Just read an article where 20th Century FOX and Universal backed out of the upcoming Halo movie, after fear of Microsoft's supposed cut of $5 Million up front and 10% of the profits as well as the filmmaker's share. Peter Jackson is still involved trying to find new financing.

I think a Halo movie'd be a little redundant anyway; the games tell everything interesting about the story already, don't they?
But anyway, you can't let yourself get frazzled over every cool movie idea that gets aborted. For every movie we see in theatres, thousands of other movie fetuses lie stillborn and decaying in their cinematic graves. S'just how the industry works.

Given the amount of units Halos 1 & 2 sold and the fact that Peter Jackson is involved, I think an eventual movie is still a no-brainer.
Money is good.

I think I'd much rather have him working on Transformers.
I have too many of my own visual memories involved in that book. Not that I don't like how he portrays word to screen, it's just that I like the way I see it in my head.

Even if Fox and Universal back out I fully expect a Halo movie will still be made. Halo alone is popular enough to almost guarantee a film company will pick it up eventually. With Peter Jackson behind it the project is even more likely to happen.

Well Bungie is notorious for its in-depth stories and detail. Several novels which tie directly to Halo have been written and for every plot Bungie reveals several more potential plots are usually opened, even if you cannot see them. They could also make a prequel. Even if they did run out of ideas a movie version of the first game would not be so bad: Halo at least has a decent storyline unlike some video game adaptations...

And for every movie lying dead in its cinematic grave, we get another rebirth of an older movie. Darned re-makes! Hollywood needs some new blood.

Hollywood needs some new blood.
Yeah, and it'll be flowing from those movie execs that dropped Halo if I had my way
(Note: do not put me on any terrorist list. That statement was a joke.)

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Microsoft have officially put a potential Halo movie on the backburner.

"on the backburner"... now is that good or bad?

It means that it's not a priority for them right now. If a studio comes in with the financial backing that they need to go forward with it, then it will probably be back on again. So right now I guess its a race between Halo and the Hobbit for Peter Jackson's time.

I just read that Halo the Movie is back up. Here is the story: http://movies.ign.com/articles/742/742264p1.html
P.S. Why do you hate Halo? Sure I am a Nintendo fanboy, but that is one fun game. I haven't even played online yet and I still like the game. Even though I want to hate it I can't.

Sure, it's pretty fun. I liked it, a while ago. But it is consiered "teh best FPS ever!!!", which it's not. It's a generic First Person shooter, and is, in my opinion, crap compared to others (the Timesplitters series, for example).
That soured me on it. And I'm not even a Fanboy! I own an XBOX, but just don't like the game.
Hype killed it, in my eyes.

I can not understand that kind of mindset. Not liking a game because it is wildly popular seems like nonsense to me. I have a friend who is the exact same way with the Zelda series. I can't talk about video games around him because of his hate of the overdogs.

You can't understand getting annoyed by a vast majority of people holding an opinion directly counter to your own? Seems like a fairly intuitive human trait to me. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean you should complain about it all the time, either....

Everyone is entitled to his opinion.
I, for one, never saw what was so great about Timesplitters. It was just 'meh' to me.
The major draw for me in Halo is the convincing and cinematic story. The designers were painting a picture with the universe as their canvas. With Halo 3 coming out, they'll finally finish that painting ;)

Really? As you said, opinions, but I found the story... generic. The whole series seems like an average, run-of-the-mill, sci-fi game.
Sure, I'd play every once in a while, and I have nothing against the game, but the fact that this, a generic game, is wildly poular and selling systems by the hundreds is confusing and upsetting.

I don't like it because it is a FPS, and i hate FPS's. It has no storyline. I have asked all my friends what the storyline is, and they all say either "I don't know" or "Aliens are taking over the world."
Arent the majority of FPS's about aliens? It just seems a bit trite to me.
