is anyone looking forward to GH2?
My friend has the playable demo of it.
Possible Spoiler:
Strutter
Shout at the Devil
YYZ
You Really Got Me
are the four songs on it. All 4 modes are playable on it, as well as a new character (I don't remember his name). He's already gotten 4 stars on all of them on Hard mode.
more possible spoilers:
There are now 3-button chords to hit, and apparently one (or more) of the songs have you switch from 3-button to 2-button and back again repeatedly.
According to my friend, Hard mode on this game is equilavent to Expert mode in the first, but that's all opinion.
The game is due out November 7th, and can be bought with or without a guitar controller (it is compatible with the original controller).
EDIT: Changed it to include ALL guitar hero games, rather than just GH2
EDIT: Posted GH3 friend codes (Wii):

wow, you beat freebird on hard? i dont have GH2, but i do have the first one. i beat Bark at the Moon on hard, but only a 3 star rating.....i barely got through, and i thought my fingers were going to fall off.

yeah, but i only got 3 stars and i barely squeezed by it from lucky star power.
There's like 1600 notes in Freebird (hard) and i hit around 1100 of them. There's like 19 consecutive guitar solos too (A-S).........
My friend can make it to about 90% on expert before he fails...i've seen a youtube video of it on expert and that guy mut have no life. 5 stars on expert with over 450K points.....

possible, but highly unlikely, seeing as how an actual guitar is much much much more intricate. the GH controller has one area to strum, where a real guitar has like 6. Frets are also completely up and down the neck rather than just one area...

yeah, my friend who's actually in a band and plays lead guitar is freakin awesome on a real guitar....but struggles with guitar hero. i mean, he was a lot better than i was when he FIRST picked up the game, but after a while, i got better than him. he definitely doesnt have as much trouble reaching all the keys though.

yup. my friend doesn't like the guitar it is coming out with; supposedly they mangled the button placement. According to him, the start/select buttons are out of reach and the strummer and whammy bar are too far down or something.
It's also supposed to be able to let you download your own songs and create your own notes for it, but that's Xbox 360 exclusive.

Have you looked at http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=3339 ?
Or Guitar hero 3 that comes out in the fall, or Rock Hero (2 guitars, Drum set, and microphone that doubles as a tambourine or cowbell) with 4 player action..
That would be Rock Band. :P And GH3 hasn't been confirmed for the fall yet, and honestly, i'm not too excited for it :?
Why not?
Because i've seen the set list so far, and i've only heard of 3 or so songs (at least they're good songs), and i've seen gameplay footage, and it's not exactly impressive, IMO.

80's Edition is going to be awesome
And I suggest trying to play GH without the guitar lol, it's insane.
I can't stand that the package deal is $80 while the game alone is $50 and the guitar alone is $60. It's like, not worth getting two guitars. That's one reason why I haven't bought it yet.
I didn't like this game at first, before I ever played it I decided that I wouldn't because it would be lame and everyone would think that they're amazing at guitar just because they can play a video game. As a musician I decided that just playing my guitar would be enough.
Then, after GH2 came out I decided to check it out at my friends house. Now, every month or so a bunch of us get together and have "GH Parties." It's a blast. I love the game. ALOT. Lol. I don't own it yet because I don't really need it. 2 of my close friends, close distance wise as well, own it and so does my older brother who stops by all the time (21 and basically lives at his girlfriends house :-P) So I get to play not OFTEN but often enough. Within probably playing 10 times, maybe doing 3 songs each time, I decided to move up to Hard mode. I started a career on my brothers version and beat it in 1 1/2 days on hard (he left and wouldn't let me keep the game here :( ) I've been trying to master expert for a couple weeks.
And tonight I went to Wal-Mart on a scape-hunt (I was let down) and saw that GH2 was set up in the electronics section. Some little kid was playing it so I waited patiently. He failed "You Really Got Me" like 4 times, getting 10% into it each time, before giving up. I took over and decided that since I haven't done that song in a while, I'd go for it. I completed it on expert (98%) and put the guitar down only to realize that the kid had been standing there the whole time. He had this look on his face that I didn't know what to make of. Not sure if he was mad, sad, amazed. I don't know but I walked away because I didn't want to cause trouble or upset a little kid....again.
Whew. That's too much to type at 4am. Anyway, love the game, can't wait to get 80's Edition.

No, no, no, no, no. The bundle is $79.99 retail. Wireless guitars are $50-$60, but that's because they're, well..wireless. You can get a standard corded guitar from EBgames for close to 20 or 25. I think they're about 30 or so new at like circuit city or something. I just recently bought a wireless one because i had a target gift card.
And, unless i have been misinformed, GH 80's wi'll not be sold with a guitar, nor will it have any bonus songs. And it comes out a week from today!

I never got around to pre-ordering. I went into GameCrazy on sunday though and tried, but with 2 days till it came out, i was too late. I did give them my name and number, but this was after standing at the counter for about 15 minutes, while a group of people felt it was absolutely necessary to walk BEHIND the counter to get the employees attention to ask for a Gamecube and then have a 10 minute debate on which f'in color to get. Ehh....try and rent it first. It's a $40 game, but IMO, it's one of those that you like or you don't like. No in between. I feel like this game was thrown together in a week or something. like most high-school projects. Done the night before it's due. It's not a bad game, not in the least, but with only 30 songs and no bonus songs, it's not quite as good as GH1 or GH2.

IGN gave the 80's edition a 7.2 out of 10 saying it was decent. I think the other entries in the series scored over a 9 out of 10. I think their biggest beef was the song selection and the lack of a challenge. I was going to pick it up, but I'll think I'll pass now.

Does anyone still play Guitar Hero 1 I like the songs but the hammer-ons are so hard to do!
I do only cause I only have 1... It still has the best songs
ehh, thats all a matter of opinion. Personally, as far as setlist goes, 80s is my favorite. I only like GH1 because without it, we wouldn't have GH2 or the upcoming GH3.

Iron Man, Godzilla and More than a feeling were fun, but Ziggy Stardust annoys the crap outta me, Smoke on the Water and I Love Rock and Roll are both too easy, they butchered Killer Queen (come on, only Freddy Mercury could handle those notes), and I wanna be Sedated got old as soon as i saw my friend play it with his back facing the TV.

Does anyone who plays guitar hero actually play the guitar? I'm a bassist, and I have friends that don't even play musical instruments that regularly beat me silly at this game, because of the amount of time they spend on it. Do you folks realize that if you played a REAL guitar as much as you played guitar hero, you'd be a good guitar player??

I personally own a 6-string bass, and they come in 5, 7, 8, 9, and even more ridiculous numbers of strings. Here's a pic of a 12-string bass I found on google just now:

Who cares who picked up a guitar first? That's not even the point. Even if I started playing yesterday, I'd still be making more progress than if I was playing guitar hero.
I think it's a pretty valid point that if people, any people, my friends included, played a real guitar 3 hours a day instead of guitar hero 3 hours a day, they would be real guitar players. If you consider that a "bash" then you have some seriously messed up priorities (IE that video games are more important than real life, and that anyone who thinks so is a jerk).
When I tell my overweight friend that if he spent as much time lifting weights and exercising as he does playing World of Warcraft that he'd be super buff and in the best shape of his life, I'm not "bashing" him, I'm telling him THE TRUTH.

No. I didn't see it written. I inferred it. Just like i do when ANYONE compares real guitar to guitar hero. They're no where close to the same thing, yet people (guitarists in general; there are a few that don't apply, and you have yet to work your way onto that list) tend to say that because they can play a REAL guitar, that they are cooler. Again, that's not everyone, and not everyone actually says it. Again, i inferred
1. to derive by reasoning; conclude or judge from premises or evidence: [i]They inferred his displeasure from his cool tone of voice.[i]
Oh, and simply because i didn't acknowledge your post, doesn't mean I ignored it. See? You inferred that i ignored it by my lack of responding. I read it. Twice even. I knew they made basses with ridiculous numbers of strings. A good friend of mine plays bass. They also make guitars with ridiculous numbers of strings, but generally, when one thinks of bass guitar, they think 4 strings, and when one thinks electric or acoustic guitar, they think 6 strings. Now, knowing that, which is more challenging, 4 string or 6 string? Obviously 6 string, because of the 2 additional strings and the number of new possible finger configurations.
This is a thread devoted to discussing Guitar Hero, not real guitars. Now that i have hit on everything you have posted, can you please get on subject?

Sure, as soon as you acknowledge your incorrect inferral. I'm not going to sit here and be your patsy just because you like to think everyone is out to get you, or is secretly thinking they are "cooler" than you. If 25 people that play guitar have openly said "guitar hero sucks, I'm super cool because I play real guitar" and a 26th person comes along and says something like "hey guys, you know if you play guitar as much as you play the game, you'll be able to play a real guitar?" and you assume they are instead thinking "ha ha I'm so COOL" you are forming a prejudice and should examine, evaluate, and eliminate it.
By not addressing my direct refutal of your original argument in an online environment, you were clearly ignoring what I said. I can listen to someone talk all day and ignore them the entire time. Just because I hear and understand them doesn't mean I care or even want to hear it. I am ignoring them. You read my post (twice even), but you simply didn't care. You had to wait until you could twist the "inferral" argument (based on your incomplete and incorrect reasoning, as I have stated several times that I do not think I am "cooler" than you) and try to turn the situation to your advantage.
See my occupation, dude, I'm a teacher, I don't get off on pushing kids around, my profession dictates that I do the opposite. Don't be so bossy and pushy over a video game, people are going to insult you a lot more than you think I did as you go through life, and you can't resort to a snarky attitude every time it happens.
And as far as being on topic, Guitar Hero is a video game about playing guitar...I think talking about guitar is a pretty valid option, don't you think? I don't think the forums about Battlefield 1942 get all hissy when they start discussing real battle tactics and real firearm skill, or real military experience...
On a side note, why are you so upset that someone would think they were "cooler" than you? Are you that "uncool"? Or are you like, the #1 cooelst kid at your school and you couldn't possibly stand being dethroned? I do not understand.

As i see it, inferrals are like opinions. They simply cannot be wrong, no matter how hard you try to prove other wise. This situation is like data. 25-1 is nothing but a percent, and when you look at it like that, those 25 people overpower that 1. Now, if 25 MORE people said the same as you, then it'd be different. Im not forming a prejudice, i'm analyzing and collecting data, and with data, majority rules. Sorry bub, you're not in the majority yet.

No, by not addressing your refutal of my original argument, i simply implied that you won that portion of the dabate, and didn't feel it was necessary to simply post something along the lines of "touché," because at that time, i didn't have anything worth saying about that particular post. About the topic: It's Guitar Hero. Not Guitar. I've never played Battlefield of any sort, but im sure, if they were smart they'd lay their forums out like heroscapers, and have sections meant for real battle discussions. If you want to talk about guitar, there was a thread started the other day. Go there and talk about your guitar; there someone will value your input and maybe even use it; Here, i'll simply ignore it because it is not on the given topic. That's a really terrible attitude, and it actually is a kind of prejudice. Because you've talked to a bunch of jerks (who think they are cooler than you) that happen to play guitar, I get to be one until a lot more not-jerks prove themselves to you?
Let me make sure I have this right. Using your logic, if someone of a particular race robs me twice, I have to literally wait until 3 people of that same race do something nice for me before I stop thinking all of them are robbers? That might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Yeah, i read somewhere that they redid the entire guitar; The frets are smaller and a bit closer to allow for easier sliding, and the strum bar has been modified to be quieter (we all know how annoying that clicking can be to those watching!).
I'm not sure if this is on GH3 or not, but i know on rock band, the guitars will have 10 frets; 5 at the top as normal, and 5 more at the bottom of the neck, meant for special solo sections. It'll be interesting to see how that works

The new guitar does not require as much tilt to activate star power, however the select button is slightly moved and more prominent for thumbing it to activate star power that way.

For me, my palm rests just on top of the select button when i lay my thumb on the strum bar, that way all i have to do is tilt my hand like 1/4 inch.

I JACKED up my hammer from Target. I just shredded too hardcore for it to handle and it broke. The whammy bar doesn't work and neither do the buttons. My friend who works at Target said he ruined his strum bar from playing too much.

How much does your friend play? I have three SG's (two black one red) and I play A LOT, but my strum bars all still work really well, and if your whammy bar breaks, you can tie a rubber band around the base of it and the white thing on the bottom that holds the strap in and it'll work better.

if that's the case, then thats a hell of a deal. My copy for the wii with one guitar was $94.49, and i'm sure individual guitars will cost a minimum of 30 each. I believe if you get it on PS2 or Xbox360, you can use the GH2 guitars with it though...

Got mine. Not a huge fan of the new GUI. The Star power bar in particular isn't very easy to read at a glance. Seems harder than 2 overall, but there's some awesome songs. Lots of Master tracks so less "that sounds weird" moments. Boss battles are kinda meh to me, but the game is fun. The 360 Le Paul guitar is simply a must have. Smooth, comfortable, and wireless.

To get your friend code, do this:
main menu ----> nintendo WFC ----> show friend roster
your code is in the top left corner of the screen
I'm not sure if you need 2 guitars, but i'm fairly certain you can't do it online. idk if you can use the guitar you get with the game and a regular wii remote, like you can on PS2 and the likes.

Easy fight against Lou on expert
This glitch makes you play against Lou with the expert notes but he will have easy notes (and have the AI of the "easy" Lou).
1) Unlock the battle with Lou on expert (carrer mode only).
2) Start the battle with him
3) Shortly after the first note sections (about 10 seconds), Strum without holding any fret buttons untill you lose
4) At the game over screen go to "Tutorial"
5) Pick the Tutorial for Guitar Battle, And play through it untill you get the message "Lesson Complete"
6) As soon as the fret board appears. Pause the game and go to exit, (this will take you back to the lesson menu)
7) From there hit the red button so that you can go back to the list of songs
8) Pick the fight with Lou and enjoy an easy VICTORY!
How the lazy man wins.

I failed because i sucked (this was hard, not expert BTW) and went to tutorial, thinking it was practice (idk why; it clearly siad tutorial) and went to the guitar battle one. Then i lost interest after like 10 seconds and went to the main menu and tried it again. I had hard, he had easy. I still lost horribly. I had 3 power ups. Used em all on him. I have only played GH 1 and 2 a total of a half hour with my brother in-law and nephew. I enjoyed it and asked my wife for GH3 for Christmas this year. She told me to go ahead and buy it (we are weird about exchanging our Christmas gifts for one another early, or even buying our own gifts ourselves ).
So I picked up GH3 yesterday for my PS2 and am working my way slowwwwwwwwly on Easy level. I'll bump it up soon enough though. It's really a blast and I enjoy the wireless guitar and like all the songs so far.

If you've played for awhile you really should start medium soon. I didn't even realize it but I stayed on easy mode for about the first two weeks I played when I could've been playing medium. Now because I played easy for too long, I never got accustomed to using my pinky for the fourth fret on medium, and now I play expert, with three fingers.

Thanks moorific, but I did start medium after a couple days on easy. I've gotten all the way through but haven't beaten Lou yet. I haven't really tried too much to beat him because I've been having fun going back and playing the other songs and trying to do better than before. I've got the pinky working, actually, that's why I went to medium because I didn't want to get into bad habbits on easy.
Anyway, I really love the game and look forward to borrowing the older versions from my brother in-law to try them out.

Yeah, I don't have the Kramer, it does look cool, but I hear it has a few glitches.

I bought GH3 last week. I've beaten medium and got to the battle with Tom Morello on Hard and just quit. Then I made the mistake of going online and watching some college kid beat "Through the Fire and Flames" on Expert ... with 100%.
I just don't want to get that good. It's fun for me to pick up and play some new songs, but it's hardly worth the $75 I spent unless I spend another $50 for a second guitar when GH4 comes out or whatever. I think I may be returning this one...

That's fake, as of right now it's impossible to full combo (get 100% with no overstrums).

EPIC WIN!!!!! I was playing online teaching people why you don't play on Xbox live Pro Face-off on medium 3 songs. (I kept picking TtFaF and DESTROYING them) when I came across a 3 song PFO on Expert. I took him up on it. He picked My Name is Jonas, I took Cult of Personality (Those are my 2 best songs other than City on Flames with Rock N Roll). 100% on MNiJ and then I destroyed CoP. So I won, but then and achievement award pops up 'Meet your Maker' I check it out and the description reads "Beat a creator of Guitar Hero 3 and their own game"... I was like O_O!
On a separate note, here's my progression from Easy to Expert in 3 or so months. I thought this plan may help some of the newer players out.
I started in late March playing GH2 on Easy. I played through Easy in one night. I then jumped right into Medium. I butchered my way through it and then tried Hard. Needless to say Hard destroyed me. I went back and just kept playing Medium trying to 5* things. I also did a lot of co-op. Eventually you just have to force yourself to beat songs on hard. Play them 3 or 4 times until you get it no matter how frustrating it can be for some songs. After that you CAN play expert, but the last few sets will be very difficult so it is a good idea to 5* most of Hard before moving and and then before you know it you're 5*ing Knights of Cydonia on expert.

I've five-starred Easy and Medium in GH2, but that one song on Hard is still destroying me and I can't even get three frickin' stars to pass on it. I hate the Stone Temple Pilots so much now....grrr....
Anyway, do any GH3 owners have the bonus CD soundtrack that is available in stores? It has several songs from the game, but more interestingly, it has codes to unlock free bonus downloadable songs. Nowhere can I find out what those songs are though.....anybody know? I might buy the CD if the songs are any good, as I'm pretty certain I'm getting GH3 for Christmas.

YES!!!! I finally beat that darn STP song from GH2! Haha! I felt so good about it I immediately took a break. I'm not even going to try and go back and five-star that sucker....three stars is good enough to move on. Hard difficulty was serving me very well up until I hit that nightmare of a roadblock. I'm not even sure why I had so much trouble with it.
Anyway, where did you hear this news about the next GH3 downloadable?
I'm still waiting for the rest of the GH1 tracks to be released on 360...or for the Rocks the 80's pack to hit the 360 Marketplace. Seems like an easy way to make a killing.

I recently got Marketplace points as a gift and bought all four of the song packs that contain songs from Guitar Hero 1, along with the foreign track from Spain. Some great stuff in there. The only part that sucks is that, as with bonus songs and easy mode, you can't earn any money playing downloadable tracks. Still, Smoke on the Water and Frakenstein and Sin Documentos and Killer Queen are all really fun to play. The Spanish song is a real departure from the typical hard-rock sound of most Guitar Hero tracks...after playing it I would love to see a whole donwload set of flamenco and Spanish guitar songs.
I expect that I will buy the remaining song packs eventually (two indie packs, two more foregin songs, and a My Chemical Romance pack). I have my fingers crossed that additional relatives will buy me 360 points as gifts.
Advice to Guitar Hero newbies or those that aren't great at the game....by all the SONGS from the in-game store first, as the virtual money will eventually become harder and harder to earn, and the game is all about having a great variety of songs after all....songs are certianly the store item with the most play value. Once you five star a career mode song you can't earn any more cash on it unless you play at a higher difficulty level. Eventually you will likely reach your max-out point where unless you want to practice for hours a day you just aren't going to get any better. I'm approaching that point. I think four starring Hard songs, with the occassional five-star Hard fluke or three star regression thrown in, is about as good as I'm going to get. I can barely hang in on Expert, only managing to squeek out a few three stars.

You've hit the notorious wall. Nothing will happen to make you better until one day. When all of the sudden the notes are no longer notes, merely just patterns. It is on this day that TRUE guitar heroes are born...
I think of the songs as patterns already, but what trips me up is I also think of them rythmically....that really screws me over on expert where sometimes notes are throw in where it doesn't musically feel like there should be notes.
Just play them several times until you can feel every note... After a few runs through you can start to feel some of the harder songs on Expert. Last Child is a great one to really FEEL the notes... That's the first one I learned to do it on.
And, IMO, Pride and Joy is one of the songs with an odd rhythym that is a good one to try.
In the wise words of K/H... **** Stevie Ray!
Dude, Stevie Ray is such a boss.
SRV is amazing, but the cover just doesn't get his essence. The tonation of his guitar and the riggidness of his voice are un-replicable. The cover just isn't good.

Have you played it yet? I really don't like the guitar, the hammer-on notes are too hard to distinguish. The drums are really cool though!
