Valguard Tourney Army

Here is a challenge for my fellow scapers: Create a 400pt tournament caliber army that contains Valguard.


I really love Valguard and have been trying to find a suitable army for him to reside in. I was thinking along the lines of a Valguard-Gladiatron combo.

Has anybody else came up with a good Valguard army? I would love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Lots of melee power, lots of synergy. Little weak in the ranged department, but flexible.

Yeah, I think I watched too many games. They are all bleeding together so, I remember very little of the games that I played. First up was the Valkyrie General tournament. I was the only one to play Einar so, I got the prize for winningest Einar player. However, I did win 3 games with a by to come in second after Nwojedi.

That's not a bad combo, though I can see it failing more often than doing what a player would like.

I will say this, depending on how you play the Warlord bonding is a FUN thing to use with this guy, :D

Well, the most obvious one would be:

Valguard - 110
Parmenio - 90
Sacred Band x2 - 100
Roman Legionnaires x2 - 100
400

OR to go a different way you can drop some of the synergy for range and better versatility...

Valguard - 110
Raelin - 80
Roman Legionnaires x2 - 100
Roman Archers x2 - 110
400

The Roman Archers can really be replaced with 100-110 points of whatever ranged units you like best (AE, Krav, MBS+Marros, etc.) but I just used the Archers because they fit the army nicely both in theme, and provide a pretty good strategy option (Kravs also work well with this strategy). Depending on the opposing force and terrain:
1)Keep Raelin close behind your Archers (or Krav) and weaken advancing units, then kill them with Valguard + Legos.
OR
2)Take down their biggest threat with Val-lego (hehehe) and then mop up the remainder with a sweep of Archers/Krav backed by Raelin.

The real choice here is whether to go with awesome defense for your range using the Krav's Stealth Dodge and Raelin's +2 (I always cringe when facing that) OR go with the Archers superior numbers and higher offense (using Arrow Volley) to take down even the big guys while they last.

You have some nice bonding possiblities with this army. Every Hero on the army bonds with something. You have some ranged suppourt with the Orcs and MBS, and the lego's can lock up units so Valguard can SMASH!
