that really want one didn't get one, but I guess they should have got in line a little earlier. :(
There was a mugging, a shooting, an in store riot. One guy knocked himself out while running by hitting a pole in his way. (lol how the hell do you not see a pole?). There were almost some fights in NY and in some of the alleys in San Francisco. Some of the walmarts might not get any shipments for a while for forcing customers to buy bundles, etc, etc.
I am impressed by the human nature of taking advantage of others stupidity, and desires. The humans on this planet are just dam funny. What is more funny those with the big smiles selling the systems for a few thousand dollars, or those smiling while they spend the amount of cash that would take me a year, or at least months to save as if it were no big deal. It makes me think that only the poor are patient.
Anyway, before i start going way off topic.
The ps3 is worth the $600 they were asking for it. Hell it is probably worth $800 for it. But $1,000+
nope, get out of here!
I just hope that they can get enough produced and get the bugs out by the time it is my turn to get one. :)

Why can't a Cell phone, just be a phone?
That is exactly what I want my phone to be, a phone...
I still think that the PS3, if you have a big screen HD set is the way to go. If you want HD movies, BluRay is the way to go and right now the PS3 is the discount Bluray player! The 20gig PS3 is $500. That's half price of the current BluRay players and the same price as an HDDVD player. And you get a PS3.
I have a big HD TV, so I will wait and probably get a PS3 unless the Bluray player prices drop radically.
I have only purchased 1 microsoft product in the last 15 years and don't plan on buying any more.

I have owned just about every console you can think of (and if I didn't my brother in law probably owned it). This past year has been the only time I have not purchased systems around the time of the release date.
Maybe its just me, but the game releases just don't seem that interesting. The 360 seems to have some cool titles now like Dead Rising and Gears of War, but I did not see anything other than Resistance and Lair on the PS3 that I would be excited to try out.
Add the hassle and hazards of getting these systems and I'd just rather wait. I also intend to pick up the PS3 as my first foray into HD DVD's, but it will have to wait until next year when things calm down.
I just picked up a nice upconverting DVD player and am enjoying checking out my old DVD's in 1080i on a new HDTV, so that will keep me happy in the interim. I hope the later revisions of the PS3 will have the upconversion option. Not having that ability in a machine this high tech seems silly.

Not really. In terms of specs they are different, with the PS3 being the most powerful.
Although, in a round-a-bout way you bring up a good point. It is not so much about the hardware as it is about the games and finding a machine that has the most titles that you enjoy playing.
I still have my X-box somewhere in storage and can't wait to find it so I can play The Warriors in 720p!

Also the ps3 has blue-ray (which is another new hd video, I see Sony winning that little war to since they pretty much own the movie/ music industry). The ps3 also has built in to add linux amongst other things to make the $600 worth it. I can tell you though. you would probably just be better off getting the 20 gb version for $500 and then updating the harddrive down the road. Save a little cash. :)
For the 360 to play the hd dvd's you have to spend an extra $200 for the drive which would put it's price at the same as the ps3. :) (except of course the ps3 has better tech, making it a little more worth it).
Granted it comes down to the games, but historicly Sony has not disappointed. The list of triple A exclusives is much higher on Sony then it is for the box.

The PS3 60Gb has wireless connectivity built in as well, which is nice. You have to buy an adapter for the 360, if you want that. My brother-in-law's bill for that 360 last year, once he started buying peripherals, was more than the high end PS3.

heh, what can I say. Sony treats you right. They don't charge for online gaming, if you have a problem they take care of it (customer service). They always got kick ass exclusives. Longevity of the system is outstanding as well.
Let me tell you something about Sony just real quick. I got a demo from them in the mail last year of Viewtuful joe. I played it thought it was *shrug* ok. Then said screw it, and went to go play Tiger Woods with my wife. When I put tiger Woods in my saves were gone!! WTF !! So, I took the game out and looked at my memory card. Everything was erased!!! I was like "what did I do?". then I thought, maybe that demo mucked it up.
The next day I call Sony and I ask them about it, the guy tells me that he had a couple complaints of this happening and he apologized on behalf of Sony. I told him, Sorry doesn't really make it better because I had a LOT of freaking saves on there from my games. ( I was really ticked about the Tiger woods saves, because it is the only game my wife will play with me and she had her character completely built up). Anyway, he said that sony would like me to pick a free game from their line up to show their appreciation for my business.
I thought are you kidding me? I just wanted to vent a little. Needless to say they sent me a brand new copy of Sly The Thievious Raccoon for free. All because a free demo messed up my memory card.
They didn't have to do that, but I tell you what. They bought my loyality.
They have helped me out with problems in the past as well. Anytime i have called them, most of the time I get a person who has a ps2 at home and likes to talk games with you. So it's all good.
I don't know what kind of experiences others have had with Nintendo, or MS, but Sony is definately on the ball.
That is how they get that brand loyality though. It has nothing to do with fanboyism, it has to do with they take care of you.

Well, the most interesting part was the projected worldwide cumulative unit sales they foresee between the years 2005 - 2012:
• PS3 = 121.8 million
• XBOX 360 = 59.7 million
• Nintendo Wii = 23.3 million
Crazy how they see Sony doubling Microsofts sales. I don't doubt it... but wow.

I miss my Dreamcast.
It would be silly for Nintendo to stop making games. Games are where the profit lies, not hardware. I think it was mentioned that Sony is taking a $250 loss on those PS3 sales to get that massive customer base installed.
I was at Best Buy Wed night and they had the PS3 on display, but the display they had it hooked up to had burned out, so I did not get to try it out. I was glad to see that the controller is basically the same as the dual shock. I have become so accustomed to that controller over the years, using it seems like second nature.

But, hey, they don't intend to make "just games". It would suck the soul out of the company. Seeing Mario on PS4 would just crush them.
See, unlike MS and Sony, Nintendo cares about their characters. For them, it's about the money chiefly. But not just the money, because they care about the fans. Moreso than other companies.

Gears of War - XBox 360
IGN Review - 9.4 out of 10

Reader Review - 9.0 out of 10
Resistance: Fall of Man - PS3
IGN Review - 9.1 out of 10
Press Average - 9.1 out of 10
Reader Review - 6.9 out of 10
Of course the PS3 will have a higher projected sales, because the have the Asian market. When there was a shortage of 360's in the U.S., they were sitting on the shelves in Japan. Why? Because they are loyal, just like most of the people who post in thread. I have all the last gen and each has their benefits.
Sure PS3 is more powerful, but if the game designers don't utilize this power, it is no better than the 360 or the Wii. Sony has always been criticized for framerate problems and it appears that from some of the reviews that I've read, the problem continues with the PS3. Marvel Ultimate Alliance received a review of 7.9 out of ten compared to 8.2 for the 360 and 8.2 for the PC, as the result of the framerate problems. I hear about the online experience and that its free, but I've never heard anyone rave about the PS2 online experience like they do about the XBox Live experience.
Sony has always had the better library, however. I like its longevity. I like that they released a mega-hit, Final Fantasy XII on the verge of the PS3 release. XBox is pretty much dead on new exclusive releases and the Gamecube has the new Zelda game coming out.
Nintendo is the affordable, family friendly option. I love the fact that their games are still $49.99 when the other two have bumped their price tags up ten bucks. I love it that you can download any game pre-Gamecube that Nintendo has ever released.
I guess I personally don't care about all the other bells and whistles that each of the systems offer. I have so many dvd players coming out my rear that the new Blu-ray or HD technology is more of a turn-off to me. I'm not ready to upgrade and I'm not ready to buy blu-ray discs. A couple of years from now, maybe, but not now.

Well you don't need an HDTV for 360 or PS3 either. They can display in greater resolution on one, but they work just fine on a regular TV too, as long as it has AV inputs.
From what Ive heard of 360, regular TVs make reading the text a hellish task.
i have played a 360 on a regular tv and let me tell u it does not make a difference really on what type of screen ur tv has
I've played a 360 on a regular TV and while there IS a noticeable difference it is still very playable, just obviously not in the super high resolution you see at the store kiosks....I encountered no text reading problems. Maybe that is more of an issue with smaller screen non-HDs?

Okay, funny story:
I had 2 buddies here in WCH who decided to sit in line begining at six in the morning Yesterday to wait for theWii at Midnight. Round about 11 I decided to go visit them. At the time there were only about 11-12 people in line.
Well as I was talking to them and playing some Mario on DS when the manager told me that I had to either get in line, or get out of the isle. Seeing as how I was bored and wanted to hang out with the guys I decided to get in line.
Midnight rolls around and their are at least 10 more people behind me, so I figured I'd keep my spot in line. I'm not sure how it happened but I ended up being #20 in the line (people letting others cut I think) and sure enough, I got the last one.
Yep bought a Wii and only waited in line for an hour, I haven't let the guys live it down yet. They waited for 18, I waited for 1, :D
I haven't opened it yet and may not, but that probably won't last long once Twilight Princes comes out, :D

If I were you, I'd try to flip it and make a profit. You can always buy one again later when things calm down.

To tell you the truth, I really do not like playing sega characters on a gamecube. But, Mario is like nintendos mascot. Mascots do not change teams. It does not look right.
To me it's just hardware....it's like saying that I don't like watching non-Sony movies on a Sony TV. Systems are largely irrelevant.....it's the games that matter. If every game came out for every system things would be very different.

I agree with that. I think it would be sweet to play mario and the gang on a ps3 or xbox.
I went to my buddies house last night, he decided to pick up a 360. He is trying to convince me to get one, but I can only afford one and I have decided to wait for the ps3. Anyway, I got to play some gears of war with him and school his ass with it. It is a pretty cool game. We played a little of Saints row, I didn't get to much out of it though. He was showing off some of the other things that the 360 does and it was pretty impressive. I can't wait to get into the next generation of hardware so I can start enjoying some of the nice software that is coming for it.
Either way, I don't knock anyone for getting any system that has the games that they like to play on it.

Johnny, just get your butt over to the nearest EB, Gamestop, or other store with a demo kiosk. Then play until they kick you off. Wash, rinse, and repeat on a daily basis if you want to.

I checked. The Video Game store nearby is EB Games, which is, like... 10 miles away and doesn't have one. Even if it did, I'm not going to ride a bus ten miles to play the Wii.
Buy it? Yes. Play it? No.

So then JCB... are you admitting that I was right about this being one of the most BA systems to date? It really is ALOT of fun. I've been playing for 32 straight hours!!!!! Time for bed....

It's a fun system, but it's not the best sytem ever....not by a long shot. It's a bit gimmicky right now. I can't possibly make a call about it's legacy until they really start rolling out games that take advantage of it. So far all I've played is Wii sports, Excitetruck, and a little bit of Zelda. In all honesty, it was a lot of fun, but I'd rather play Zelda with a traditional controller, and thus I'l probably get it when it comes out for cube.

I think I'm on board with you on Zelda. The biggest drawbacks I heard to the game on the Wii was was that they used a lot of the initial Gamecube designs and just polished them up a bit. I can't imagine that the Cube version is going to differ that much from the Wii version. It may be a bit prettier, but it's probably going to be the same game. I actually picked up a Zelda skin for my Gamecube at Toys R Us the other night. They had it marked incorrectly for $5.

I am still looking for a store to take my $400+ for a Wii, extra controllers and Zelda game. Why can't I find one? I missed them in three different stores by mere minutes today. :(
As for Zelda....I'll be buying Twilight Princess for both the Cube and the Wii. Any excuse to play more Zelda is fine by me.

There's no reason on God's earth to get both versions. They are very similar, both play on the Wii, and from what I hear the Cube version is a better game. The Wii version is essentially a port with added on stuff to take advantage of the controller.

I already have my Wii, but I can't seem to find another Nunchuk thing. I have the second "wiimote" but it sucks that I can't play my games 2P because I can't find another nunchuk thing.
