View Full Version : Pyre's Scenarios

The day has come. After years of planning, years of scheming, years of lying, cheating, and stealing… it all pays off. The final piece is in place. The one being powerful enough to stop the menace can be summed back into this dimension. The device is heavily defended, and the hours—months—of time devoted to creating it have not been wasted. The guards, made extremely loyal by unthinkably large payoffs, have the trap set. The kidnapping was a perfect success, thanks to Black Mask’s expertise and deviousness. Now returned to his mantle of head Crime Lord of Gotham, he was satisfied, and should never be a problem. The other crime lords are unhappy, but it’s Mask’s problem. There are much larger goals now…
Word is he’s arriving. Blast, just a little too soon. We won’t have time to test the device, or prime the beast for the battle. But it won’t matter. We’ll hold him off ourselves until the process is finished, and then we’ll leave it to the beast. I have a little present saved just for him that I’ve been waiting to try out, anyway. Once he wastes his time saving the bait, he’ll have no time to save himself.
I will kill you, Superman. Nothing can stop me this time.
The Death of Superman
A work in progress, for use with C3G
(I'll be working on this throughout the next few months, probably. Stay tuned! Though I have most of the story lined up, the gameplay I might not be the best at, so help would definitely be appreciated!)

Sounds like you really want to write a story here. :p
I am not sure what exactly you aim to accomplish other than write a story, but I hope it is worth your time spent away from playtesting C3G stuff as it comes up for playtesting. ;)

Haha, what good is a scenario without a good story to back it up? ;)
I've said it a million times, though, I'd love to playtest, I just don't have the time! 3 days of the week I'm at school all day, and then the other days are on and off with work and homework, so it's difficult to sit down and test (Especially with a little brother who hates BOV maps, and would much rather make his own gigantic beasts :p )
This I can work on a bit while not at home, so I figured it'd be fun.

Terrific write-up! And what, pray tell, is wrong with writing a story?
One of the challenges I faced in my own stories was designing the major story arch in a way where the story can continue regardless the outcomes of the individual battles. One option for your project would be writing two between-battle segway stories. For example, if Superman wins, the player would read Story A. If Superman loses, the player would read Story B. Both Story A and Story B would be written in a way where it leads directly to the next scenario.
I wish you both luck and success with your project! :)

I'm excited to have some C3G senarios. I'd like to help if that's alright. It was my favorite part of designing our first Master Set.

Yeah, I love the "choose your own adventure" type of the scenarios, and I really want to do that (With all but probably the first scenario). I loved those books, haha!
When playing through the D&D campaign, as cool as it was, when the heroes lost and that was just the end, that was pretty annoying. Considering I only have one set, and have to remake the map every time. :p I still haven't used Othkurik ever, haha!

The only problem I'll have with this so far, I think, is that C3G hasn't released Gordon yet, who would be perfect in one part :p Oh, well, it might not be done by that time, anyway, haha!

Bingo! I hate having the DnD campaigns simply end like that. As for the Choose Your Own Adventure approach, don't think the scenarios themselves have to branch. A great way of structuring it is to set the scenarios in an episodic fashion, and simply explain the results in two separate stories. Example:
Scenario One: Bank Robbery
Heroes win: "Foiled by Green Arrow's intervention, the villains decide on a new plan..."
Villains win: "Having achieved the money they needed, the villains move on to the next stage of their plan..."
Scenario Two: Kidnapping
Heroes win: "Although the heroes rescued the Senator's daughter, their plot scared the Senator enough that he was willing to give the villains what they wanted..."
Villains win: "The Senator caves in and decides to give the villains what they wanted..."
As you see, this is structured so that you don't need to rely on the outcome of the scenarios, and you can still move your plot along.
As for Commissioner Gordon... Why not simply design your own? If Balantai helps, you've got a fantastic design resource right there! When I did my Joker story, I wanted Riddler on the map in the second battle. So instead of using Balantai's custom (which is really fun, btw), I used C3G's Riddler and Sherman Davies' Poison Ivy. C3G's Alfred was a fantastic inclusion in the story, and provided my favorite moment in the entire story.

I meant to say story branching, not the actual scenarios. We're on the same page here! Though it'd be awesome to have a complete branching story that could go anyway depending on the outcome, that'd be a lot of work, haha!
Well, I could, but I did want this to be mostly a C3G project. And on top of that most of my customs suck, and then I'd want to just copy the C3G Gordon, which design I've seen because I started a playtest on him :p
If it turns out I really need a Gordon, I'll just steal one from some other good custom creator, here. ;)

The lost C3G Xmen Campaign (which may eventually get done) had a "branching affect" so that the result of a scenario would determine the next scenario, that way, each campaign would play very differently each time. Now I designed the World's Finest Campaign in a way so that it really is just several stand alone scenarios that are linked with a story.
I am not sure if you guys will like the Fan 4 campaign, as it is similar to a Dungeon Crawl in that if your character is killed, it is gone, but it does have a couple of chances of coming back, however you will have to earn those chances by completing side missions/mini games.
I hope you guys will like it, as the Campaigns are really my department and I put a lot of work into them, but if you don't like this one, hopefully I can get that X-men campaign out there some time soon. :)

I'm really looking forward to them, Griff! I just hope that the maps don't take quite as many sets, since I can't play the World's Finest games, even though I really want to, since I don't have enough of the right sets. :p

Yeah, and I don't want to hijack this thread any more, but it was one of my favorite ideas. I like how the decisions you make can affect your future outcome. I remember you begging me to show you that JPG file with the overview of how it worked, and you liked it then along with a bunch of other people. I think I will go ahead and announce my commitment to getting it in the public's hands next year. :)

If you're serious about putting scenarios in the public hands, I would love to be a part of that.
Other than the one comment from Spidey at the time, I don't think anyone noticed your comment, and I am not sure that you didn't here it from me first either, because I remember spending a lot of time on that campaign, and THEN you started showing interest and asking questions.... honestly, you didn't contribute much back in those days, so I am not sure what you are trying to prove.

HERE (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=27893&page=2)clearly you were catching up, not creating new ideas.
Now I hate the way we are trying to "prove" who did what, because C3G is a team, but I would be lying if I said that it isn't annoying when the guy who is notorious for contributing the least tries to take credit for other people's hard work.

Pyre,
I think a scenario with Doomsday would work well if you artifically upped Doomsday's life. He'd need to be playtested to ensure that he's not broken, but I'd love to see a suped up Doomsday take on the entire Justice League minus Superman. After he's weaked by the JL, a suped up Superman comes in and finishes up the battle.

WRONGGG!!!! Just kidding, that would be cool.
The biggest problem with the whole D-day story is that D-day killed Superman when Lex should have been the one to do it.
If your going to rewrite the death of Superman, which would be awesome, Then Lex should be the one to "pull the trigger" not a single note brute. :2cents:

I have the first scenario pretty much done, and I just have to finish up the rules and the map, and one more that's mostly planned out.
I have my story pretty much complete, too. I just need help with the maps and gameplay stuff. ;)
When I get to work on it more, there'll be more to discuss. This is basically just a little teaser, for now!

I love Brainiac. He is like Superman in that they are both great at going toe to toe with each other, and also taking on everyone all at once.

Does anyone want to playtest the first scenario? I've played through it a few times, but second opinions are certainly needed! I don't want to make it too public quite yet, so a private test would be good!
I'm working on the VS file now, so hopefully I'll get it done tonight, otherwise it'll be thursday.

Well I should remind you that you can in fact draft scenarios in the C3G.... you know... in case you want your "C3G Campaign" to have a C3G stamp. ;) I would love to see your ideas go through the C3G process. No pressure, just saying. :)

I had a few minutes tonight, when I should have been studying. ;) I do want to playtest for C3G, but playing the games, and writing it all up takes time (Especially the way I do it. :p ), and this scenario took like 10 minutes. :p
Well, I'd much rather use design passes on figures. Would a scenario or glyph take a different amount of points to be able to do?
And on top of that, I'm sure there are some things in the later scenarios that none of you guys would like... ;)
