Anyone checked this out yet? Another prepainted minis wargame, much like AT-43, will be coming out January 2007 from Mongoosepublishing. Look like a Warhammer 40K, squad-based combat game, but with rules based on MG's Starship Troopers game. Check it out here:

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/news/news_item.php?pkid_news=128&PHPSESSID=eef7f96b9a26518adf226f0253730617

The minis and tanks look awesome! And the pictures are supposed to represent the actual paint jobs of the figures you get in the boxed set. Its not looking like a bad deal, w/ a squad of prepainted figures going for $30. Blows away the GW priced stuff. Give it a gander.

WENT TO THE SITE AND THE FIGUARES LOOK PETTY GOOD ! WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE OR A DEMO GAME. PRICES DON,T LOOK BAD BUT NEED TO SEE OR HEAR MORE BEFORE FORKING OVER ANY MORE MONEY !

Yeah, finding another game to sink money into is probably not a great thing at the moment. But, these figures look great and I'm stoked about the historical time period with a touch of the future. I've talked to a couple of folks who like the Starship Troopers mechanic, but I haven't seen it played much around here. I'm gonna keep an eye on it and see what some of the other releases look like. Sounds like the game and figures will be in short supply, initially, in the US w/ European orders taking up 90% of the companies preorders.

Wow, nobody interested in this game even just for possible HS customs??

The "moderns" from Battlefield Evolution look very intersting to me....I have been wanting some good modern American forces but everything I found required painting.

Thanks for the link!

I am liking it a lot! The prepainted US forces look terrific, and a good place to start my search for figs for some SG-1 customs...

As I said in the cool figures from other games for Heroscape I'm looking to buy the US marines to make customs..

Uh-oh, may be time to rethink a commitment to this game  . Some new pictures replaced the old one on Mongooses website. Check out the paintjob quality on these dogs:

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/series.php?qsSeries=47

Now, check out this thread on Mongoose's site for an old and new comparison:

http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/forum.php

*oops, thread won't link. Heres the actual photos of the two:

Before

and now, apparently, after:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a89/hiromoon/BF%20Evolution%20Refrence/bfemeainfantryleader2.jpg

This has got me scratching my head. The quality has dropped immensely from the previous pictures of the supposed "production" figures. May be time to give AT-43 a more thorough look. I don't know, but its not looking good.

Seen the AT-43 production figs, and they're not haf bad. Certainly a LOT better than the "after" figure.

I was wondering how they'd manage to paint the USMC uniform - now I guess it'll just be splattered on!

boom

Nah, I still have some coming. I originally preordered quite a bit, but canceled about 70% of it when the production paintjobs were posted. I'm gonna check out what I get and decide how deeply I'll jump in from there. The rules are great, though. And yeah, I'm boomgoose over there (and just about all the other game places I used to frequent).

Battlefield Evolution is in full release here in the states. I got in my order and the figures do look nice. They are small, smaller than herscape figures, but the paint jobs are better than decent and the rules are a snap. If you haven't checked them out yet, head down to your local gaming store and give them a gander. There is some ultra cool stuff coming in the next couple of months. 8)

Any chance of getting some comparison photos next to HS humans for scale?

Annerios, are you asking about the Mongoose Starship Troopers? I can post a pic or two of them for comparison if you want. They appear to be bigger than the BE figs.

Yes, but the new pre-painted ones that are supposed to come out to replace the existing ones. I've seen shots of the old troopers and they look bigger than some GW Space Marines. Are the Mongoose SST pre-painted figures out already?

No, the SST pre-paints are due out next month. Annerios, since you're a painter/modeler, here's a heads-up. The Gamewyze store in Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville is about to put their old SST non-painted stuff on at 40% off. I was there 2 days ago when the manager told me and they had a wide selection of stuff. It was only 25% off the other day, but he said he's going to drop it lower.

BTW, I was very disappointed in the scale of the BFE tanks. I was hoping the Hulk would get to smash the puny human's tanks, but it turns out that the tanks are what is puny. Disappointed...

Ah, sorry. Thought you were talking about the unpainted ones. I was also surprised at the smaller scale of the men and tanks for BE.

Have you seen any photos of the SST painted models? I remember seeing some ages ago, but nothing current.

Thanks for the heads up, but I have so much stuff to paint or touch up, I am going to wait for the painted line. I mostly want the standard warrior bugs, a power suit trooper and a few animated show troopers like Rasczak.

A lot of people complained about the scale of the BFE vehicles, even when compared to the scale of the trooper figures used in the game! It is a shame, because they look nicely detailed.

They're from my son's set of plastic dinosuars :D . He didn't miss 'em  . You can snag some at craft stores like "Michaels" or from cake-decorating shops or bakeries who do kids b-day cakes.

The terrain fits perfectly with the figs, both size and style.

Thanks! I thought they looked like some trees I saw in a dinosaur set at Toys R Us. They look like they would work for HS too.

I can't see why you have an issue with the scale of man vs. machine - they look fine to me.

Certainly considerably better then, say, a squad of GW space marines attempting to squeeze into a Rhino.

The game itself is fast-paced and very deadly - grab cover for your troops whenever possible or you'll get shot to pieces. Sounds obvious, I know, but once you play it you'll see why.

Yet to use any armour, so I'll have to wait to see how they pan out.

Regarding SST: it's my understanding that they'll be out in August, and the 'Goose will be offering painted and unpainted versions of new units, while releasing pre-painted versions of existing sculpts.

Thanks BIGJIM. Oogie and I had our first game yesterday and his Marines blasted my British EFTF dudes. The game is pretty quick to pick up, without tons of rules and tomes to sort through. We forgot about reactions our first time through, a major blunder on my part  . But we both had it down by game two. Maybe one more to smooth out the rough edges and we should be pros :D .

Hey Boom, did you just use 1 squad each player? I was going to pick some up, but didn't know how much I needed for a decent game.

P.S. Did you play this at the Realm?

boom
March 18th, 2007, 09:58 PM
You could play a small, quick game with one squad box each. We played w/ two boxes versus two boxes and another game w/ the same boxes and 1 tank each. That seemed to work out best and gave a nice taste of the vehicle rules.

I am very impressed with the detail Mongoose put into these cards. I am definetly loving the rules and can't wait for the advaced rulebook. I've printed some of Hiro's cards and will hopefully have my first game tonight. (that is if I find anyone to play) :D I'm very interesed into the USMC and will probably play a few proxy games before making my first purchase. Thanks for introducing me to this game! :P

The basic rules are super simple and can be picked up in about 5 minutes of explanation, then solidified in one game. The main rule book that came out in May added some extra stuff (air units, buildings, artillery) that add to the game, but to me, the basic rules are the bread and butter. What I love about the game is the "reaction" rule, meaning you can sometimes shoot at your opponent or move during HIS turn. Makes for some cool moments during the game.
