ANNOUNCEMENT 2011-09-25: Unfortunately I lost the location for these events. My brother and I are no longer able to host at his house. I have moved my Heroscape collection to my house, but I do not have the kind of space he did to host an event.

I very much enjoyed hosting these events and meeting so many great people (and players) over the years. Lots of great memories...

=================================================

These were reoccurring Heroscape gaming events in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates. The plan was to meet every Month on a Sunday.

To network with other players in the area, check out the Chicagoland Scapers Index (http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=16455) thread.

I go to school at the U of Iowa (about 3.5 hours away), so I'd definitely be interested in going there a time or two. I'd probably be able to bring a couple people with me too. Would you be holding these things in Chicago proper?

ain't that the truth! although it would be an honor to battle with the champ.

spider_poison, by "proper" do you mean "by the book" without a lot of house rules? if so, the answer is yes. the only house rule i like is using the X order marker as a wildcard instead of a bluff. but i can live without it.

if you mean "tournament", i'd like to first get a regular meetup going of Heroscaping just for fun. then work in some tournaments. what this sort-of means is i'm looking more towards the local players. but if people from further away want to trek to Chicagoland and join in once in a while, that's cool too.

That's the same weekend as Chitag, so I might be up that way anyways.

You can count me as a most likely.

GaryLASQ

cool. it's like a 10min drive from the convention center in Schaumburg to my brother's house in Hoff Est.

By "Chicago proper" I was asking if it was actually in Chicago or in a suburb...but I see that's been answered. I won't know if I'll be able to make it any of the days you guys have these things until just before the actual time...so don't count me in for sure on any days. I'll keep an eye out on this thread and see what I can do though.

If you can ever do it earlier in the day, please let me know.

GaryLASQ
November 10th, 2006, 01:48 PM
the time of day is pretty flexible. i'm basically just trying to provide a location on a regular basis, for players in the area looking from a game. the 4pm to 9pm time slot is arbitrary for now.

tonight i'll PM those that were interested in the tourney that was cancelled and see who can make it on either 11/18 or 12/2. then i'll find out what time of day works best.

Ok, because I am a heroscape fool, I wouldnt mind going out with you all in Chicagoland either from Minneapolis which is a good distance, but would be fun sometime for a long weekend the other direction, and I would be glad to come out for some good old fashioned butt whippin on me.

Hey, this sounds good to me. It doesn't always have to be hosted by you either. I don't have a big place, but wouldn't mind hosting once we get started. I'm on the south end of Cook County. I'll check with the GF tomorrow and see what we're doing that weekend.

good deal legoboy. i like the idea of moving the location around. the goal here is having someone in the area hosting every other week. and we can use this thread to announce 'em.

until the Event system is sorted out i'll just keep track of everything in the first post. so, i can host the first two meetups on 11/18 and 12/2. the thing to be determined is time of day.

oogiezone and I are about 99% there. We just need to figure out something to do with the Dog and finalize our plans for the weekend.

We will be going to Chitag early in the day to check out whats there, play some Rio Grande Games and then head over, we might be a little late. If Chitag sucks (which I have heard it does), we will be at 4.

If there is interest in playing other games, I have quite a few that I could bring. I can give a list, if there is an interest in me bringing something.

BTW, how did you come up with 520 points?

November 13th, 2006, 12:59 AM
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGH!

Dang!I couldn't make the last one and now I can't make either one of these!!!!!!

Big "Atta-Boy" to you Gary for trying to get a more regular gathering going.Although I doubt I will ever make "regular" status, it will provide more opportunities. We may not be one of the biggest, but we are one of the oldest.

I was really hoping to make the 11-18 date and get to meet Nether and get to see his customs too.

GaryLASQ
November 13th, 2006, 12:57 PM
BTW, how did you come up with 520 points?i've sort of settled in on it. you can get some decent synergy going with adequate multiples on commons. and it's not so high that games last too long. (with no more than 4 players on the same map.)

GaryLASQ
November 17th, 2006, 12:13 AM
haven't had a chance to work out the maps yet. since we'll have eight players i figure 2 maps with 4 players per map. everyone for themselves.

i'm thinking about placing a small neutral castle (one castle set) in the middle of each map. but i'm not sure about this. sorry i don't have the maps nailed down yet.

btw, bring some $ for pizza. see you at 4pm-ish.

GaryLASQ
November 27th, 2006, 02:56 PM
no problem JD. i guess the holiday season is less of a holiday for some...

so the theme for last time ended up being "Symmetrical Surprise". if you were there you know what i mean by this.

for this Saturday (12/2) i was thinking maybe the theme could be "Hasbro Draft". we use 3 or 4 Hasbro maps/scenarios and do drafting instead of pre-made armies. (was inspired by the podcast that talked about "Drafting - The Lost Art Form".) how does this sound?

for 12/16 i would like to put Modular Maps into action. more on that later...

Sure, what the heck. I might as well embarrass myself outside my usual Heroscape group. You'll have to PM me that address again and maybe a phone # in case I get lost. I worked in Lisle a month or so ago, so I have an idea of how to get up there, Hoffman Estates looks to be north a bit off 355 or thereabouts.

well darn it, but it looks like I have kids the weekend of 16-17 Dec, and from that point on every two weeks I have them, so if you are gonna run something the opposite weekends would work better for me. IE...

20-21 January weekend open
3-4 February weekend open

that's what I have got so far for the Chicago road trip bender!

GaryLASQ
November 29th, 2006, 04:10 PM
there's a good chance the every-other-weekend schedule will get out of sync occasionally, based on participation and my ability to attend. so i'll keep these dates in mind.

interestingly, someone else has a similar situation but he has the kids every-other week on the weekends in between the weekends of this ongoing event.

I also can't make the 16th and 30th. But will definitely try to make it again sometime in January.

I ordered a couple sets of wave six from House Mouse, so hopefully I'll have it by Christmas.

I'll probably get some more of the archers, kyrie and orcs once they hit the stores.

Joah
December 9th, 2006, 11:09 PM
Gary, I checked with the "Better 1/2" and the 16th could work. However, an early start would work best.
Is one or two possible? (have to be back before 10.)

It looks like the 30th won't work out at all though, and that stinks. :(

bad news for 12/16. my boys are in Kyuki-Do and have white/yellow belt testing this Saturday afternoon. no telling how long it will last.

Joah, jdtenor, Darkspade and anyone else wanting to play, how does this Sunday sound instead?

for the next meetup (be it this Sunday or on 12/30) i was thinking about using 3 or 4 maps done by the same person. i really like the ones by Kahrma that are in the downloads section.

here are the ones i'm considering:

When is the first gathering of '07?for now i'm thinking 1/13 (two weeks from this Saturday). let me know if the weekend before (1/6) or after (1/20) works better for you. i know 1/20 is better for Slade.

maybe we should do 1/6 here in Chicagoland and do 1/20 at my parent's house in Rockton, IL again. this would shave off over an hour of drive time for you and Slade on 1/20.

Saturday's game day was a light turnout (four players) but we had a "mini tourney" and GuyGG came out of the looser's bracket to win the championship. :)

i'll have pictures and a battle report in the next couple of days (when my website is working again.)

there were a couple interesting things to mention. for example, did you know Syvarris is a good counter for a Raelin backed Q9 ?? (right TD and GuyGG? :) ) or that the Tagawa Samurai can take down 7 Einar Imperium figures?

BTW, i have a conflict with Saturday 1/13 so for now i've moved then next meetup to Sunday 1/14.

i haven't had much time to think about maps for this Sunday. Kahrma's maps are fun to play on and since the Bridge map and Shelf map are still set up in my Heroscape Room, i'd like to give them another go. i don't think Spencer or Guy will mind using them again.

except instead of Spring Thaw i'd like to suggest Cerulean Pools be a third map choice - gives me an excuse to buy that second EOV Master set :).

also, i'd like to put a couple Glyphs on both the Bridge and Shelf maps (i'll display them sometime tomorrow). we can try out the Glyphs that Kahrma has already put on the Pools map.

everyone should still plan on bringing two different pre-made 520 point armies. we could also do drafting. i'm thinking about using the Shelf map as a possible team game (2 on 2) with drafting (using my collection so no need to bring extra figures for the draft). the Shelf map has room for doubling the start zone at both ends.

so here they are again.

for this weekend i'd like to drag out one of my old scenarios. it's called "Bring Me Some Orcs" and is played on my "Muspellgata" battlefield.

http://heroscape.glasq.com/maps/garylasq_map0200_muspellgata.gif
[PDF (http://heroscape.glasq.com/maps/garylasq_map0200_muspellgata.pdf)] of battlefield assembly. [Link (http://heroscape.glasq.com/maps/garylasq_map0201_muspellgata.htm)] to Scenario

it can be played by 2, 3, 4 or 5 players. i've played the 2 and 3 player versions a couple of times and the scenario seems to hold up well. i've done the 4 player version once but that was before i streamlined the rules.

it depends how many players show up this Sunday before we'll know how many will play on the Muspellgata map -- hopefully 5 players. we also need to decide who will be fighting for Utgar and who will be fighting against Utgar. plus if we get 5 on it i'm thinking the 2 players fighting against Utgar should get a bit more than 370 points each.

i'll have another map or two ready for other players that don't play the "Bring Me Some Orcs" scenario.

couple things about this scenario...

- there is one particular unique hero (who follows Utgar) that this scenario we designed around. see if you can figure out which one.

- also, note how teams are defined but the victory conditions assigns ultimate victory to only one player, and how victory points can go negative for destroying a friendly figure (yes, i know...i'm evil)

post here with "yes" or "maybe".

Kahrmas maps were fun. and my son, his friend and i got in a game on my Muspellgata map last week. but i would like to try some of the Modular Maps in my collection partly because i'd like to use some maps that are a bit flatter with a more open terrain for better mass squad movement.

yes but you have to post in this thread to make it official :)

first post has been updated with everyone, putting us at 7. i'll see about finding one other player to make it an even 8. (although there will be 6 early on before JD shows.)

i whipped up another castle mop yesterday. not sure how or if we will use it but here it is.
http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/2007030901.jpg
http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/2007030902.jpg
it uses 0.5 of a master set, plus 1 road/forest set and 1 caste set. now to figure out what other mop(s) to hook up with it.

maybe this could be a good 3 player game - 2 against 1 with 1 player in the castle. all 3 players with 520 points.

edit: the gap in the battlements is because i used up all 50. there are 4 ladders, 3 are visible in this picture. i decided to take the 1 interior ladder that you don't see in this picture and placed it outside where that gap in the battlements is. you could consider it a back door so to speak, or a weak spot where a sieging army has breached the wall.

having some more fun with the modular map stuff. pics below are of a nice big map i'd like to try out. after this game day i'll give the modular map stuff a rest and look to maps done by other members on the fansite.

i'd like to do drafting this time (520 or 540 or so) where players place figures anywhere on the first 3 levels and not inside a castle. this is similar to the Hasbro Melee at the Wellspring of Obsession scenario. let's say that players can not place figures closer than 5 spaces to an opposing figure (and maybe a "no further away than X space from any opposing figure" rule). it might be free-for-all or maybe teams...not sure yet.

if we draft (with no dup cards between players) then my collection will be enough and nobody needs to bring anything. but it wouldn't hurt if players bring a couple of pre-made 520 point armies (and dice, markers) just to be safe.

welp, it was just me, Spencer and Guy for today's battle. the big modular map worked out very well by using the "no start zones" approach. and restricting placement so that no figure could start out closer than five spaces to an opposing figure also helped spread the action out.

one of the two castles saw plenty of action. the three of us each drafted 620 point armies and went at it free-for-all in a three player game. Spencer won with some amazing D20 rolling with his Shades taking control of my Brunak and Guy's Q9. it came down to just two figures left on the map, Spencer's Brunak (that he took from me) and Guy's Theracus, with Brunak being the last figure standing.

not going to give a big battle report this time but is was a good game. and a long game -- 5 hours.

That would be more than cool. I've already grabbed a MarvelScape myself from Gamer's Paradise. Unfortunately, GP marked it up five dollors to $35.

I'll have two Aaryglynn maps built, so we could do both scenarios at the same time. That should cover it unless we get more than 8 players. If Nev shows that would be 9 already. I'll have a smaller map on the side put together.

Spencer told me a little bit about his first game against langfordrocks; which was a close game. Apparently, Spencer had both Nilfhiem and Isamu on his army. Using Kee-Mo-Shi, langfordrocks Mind Shackled Nilfheim away from Spencer. So Spencer ended up using Isamu to kill Nilfheim (which already had 2 wounds when Shackled). The slippery 10-point sucker Vanished 3 times and survived the game.

Hey, guys! I'm excited about these new Hasbro Scenarios. (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/pl/newsID.CF907638-D56F-E112-49E31A6E29E56207/page.news/dn/default.cfm)

I've got 1 Aaryglynn (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/Aaryglynn_battlefield1.pdf) built and waiting for this Sunday. I was going to build a second one but now I think I'll build a Valledonn (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/valledonn_master.pdf) and Bloodred River (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/bloodred_river_master.pdf) instead.

Not sure yet if we should go with pre-made armies or drafting. If we go pre-made, maybe we should make an attempt at deciding on which scenario and who will be Player 1, 2, etc ahead of time. If we go drafting, players will need to bring their whole collection. (Some borrowing of my collection is fine.)

Your nephew is definitely welcome. Chuynn's son and my son will be playing as well.

I have one of Cav's water mats. But if you have others besides water I'd be interested in seeing them.

What do you think about drafting versus pre-made? I'm thinking if we can coordinate this, maybe we could do pre-made and go as far as deciding on scenarios and who will be which player ahead of time. (To do this I will need to send out a few PMs tomorrow.)

GaryLASQ

I've decided against Valledonn. After looking over the scenarios I think I'll stick with the original plan of building two Aaryglynn (http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/20070722/Aaryglynn_battlefield1.pdf) maps. Plus I'll make a Bloodred River (http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/20070722/bloodred_river_master.pdf)
map. The "Treacherous Crossing" scenario for Bloodred looks simple enough for 2, 3 or 4 players.

I've given some thought to finding a more public location like a library. Some libraries in the area have "game nights".

------------

For this Sunday, we're leaning towards drafting. My own collection can handle at least one scenario, maybe even all three scenarios depending on who wants to draft what.

I have 2 of every unique (6 if RotV) and 5 of every common. (However, many of my 2nd-copy uniques are still in the blister pack.)

If you have a large collection and don't want to bring everything, just bring what you're most likely to draft just in case there is a drafting "conflict" within my collection.

Well I noticed you're in Bartlett, I live near there, have you ever considered asking the park district if you could use a room there?

GaryLASQ
July 21st, 2007, 12:58 AM
They charge a fee (as does the Library). Usually around $40 for a couple of hours. But the Roselle Library (I think it is Roselle) has game nights where people bring different games and there's no fee. Not sure they have the table space for more than a couple HS battelfields, with all the other games being played.

-----------------

The Bloodred River map and two Aaryglynn maps are built, ready and waiting for players on Sunday. Max players per map is 4, so there's room for a couple more players.

July 22nd, 2007, 10:23 AM
Gary, which Aaryglynn scenario are you planning on running? Will it be both?

(To help speed up the draft, I'm trying to get a list of choices together.)

------

Hasbro swears that Wall Walks and Roads are separate. The concensus of 'Scapers is that they are the same. Which way do you play?

------

wrestlingking235, sorry to hear about your situation. You need to teach an older sibling or parent to play. :)
Gary's events have quite a diverse age range and are pretty family orientated.

Bloodred River looks fun to play. I built it for yesterday's event but only played the Aaryglynn map myself.

Those Aaryglynn scenarios are long games even with just 3 players. We did drafting which added about an extra 45 minutes. So the 6 players on those two maps could only fit in one game before leaving. Was hoping everyone would be able to play 2 games.

Although Stacey, Flynn and Spencer finished on Bloodred River and then played a second game on it using Marvel figures.

Tonight or tomorrow I'll fire up a Battle Report thread for yesterday's happenings... (Didn't do such a great job taking pictures this time unfortunately. :( )

As expected, we had a lot of fun and will definately look forward to attending again.

I'm glad you and Trevor, and everyone else who showed, made it for some Heroscaping on Sunday. It was fun trying to defend the castle in that crazy scenario. In hind-sight I think I should have just gone with all Gladiatrons and Blastatrons. :)

But I've got some bad news.

I really wanted to get a regular gaming group going again but unfortunately real life is going to be more hectic than I thought it would be for the next month or longer. So I'm going to have to step away from Heroscape for a while. Probably won't be posting much here at Heroscapers.com either. (The trip to GenCon might even be in doubt at this point :( )

Sorry to be a disappointment... I'll keep my HS website running but it will be pretty static for a while.

If anyone has an average size battlefield they want to show off, let me know. With 4 folding tables, I could squeeze in 4 players per table (either as 2 teams on one medium size map, or as 2 separate 2 player games on 2 smaller maps.)

Yeah, I really like the way these two modular maps fit together. It is a very nice looking battlefield. Thanks for reworking your army at the last second since I hadn't really thought through (or prepared anyone for) a two player scenario for that map. Coming up with an 800 point army on the fly was not an easy thing to do.

Of the two Marro/Marrden armies I controlled in the two games I played, my first army (the one I played against you) worked out much better on that battlefield than the one I played against Nev and Spencer in the 3-player scenario.

Two obvious choices for this battlefield against an all Marro/Marrden army would be Templars and Microcorp, which is what Nev and Spencer used ... and it was a killer combo. Nev's addition of Laglor to give his 2 squads of Microcorp the extra range was wicked.

After witnessing 3 games now on the 3-player scenario, I think the Marro/Marrden army could use just a few more points. Maybe around 960 would be about right against the 2-player team of 640 (320 points each). It will be interesting to see how the Marro Cavalry match up with the Templars once Collection 8 is out.

Two against one games are tricky to get the pointage right without a lot of playtesting. But from what you've already witnessed in that particular scenario, it's obvious that the Marro army needs bumping up.

It was like that when we first started playing 2 vs 1 on castle maps and it's still hard to figure out sometimes.

Oh and by the way, it was nice to meet Nev and see you, Spencer, Guy, Chuck, Stacey and Flynn again.

Bah. I just realized a missed opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility of modular maps...

When everyone arrived we were trying to decide how to split up players on the different maps and Hahma and I ended up playing 2 players on the scenario that called for 3, mostly so that 4 players could play on the "Hmm" map. Well, because it is modular, the Hmm map could have easily been broken down from a 4-player map like this...
http://heroscape.glasq.com/battlefields/hsbf0036s01l01.png

...into a 3-player map like this,

so that we could have gone with the desired 3-players for the first game on the Marro Rising map. :duh:

Pre-made armies are a gamble. Drafting is better. Next time I think one map for four players should do the draft and just pick from my collection. Then have a couple maps for premade armies that players bring with them.

The Marro map was the first exposer we have had to many of the new figures from "Swarm of the Marro." It got us fired up about using them, in some of our games.
The more I use the new master set the more I like the characters in it. There's a scenario I playtested with my son (played it 4 times so far) that uses just the SotM set with pre-set positions for all the characters. I should get that posted on my website.

I'm just now getting some time (been a busy week) to think about maps for Sunday. I was considering that Aaryglynn map again for 4 players who would draft from my collection. Then a few modular maps we've done in the past for people to put their 520 point armies on.

We may have to team up as 2 vs. 2 simply because of the number of players to each table (room for 4 tables).

Long time no see! I think we can squeeze in four more.

I'll have some maps up on this thread tonight when I get home from work.

Chances are good that it'll be just me and her. In fact, I've got slightly better odds on winning the lottery than convincing my friends to join me in the trek. And I didn't even buy a ticket.

Ugh, I've been trying to make a reasonable sized MOP with the SotM, but it ends up either dominated by Vipers and Marro, or leaves them high-and-dry (pardon the pun). Too small a kitchen table is the primary problem, I think, so it'll be fun to play on full-sized board again.

Changed my mind. I want everyone to have a chance to mix it up and play at least two games. So rather than 520 points like I usually go with I'd like to reduce it down to 480 point pre-made armies. This will help a 4 player game go a little faster. Bring 2 or 3 different 480 point armies with you.

And I feel like getting into the community spirit this time and try some maps made by members here.

1) Glacier Pass (http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=973) by Browncoat
This one is perfect for a 2 team (4 player) game with lots of startzone room. No Glyphs (probably). Heavy Snow, Normal Ice
http://www.heroscapers.com/download/downloads//Glacier_Pass.jpg

2) Anubis (http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=877) by ch1can0
Gotta try this one. Don't count on the glyph selection and placement since I'll have to expand the startzones a bit to fit 4 players playing in 2 teams. So I'm thinking about putting 1 Lodin glyph where the Gerda glyph is in the middle and remove the two Lodins without replacing them. And I will probably take the other Glyphs and change them, shuffle them and place them symbol-side up.
http://www.heroscapers.com/download/downloads//anubis6.jpg

3) Into the Breech (http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=154) by Grungebob and Rychean
I've been meaning to try this one but haven't yet. And there is plenty of room to expand startzones for a 2 team (4 player) game if needed.
http://www.heroscapers.com/download/downloads//Into_the_Breech.jpg

That takes care of up to 12 players and leaves an open table for something on the fly, like some SotM or Marvel. As far as Marvel goes, I don't mind if people mix Marvel with Classic for this event. In fact, I just played on Wednesday and watched my son use his Ninjas of the Northwind to take out his cousin's Captain America. It was a beautiful sight. :)

Time for local area players to gather once again for some Heroscaping.

I was thinking Saturday 7/12 or Sunday 7/13. I know several of you will be attending GenCon, so I figure we can setup up as many as 4 tables with two GC maps on each table. So that means a maximum of 16 players. This will not be a formal tournament but we can treat it like a tournament by separating winners from losers for a second round of play. Then those who can stay late enough for a third game (or more) can sort out who plays against who.

So who's interested?

Once we get details hammered out I'll create an event on the Heroscapers.com calendar.

Hosting at my brother's house is no problem, but if someone else has an idea for a different location, let me know.

Saturday works better for me, but on the off chance that my parents actually let me go (they don't like the idea that it's not a public place...but maybe I can convince them..) I wouldn't be able to get there until mid-afternoon.

EDIT: Aside from the fact that it isn't a public place, my parents also don't want to drive me that far, so you can go ahead an disregard the above message.

GaryLASQ
July 9th, 2008, 08:34 PM
Windy_City_Hawk, no problem with the 3pm arrival.

We'll be using these 6 GC Maps:

http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//feylund%20fountain__8P3.jpg http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//winterholdoutff_759.jpg http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//wolfswamproad__9hD.jpg http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//ticallisunrise__1tR.jpg http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//fire_isles_ej9.jpg http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//highways__KOk.jpg

Normal Snow and Slippery Ice will be used for Winter Holdout.

In general, players should bring 450 point pre-made armies, no Marvel. It can be assumed we will be playing the generic Damnation Alley kill-em-all GenCon scenarios. The limit of 24 startzone spaces will be enforced. Games will not be timed, but after an hour, if a game is not finished, players may want to take stock of who is leading point-wise. And if a couple of players are waiting for some fresh blood, players in an hour-old game may want to "call it" just to keep things moving...

If you would like to bring a couple of extra armies that are more specific to other GC events, that's fine. Two players can agree on a "specialized" scenario before starting a game. If you do plan to bring some specialized armies, please come somewhat prepared, so players aren't waiting too long for you to decide on which Marvel character you want to use in a "Marvel Power of One" game, for example.

HERE (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showpost.php?p=563540&postcount=1) are the GC scenarios.

I just went with 450 because most of the GC events call for 450. Plus games will go a little faster. Normally though, I do prefer 520 with about 30 startzone spaces.

I'm signed up for the Unique Hero event (500 points) so I'll probably put together one of those myself for this Sunday.

Thanks for hosting this event Gary and Guy. Despite my lack of success in the three games that I played, I had a lot of fun. I'll have to come up with some better armies in the future and try to squeeze out a little more skill out of my pea brain :D

It was good to get to meet and play Jexik for the first time. He was helpful in reminding me of things during the game, as I was in need of every bit of help I could get :D. It was a fun game and good to see Otonashi get her first career assassination for me.

Guy took me out once again. He tried to make me feel confident early on, but then the hammer came down and his army took over.

And Gary, just because I have an avatar of me running a marathon (20 years ago) doesn't mean that I still run them ;) That first game took a good long time, but I had fun and at least did some damage with my spiders toward the end. I should have sent them all out early on instead of that big bug Sujoah, as he didn't do squat. Lesson learned, keep the big bug back and not paint such a big target on his back. Anyway, that was a fun game and a fun map.

It was nice to meet Tokomi, Windy City Hawk and Jdtenor, I wish there was time for us to get some games in, perhaps another time down the road.

It sure did! I think I finished 2 games in that time... and I came in halfway through.

It was awesome to meet you Hahma. I'd give you some rep, but apparently I did it too recently.

I should probably bust out my dreaded Gladiator/Dünd combo next time, or just play my favorite Arrow Gruts. I always seem to lose with them even though I love to play them. I hear the words 'GenCon' and I immediately leap to my favorite Dragon and a bunch of little rodents.

Well Jexik, I gave you some rep for the good time and the help.

I guess when it comes to 'GenCon', people want to have a good showing considering the huge event that it is amongst many peers, along with the expense of it all. So it's natural to want to field a competitive army that will help one get the most out of the experience.

I haven't played in any tournaments and mostly play with three player maps, so I guess while I'm cometitive and want to win, I want to try out different armies even though they might not be the smartest for these types of events. I guess I figure that I have so much money invested in these figures, I kind of want to use them all at one point or another. More than anything, I enjoy meeting other people like those that were at this event and b.s. about Heroscape or whatever while enjoying the game that I love but don't have as much time to play as I would like. Once I get my basement done, I should have more time to play this game, hopefully :D

Lord_Paul said that he is going to check to see if he can reserve some tables at either Games Plus in Mt. I certainly don't expect anyone else to really do this, but I'm 90% sure I'll be heading out to Iowa. (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=20643) Aside from the fact that it significantly decreases my chances of winning an NHSD event, I had an awful lot of fun last year.

If Chicago does not get a NHSD tourney together ( or even if they do ) you all are invited to the Tree Town Open. The state of Illinois could use more representation at the Tree Town Open. Anyway you are all welcome to come over. Hope to see some of you.

I'll try to make it a point to make the next one Gary. Regarding the basement, the bathroom is about done. The fixtures are in and working, I just have to paint the doors and trim and then the walls again. The bar/family room area is on hold for now as I'm having to work some side jobs on weekends. My wife quit her job in Chicago (after 21 years of a long commute, the last 8 years of which have been 2hrs each way) and is looking for a part-time evening job while the twins are in kindergarten so we can save on daycare and she can spend more time with them. So I have to take on some side jobs on weekends to get bills paid while she's not working. So unfortunately, on weekends that I'm off (like this one) I want to spend time with the kids and relax without having to worry about the basement. Actually, tonight I'm going to play HS with my nephew. I haven't played at all since the last time I was at your place :(

I'll keep checking this thread to see when the next session is up your way after Thanksgiving and I'll not schedule a side job that weekend. Good luck and have fun next weekend.
