Just wanted to give a shout-out to R˙chean and all the other volunteers that make 'scape at GenCon as awesome as it is! I had a blast this weekend, and I know my little brothers did too. You guys have my thanks for running some awesome events, I hope to see more of the same in the future(hey, maybe next year I'll actually help out with some of it!).

I agree, everything went VERY smooth even with that many people.

Had a great time and met a lot of cool guys and gals.:D

My first Gen Con and glad to see this thread, otherwise I would have started one myself.

I'm grateful to have been a part of this. The biggest thanks goes to R˙chean; it was a pleasure to have met him and seen first hand the results of his efforts. The volunteers were on top of it as well and there was a real nice sense of community. I even didn't mind the seating resets because each time I ducked playing an opponent I would have rather avoided. ;)

Without a doubt, it was the most fun and intense gaming I've ever done. I used to attend board game conventions back in the 80's while in high school/college, so I have some degree of perspective on the above statement.

It was great to meet everyone that I've been reading about on this forum for the past year. Everyone was fun to play with/against. Furthermore, although I like to laugh and tease my opponent during the match -- which is probably too distracting -- I'm also self-depreciative to a fault. I'm trying to work on that, but the high level of play had me a bit out of my comfort zone! So, a big thank you to everyone who shared their insights about the game with me, I learned a lot.

Special shout out to Lord Trask (Larry, it was great to meet you!). Not only did he swap out for free a painted Sam Brown sculpt for a regular one, the man ran out to his car -- in the middle of insane humidity, no less -- to loan me a Concan figure for the ToC tourney. Or was it your hotel room? Please say it was your car, it makes the story far more epic. Either way, reply to this thread so I can pos rep you, sir!

I'm glad I discovered this game and I'm glad I went -- I can't recommend the Gen Con Heroscape experience enough.

Rychean rocks! Thanks for all the hard work you've put in all these years.

Also a big thanks from the Nebraska crew (well at least half of us) to Lonewolf for letting us stay with you and Scaper Dude. We had a blast!

I don't have really have anything to say that hasn't been said, but I'd like to thank Rychean (once again) and I was rather amazed at how well it ran even when he was participating in tournaments, so I'd also like to thank everyone else who helped Rychean run it. And thanks for all the cool prizes!

A big thanks goes to the main man R˙chean for making all the fun possible. I also have to give HUGE thanks to my wife for stepping up and GMing on Sunday so I could participate in ToC. She was a bit nervous at first but seemed to get the hang of it. Now she just needs to learn how to crack the whip so everyone finishes when she calls time for a game. I also want to thank Tiny Timmy for getting a vehicle and riding out with us a day earlier than he had planned. And last but not least I want to thank EVERYONE for not kicking me for playing 20 rats in the Slugfest but I did give alot of people a heads up that I was playing it so :neener:

R˙chean Thank you! I'm glad you lead gencon for all this time and when I first met you sir it was like seeing a new President fresh, hopeful and ready to conquer the world, then they leave tired, stressed and with a lot more grey hair. Your leadership will be missed. May God bless you sir! & I can't wait to see you next year in a more relaxed atmosphere!
Respectfully George!

Thanks to R˙chean for organizing this all not just this year, but in years past too! Also thanks to all the GMs and others who volunteered for set up and clean up, to Retlaw for the pictures and for storing all the 'Scape, and thanks to everyone who played!

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but this was my first Gencon and it really was awesome. I had so much fun playing and meeting so many new people and I just want to thank Rychean and all the volunteers so much, because it was a week that I certainly won't forget. :D

Thanks to Rychean for running another great Gencon Heroscape event. And thanks to all the scapers out there who participated in the Tournaments, without you Heroscape at GenCon would not exist. Keep on Scaping!!

First I want to thank R˙chean for all the work he did setting this up. As this also was my first GenCon and first Heroscape competition, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you again!

Second, I want to thank everyone that I played against. I couldn't have enjoyed it if I didn't have an opponent. You all fought well and I enjoyed every battle I went into. Thank you!

Thanks!

That is for everyone that I met over the weekend. We (killergoat72 and I) love heroscape because it is a great game, and we love heroscapers because it is the best community on the internet. That quality was very evident in all of my opponents and the others that I shared a laugh with.

My biggest thanks is to Ry (and his army of volunteers), he has refined the HS tournament into an art and I am sure that he will be very effective in downloading his knowledge/expertise into the next brain. When Ry announced that he would no longer run these at Gencon, our decision to attend was a no brainer.

Special shout out to Lord Trask (Larry, it was great to me you!). Not only did he swap out a painted Sam Brown sculpt for a regular one, the man ran out to his car -- in the middle of insane humidity, no less -- to loan me a Concan figure for the ToC tourney. Or was it your hotel room? Please say it was your car, it makes the story far more epic.

In my car. It was my pleasure. I really enjoyed our games and you were a lot of fun between games. I will watch for your posts and neg rep appropriately ;)

Spideysox and TheMind, I wish you the best!

I want to say thank you to Rychean and everyone else as well! Though I didn't play I still enjoyed watching and meeting everyone! You guys really made me feel welcome as a spectator and I know NecroBlade enjoyed meeting and playing with everyone. Everyone was so nice and I felt like it was truly a community. Thanks to everyone that put it together and pulled it off--I KNOW how much hard work it takes and everything went swimmingly! Congrats to you all for that!

Next year I will be there!

Big thanks to Lonewolf et al for letting me hang out in the room and get owned in Citadels. I should've just made Chris write this for me.

I can't thank R˙chean enough for this year and the years past, and a thank you to MM for taking over next year.

How do you say thanks for the best 4 days of the year, or 5 really.

George - Thanks for being so fun to Hang out with, had so much fun battling you and Bs'ing. I owe you lunch next year, thanks so much that was the best meal I had there this year by a long shot, who am I kidding that was the best meal I had a any GC. Sorry I missed Sat. morning, but it was probably better I didn't spend the $. That game rocked I tell you, can not wait to battle against you again next year, but since you won last year, next year I should get the short end of the stick, he he. It was the board I tell you, was so in my favor.

Vincent - for being the nicest guy there as far as I can tell hope you enjoy the award.

Gulp - thanks for getting me into that Ascension tourney, had a blast doing that, and beating you was just icing on the cake I tell, lol. I will glue the phone to my forhead next year cause not being able to hook up a couple of times sucked. We need to roam the center at night more next year.

superfly - thanks for being you, and thank Mick for me twice - you made it better GC I tell you, make sure they get you the real deal on the room next year, suite - you know with 2 rooms, lol.

Screaming T & the Plaid Hat Booth -thanks for a great game and the demo's, I decided after getting the promo Cards I had to buy the big box set - just seems like such a good deal to pass up.

All My room Mates - I had a blast getting to know you guys better, thanks again for letting me take up the best corner of the rooms ( the desk to store all my crap is the key to all my victories ( chaos Rules ). Neo -thanks for lugging that machine up to the room mainly, even if I only played it twice. To Tommy's parents for the tasty crackers. To everyone cause I heard no snoring the whole time.

To Ry - what can I say, I feel like Goofer on the love boat helping you out, seeing how you put in 18 hour days for these things blows me away ( the guy is up at till 3 or later - 2 am packing up the prizes for the net day is standard stuff around there, and then up at 7 planning and moving stuff around for this - those are some very big shoes that need filled ). I can still get a chuckle thinking of the elevator ride. thanks for letting me be part of the chaos and fun, and just God Bless you for all you do for the Scape community. Thanks most for the fun banter while gaming, nothing better then sitting across the battlefield from you at GC I say.

Staff - thank you all, you guys make this thing happen under the Man named above, a lot of work goes into this. The set up crew, the computer people, the staffers, just a big thanks to all who helped out.

The Clean Up Crew - It was wonderful to see everyone just jump in and start to tear it all down, with so much extra help it went very fast. I felt like we may be Amish.

Sterling - had a blast having the stingers take me down, man all those stingers suck I tell you, lol. Also thanks for being the best stacker ever!

Andrew - better luck next year, use your Drain more - if their worth 60 points its because of their special power - so if you don't use it your not getting your full 60 pts out of them, BIG SMILE. That was still a great game I enjoyed so much.

Columbus Crew - just always such a pleasure to see you guys and BS a bit, so glad you guys make it every year, hopefully I will see you at Origins also next year if all goes well.

Retlaw - Walter you rock, thanks for all you do making this happen, glad we have such a rock living close to the convention center.

Cleon - sorry I didn't get to talk and hang with you a bit more this year, but I had fun every time we did get to talk.

Neo - thanks for being the most organized scaper guy I know, your stacking system rocks, your figures saved the day for me, no way I could have gone 5-0 with out Marcu. We need to battle next year. I had a blast getting to spend more time hanging out with you. Your a very smart man is what I get out of our conversations, I enjoy how you look at games and gaming and look forward to gaming with you more, thanks for teaching me Glenmore

Jim - WOW, I can not say enough what an awesome guy you are, thanks for the HS stuff again and again and again, just blows me away, I just found the DVD - thanks for that ( I think, not sure what it is yet, lol ). I had a blast finally getting a game in with you, and your boss as a bonus, it was fun seeing how he thought about games when he was playing a new one ( hey he let us all know what he was thinking - fun guy to game with ) - but mainly thanks for letting me win that game, he he.

Thanks to everyone I gamed against - I had a blast as always and it is the community that makes this thing so special. I am a talker so sorry if I talked to much or bothered any of my opponents.

Curtis & Bloody B - You 2 rock, so glad your in the MR, just makes the place more homey I tell you, had a blast getting to know you better. I did buy Summoner Wars the big box since I got the promos - just made sense, so look for a new kid on the block next year in the SW divisions, and in the room.

SW & Sarah - Thank you does not cover it, GC would not be what it is with out you - Congrats on your upcoming wedding I am praying for a life time of happiness and gaming! I look forward to our gaming and hanging out with you guys till they cancel GC. I was not kidding we are so dressing up next year?

that is the main stuff I can remember and I am sure I forgot a lot, but thank you and man a year is way to long to wait for another one of these!

GrungeB - as always your just an interesting guy to talk to, sorry we didn't get to talk more.

CVS guy - thanks for sharing your passion with us, it was very cool seeing them in person and holding the cards, thanks for sharing.

David - thanks for being the guy who forgot his stuff after every battle, so nice to finally not be that guy, lol, great meeting you and battling against you, I still feel so stupid for killing instead of collecting, will remember for next year.

Wookie - I owe you for that tea, a live saver I tell you, was down low and so needed that, thanks for being what makes our community so great, hope we can battle next year and always look forward to talking between matches.

I want to second that thanks from Hendal to ZB. It was nice to see the C3V again. They stuck in my brain a little better this time even though I was working on about two hours sleep. Another major thanks goes to GromBloodboy for retrieving my Jotun, a million thanks. I also need to thank whoever turned in my Zombie I left behind. I need to keep better track of my gear. :)

Thanks to all who worked hard, especially Rychean. I was wondering what my first GenCon would be like and it turned out to be an absolute blast because of a great group of Heroscapers.

Spidy Sox, Pete Parker H, and Deroche, it was fun getting to know all you guys. Maybe not next year, but I'd really like to get down there again.

Thank yous:

I thank Dragonmaster384 for starting a thank you thread.

I thank wotc for giving us a chance to secure product that was earmarked for destruction.

I thank my Toyota 4Runner for being up to the task of getting me there and back again.

Thank you to Grungebob for lending me his sturdy red cart of wonderment. I also have to give a shout out to my little dolly and storage chests with wheels on them. They saved my backside over and over again.

Thanks to Retlaw for all he does. Set up, tear down, storage and just constantly being around even when not scheduled to GM. He does so much for us to make this thing work. We are all grateful for his commitment to our cause.

Big thanks to chaoschild for being chaoschild. He is such a calming influence on me when I start to spiral out of control or get scatter brained….which is most of the time. There should be a book made called The Way of ChaosChild.

Thanks to Damja and Lilnewbie for covering the first day of events with me. I was behind on a great many things but I knew the experience and skills they brought to the table would pull me through.

Thanks to Hendal…..my brother from another mother. While he didn’t pull any GM shifts he was on cart duty every day and was constantly at my beckon call for anything that was needed. Plus like a pirate, there was Rum and Gold….there is a song in there somewhere.

Thanks to cbs42, cornpuff, and superflytnt for taking the Battleship bull by the horns and wrestling it down to the ground. You guys really bailed me out of a jam. Thanks to all of the demo volunteers for making the best of a chaotic situation.

Also, thanks to superfly for bringing his custom SW Epic Duels terrain; it was slick.

Thanks to CVN for stopping by the events on Thursday to check us out. He even helped setting up the demos for Battleship.

Thanks to gamjuven for being a honorable and prophetic man. I accidently gave out Battleship stuff for Summoner Wars event. He graciously gave it back and then proceeded to win it back in the Battleship event, receiving a thank you lava along the way.

Thanks to all the people I played for putting up with the interruption and frequent mad bolts from the table. Thanks to necroblade for the most entertaining game I played at the Con.

Thanks to all the participants for showing up and choosing GenCon and Heroscapers events as a place to spend your time and hard earned money. Thank you as well for your patience and flexibility as no day or event was error free.

Massive thanks to BloodyBaroness for taking the lead on tear down leaving me to focus on GM table, prizes, and events that were finishing up.

Thanks to all of the GMS for dealing with a strained situation. I had us spread too thin for what we were doing but all of you rose to the challenge. Also, thanks to the new GMs, worldsenemy & ZBeeblebrox, and fill in GM, Mrs Stubobj for being diligent and thorough.

Thanks to people who brought me food and drink during the events: NWOJedi, chaoschild, MM/lonewolf

Thank to nwojedi for taking the lead on lodging and popping in to help us out from time to time.

Thanks to Hahnarama for receiving and bringing the Battleship copies for our events as well as for taking me on the whirl wind trek through the exhibitor hall.

Thanks to all of you that helped with set up and tear down; each went very well. Thank you for all the extra hands to truck stuff to Retlaw’s van. Thank you for taking the Orms that I put out so I didn’t have to transport it back.

Thank you for your patience with me regarding name and faces and site names. I got a couple more straight this year.

Thanks to InfinityMax for assisting me with T shirt files.

Thank you to truth for the support needed to run the SW events...and also for giving me something to fill the space in my SUV for the trip back to Texas.

Thanks to DrLivingston for loaning me his Summoner Wars boards.

Thanks to fezzikthedoor for his assitance with transport and car packing...as well as automobile diganoses.

Thanks to jim for being awesome all the time, everywhere.

Thanks to Ninthdoc for splitting a lay over room and for donating 2 un-used Battlship G shirts from 2010 for prize support.

Thanks to all the dice painters: lilnewbie, jim, BloodyBaroness, nwojedi, chaoschild. Thanks to josh-n-papa for continuing to cut dice for us even though here never comes to ‘scapers anymore.

Thanks to the many people who had concern over my eye and the horrific way it looked throughout the Con. I appreciate the concern.

I could go on thanking people for pages on end. Thank you all for making the time and effort that we put into these events worth it.

Apologies:

I do apologize that you could not purchase the shirts. After much deliberation I decided that t shirts sales was not a business I wanted to be a part of, so the shirts were strictly used for GMs and prizes.

I apologize that MM could not get the size shirt he wanted because it was the last one I had.

I apologize for any distraction that my third eye may have caused.

I apologize for being short with some of you. There are things I can control and things I cannot. I had to say “no” many times to many things but that is because I have enough problems and challenges without taking on other people’s. I hate saying no.

My apologies to nicktheant for repeatedly forgetting a Castle set…..my PM box is now empty, please engage me regarding.

I apologize for not mapping out Dragon’s Hoard more completely there were a few treasure glyph locations that were not accessible to Dragons

I apologize for not having a better handle on the maps. I used to do an AM audit of every map but have not had much time for that the last two years. Many of the maps were incorrect at certain times due to whatever reasons… Also, my apologies that the magnet trick failed after Thursday for Guardian.

My apologies to SWNinja for committing to something but failing to follow through. I will make this up to you.

Sorry for the brain farts. Remembering the dropping Treasure rules wrong, handing out Battleship for SW, general loopiness, etc… caused by stress and lack of sleep.

My apologies for my sometimes foul language. We have a kid friendly community here and at GenCon and cussing has no place in either, my sincere apologies for the slip of my tongue.

Thank you to all the participants, opponents, and 'scapers who ran the events and in general who I might not have gotten to meet or play against but was glad to see. Thanks to ManTrainChooChoo for my closest game (wish I could have won!), dok for being a friendly guy, and Jexik for an enjoyable chat.

But most especially the biggest THANK YOU to Rychean for running everything as smoothly as possible. Sure there were hiccups, but we wouldn't be there at all without you! And of course for that awesome game that refused to end (though you should have beaten me over and over before you finally did). I owe you one!

First - thanks again to Rychean for organizing and running the events this year.

Second - another thanks to Rychean for the special callout/recognition on Sunday. My kids think the skull trophy is cool.

Third - to all the set-up, GMs, and tear-down crew (I won't even attempt to name people because I'm sure to miss some), thanks for making everything look so good and run so smooth.

Fourth - thanks to everyone I played against. I enjoyed all the games (even the ones I lost badly). And I finally got a game in against Rychean :) (only took 4 years).

And lastly - to everyone not covered above. I had a great time just shooting the bull with people.

See you all next year (well some the locals I'll see before then :))

Props:

I have to say a big thank you to Rychean and other volunteers for organizing these events at gencon.

Congrats to all the opponents who kicked my butt at gencon, esp. spiderpoison, who I am getting closer to beating, but still can't quite get there.

The columbus crew + the indy friends for playing games all night.

Slops:

Myself, for having such a terrible showing in the tournaments I was in.

The columbus crew + indy people for keeping me up all night. I'm getting to old or something; I was completely dead by sunday.

Weesel99 for leaving a day early, WTH?
