The map:
The map I made up the week before. I called it "Dumutef Overpass."

The players:
I invited over some of my martial arts / gaming buddies for a friendly battle of al time. Unfortunately, all that commited did not show, so we were stuck with a difficult number: 5. Kevin, Dan, Jesse, Jen, and myself(Dave)
The armies:
With 5 ppl, I let the other 4 players pair\up, and I decided to be the bridge guardian. Anyone who attemped to cross the bridge would become my enemy. I picked all 4 of the Dumutef Guards out of the drafting pool before anyone started. Jen had never played before, and I had new figs since the last time my other friends had played, so the drafting process as we all know can drag on. In the end, here's how it ended up:
On the lava side of the river
Jen: 490pts - 3 squads of Venoc Vipers, EOV, Venoc Warlord, Mimring.
Jesse: 500pts - Taelord, 1 squad of Minions, AE, and Syvarris.
On the grassy side of the river
Kevin: 500pts - DW9K, Deadeye Dan, 2 squads of Microcorp, and the Krav Maga.
Dan: 490pts - Concan, Kelda, and 3 squads of Sentinals.
After drafting of the main armies had completed, I picked another couple of cards from the remaining stack that I thought would be fun as an equalizer force.
Dave: 270pts - 4 x Dumuteff Guards, Krug, and the Marro Warriors.
I placed all of the Dumutef guards on top of the double hex pillars of the bridge. I placed Krug in the middle of the bridge and the Marro Warriors underneath.
I don't have a blow by blow, or a whole bunch of photos, but I think I remember pretty clearly how the action went down.
Round 1 - "The Advancement"
Jesse advanced Syvarris and took a few shots across the river. Jen moved up her EOV and attacked my Marro Warriors, killing one of them. Kevin put turn markers on Deadeye Dan who was on a VERY high hill by the river. No one came close enough this round to be in range. Dan advanced all of his sentinals with Concan.
Round 2 - "Melee"
It seemed to me that no one was going to even bother trying to cross the bridge, so I put all my markers on the Marros. Jen moved the EOV up to cut off the sentinal advancement. One lone Eov attacked and killed another of my Marros. The sentinals fought back, killing an EOV, Deadeye dan missed everything he shot at, and Jesse wounded Concan with Syvarris. My Marro missed everything they shot at. I needed a new plan.
Round 3 - "Enter: Krug"
Mimring came out of nowhere and killed my remaining Marros. Marros - 0, Jen - 4. I lost my first round movement but Krug jumped off the bridge later and beat the heck out of mimring. 1 wound left at the end of the round. The lone EOV and Mimring gave Krug 3 wounds in the process. On the other side of the battlefield, Minions were meeting Sentinals that were encircling Concan. Jen had advanced her vipers, but with a bad frenzy roll, they ended up in the middle of the river. Kevin's Microcorp took 2 down.
Round 4 - "The River Runs Red"
The AE make their drop. They got the initiative as well and dropped their grenades into the fray of ranged figures on the grassy mountain. They wounded Deadeye Dan and took out a couple Krav Maga, and 1 Microcorp. Krug was angry. He killed both Mimring and the EOV in his first turn. Now the question was, where to go? I decided that I'd go around the board killing high pointed figures and try to keep the battlefield kinda even. I just took 150+ pts from Jen, it was time to hit Kev's DW9K. Krug island hopped (god I love dbl hex figs) to the grassy riverbank and almost engaged him. He was cut off by some microcorps trying to sneak towards the Minion / Sentinal rumble. In the fray, the Minions wer doing quite well, they took down 2 sentinals and Taelord advanced to give his aura as support. Jen, with the loss of Mimring, was using her remaining 2 EOV to frenzy and try to finish off Concan with no success. Deadeye Dan tried to pick off Taelord, but no such luck.
Round 5 - "Odds become evened"
Feeling bad that my "neutral" army took out Mimring, I HAD to kill the DW9k. It would have been wrong not to. On my way there, the microcorp gave him 2 more wounds. Thank you! I rolled a single attack that was blocked. The 2nd attack got through, and took out the DW9K. Sentinals were scrambling for higher ground, and I was making calculations to see which team was in the lead, points wise. It was very close, but it turned out that Taelord would be my next target for Krug. 2 of the 2 squads of Venocs were wiped out by the Sentinals.
Round 6 - "Tactical Retreat"
Knowing what my plan was, the lavaside team decided to fall back to their homeland higher ground. They lost their remaining EOV in the process. Krug never reached Taelord. The AE were continuing to harass the Microcorp and Deadeye Dan. The Microcorp fought back, but failed to kill the last AE. Kelda flew in to heal Deadeye but rolled a 1. Deadeye dan: Killed by friendly fire. Sylvaris was caught by some Microcorp fire and killed. Krug was finished off by the Minions and Taelord. By the end of the round, this is how the armies stood:
Jen: 160pts - 1 Squad of Venoc Vipers & the Venoc Warlord.
Jesse: 262pts - 1 AE fig, 2 Minions, unwounded Taelord.
Dan: 134pts - 1 squad Sentinals, Concan w/3 wounds, Unwounded Kelda.
Kevin: 100pts - 2 Microcorp Figs, 1 Krav Maga Fig.
Round 7 - "What makes the Grass Grow?"
Dan and Kevin decided that the best way to up their odds of winning was to finish off one of the other 2 players. Since Jen had less figs/pts, she was going to be it. Jen was taken out by the last remaining Sentinals killing her Vipers and the Warlord. Taelord took a wound and 1 minion was killed. Jesse's AE was taken out by the Microcorp.
Round 8 - "CHARGE!!!"
Jesse went on the offensive to try and get back on top. It didn't turn out well. The ranged units were too much for Taelord and his remaining Minion to handle. They were cut down on the grassy bank.
Conclusion
Great game! We had a ton of fun. It was unfortunate that we had an odd number. I had to restrain myself a bit to not unbalance the game. Next time I pull out this map, I hope to be able to go full throttle.
