Just Matt made it this week, so it was a two player game night, which opened with Blue Moon. The last time Matt and I played this, it was our first time, so we weren't playing everything right. Since then I utilized BGG to help me get set straight, and we were able to play it correctly.
I believe Matt chose the Vulca and was able to get a 3 dragon win with the leadership card that discards 8 fire to attract a dragon.
We then switched decks, and I was able to pull out a 3 dragon win with the support card that attracts a second dragon.
I am really enjoying Blue Moon. I think I will pick up some of the deck if I ever see them around. I would also like to get the board game it I find that somewhere.
I have quite a few games of Castle under my belt, but this was Matt's first time. It was a pretty interesting game, with a very empty courtyard. The towers were fought over fairly heavily, and there was a great battle on the ramparts. Like most people the first time one plays Castle, one does not realize the importance of certain tiles like the soldiers and the siege engines, and at the end of the game Matt had a fair amount of soldiers in his hand.
This was both Matt and my first play of this game. We picked up the simple mechanics mostly with ease. The large words in the rulebook try to trick you into thinking that it is going to be difficult to learn.
Matt is a pretty big Backgammon fan, and seemed to like the relation that he saw to it. I thought it was alright, but it was pretty much roll and move. I also think we could have done better with moving the neutral pieces, but we pretty much were worried about our own pieces. I would like to try this game with 3 or 4, because I think that would make for a bit more fun game, and more of a reason to devote your Hauraspexes to one of the other temples.
I ended up winnig this one by getting more of my Hauraspexes into the temple than Matt.
The last game of the evening was Alhambra. I just recently picked this one up from Tanga.com. I had played several 2 player games before this, but it was Matt's first time.
It was a good game, with the invisible player giving us a run for our money on the first few scoring rounds by randomly drawing a whole bunch of towers, gardens and chambers!!!
I ended up winning the game, and I think the invisible player got second thanks to the great drawing he got.
All in all, it was another fun-filled Monday night, and I can't wait to do it again!
