GenCon 2011 - Herscape: Tournament of Champions sign up

OK just setting up a sign up thread for the Tournament of Champions held Sunday morning at Gen Con this year. Because the event requires each player to have won a Heroscape event at a previous or current GenCon, a sign up list is required.

The event is limited to 24 players and is only open to players who have won an Heroscape event at GenCon that was at least 4 rounds. (win-a-wave and original Slugfest 2007 as well as Classic Draft 2008 are all 3 round events; winning these events does not qualify a player for the TOC) Players who win an event of at least 4 rounds at GenCon this year will also be eligible provided there are still slots open.

Here are the details:

Sunday Aug 7th 10am – Heroscape - Tournament of Champions
Event open only to players who have won a med to lrge Heroscape event at GenCon, from 2006 to current. 24 positions. You must sign up through Heroscapers. Champions bring a pre-drafted 500 point Heroscape army, no Marvel. Army size is limited to 24 hexes. Each round is different: Rnd 1 = CaptureFlag; Rnd 2 = TreasureQuest; Rnd 3 = HoB; Rnd 4 = ReverseWhip. 4 round swiss; 1 game Final will be straight play. Prizes will be awarded.If you want to participate in this event, please post here stating which event you won and when. I will review and double check then update the list with the player's name. You will pay with generic tickets at the time of the event.






I do not anticipate the list filling up prior to GenCon but it is first come, first serve. So if you want to play in it, sign up now.

OK....after visiting with lonewolf recently, it appears that everyone's first thought for this is Heavies. They were also my first thought. They are the most versatile which is important because of there being a different variant for each round.

I bring it up because we have time to change it. Unlike the other events that are ticketed; changing those after someone has already bought a ticket would be poor form.

So.....was I too ambitious with all these different variants in one event? Should we dumb this one down a bit so Heavie's aren't the most optimal play? Should I change the name of the event to Tournament of the Gruts?

But once you realize everyone else is thinking heavies, you just decide to bring 10th.

I think he means he will have won an event with every unit. I have not confirmed going to Gencon, but if I do, my imputus will be to win an event ASAP just to enter this. I like 10th * 4, Raelin, and a 100-120 point hero and filler, maybe siege or iron golum and marcu.

If we have the full 24 players start the tournament, then at the beginning of the fourth round, there will be 3 3-0 players and 9 2-1 players. Two of the three 3-0 players will match up, so there's going to be one 4-0 player emerging from that game. The other 3-0 player will be playing a 2-1 player. If the 3-0 player wins we have two 4-0 players, who play in the finals. If the 2-1 player wins, then it will come down to strength of schedule between the 6 3-1 players to decide who faces the 4-0 player in the finals.

Reverse is tough, but I think treasure quest is pretty doable. Rae could fly and grab a treasure, and then you just set your mom (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showpost.php?p=1401490&postcount=21) on the others. No one's moving her.

You can have them sign up conditionally. Based on if someone that hasn't won, wins a Tournament ask them immediately if they want to participate and that may eliminate one of the 2nd, 3rd or 4th place finisher. Chances are with that many openings they may get to play anyways. Just a thought
