First Off thanks to everyone who came out play a little Scape today. I had a great time and hope everyone else did two.
Now on to the particulars. A total of 13 player took part in the first Toronto Scapefest. Big props to VValker, his son Drake and Marc who drove in from Kingston to attend this event.
After 5 hard fought rounds the top four going on to the elimination round were Terranin, Jazz, Faarknockers and Ketch. In the semi final it was Q9 vs Q9 as Jazz faced off against Faarknockers, with Jazz coming home victorious. In the other semi it was Krug vs. Alister MacDirk as the undefeated Terranin took on Ketch. It was a titanic struggle that came down to 1 Arrow Grut vs Alister with one wound left. THe Grut fought hard but MacDirk prevailed.
Final Round Attack saw Jazz vs his arch arrival Ketch.
In the Jazz's corner was
Raelin
Izumi Samuria
Marro Warriors
Major Q9
Guity McCreetch
Fight out of Waterloo for Ketch
Alister MacDirk
MacDirk Warriors
Airborne Elite
Krav Maga Agents
This Photo shows the endgame, as the last Warro Warrior fell to the MacDirk onslaught.

And the winner is Ketch. Here's Ketch recieving the hardware from Mrs. Pro. Ketch also selected the Castle set from the prize table.

Second Place Jazz

Third Place Faarknocker as he defeated Terranin in the Bronze metal game.

And what happen to me well let just say I never want to see that Q9- Raelin-Krav Maga combo again. I went 3-2 with both losses coming to the same army played by 2 different people. Mr. Bishop and Faarknocker were both playing an Army consisting of Q9, Raelin, Kav Maga and a squad of Death Reavers. This a tough nut to crack. And one more thing I think my dice are blank on all six sides. But I'm not bitter, no not at all. I had a great time and met some really nice guys and made some new friends and that's all that matters. thank to the misses for pinch hitting for TheMightArrgh when he had to leave early.
More tomorrow...

Just wanted to say thanks again to Atmos and Mrs Pro for all the time and effort you invested into this day. Your efforts really made a difference, especially with the prizes. For those unaware, Atmos searched, petitioned for, donated, and organized the prizes for the day.
A special thanks also to Matt Drake and our friends from Kingston who also donated to the prize lot.

Great tournament, Atmospro and Mrs. Pro!
You both put on a superb tournament. The site was excellent and the people were great: you couldn't have asked for a friendlier group of competitive players. Those present were truly a credit to Heroscape in Canada. I want to thank everyone involved, in particular Jazz -the only player to whom I lost- for being such a fine sportsman before, during and especially after the game. I look forward to a rematch! I hope we can all soon meet to play again. Cheers![/img]

Again, I guess I will post in this thread too,
Thank you Atmospro, and to his wife. You both did so much work, and more than we know I am sure as well.
Next time around sounds like its going to be even bigger, which is awesome.
Maybe next time Jazz *cackles* muahaha
But honestly, it was a tough game.

What a great day! Thanks very much to Atmospro and his wife for staging such a great event! You did Canadian Heroscapers proud. It was a pleasure to meet everyone and I look forward to future tournaments. Next time I won't include Q9 in my army:)
By the way Atmospro, did anyone take the golf green passes? I left before the prize distribution but if they were not taken my father and brother said they would be interested in a family golf day with my wife and I and we could buy them from you.
A fantastic day all around!

Yes Paul took the golf passes sorry. But I do have a Booster set of Monks and Sentinels for you. Let me know where to send it or I can bring it to you.
You can use Q9 if you want I'm just joking around. I tried something I had not play be fore yesterday and it seems I found a weakness.
For the record I fielded
Agent Carr
Blastrons X2
Gladitrons X2
This was pretty effect except against the two Vydar units mentioned above Q9 and Krav Maga. In a game against a total Viper arm they owned, hell one squad of Gladiatrons surrounding Charos with one squad of Blastatrons firing away was very effective.
Edit: I think I wouild switch out one squad of Gladiatrons for Major X17 if I was to play this at the 400 point level again.

Looks like a lot of fun! Great job hosting Mr. and Mrs. Atmos! Congratulations, Ketch!!!
(Astmos when you typed VValker, I stared at that friggin' 'W' for a long time wondering why the font was different-looking! I thought my monitor was going screwy and strecthing the letters. I had to do a vertical, visual check to see if any of the other letters were stretched. It was only after VValker posted his reply that I understood!)
And what happen to me well let just say I never want to see that Q9- Raelin-Krav Maga combo again. I went 3-2 with both losses coming to the same army played by 2 different people.
I read another thread concerning Q9. Ach, what a combo with Raelin and the Kravs. Reavers are the salt in the wound.
Btw, did you guys end up using Dnutt99's The Post?

Yes several game were played on that map. I did not play on but Mrs. Pro did and like it, the Ancient Lookout as well. Maybe one of the other fella can comment a little further. We did move the ruin walls slightly as they were in conflict with the towers. This made the bridge a little unstable. We moved them out one space.

I never played the post, but I did watch two games.
The first occured the way I believe it would have. It was a blow up where Krav reached the centre of the bridge, killed his opponents units heading for the same spot. Then continued to kill the rest of the persons team while leaving his deployment zone.
The second game was different, but interesting. The two spots for glyphs was on the ground... the way I think it should be to promote a balanced/interesting game. Anyway, the fight happened completely over the water. Neither team had AE or Krav though...
I really wish I could have played it (seeing as I had both AE/Krav) but it just looked fun, and hey.. it had castle pieces!!

I played Dnutt99 on this board on Natl. HS Day. I had an orc army and he had EOV, X-17, Microcorp, and others. We were up and down on that bridge for most of the game. At one point I had Blade Gruts cannonballing off the bridge an onto the waters spaces for a faster descent.
Dnutt99 & I have photos and info on The Post games HERE (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=3280&start=75)

I just wanted to add my thanks and appreciation to Atmospro and his wife for all the hard work they did for us for the tourney., also to give congrats to an well played battle me and Pro had in the 5th and final round before the finals began... I was 1 wound away on Agent Carr from being in the finals... with 3 skulls rolled for my final attack on Agent Carr, Atmospro pulls off the roll of the tourney with 3 shields! Exactly what he needed and with the time having run out at that point he took the victory with having more of my point than I of his! :)
All in all it was a great tourney and it was awesome meeting new people who share a passion for a great game! Till next time.
Graham.

I participated in one game on the Post and it seemed to be a great map. Unfortunately for VVWalker I just marched Q9 under the bridge and slowly (actually rather quickly) killed off all of his little plastic men before they could get in to stop him. (VVWalker was using the Blastatrons, Gladiatrons, Nakita, Gorillanators and Marro I believe). I would love to try the map again with a different army where the bridge came into play more.
I would like to commend VVWalker's son on a good tournament as well. His Viper army did not fare well and he came up against some tough armies (he faced Q9 two or three times in five games) but he was a great sport about it and kept plugging away. He actually managed to take down my Q9 in our game with some good frenzy rolls and a barrage of attacks on the poor robot. I can only hope my son grows up to be the same kind of gamer as VValker's!
Again a great tournament!

VValker's son faced me, and almost wiped the floor with me on his first turn. His Elite Onyx Vipers frenzied all the way to my starting zone, and took out my krav, and had he frenzied one more time I would have lost all my turns probably for round 1, and the AE weren't in yet.. I would have lost the game in 1 or 2 rounds.
Fortunately no more frenzies came up... though I was petrified for the rest of the game because all his snakes were one frenzy away from my deployment zone.

Just like to pass on my thanks as well for an excellent tournament....at least for the part I could take part at. And congrats to all of the champs!
Regrettably I had to leave very early and only got one game in, but it was a really really fun game against Terranin! I would like to say that I do find it pretty sad that you had to import a ringer like him - a Russian Chess Champion - to come in and beat me. But that's okay...I was still the most electrifying player to grace the tables that day. ;)
Seriously though, it was awesome to meet everyone and "talk shop". I don't get much chance to play the game and this tournament really "jazz"-ed (pun intended) me up for playing more often. I do hope that I get to face you all on the field of battle where you will have the opportunity to trounce my Fearsome Foursome.
Excelsior!

Can we start another thread regarding the next tourney? I know its early but perhaps March 2007 would be a good date to start working towards?

I was thinking the same.
If people are coming from Ohio and if we want more room, we have a better/larger venue here in Waterloo which would also be free.
If we need we have 20 tables, and about 4 times the open space.
If not we could probably do Bramalea again.
Atmospro, I'd like to help organize it with you unless you wanted to sit out for planning and just enjoy the next one. You did everything wonderfully last time, and I was thinking with more helping hands for organization it will make it easier for you, and your wife.
Also, do you think if we get enough registered that Hasbro, or HouseMouse might sponsor some prizes?

Lots to discuss here.
First Truth I want to your butt up here if not for trouny just for a visit to show you around and bring the family.
Ketch I would certainly like some help.
Numbers will be determined by several factors.
Date, Location,and promotion.
We as also need to speard the word a little more. FK and myself are looking at going to the next TABS CondoCon and doing demos. Pandemonium XXIV is Feb 23 - Feb 25 2007 and doing some gaming and Demoing of Heroscape there could really put in good shape for players. This is the largest gaming convention in the Toronto area).
Levels of play is also an issue. I know we had a wide range in player ability over the 13 that played last Saturday. I know of at least 2 more people that didn't come because they didn't feel confident playing in a tourney with limited experience. Mrs. Pro felt this way. So what we might do is have 2 skills levels one for Beginners and one for Expert.
I also think an increase to 500 point armies is in order. i have a couple of other ideas as well but those can wait a for a while.
Waterloo might be a good choice of venue, we'll have to see. I think we can double the number of player beyond that we'll have to see.
Sponsorship might be in order from Sandra but Hasbro could be another issue as we would be dealing with the Canadian arm of the company.

There are a few nice things built in too at Waterloo.
We've got a wireless doorbell system for classes. There is a single bell chime which we use for 5 minutes left till end of class, and the double bell chime for end of class.
Its also fairly close to the express way.
This time I won't forget to advertise in our local gaming stores.
There is quite the gaming community here.
I recently also converted some of the guys I play D&D with over to playing some HS. They are thouroughly addicted and buying/asking for stuff for Christmas.
I think doubling our numbers will not be a problem. I think 30 - 40 is reasonable with that much time for recruiting.
I am a very competitive person, but I do understand that a number of people might just enjoy coming out to play with new people.
I think how we decipher between the two, and what we do should be talked about though.
Maybe Waterloo would entice those people on the US/Canada border to cross it more too.

How about early to mid March.
Waterloo would definitely turn out some more players and reserving the building would be a lot easier. We could setup a classroom with Toys and a Movie for anyone with Kids.
It would mean one hour less driving for those coming from over the border but, unfortunately it would also mean an extra hour for those coming from the other side of T.O.
Truth, did you ever get a response from anyone regarding the pack of Gorillas and Hounds you were looking for? I was at my local TRU on Monday and I hid the last pack. The sale was over but it was still scanning at 11.90 (or 11 something) it might still be there if you need it. Also, our local hobby shop up here has a ton of them but they retail at 17.99.

Might I suggest mid to late March of 2007. If March is the month, I think we can all agree pretty easily that the weather improves vastly from the beginning of March to end of March in Southern Ontario. Will make a big difference for people travelling around.
As for recruiting people, it would definitely not be hard. Think of this. In just about every college/university around, there is a gaming club. Everytime you get a couple of dudes together to play you stick a flyer on their cave rock-door telling them what's going on. You get a couple to come by. Done. They're hooked!
Another thing to make the tournament more "user-friendly" if you will, is to let people know that it is a round-robin style. I myself was under the impression it was winner stays/loser takes a hike (I can't think of something that rhymes with "stays"). Only a complete idiot would drive an hour or so just to play one game in a tournament.
Waaaaiiitttt a sec!
Anyway, if you let people know they are guaranteed so many games, you're going to make it worth their time.
Prizes...well there's lots of options really. Especially in Waterloo. I mean not only could you try House Mouse or Hasbro, but you can try a lot of the local stores, even TRU may be willing to throw in something (probably not, but worst thing they can say is no).
Okay so there are some of my thoughts. Clearly I wouldn't mind helping, especially in getting things going.
I'm getting pumped!!! Aaarrgghhh!

Well, we could also cut down on the number of people required to bring sets...
There are currently 10 Masters sets in Waterloo already...
Setup time means coming early, but since we can book the building whenever we want, we could setup our boards the night before... like 10 of them, and I am sure by Feb/March we will have more people with Master Sets because of those new friends I hooked.
Also, we don't have to worry about time when in Waterloo. We can have it all day if we book it far enough in advance.

Hi folks:
Waterloo sounds like a good location for the next Southern Ontario Heroscape event! End of February/early March sounds like an ideal time frame as well.
It may seem like a long time away right now but why dont we try to nail down a weekend for the event now so the Waterloo fellows can book the church and we can all cross it off the calendar with our families as unavailable.
I have already started thinking of armies for the next tournament that do not include Q9!
I look forward to seeing you all again soon and hopefully some new faces as well!

Love your enthusiasm Mr. Bishop. I too am already anticipating our next meeting. Can't wait to see all the new armies involved. Perhaps March 17th or 24th would work for possible dates?
We really need to work on solidifying the location a.s.a.p. I can try and get the same venue as last time or if others are good with it, we can book it in Waterloo. (The sooner the better wherever we do) We almost need a poll or something to see how many would want it here).
So far we have the following people who say they are O.K. with either location:
Mr. Bishop
Ketch
Cherub
Mighty Aarg
Canuk
Jazz
I also agree with Atmos; 500pt armies should be in order for this tourney.

Greetings, everyone.
I prefer Bramalea as a tournament location, but I would definetely still attend if it were held in Waterloo.
I also think 500-point armies would be fine, but then perhaps there should be only 4 games in the "round robin" stage. That way, the time limit for each game could be 75-90 minutes instead of 60, since 500-point army games will probably take longer to complete.
The most important thing, I think, is to (as Jazz said) set a date/time and location as soon as possible so that we have time to plan our schedules around it.
Cheers!
