For all those who are fans of Mike Mignola's Hellboy or even the Hellboy movie, the first animated Hellboy movie will be on Cartoon Network tonight at 9:30. The majority of the actors from the movie, including Ron Perlman and Selma Blair, will be providing the voices.

Never seen (or read) anything Hellboy, but I intend to watch it tonight. Looks good.

Excellent! I would never have seen it in the listings. Thanks for the heads up!

I find it strange that in the cartoon the voice of Abe Sapien will be played by Doug Jones who did in fact play Abe Sapien in the movie, however it was David Hyde Pierce (of Frasier fame), who supplied the voice! Perhaps it will be David Hyde Pierce doing the vocal work uncredited again ...

On a side note, I believe Doug Jones is playing the Silver Surfer in the next Fantastic Four movie.

Although I was never really a fan of Mike Mignola's art, they do pay a decent tribute to him. The colors look amazing.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit. I highly recommend it for those who don't live on the east coast (since there's only a half hour left for those who do).

This is very good.
I really hope we'll see more of this version.

Not really for young kids. There's quite a bit of violence (obviously) and some language. It's quite a bit of fun.

There was language in Hellboy Aw, crap. Which language was it? Hopefully it was English, I can spealk English ...

It was a fun little romp, however they did the one thing I hate: Split the Heroes and have a co-story with the non-main characters just to include them not to actually further the story. Don't get me wrong, I was glad they included Liz and Abe, but why? They did absolutely nothing to further the story. As Liz said "We could just stay here in the cave and wait for Hellboy to finish, then all we have to do is wait for rescue." and that's exactly what they could have done ... At the very least, they should have been with the professor protecting her and making rude remarks about the useless p.sychic.

I think Marvel could learn a little lesson from the Hellboy cartoon. I enjoyed this much more than either of the Ultimate Avengers movies. Then again both Mike Mignola and Guillermo Del'Torro were involved in the Hellboy cartoon.

I liked it.
I felt they did this to build up to another "Movie".

And yes, it was MILES above the Marvel "efforts".
I'm back to my, "Shame on you Marvel." stance.
When this gets release on DVD, I'll purchase it to send the signal.
Make more.

I watched it last night and really liked it. I agree on the Liz and Abe thing, they threw that in as a time filler obviously, but I did enjoy the story and the action.

I watched about half of it before I fell asleep. As my first exposure to Hellboy, it wasn't half bad, but I hope any future plots will abstain from p.sychics. OTOH I should congratulate them for presenting the guy so realistically, he was just as annoying as he would have been IRL. ;) My favorite part was when the fire lass started going on a self-indulgent 'I'm a monster because I can't control my powers' emo rant and the two REAL monsters looked at her and laughed it all away.
Fortunately, I woke back up in time to see fun corpse explosion AKSHUN in Eureka 7. 8)
I wish someone could fix this p.sy thing, it's getting annoying. o.O

I loved the Kappa part. Once he dried up with the "Jerk." comment had me cracking up.

And the creepy "funny story." Gouged out human eyes!

I thought it was a fun ride and saw the movie before hand so had an idea on Hellboy's normal attitude. Enjoyed it.

It was pretty good and it was topped off in the end with two episodes of Robot Chicken. :D

Anyone know when this is coming on again? They are already working on a second one I know, plus Hellboy 2 in live action.

Oh, and Doug Jones is the voice of Abe. The IMDB has David Hyde Pierce as the uncredited voice for the Hellboy movie, even though this is not true and should be removed. Doug Jones can do a voice that sounds A LOT like David Hyde Pierce, and it's a common mistake to think that Niles Crane was somehow overlooked in the credits.

If what you are saying is true then Doug Jones did a very, very good David Hyde Pierce impersonation for Hellboy, but for the cartoon where only the actor's voice matters it wasn't even close. It sounded more like Frasier's father Martin attempting to impersonate Niles after a few too many beers ... I mean absolutely no disrespect to Mr. Jones talent in any way, this was simply a comment on jcb231's completely unsubstantiated, highly suspect, and from all indications completely false, no matter how emphatic the tone, statement that David Hyde Pierce did not voice Abe Sapien in the original Hellboy movie.

As it stands, you would have to reference your information with facts as to where you received the info that David Hyde Pierce did not voice Abe Sapien and remained uncredited in deference to Doug Jones physical portrayal. If IMDb is incorrect, so is Wikipedia, answers.com, tvguide.com, hollywood.com, tvguide.com, movies.yahoo.com, hellboyanimated.typepad.com (official website of the Hellboy animated series), etc. all list David Hyde Pierce as portraying the voice of Abe Sapien in the original Hellboy movie, but doing so uncredited. And, as a final entry into the David Hyde Pierce did indeed, without a doubt voice Abe Sapien in the original Hellboy movie ... from the Doug Jones website (http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/starlog~interview.htm):

... if there’s one regret that Jones may have about the Hellboy experience, it’s that his character was re-dubbed during post-production. “I went in and recorded an ADR looping session,” he explains, “and Guillermo seemed to love everything I did. I thought everything was perfect for the character. I originally took the job with the understanding that they might re-voice Abe Sapien with a celebrity, and that was looming over my head the entire time. I would be a bad actor if I told you that I didn’t want to do Abe’s voice myself, and I felt very good about my performance both vocally and physically. When I was done, I knew that if they re-voiced it, it wouldn’t be because I was a bad actor.

“As it turns out, they did a voice session with David Hyde Pierce, but Guillermo told me that it wasn’t a competition between the two of us or a case of one being better than the other. It was just different, and he said the differences weren’t even that tangible. It was just something a little extra. David is a brilliant actor, and he has a very distinctive sound that falls on the ear with some familiarity. Truth be told, he has a marketable name to put with a big role in a big movie, so it’s a marketing thing for the studio as well. I understand why they did what they did. Nonetheless, I would have preferred to have kept my own voice.”

So, jcb231, please tell me; where did you get your information from?
