View Full Version : Hahma's Castle on the River

I got two more castles yesterday (now I have three of them) and spent a while lastnight modifying my old castle map that I had set up. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play on it with my bro in-law and nephew.
I would plan on having two armies attacking, one on either side of the river. The defender would only be able to have a third of his army on the front wall, a third at the very rear part of the castle and the final third off the board for the first round and joining from behind the castle at the beginning of the second round. I want to try this to allow the two invaders a chance to get through the doors or over the walls and allow a the battle to actually take place behind the front walls. The map is so long that it would be a waste to make it all happen at the front wall. IMO
We'll see what happens.

Sounds and looks cool. I think that castles are well suited to custom rules like this to add some variety so I like your ideas on drawing the battle inside.

I think making scenarios is a must for castles, otherwise the standard assault would get stale. I even considered makining a scenario whereas the two front doors were to be opened already by a spy/traitor within the castle, that way the battle would definitely be taken behind the walls much sooner.
Also, for my original scenario, I might place the three flags at varios points within the castle and have the victory conditions for the attacker be that the first attacking team to have a figure adjacent to two flags simultaneously wins. The defender wins by preventing this of course. The fun with this lies with the assaulting teams turning on each other and making the battle inside the castle a free for all.

I really like that setup. I just got 3 castles too, maybe I will steal some of that configuration. I have been looking for some good castle set ups. Nice one Hahma.

Thanks Tiberius.
I used 5 MS on the rest of it, more or less.

Hahma, that looks sharp!
As soon as I can get a game on my current map, I'll probably set something similar to that.

Nice layout. I just built a map with the wife last night and went with a larger version of my metamap but will be doing a castle next and just may steal from your setup as well.

Thanks Joah,
I started at around 10:30 lastnight and when I finished I looked at the clock and it was 1:30am.
The bad thing about building maps that late is that I think about scenarios and army points etc. in my sleep. I woke up at 5:20 and couldn't get back to sleep. I also just got the flagbearers yesterday in addition to my 2nd and 3rd castle, so I kept thinking about them in my sleep too.
"shakes fist" Curse you Heroscape!

Thanks Geddy,
Look forward to the pix!
It's cool that your wife plays, your daughter won't have much choice, she's going to be a Heroscaper before long :D
Oh, by the way. The bass player from Audioslave is pretty awesome too.

I'm still waiting to hear from my brother in-law to see if he gets a chance to play later today. We'll see.
At least in the mean time I can watch the Bears spank the 49ers and do a little work on the laptop.

Frick, Hahma! Looks like an amazing layout. Love the river running through it.
I could definitely see implementing a boat or 'carried with the current' house rule for this map.
Perhaps swift current: when entering a water space, small and medium figures are immediately moved x amount of spaces in one direction. Or something to that affect.
I just wouldn't know what one would do once they reach the end of the water/edge of the table. LOL
Can't wait to see battle pics/ battle report.

Thanks poopdood! Got the table at Service Merchandise many years ago. It's just a folding table we use to extend our dining room table for holiday meals and such. It's six feet long and an couple feet wide.

Why thank you HEH.
I like the idea of the current, I guess it could be neat to make it so that if you are swept off the table you die. Perhaps upon moving into the water space, one would roll a 6d to see how many spaces they would move with the current. Could make things interesting.
My nephew and brother in-law and I started playing it a few nights ago and hopefully can get together again tonight to finish up. We started later than I had wanted to the first time and I surprised them with the set up to begin with, then I busted out the flagbearers (which they didn't know were out yet). So it took a while for them to check out their abilities and such.
We rolled to see who would defend and which two would attack. Then we rolled again to determine who got to pick their Flagbearer and that army to draft from.
I can say that I have gotten a little rusty and it showed.
More later.
