You may see new Varks, you may not, but let's just say when they do land in the public eye, they're going to make quite a pack.

I must say, I'm getting pretty excited about this wave. It seems we've waited forever... Bummer though, it doesn't look like the "wolfen" (or should I say Varkaanans)will be released in this one.
What?! No Varks?
They are going to use pretty much the entire faction. I am sure that they are taking their time to make sure that everything is in harmony before sending them out for public playtesting.
These guys are going to take very careful work and testing. I can't wait to share them with you. Who knows how soon they'll come. Keep helping with Public Playtesting, everyone, and it will be sooner.
(Wave 15 and 16 are completely drafted. How soon they each come is up to you all.)

By the way... just remembered that "Vark" is the Dutch/Afrikaans word for "pig". Better not tell the Wolfen. :p

C3V Bonus: Long awaited Bios for Van Nessing and the Marro Gnids.
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/files/1/1/1/8/van_nessing_a.jpg
VAN NESSING'S BIO:
The full details of Van Nessing's past are a mystery even to him. The records of the Royal Library state that he was found on the edge of the Elven Sacred Copse, half-dead, already into middle age, and lacking any memory of his past life. Regardless of what his past concealed, Queen Elana Starling enrolled him in the ranks of the Kresnik, an elite group dedicated to hunting the forces of darkness that roam Feylund. Over the course of many years, Van Nessing became a master of techniques that made him more than a match for any common foe encountered in Feylund's creeping night.
An expert in many forms of weaponry as well as unarmed combat, he was driven to constant training. Above and beyond his extensive knowledgeable of undead lore, Van Nessing is armed with an eclectic mix of items and weapons designed to take maximum advantage of the traditional weaknesses of the forces of darkness, including silver bolts and relics blessed by the Elven Queen herself.
Despite Van Nessing's unrivaled hunting prowess, he quickly grew weary of defending the forests and hunting the walking dead that plagued Morindan. He also found it hard to keep his opponents alive in accordance with Kresnik dictates, which state that all followers must make it their mission to discover the cure for the conditions that beset their former brethren. But Van Nessing found it hard to see past the perversion of reanimated corpses and lycanthropic curses.
During one of his hunts, selfish arrogance caused him to abandon his companions to chase after Ophois the Darklord, and he was overwhelmed and infected by the werewolf lord in the process. Aquilla saw him in the midst of this transformation, and saved him to assist her in fighting the undead in Kinsland. The Archkyrie's hatred of all things unnatural parallels Van Nessing's determination to rid the earth of the foul creatures. Doing all he can to find a cure for his own curse, he serves valiantly, promising never again to forget his Kresnik duty.

MARRO GNIDS BIO:
I moved slowly through the jungle, my scales contracting to push the moist air away from my already overheated body. The Skinless Ones had once occupied this area, but I saw no signs of them now. As I came around a massive jungle tree, I grew apprehensive: entering the Jungle of the Ancient King was prohibited. But the Warlord had commanded us to push through, sweeping for Marro, and rendezvous with the main force for our strike at the Marro Hive.
A dark shadow flitted just beyond my view. I jerked, twisting towards the movement, but nothing was visible. I glided forward, continuing to scout. The movement must have been my imagination, or perhaps a small jungle dwelling animal. It couldn't be the Skinless Ones; only the Nagrubs were that small, but they stank of Marro filth, plus they were never far from the massive Hivelords.
A bush to my left rustled with another scurrying movement. This animal was following me.
Suddenly a small animal appeared, scuttling down a tree, its two large front claws digging into the trunk. What could it be? I'd seen many animals as a scout, but I didn't recognize the shape or size of this creature. Wait, its skinless body was pinkish, like a Marro. Could it be? Flicking my tongue, I picked up a faint strain of the putrid Marro scent.
Something launched itself at me from behind and latched onto my skin, digging in with razor-like claws. More of these strange creatures pounced on me and held on with their talons, trying more to gain purchase than to mortally wound. I tried to shake them off, but their claws only sunk deeper into my scales. I felt my body weakening, my blood leaking into the jungle waters.
I twisted to slither away. I had to warn the Warlord. But more of these strange Marro parasites kept latching on to me. My movement slowed until I could move no more; the pain made it impossible to concentrate. As the creatures began to greedily slurp up my freely flowing blood, I knew I'd never deliver my final report.
Stay tuned to this thread for confirmed units from Wave 15 in coming weeks. All units have been designed, now they need to be properly and carefully balanced. That's where your playtesting comes in.
So help speed up the arrival of the Age of Chaos, and sign (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=33397) up.
Thanks for the continued support,

Wow
This announcement has been up for almost 24 hours and all you got to say is "more, more." :p
Where is the deluge of speculative posts? The guesses of what the "Booster" description means? Man if House Mouse or Auggies released some Booster info, there would be tons of discussion on the units.
And back in the day, a blurry shelf pic behind CVN would have produced months of speculation and guesses. I go ahead provide what units are are in the first Booster and provide a brief description of them and only two posts are produced.
:poorpost:
What happened to that heroscape feeling, the giddiness of new things on the horizon?
Maybe you missed the meat of the Broadcast:

Sowwy, I'm so new to the C3V.... I don't know how these things work....
Perhaps most who follow the C3V are actually already on board behind the scenes and thus already know the units, leaving only a couple of dorks, such as myself and Son of Arathorn, eagerly yet ignorantly waiting for what comes? Dunno. :D
I must confess, though, the teaser announcement DID have my mind racing furiously. I had assumed that the skeleton common squad made using the Confrontation Ram guys would synergize with the big Skulls uncommon heroes. But if the latter follow Valkrill, and the former are actually summoned by the Esenweins and loyal to them (or at least, in their thrall), then perhaps they're NOT part of a single faction? The mind boggles.

Okay, speculation: I imagine that skeletons can pop up again wherever they were destroyed, It seems pretty reasonable, and being a skull "demon" it is likely of the "demon" species like the mezzo"demon"s and will help the mezzodemons out somehow.these are only my guesses.
Son of Arathorn
March 16th, 2012, 09:26 PM
Okay, okay, speculation time:
Army of Darkness
Skeletons of Annellintia- Obviously, they are Cyprien's skeletal army. I'm gonna hazard a guess at an Army Card with 2 powers, one of which being bonding or some movement bonding with Cyprien and/or Undead Lords (could also be Esenwein exclusive bonding), and the second being a power which allows them to rise from the dead, probably at the beginning of the round. I expect them to be a bread & butter type, 70-80 point squad. This makes their sweet spot about 4 squads.
Skull Demon- If any synergy, it'll be with demon squads (Mezzos), or Undead squads. I'd guess some sort of defense-reducing power against either common or figures without a certain personality (say, mindless & fearless). Possibly a movement power, something that allows them to marshal the troops into formation. Sweet spot should be around 2, maybe 3.
Dwarf and Soulborgs
Dwarf- Absolutely no clue on this guy, though I predict point cost will either be cheap (no more than 50-60), or very expensive (150-170). Beyond that, I got nothing
Soulborgs- Much, much more here. I say that they shall follow either Valkrill, or Einar. Utgar is also a slight possibility, as their pic in the Miniature Info thread shows them with Moltenclaw, but it could just be a hint at the following speculation subject: fire. These guys scream fire. They will likely be slow, probably 4 move, maybe 5. Defense will be at least 5, possibly 6 if they are slow. That, or some survivability power due to armor. A flamethrower attack is a must, and if they follow Valkrill, some sort of damage to adjacent figures when they die. However, I'm calling it straight at Einar. Should be a pretty expensive squad, about 120.
Valkrill's Vengeance
Therians- Valkrill Soulborgs, they have to be. I estimate cost to be about 50-60, with some sort of self-destruct power. Other than that, this is very hard to predict. I'm calling the Therian sweet spot at 3.
Scorpions (I'm guessing)- It could be Valkrill, but it could also be Utgar. Vydar is a distinct possibility too, but I still think Valkrill's most likely, due to the cult-like nature of the Nah Scirh (I think that's how it's spelled). Something to give them the advantage against dragons, and possible bonding, but that's a bit of a stretch. They'll need some other power to make them viable against something other than dragons. Sweet spot at 2 very different numbers, either 2 or 5. Depends entirely on whether or not they will work against something other than dragons. Possibly an advantage against heroes.
Heroes of Paizum
Some, if not all the Pathfinder miniatures, and like DeathDoom said a few pages back, the Free League Ranger. I'd say the Ranger fights for Jandar, or Ullar, while the Pathfinder minis will fight for Vydar, Aquilla, and Jandar. Vague, I know, but it's all I can come up with.

I'll give it a shot.
Skeletons of Annellintia:"continually reanimated by twisted necromantic powers" that's very interesting, the question is whether the reanimation power will be on there card or someone else will have the power to reanimate them. I think it will be on there card because I don't see many candidates for a skeleton shaman or something of that sort in the C3V public miniatures thread. The next question is what will the reanimation power be. I think it is safe to assume that it will bring them back from the dead, my guess is that after the round you roll a 20 sided die for each Skeleton of Annellintia that died that round, if you roll a 14-18 or higher you may place that previously destroyed Skeleton back on the board. If they want to make them have synergies with the vampire, maybe add one to your die roll for reanimation for each Vampire that follows Utgar you control. I'm guess weak states across the board, there points 50-65.
Edit: after looking at the sculpt more closely I'm guessing a little stonger states and points between 60-70
Skull Demon: I would be shocked if he was not relentless for bonding with the death knights, he also could be wild for bonding with the Death Chasers, but am not as sure on that one. Because of his sculpt and his probable synergies/bonding with the death knights I'm suspecting some sort of power that negatively affects opponents states, to go along with soul weapons. Because they are uncommon I don't think they will have a special attack. "Valkrill has found his battlefield sergeants in the Skull Demons" That could allude to there bonding ability but I'm guessing he will also have a power that helps Valkrill squads within 4 or 6 spaces, what that is I'm not sure. Potential Points 80-100.
Can't wait to see there cards and the rest of the wave!

See the link in Z's post above, they're the heavy guys. Thats why I guess 70 point-ish bread and butter squad. Jandar has his knights, Einar his 10th Reg, Aquilla the Dwarves, and Utgar the Heavy Gruts. These guys (in my highly suspect opinion) will be akin to the aforementioned squads in how you have to play them and how many you need.

Wow - two month trial of mod before approving the sculpt?! You C3V guys are wayyyyy more professional than the majority of actual game releases. 'scape is good hands, fer shure.
Interesting that the Skull demon is surrounded by Death Knights (Valkrill) and Skeletons (presumably Utgar)... I guess broad ranging undead synergy makes sense, and would explain the photo, but they're specifically Valkrill's sergeants. Hmmmm. Am I missing some way to put both of those together?

How about an Aquilla predator, He would have 3 life and 3 distinct power corresponding to each head, when he takes a wound you would choose which power that he could no longer use. With only 3 life his states would have to be high, maybe 5 and 5 or 4-6.

Running with SoA's expansion predictions:
Army of Darkness:
The Skeletons of Annellintia (I want to know where that name came from) most likely WILL NOT have exact bonding with the Esenwein clan. Cyprien is already a terror on the field, and I can't see the design team giving him 5 attacks plus Chill damage every turn. It would be like making Glads bond with Q9. What is more likely is that they can respawn on Cyprien, or that Cyprien summons them Iskra-style. They might also be Thralls, giving the Preybloods some fun options. Consider the following, from their Book:
The wording choice on Mindless Pack surprised me. By using "Thrall" instead of "Preyblood Thrall", Preyblood Thralls could essentially bond with any hero figure with class Thrall (not that there are any others at this time). Or even stranger, a player could activate one to three "not-Preyblood" Thralls after revealing an order marker on a Preyblood Thrall.
I don't think any future squad could have a class Thrall now, because Heroscape does not have a concept of taking a turn with a single figure of a squad.
That wording was not an accident. :)
As for the Skull Demon: I'm thinking Tormented movement boosts. Its name really brings the question of whether we're looking at an Undead, a Demon, or one that boosts the other or both. And Relentless looks very likely.
Dwarf and Soulborgs:
I'm going to stick to my original prediction- Reaper Dwarf and Vulcanmechs. Oh, and Taeblewalker?
That Reaper Dwarf hero. Hmm...
We might just be able to wrangle getting him into the wave.
You're better than that :p Everybody test Ulfrid Hornwrangler!
Valkrill's Vengeance:
I'm sticking to the Therians, who were the Non-Utgar Marro discussed waaaaaay at the beginning of the project (Havech Eradicators. Boo. Yah. I found it.) As for the Nhah Scirh? I'm taking those out of my prediction. They don't seem to be in the PPT thread, unless they're the Eradicators... but the Scorpions were announced awfully late for that. I'm going to guess on the Cathar Spearmen as the other unit here, but I do think the Deathstrike Thrall will appear in this pack, too (a 3-figure and 4-figure squad plus a common hero wouldn't be implausible.)
Heroes of Paizum:
They're the Paizo heroes, I'm certain of it! And based on a few choice comments in the PPT thread (which I just read in its entirety), I'm guessing that Arashara Goshiri is the Mage from that set, and he boosts the Monks. Locksley was tested ages ago. He needs to be here. Myrddin and Elaria are likely choices, too. Elaria the Pale is the Paizo Elf Rogue. Myrddin feels like a masculine name and makes me think that is the Paizo Fighter. That figure could also be Martial la Hire, making the Cleric Myrddin, but Martial feels like a gunslinger to me. And we all want more cowboys. Of course, if it's:
Rogue- Elaria
Free League Ranger- Locksley
Mage- Arashara
Fighter- Martial
Cleric- Myrddin
we use up all five figures.
Now what the heck is that Heroclix figure for?!?!

To answer Deathdoom's question of the Skeletons and their name I'll refer to the source:
Cyprien's Biography:
Character Bio
Sometimes it is difficult to perceive the difference between good
and evil. This is not the case with Cyprien Esenwein. He is pure
evil.
On Feylund, his undead army of vampires, zombies and skeletons
controls most of Annellintia and all of Morindan. He favors his
Skeleton Cavalry for their speed and resilience. He fights with his
vampires, often indistinguishable from the rest of the army.
On Valhalla, Utgar has given much authority to Cyprien. His pure
evil nature and lust for power has impressed Utgar. Cyprien fights
alongside his army and leads by example, taking on the opposing
armies’ greatest champion. Often, the opposing champion is cold
and dead before he realizes what has happened. With each fallen
champion Cyprien grows stronger. Cyprien is feared by all; even
Drake has felt his chilling touch. To make matters worse, Cyprien
has begun drinking the waters of the wellsprings, and he has
received visions of his undead army. He believes eventually a
portal will open and his entire army will join him on Valhalla. The
combined attack of a huge Marro army and Cyprien’s army would
bring certain doom to any opposition.
Does that help? :)

It wasn't directed at you, it was directed towards Machinekng, sorry that I wasn't clear.
Ah, good then. I tend to get confused after midnight.

Running with SoA's expansion predictions:
Okay, this makes way more sense than what I said originally, and what I revised it too. Scorpions this early after their announcement don't make much sense (they were announced in early January. And a 3-man squad with a single common hero isn't plausible in a pack. Deathdoom hits the nail on the head here, because the Spearmen were announced way back in mid-October. I'm not certain that the Thrall would get thrown in here, but it could work. Change my prediction on Valkrill's Vengeance to work with DD's, I say it'll be Therians, (who could be Marro, not Soulborgs, which would make me change my prediction on the Incendiborgs to fight for Valkrill), Spearmen (who I expect to fight for Aquilla, since Cathars don't work well with Jandar's Christian/Catholic Knights), and whatever this new Thrall is (it has to be, look at the promotional picture, in front of Nicholas and a ton of other Thralls).

I though they were Soulborgs, due to their mechanical appearence, ut we'll see.
The Cathars also make sense, except for the name of the pack.I don't think they're going to Valkrill.
I had originly thought the Deathstrike Thrall was going to be in the Army of Darkness pack, but they aren'y, so I guess they need to be in this one.

Wave 15 - Age of Chaos
Age of Chaos Booster #2 – Dwarf And Soulborgs
Jandar has found a Dwarf from Toril that is determined to take down his enemies regardless of the cost. Not to be outdone, Valkrill has recruited fiery Soulborgs from an earlier age of Alpha Prime.
Confirmed Units:
Vulcanmech Incediborgs (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showpost.php?p=1428968&postcount=4)
Ulfrid Hornwrangler (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showpost.php?p=1535989&postcount=12)

C3V Bonus: Long awaited Bio of Kira Jax
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/files/1/1/1/8/kira.jpg
KIRA JAX BIO:
Kira Jax was moving very carefully so she wouldn't be spotted. The gap between the buildings in front of her was exposed to the enemy, but she couldn't wait: she had to warn her squadron before the Soulborg army--twice the size they had expected--made it this far. Slipping a small extension mirror out of her sleeve, she slowly edged it around the doorway. No one to the left, and no one to the right.
She let out a quick sigh, then, with all her might, bolted out into the open air. She grabbed the frame of the door on the far side, gripping tight to swing herself in.
But, as she kicked off, a large metal claw caught her left leg and ripped her hand off the door frame. Lithely, she twisted to come face to face with electric red eyes and a metal glare.
Major X-17’s lights flashed as he began to scan her, but she wasn’t going to give him the chance to tag her. She had made it nine years so far without being tagged and she wasn’t planning on ending that streak today. Right arm pressed against X-17's breastplate, she pulled an empty syringe out of her medical pocket with her left hand, and expertly jabbed it into the centimeter-long gap between the Major’s arm and claw.
Major X-17’s entire body froze and his eyes blinked out. Kira took the split-second she had before the Major's systems rerouted to pry open the claw. Kira was already on the move before her feet hit the ground. She dashed into the other building and wove her way through the smaller gaps in the rubble where only a Deathreaver could follow. Time was running out....
Stay tuned for more confirmed units from Wave 15 in coming weeks. All units have been designed, now they need to be properly and carefully balanced. That's where your playtesting comes in.
So help speed up the arrival of the Age of Chaos by signing up (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=33397) today.

Ulfrid Hornwrangler: I playtested him so I can't make any horribly wrong speculations..
Vulcanmech Incediborgs: I thought they might be Einar, but I guess not. My prediction for there stats, move 4, Range 7, attack 3, defense 5, points 120.
Flamethrower Special Attack Range 5. Attack 3. Choose a figure to attack you may also choose 2 other figures adjacent to the targeted figure to be affected by Flamethrower Special Attack. Roll attack dice once for all affected figures. Each figure rolls defensive dice separately, Figures with a lave resistance power are not affected by Flamethrower Special Attack. I'm pretty certain they will have a special attack.
There other power I'm have trouble thinking of, synergies with other Valkrill units doesn't seem likely, and there is very little cross synergies between the different Soulborg factions. I'm leaning towards a defensive power to try and keep them alive a little longer. what that power is I'm not sure, maybe if there attacked with a normal attack by a figure adjacent they get a extra defense dice, it could be called Wall of flames.
Out of all the figures that I have not playtested that are coming out this wave I'm looking forward to the Incediborgs the most, by far.

Wooo! Jandar gets a dwarf! And Valkrill gets his Soulborgs! The Jax Bio is awesome, really top quality stuff you guys crank out. I've already ordered Ulfrid, but unfortunately I haven't saved enough for the Incendiborgs. Speaking of them, does anybody know a place where they aren't being sold for $20 or more?
Anyway, as it has been said, those Soulborgs will likely have a flamethrower SA... or perhaps a version of Poisonous Acid Breath. I too doubt any real synergy with the other Valkrill units. Although I'm hedging a bet that Lava Resistant will be on that card.
With the Dwarf, I'm predicting one of the 2 following types of abilities/stats
1) Faster than the other dwarf heroes, 6 movement at least.
2) Low survivability stat-wise, but with a special power to help him last, perhaps defensive agility.
That's all the speculation from me for now, cannot wait to see the next wave.
Keep on Playtesting!

I'm predicting that Ulfrid's ability will be something effective against large/huge figures.
The Dwarves themselves have this (Fearless Advantage), but none of their heroes possess anything similar. It IS found among heroes from other factions though, namely, Jandar: Sir Denrick is a giant-killer. Since Ulfrid also fights for Jandar, I'm guessing this will be the connection. Perhaps dragon-slayer-themed, at least in name? Perhaps will interrupt enemy's bonding with large/huge figures? Or will taunt them into attacking himself?

I still don't have the VBD, the Gnids, some of the Wolfs, etc. because FF sales don't consistently line up with our choices, but I've only got so much $$.
We do try to make sure that we have in the Public Announcements thread all the Rackham/FF units we can, before that year-end sale hits, fwiw.

AT-43 stuff is hit-or-miss, pricewise, and some of the things (like the white UNA Star Troopers) are starting to get harder to find. There are a few deals on eBay now: the user gryfalia (do a search for "AT-43 gryf") is having a sale on a few things. All of his items are Buy-It-Now, and he has the Storm Golem Unit Box for $10 ($6 shipping. He has 9 left and I got 2 with $1 shipping added for the additional item), Captain Newton for $5, and the Strielitz Kollossus Unit Box for $18.
Also, the user sillyjackal has a loose lot of 14 of the UNA Star Troopers for $32. The best part is that if you send him a PM he'll throw in a Strielitz Kollossus Unit Box for $12 with any purchase. I only bought 6 of the Star Troopers from him (from a different listing), but as of this morning the other stuff is still there.

My order consisting of the 3-man skeleton squad, Ulfried, the Maug miniature, and various others just arrived, and I have to say I am very impressed. The Maug is one of the best D&D miniatures I've ever seen in terms of quality, and the skeletons are great. I showed them to a friend of mine who is in nursing school, and even she was amazed at how well the anatomical skeleton is depicted. Individual vertebrae and everything. And Ulfrid, Ulfrid is just.... Yeah, he may be the highest-quality non-Confrontation/AT-43 miniature that C3V has chosen yet...

Ok, so, quick topic jump. I just followed the instructions for this mod last night, and I must say, those were quite thorough and well written, so thanks, guys. This is a fantastic looking model, too. I'm just glad I had a couple of them in my DnD minis already, since I didn't really want to buy one for this (I usually do just borrow minis from my DnD sets when I already own one. Saves a bit of money. Especially for a unique like this guy). Can't wait to see where it goes. I'll get a picture of mine up sometime, so everyone can oooh and aaaah over him.
I will say, though, that this is going to be an interesting figure, because not every one will be quite the same. My wings will be just a bit different from yours, which will be just a bit different from everyone else's. Of course, that shouldn't matter too much, but I do suspect there will be a few instances where I can get my chimera into a pair of hexes where yours doesn't quite fit for one reason or another, and vice versa. Similarly, I'll be able to get mine to hide behind some piece of terrain where yours is just visible (unless the wings aren't hit zones, in which case it won't matter, except for the purposes of auras).
Well, either way, I'm sure you guys have put some thought into that over the two months you've been waiting to see if he would bend back.
Back on the subject everyone is talking about: What figures still need playtesting for this wave? It looks like I'll have some time for it this week, and I want new units in a bad way, so if there are some I can test this week to get the new wave out faster, that's what I want to do. If not, I'll just go over to the playtest thread and pick one at random, I suppose.

One quick note, on slight differences between figures. I've played with people who have very different SBNs than mine and other dragons have had slight differences, as well. SBN might be the worst, since he seems to "droop" differently in his various versions.
The Chimera will have a slightly bigger range than any current Scape unit, but only slightly, I think, based on what I've seen at various tourneys, etc.

Considering I had to use a hairdryer to get SBN to stand up straight after not using him for a while, you're probably right about that, 1Mmirg. But, such are the dangers of playing a game where the pieces are semi-soft plastic, especially when they're tall and top-heavy like SBN, and only really stand up due to clever workings of balance.

Considering I had to use a hairdryer to get SBN to stand up straight after not using him for a while, you're probably right about that, 1Mmirg. C3V Bonus: Long awaited Bio of the Preyblood Thrall
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/files/1/1/1/8/thrall_a.jpg
PREYBLOOD THRALL BIO:
"My family. I have to warn my family!" Even as he felt the life being drained from him, his thoughts were of his wife and children, out there somewhere in the night. However, in the grip of this vampiric beast, he knew he would never see them again.
He landed hard on the cold ground. The vampire had stopped short of completely draining him. He looked up. The monster was standing over him, glowering with a sadistic smile on its face. He rolled over and pushed himself up. He began staggering toward the village, oblivious to the carnage being wrought around him.
"I have to get to the… aaaagh!" His back arched and he crumpled to the ground as searing agony convulsed his body.
Through the haze of pain he saw his friend Jordan fighting off two of the creatures.
"Jordan! He needs help," he thought. "He is my ... my ... FEED!" He felt a wave of nausea wash over him as the thought of feasting on his friend wormed into his mind.
He staggered to his feet. He began a slow shuffling gait to help Jordan.
As he made his way to his friend one thought kept pressing at his fevered mind: "FEED!"
"No!" He fought against the foreign thought. No, it was more than a thought--it was a primal instinct gnawing at his gut. "I will not ... surrender!" With single-minded determination he clamped down on the urge ...
Motion to his right caught his attention. Some of the creatures had wrestled a woman down to the ground and wounded her. Blood gleamed in the moonlight. He felt a supernatural adrenaline course through his limbs. Before he realized what was happening, his slow stagger had become a blood-crazed lurching run towards the hapless woman. To his horror, he knew that he was not running to help her, he was running to consume her.
The last coherent thought of Haldon, beloved husband and father, before the haze of thralldom took him forever, was "No, please no. She is my wife!"
Then he began to feed.
--*--
Nicholas Esenwein looked on as his latest creation began to gorge. He didn’t know what caused different victims to become different kinds of thralls. Nor did he care.
He looked down at the woman held in his crushing grip, gently caressing the side of her face.
"I wonder what kind of thrall you will become, my dear. Shall we find out?"
The look of stark terror in her eyes as he lowered his mouth to her throat gave him the closest thing to joy that could be felt by the cold heart that lay, lifeless, in his chest.
Stay tuned for the last confirmed units for Wave 15 next week. All units have been designed, now they need to be properly and carefully balanced. That's where your playtesting comes in.

I'd assume the Courier is a delicate but fast unit that is either a cheerleader for Vydar units or has a wide range of bonding options.
The new Marro should be... interesting.

Dang, so it really was non-Utgar Marro, not Valkrill soulborgs. In my mind, the command courier will definitely have something to do with messing around with Order Markers. I've playtested the Deathstrike Thrall, so I won't say anything to that one. Hmm. The Havech Eradicators should be interesting. I honestly cannot predict anything for these guys, they seem like a pretty straight-up wild card.

What would you say is the sweet spot for the Command Courier, assuming he has a specific sweet spot?
ZBeeblebrox
March 30th, 2012, 06:58 PM
That is a tough question, without revealing too much. Also it depends on the army
If I was running a Vydar Army, I would want one CC for each Vydar Hero I had in my army to maximize their effectiveness.
EDIT: Also they are still in Public Playtesting (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=33397), so sign up to discover more for yourself :)

4 should be fine if you are only planning on using <550 point armies. I played 6x with a 750 point army in one of my playtests, and it would have been nice to have another (I was proxying with Microcorp Agents. I don't actually have the figure. :D).

Way to drop hints ZB.
Depending on the size of the map and the size of my army, I would want 2-4. I would want to own at least 4 for sure. There is a playtest en media res where I'm using 3 with a 550 point army and the map (and my army) is small enough I probably could have got away with 2.

Hmmm...
I haven't playtested any of the units so they are a mystery to me. I'm thinking that the Havech Eradicators will have a decent ranged attack, a melee attack bonus, and a power so they don't get rebirthed by the hive. I'm hoping the Deathstrike thralls have an anti-squad attack or power to make up for the Preyblood Thralls lack of attacks per turn. I have no clue what the command courier will do and I probably am going to playtest him to get this wave up on the road.
I predict the hero pack will have Morgoloth, Myrddin, Elaria the Pale and Arashara Goshiri in it since Martial La Hire is being worked on.

C3V Bonus: Long awaited Bio of Zogross Hardscale.
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/files/1/1/1/8/zogross.jpg
ZOGROSS HARDSCALE BIO:
"Tandros!" Ana called to me as she hurried in from the tavern's common room. I excused myself from the council and allowed her to lead me back to the small room we were using as a hospital. There lay a small girl, filthy and weeping.
Apparently the child had been part of a caravan lost a fortnight ago along the Western Heartlands near the Marsh of Chelimber. Covered in mud and clearly malnourished, she couldn’t do much but cry and cling to Ana’s leg. Sobbing, she told us of an ambush by rogues on a jungle path near an abandoned temple deep in the Sylathorn Swamp. I was familiar with the site, having cornered and killed a werewolf near there some years ago.
We left the next morning, accompanied by Darrak, knowing it could be a trap.
Emerging from behind walls of hanging vines and slithering up out of the water, they came: a score or more of lizardfolk, with more watching us from deeper in the swamp. Most were green, but some had red or yellow highlights, a rarity among their kind. It is well known that most stick to their own colors. I knew immediately what it could mean and that this could bode very ill.
The warriors parted and a larger than average and strangely unarmed lizard man approached us, scanning each of us in turn. Darrak's usual frown deepened to a scowl of disgust.
The "leader" motioned to a group of his kin standing to our left and a stocky, heavily scarred lizard came out, carrying a large, squirming sack. I could hear noises from inside. The creature gently set the sack before us; I looked to Ana to open it.
Moving as cautiously as possible, she opened the sack to reveal the only other survivor of the attack on the caravan: the twin sister of the girl we’d left behind at the tavern. Ana scooped up the child, speaking a few soft reassuring words. "It’s okay sweetie, you’re safe now." She put the child to sleep with a wave of her hand and laid her in the wagon.
What came next was as big a surprise as I've had in my many years as a fighting man: the lizard in charge spoke to us! "I Zogrossss Haaardsssscaale. Weee retuurn chiiildsss. Bhaad Mmennn deeaad. Noooo fiiight, weee traaade." It smiled with knife-like teeth nearly 3 inches in length. Clearing my throat, I replied. "Yes. We trade, no fighting. We’ll work something out with the merchants in the area."
He stretched out his razor-clawed hand as a sign of agreement. I returned the gesture and we shook, something which perhaps no lizardfolk and man had ever done previously. With that, the leader motioned once more and the lizardmen turned, skulking back into the swamps from which they had come.

Martial La Hire: Playtested
Myrddin: My guess for the states 7 life, 5 move, range 1, attack 3, defense 2 or 3. "Myrddin, who can bring down the power of the storm upon his enemies." Maybe a special attack that dose not need LOS, If will either be an explosive attack or you can choose 3 nonadjacent figures within 5 spaces of Myriddin to be affected by XXXXX special attack. The attack will probably by 3, maybe 4.
"help his friends–but only with a price." Maybe you can heal an adjacent figure by adding as many wounds you take off the card your healing and adding it to Myriddin. If Myriddin has a power like that it probably only work on small and medium figures because it would be broken with Q9.

My guess is that their sculpts are a bit unwieldy. They're difficult to even play Confrontation with, because they protrude off of their bases so much. They're also a bit unsteady. They look awesome, but in use they're my least favorite Rackham sculpt.

And I'll even THIRD that with a complaint about the brittleness of the "Confrontation" figures... I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into finding appropriate sculpts, designing stat cards, creating back stories, and play testing to assure "balance," but after acquiring the Rag'narok Wolven units, I am disappointed with the composition, since many weapons and limbs have fallen off before I've even had a chance to play with them.

I for one am a bit disappointed with the brittleness of the Confrontation miniatures, but it isn't a major problem. Just treat them with care, be careful taking them out of the box, and they'll last you a while. Funny how the most durable part of the figures (the base), is the part I need to remove/alter.

We understand the Rackham Confrontation units are more fragile than other pre-painted minis...but when pre-painted miniatures are at a premium in this day and time...and we find a good supply of those figures for Scapers to purchase...we are going to use them, an just tell everyone to take extra precautions.
(ie, I kept all the large Army boxes, and took out the extras. Then use bubble wrap and the plastic inserts to keep my figures safe...so far it is working. I also use bubble wrap (which is inexpensive) for transport to tournaments.)

I know, but I couldn't resist... it was Saturday night and I thought up a great scenario of the vestal she wolves quietly floating through the tiny bubbles to sneak up on the soulborgs encamped around the soap dish. The Glads and Blasts were cut to shreads before they could activate, but Q9 who was standing guard behind the shampoo bottle had the high ground and mowed down the doggish ladies until the elemental rinse cycle shorted out his circuitry.
Ours have held together fine, though they haven't seen much use yet. In & out of the box a few times, handled delicately.
I'll try to be more careful. I was just voicing my disappointment with "brittle" miniatures in general hoping of persuading the C3V Team to consider alternatives before deciding upon more of this type for future units.
&obtw: Has anyone checked out the new line of collectible figures that are at Walmarts (etc.) for the "Hunger Games" movie. They are single item "blind" purchases (so you get a Cracker-Jack suprise in every box), that might provide a new character or two. I was the reading the promo text on the packaging last month when I spotted the display and got a laugh out of reading "...the blockbuster film..." when it had NOT even been released to the theaters yet. Great marketing hype.

Trust me: we consider lots of alternatives. Pretty much every alternative, in fact. But there just aren't that many. So I wouldn't count on having seen the last of the Confrontation minis yet. Yes, they're a PITA--I have at least 3 cued up in the other room for regluing myself. But they're gorgeous, they're in reasonable supply, they're generally fairly cheap, and they offer lots of alternatives: i.e., some fantasy, some sci-fi, some historical, some horror, etc. There's no way we can ignore all that.

As Xotli says, the Rackham minis are just too useful for C3V to ignore; people just need to take better care of their toys. At least, that's what my mother taught me when I was five.

Unfortunately it seems like the best way to save them will be to just keep the original blister packaging and store them that way.
They are gorgeous sculpts. I bought the Wolfen Army Box and I can't wait to get to use them.

That's how I store my Gnids. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to get the miniatures from the Ram Army Box back into their packaging. Thankfully, they seem to be the most durable Confrontation miniatures I've purchased thus far.

That's weird, because after i took out all the extra stuff (I kept the plastic inserts and use some bubble warp), I can fit all of this in the Ram Box:

And I totally expect to see more Rackham mini's - they are "gorgeous" and pre-painted. It just seemed like a good opportunity to vent. Trust me, I'm very happy that the C3V Team is NOT choosing some Games Workshop crap that has to be assembled and then colorized. That's why I chose HS over WH and 40K in the first place.

Well I've updated this thread:
C3V Public Miniature Information Thread - DO NOT POST!!! (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=35777)
I
updated the OP.
added new sculpt info
slipped in all the sculpt information on Wave 14
and added all the released Unit Names to each individual sculpt post.
After a conversation in another thread, I realized that C3V needed a one-stop place to find info on Sculpts and Units...so I've made the new additions with that in mind.
If anybody has more ideas for assisting with your C3V mania, please let me know. ;)

Sweet. Thanks for the update, that makes things a lot easier to find. And having the names for announced units definitely makes it easier, since I wasn't sure about some of them.
Really looking forward to wave 15. I'm actually holding off on submitting armies to our next tournament (which is an auction thing) until wave 15 is out, since it has to be close, right? I really want to throw some of these guys in there, and I'm especially hopeful about the new thralls.

Two things: Want updateeeee! When are new figures being released!!!!! Neeeeeed neeeew 'scaaape!
Ok, now that I got that out of my system: I picked up the solaris 7 pack and an extra box of the Sylvan Animae, since I figured 3 squads would feel like too few. (Actually, I had forgotten that it was a two man squad, so I thought I only had two squads, which definitely made me want to get another box, but anyway). I'm really excited to see another 3-6 soulborgs in a box like that. Some of them are pretty awesome.... although the one with no arms and two massive missile banks (lower left, if you look at the pic) seems the most out there, in terms of structure and compatibility. As for the other figures, I like the one with the gun and the sword (top left, I think. I pulled them out last night and forgot which slot he was in, and it's hard to see in the pic). The one in joker colors (bottom right) seems a bit off, but that's probably mainly the color scheme.... but anyway. I'm really pleased with this pack, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with the lot of them. I'll take a good picture of the 6 bots out of package sometime, to make it easier to talk about them.
Also, from that picture in the miniatures thread, it looks like the announced figure goes on a deathwalker 9k base? Or does he fit on one of the standard size bases? I suppose I could figure that out for myself when I get around to rebasing him sometime in the near future, I just figured I'd ask and save myself a little bit of time and trouble.

It is a DWK Large single base.
Just for future reference; If it says "large - single spaced"...that is what that means...because large figures do not go on a medium base. ;)

Sadly, me and my fellow Lead Playtesters have all been distracted with Real Life for awhile and playtesting beyond Wave 15 has slowed a little. So in short, there is nothing up for Public Playtesting at this time. Thankfully, things have started to pick up and I believe we will have some big surprises coming into Public Playtesting quite soon.

My understanding is that they thought the Gallery was fixed a few weekends ago, but it turns out it wasn't or it had another issue. I don't know the ins and outs of the reasons.
All of this is why we're looking at another way to do a release, in case the Gallery doesn't get fixed.

Since the cards are .pdfs, Google Docs (or Google Drive, rather) would be a great option.

We have another option in the works (similar to what the C3G just did). We're hoping the Gallery comes up soon, but if not, we'll pursue that option.

Tease us, baby! One card at a time ensures a flurry of delicious delicious theoryscaping and speculating for every new unit. Give 'em each their moment in the sun! The longer the reveal is drawn out, the more exciting it is for me...
Again, just my two cents. I know I'm in the minority here.

I just thought I'd share these photos of the Doom Blade Orc Cyclops with you guys. These are all staged photos to give you an idea of his scale. I think he's awesome.

Yeah, when i got that fig and rebased him, I though he was pretty much awesome, just for size. He's also surprisingly stable, though I imagine a solid blow to the table could bring him down, along with any trees or figures he was standing next to.
In any case, I'm super excited to see his stats, I just have to either wait until I'm moved and can sign up to playtest again, or wait until he's released if all the spots fill up before then.
Of course, someone could start releasing wave 15 figures, then I'd be too distracted to think about it until I'm moved in.

While we are on the topic of the Doom Blade Orc Cyclops, what kind of knife are you guys using to rebase this miniature? The plastic looks pretty thick and I'm not sure an x-acto blade will cut it.

Chisel.
Works like a charm. (I own a cheap set of chisels.... I'll keep them around even after I get a good set, just for debasing miniatures like this)
I found it popped the mini off the base at the glue.
ETA: For this one, I had trouble getting my exacto down around the base. Boil and slice works, but I find the chisel is easier.

Tanks fur da tip of dunking them in boiling OIL water first to soften the plastick before slicing. Having worked in seleral mail rooms and shipping-&-receiving facilities, my favorite tool is a "Box-Cutter" especially the long-bladed Dollar Store variety, which I often carry in my back pocket, unless I going to the airport or anywhere there mightbe a metal detector at the door (i.e. courthouses, schools, etc.). It's kind of hard to explain that they're just for ripping through cardboard and tape, and for building custom models of miniature terrain and monsters. &obtw: That Cyclops deffinitely lo^oks like "Jotun on steroids" ~~lol~~ I hope in this next Wave we are also getting a sheperd-boy with a sling-shot to take him down.

I removed the bottom part of his base, then used wire cutters to trim it away up to his feet. Then I pried his feet from the base with an x-acto knife.

You guys are scary!
Just for your patience, we're going to give you a sneak peak at one of the units: ;)
NAME = C3V FAN
GENERAL = Jandar
PLANET = Earth
SPECIES = Human
UNIQUENESS = Uncommon Hero
CLASS = Fan
PERSONALITY = Patient
SIZE/HEIGHT = Medium 5
LIFE = 6
MOVE ADVANCED/BASIC = 5/5
RANGE ADVANCED/BASIC = 1/1
ATTACK ADVANCED/BASIC = 2/7
DEFENSE ADVANCED/BASIC = 2/7
POINTS = 130
EVER PATIENT
After revealing on Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with this C3V Fan, you may place 1 Patience Marker on this Army Card and remove 1 wound marker from this Army Card. A C3V Fan adds 1 to its attack and defense number for each Patience Marker on its Army Card. There cannot be more than 5 Patience Markers on this Army Card.
NO MORE WAITING!
After taking a turn with this C3V Fan, you must roll the 20-sided die. Add 2 to your die roll for each Patience Marker on this card. If you roll a 20, you may immediately take one additional turn with this C3V Fan. During this additional turn, this C3V Fan adds 3 to its move and attack numbers. After attacking on this additional turn, remove all Patience Markers from this Army Card.
FRIGHTENING PRESENCE
Common figures attacking this C3V Fan with a normal attack subtract 1 from their attack dice.
EDIT: Whoops, that third power doesn't go to this design, I would have sworn I was in the Inner Sanctum.

We had a color issue with the Einar template that is slowing down release, but things are looking really good. Once RL works such for our Art team to get these last few i's dotted and t's crossed, I think we'll (finally) be able to release. (Barring no other unexpected issues...)
The good news in all of this is that your wait for Wave 16 will be shorter. We're still pushing forward on design (and are well past Wave 16, actually), and so even as we wait to be able to give you Wave 15, Wave 16 is progressing.
Thanks for your support and interest. We want to get this right and once it's all solid and well done, you'll get it!

Stupid Einar, always messing things up...
On another note, it looks like there are some nice Einar cards coming later (I'm guessing the Kenku Wing Mage figure will synergize with SoV's Beakface Sneaks, and the color scheme matches Einar pretty welll).
Do you have a projected date at this point for the beginning of the release?

Some of you noticed that we didn't do a Public Access Poll last month. It wasn't an oversight. Rather, we have voted to extend Public Access to 3 (instead of 2) months. To make that work, we pushed off that last poll and from here on out we'll do a Poll every 45 days. Giving each PAM 90 days of access to the Sanctum, a bit more time to work your magic and leave your imprint on the C3V.
I think this will be a win-win for everyone involved.
