:D :D So it has been brought to my attention that there is actually a day of the year dedicated specifcally to HS FINATICS, LET'S BATTLE! Dnutt99 & Sexymama are honoring this day by opening thier doors to 10 people interested for a GAMEDAY / MINI-TOURNEY.
:headbang: This is our 1st time hosting an event so we're trying to rally up some excitement from the locals. We will have a mini 10-12 player tournament PROVIDING THERE ARE AT LEAST 8 "DEFINITE" REGISTERED PLAYERS THAT ARRIVE ON GAME DAY!
PLAY TO WIN THE GRAND PRIZE CASTLE SET!
 For those interested, we live in Oakland, CA., and are gaming on Saturday, October 21st, from 12 noon and running until your're arms get numb from rolling:!:

 Players will randomly draw the name of an opponent. The chosen opponent will randomly draw a board to play on. (ALL BOARDS CAN BE VIEWED IN THE "Check the Boardz" LINK IN MY SIGNATURE SECTION.)Feel free to ask questions, and offer suggestions. Changes will only be made to boards if there seems to be a problematic theme from multiple viewers! There will be at least 2 other boards available for free play for 2+ player mayhem.
 Players are encouraged to bring dice, markers, and pre-made armies for EACH board, and any units you may want to free play with on other boards. Our units will be available for drafting BUT dnutt99/sexymama have the priveldge of drafting from this pool first! Before the game begins, players will be given 10-15 min. to select and finalize their armies.
 DICE TOWERS are highly recommended due to limited table space. Accomodations for rolling will be made on gameday if needed.

  GAMEDAY BEGINS @ 12noon to mingle. GAME PLAY BEGINS @ 12:45 - 1 pm.

 It is only 1 DAY AWAY!,..so REGISTER YES or mark pending to reserve your spot. Spots will be given to FIRST 10 DEFINITE REGISTREES.

 Any 'Scaper under the age of 18, must be brought and accompanied by an adult while attending the gameday.

REGISTER AND CHECK BACK REAL SOON! :D :D (UPDATED: 10/18/06 - 10:31pm)

Bummed I won't be able to help Oaktown represent during the national gameday. Who picked the weekend before Halloween? Non Believers I tell you!

You obviously don't know what it takes to work and ready the house for mayhem :)

There my friend, you are soooo wrong! But, I do it correctly.

At dusk on Halloween I completely decorate the house ... well, I did when I lived in SoCal. The decorations included a fog machine, a multitude of gravestones, half buried zombies digging their way out of the ground, a casket also half buried with a zombie shaking the lid attempting to free himself, a plethora of spiderwebs, rotted cloths, flying bats and spider. To top it off there was a ghost in the front window whose eyes would follow you no matter where you were on the street (think Haunted Mansion statues from Disneyland)! All of this would come down around midnight. None of the decorations were ever seen in daylight so as to keep the scariness factor entombed in the minds of children!

Some images from All Hallows Eve past:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/Malechi_HeroScape/Halloween/cryptdoor.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/Malechi_HeroScape/Halloween/beastatdoor.jpg
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/Malechi_HeroScape/Halloween/coffinzombie.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/Malechi_HeroScape/Halloween/coffintombstone.jpg

Everything you see I created, no store bought items here!

Some things that need description: The ghost in the window can be seen (Top Photo), however due to the flash the eyes cannot be seen that follow you wherever you go. The coffin faces the wrong way (it faces the door for full view when Trick-or-Treaters come to the door) so you don't see the skeletal hand shaking the lid. The Zombie's shoulders (Bottom Left Photo) roll giving the effect of it trying to free itself from the ground. The "fog" can be seen slightly (Bottom Left Photo), that's not a blur, it was turned off for most of the photography. Note that the "spiderwebs" are a little roughed up due to children freaking out and running through them by the time of the photography ...

:excited:

Now, who doesn't know Halloween and how to do it?

Nice !!!
You are a ghoul after my own cold heart. I was actually jabbing at your retired status more than anything mal :) Figured you'd hook up Halloween.

Last year I wired up a bunch of motion activated effects ... the theme was super villains. A motion sensor in the entry tripped off the black light and turn on a strobe that hit people dead in face, I added in a nice annoying buzzer for the jump. We also had the decontamination chamber ... utility room between the kitchen and the beer on the back deck ... motion triggered fog machine.

Talk about an electrocution hazard I had exposed 110V wiring everywhere .... it was fitting since I named myself Static ... I built a hand shocker into my costume

Malechi
October 9th, 2006, 03:03 PM
I always hated the "nice annoying buzzer for the jump". When I was a kid the neighbors had metal plates under the astroturf walkway, you step on it and connect the circuit which sets off a klaxon horn 3 feet away ... most who grew up there still have a mild twitch ...

So did you go and steal those tombstones off of peoples graves? :poke:

Well I love it! So, do you not decorate you house anymore?

You and Satyr are going to be my new halloween buddies :toast:
If not, you can donate what ever you like to my halloween collection. :D

Okay, Okay, back to HS. In the last tourney I saw a HS trophy, how did you get that made (if you did). I was debating about having one for our gameday.....

Man. That's real sweet creeps you got there, Mal. I always thought house decorating was too much work for one night's worth of scaring. Though I always enjoyed the freakiest house we could find as kids.

No wonder you didn't jump and scream when I pulled out the dismembered hand I had in my backyard. :?

dude - that dismembered hand was child's play stuff. :D

Seriously - I think our sons took right to using it - too bad there weren;t any uptight women or girls around where they could creep them out by using it.

Well, actually, it's great that there weren't any uptight girls around to harsh the gig, but you know what i'm sayin' :D

This is great, that you'll entertain HSers at your place, dnutt and sexymama!
We'll see what works out - 1moreheroscaper's gamestore in Tracy is a bit closer and easier for us, so we'll see.

Sexymama,

The trophy seen in the GameDay II @ HeH's House Thread was not a NorCal trophy. It is actually the SoCal Tournament Trophy. A few of the CCC snuck down to SoCal, infiltrated their tourney and WON! Thy then kidnapped said trophy to the wilds of NorCal and proceeded to tsake it out on the town to p-a-r-t-y!. It has since been returned ...

I don't remember who "made" it offhand. But, basically, it is a generic trophy base with gold sprayed Mimring attached to the top.

I must admit, I've gotten farther behind schedule for advertising, posting, and building than I ever anticipated, but if you can think of anything that may generate more interest we would greatly appreciate it! :)

Hey guys,

As far as what to bring....

food wise... give me ideas of what you like.....I don't mind doing some cooking.

drink wise....it won't be a dry campus, but I will only provide non-alcoholic beverages, however I will leave space in the fridge for anything you would like to bring and chill and get happy with. :drunk:

board wise....I don't know, Dnutt99 will have to answer that one.

Oh and Malechi, we didn't sign up because we thought it was a given, but I'll beef up the numbers and sign up anyway. Who--hoo we are up to 5 baby!! See ya Soon

Sorry for the wait everyone,...but I have finally done it! Boards are available to view, (check the link at the bottom).

HEH my friend thank you for your patience. Sexymama told me she's up to some minor cooking and is looking for people's consumption interests. We will have non-alcoholic beverages for refreshment but we'll be leaving room in the fridge for any items you may want to bring. Feel free to bring your favorite brewed or malted beverage, assuming you can handle yoursleves accordingly... Chips, cookies, candy, etc. are always welcome,...or even a salad,... :)

I'm really behind on checking my threads but should be completely up to speed by tomorrow, so if I haven't answered any pertinent questions, just hang tight or repost them.

You are welcome to bring boards or terrain for other boards and we'll find room, (there should be plenty of room after players begin to drop from their pedastals at the hands of their opponents).

OK so sexymama has just informed me of the menu. We'll actually be having burgers and sandwich fixin's! You could bring a couple bags of chips. :D

But with our confirmed +4 players coming from the CCC, I suspect that we'll be one board shy for the tourney. :? So with that said, it would be GREAT if you could supply some terrain for another board. I have a TT and another castle I haven't opened yet that would be at your disposal, or you could provide all of the terrain for the extra board. That would be great if you could accomodate, but if not no worries, I could just sit out the first round.
Let me know if that's a possibility. Other than that it looks as though we're going to have a great turnout for the event :!: Hopefully we may see a couple of extra goodies if all pans out. :D

Sounds like excellent eats, Dnutt! I think all the spaghetti sauce would've made me nervous around your HS supplies.

I can bring chips!

I'll see what I can muster up for a map. I have something already built on plywood out in the garage. It is not symmetrical. Time is a factor for me creating a new board. Here is what I have:

The Ruins of Castle Remtha:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Heroscape%20Maps/Remthacastleruins007.jpg

I'll see if there's some way to fit this in my little car. If not, I'll quick build something Friday night on a smaller piece of plywood.

dnutt99
October 19th, 2006, 03:28 PM
HEH, looks great. :D With the current number of players, 9, I was confused as to how to set up the matches, but cinsidering both me and sexymama are hosting the event I think it best that we alternate as 1 player, (hopefully making it past round 1 to ensure we can both play in the tournament). :) But it's unfair to have 2 players from the same house take 2 spots in the tourney, and it would be bad form to tip the scales like that :!: With that said I think that we have plenty of boards, BUT I would still like it if you were to bring a board anyway just to have another free play board. The boards I've created for free play are cool, (IMHO  ), but I do like the fact that the board you posted IS NOT symmetrical making for a more interesting battle. Whatever you can do will be fine with us.
Please call ahead of time for any questions or concerns you may have at this point.

Dnutt, I'm on lunch break right now. I began making a symmetrical board on a smaller piece of playwood.
I'd really like to bring the above layout, but the size is the only factor. I'll most likely need a helping hand to bring it if I do manage to figure a way to fit it in the car.

But it's unfair to have 2 players from the same house take 2 spots in the tourney, and it would be bad form to tip the scales like that :!:
I see no problem with you and Mama playing as two separate contestants. You both should play! Bring it on!

I may be able to help with that depending on the size. I drive a Pontiac Grand Prix with a fairly roomy trunk. My only concern is the transport itself and having a massive earthquake affect in the board. We may be able to swing it though.

we can have 4 games going. 3 will be 1 on 1 and 1 will have to be 3 players game. Those 4 winners then play 1 on 1 and so on.

or

we all play each other 1 time and who ever wins the most out of eight games wins, but that is a looong day of playing.

Just an idea for now.

How about ths map? I'm sure I'll knock over just about all the 1-space glaciers getting to Dnutt & Mama's place, but it should be worth the hassle.
This is a FFA board for idle players. Those 4-spaced strips of road hexes are absolutely worthless. I didn't realize that mistake till just now.

HeH,

Here a suggested change to alleviate the "worthless" 4 Road Section. It creates a 'roadblock' in the center of the map by switching the water and ice hexes with road hexes. Then only the walls on the edge of the board are useless.

Love the animation! But here was my reasoning to make that circular section of road unapproachable by a continuus road from the starting zones. Those diamond-shape snow areas on the sides of the board are the highest points on the map. I wanted to make it a chore to get there.

Oh, the rails I put on to hopefully hold the map together for the trip to Dnutt's. I put them on the back end of the snow starting zone to keep some 1-space snow in place. Then I figured what the heck, put e'm wherever I can.

Thanks for the suggestion. The animation totally helps to visualize what you were recommending.

Hmmph. Another no-show. Satyr what about MacDirk. Could he round out our numbers to an even 10?

I'm just wondering - why would you need/want 10 people?

Are you guys going more for a tournament play, or more for a free-play day?

I was under the impression that both this get-together and the Tracy one were more free play, and the Tournament would likely be at Norcal Gameday III, on Nov 18th?

Dnutt was hoping to Tourney off a castle set if the numbers were even. He's figured out another way around it, but it's always nice to have one more player there.

Sorry to bring this news a day before the event but something came up for a couple of us CCC members and it looks like I will not be able to make it, nor will preacher.

Both of us got pulled in for work issues and have to slave away this weekend (think Office Space scene at the cubicle). I will try to make it up there if I get out before 2pm.

We are still trying to send Trixar and Vu up there but have not been able to get them to confirm.

Well gosh darn. Now what?!? Dnutt, should I still bring the ice board? If it's just the 5 of us, we won't need it.
I guess it depends on who will actually make it.

Shucks. Our numbers are dwindling, I'll see if I can get a Noob to play with us if you all don't mind. Perhaps my bro-in-law or brother...anybody!!!

It seems like the Nov 18th Gameday is going to have many more people available and interested....

Just so you guys know - there have been HUGE prizes (over $400) offered at some of the Oct 21st tournaments.
It's too bad our area didn't work out for that date. :(

I'm wondering - how many NorCal people would show up for a tournament with prize support like that?

I'm just becoming aware of the possibility that maybe some people only go to play in tournaments when there is loot to be had?

Anyone have any thoughts on how prize support may affect NorCal HS event participation?

 That sucks,..hopefully we can still get a couple of CCC reps down this way  . HEH looks like we will have plenty of room for you to bring an additional player, no worries here, BRING 'EM. Unfortuantely I'm the only one I know, (besides sexymama), that plays HS or I would have rounded out the ranks.
Regardless we'll still make the best of things!
Saytr is the Tracy thing still poppin off OK? Just wondering how that was going. The thread that was started for it remained a bit stagnant, (but a lot of threads have lately).
HEH, bring the board if you'd like. If you don't feel like the hassle, no big deal. Bring ya beer n' chips everyone,...
:ponder: Maybe we can beef the tourney up to a 2 game elimination thing, or we can just knock it out fast and free-play the rest of the day.
Either way, I'm STILL :excited: about the day!

We are still trying to send Trixar and Vu up there but have not been able to get them to confirm.
 Should I PM them the location info, or has it already been passed along :?:

As far as the 18th I never expected prizes and that really sucks if it will affect the amount of people coming. It doesnt seem like someone is that big of a gamer if they only play games to win something (in my opinion).

HeH I think you should bring the board, it is to cool to not play on. If it is to much of a hassle we may not need it, but I would like to play on it.

It was to be a surprise for all those who attended, but it appears we're losing folks fast. Can I post this just to boost attendance? Worth a try.

That's freakin' 8 games of Heroscape!

AND
I met four new 'Scapin' faces. Awesome day indeed. Nothing but 'Scaping, drinking, eating, and 'Scaping.

This was an excellent move by Mal. With Theracus, he flew Guilty into the narrow opening on the castle's top to activate the catle's door, swinging it shut into Sexymama's advancing Sacred Bad force. It was a like a scene out of a great fantasy action flick. Great move, but my Braxas caught wind of the deed and fired down on Guilty in an attempt to kill him - 19!!!!

Brunak__________NGS

Malechi's G'nators command the highest point on the map while HEH's G'nators make their way up. At this point Raelin had been taken out by Mal's monkeys. (Even Mal's Nakitas seemed to pelt HEH's Nakitas from a nice vantage point. - Out of shot.)

Malechi taking advantage of the terrain with Nerak. The silly monkies hung out next to glaciers all game, the EOV weren't significant enough for me to remember ANYTHING that they did, Guilty did move at least once, and that last AE would probably have run out of ammo before depleting the rest of Malechi's forces.

The Final Post : TRIUMPH TOWER.
This was the board :!: This game would finalize the entire days events and top us off at 12 complete hours of solid Scapin'. If you look at the clock you can see we got this one going at about 10:35p.m. Everyone was eager to play the last game, even Malechi who had an exhausting, almost 2 hour, drive ahead of him. You're the man Mal,...
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/GROUP_time.jpg
The game was originally set up for 4 players. But as the day rolled into the evening, which rolled into the night, on it's way to the early morning, it was obvious that not everyone would be able to play. Heretic suggested converting the starting positions to allow an additional 2 players to join in. It was a fast configuration putting land tiles all on top of water, snow, and anything else just to make it work.
THANX HERETIC,...GREAT IDEA! :D Nice nose,... it's quite,...Jandarific!

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt031.jpg
Original setup for this scenario was 4 players with 450 point armies to get as many units inside the castle, and the player with the most figs after 10 rounds would win. We quickly changed the number of rounds to 5, (which after the first round became 3 :!: ). Sexymama had some flyers and a lot of ground forces -- Heretic had a few more flyers and a few ground troops to support -- Malechi whipped out the orc horde leading with, (who else), Krug -- Dnutt99 grabbed Drones x3 and some Minions -- The Man With 2 Names pulled Gladiatrons, Blastatrons, MacDirk Warriors, and a Knight, (who we later found out was supposed to be Sir Denrick,...he's still a noobie :D ) --- HEH rolled with only BRAXAS & NILFHEIM.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle_setup.jpg
I forget who went first, but I do know that HEH flew right into the castle with Nilfheim, and followed him with Braxas on the following turn. Malechi was the first to enter, (and SUCCESSFULLY), block the door with Krug.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt038.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt035-1.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt034.jpg
On her second turn Sexymama activated the Massive Curse, (Great suggestion HEH. ) Only two figures were destroyed, but with Sexymama, Malechi, and HEH inside the walls, (and The Man With 2 Names fighting his way in), it was time for me to restrategize my move!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt033.jpg
Braxas and Nilfheim were my biggest threat going over the top. It was apparent that I wouldn't be able to do anything at the door on my side. I think Sexymama had moved her flyers inside, and had begun to move out the ground troops.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt036.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle-2.jpg
My minions were up top with the dragons and attacked hopefully destroying one,... but they didn't. Braxas spit acid all over them and left them in a big purple puddle to be mopped up later. ALL 3 WENT DOWN WITH THE ONE ATTACK! Braxas continued to pee acid rain on the troops below who were still fighting Krug for entry. Sexymama was the next to control the door on the other side with some Sacred Banders.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt039.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle-5.jpg
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle-3.jpg
All in all gameplay was rushed but consistent with the current scenario,... a mad dash inside! By this point Braxas and Nilheim were still inside and commanding the upper level taking out anyone in their sight quite easily! Krug was almost dead receiving fire from TMW2N Blastatrons. Sexymama had at least 2 figs up top, and 1 on the lower level. Heretic remained pretty quiet during the whole ordeal silently plotting. :stir: But it was this MEGA move that had everyine impressed,...
Malechi flew over the top, down to the first level, carrying Guilty, He closed and locked both doors and killed the Sacred Bander who had control of Sexymama's door at the time. GREAT STUFF MAL!!!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/Dnutt/10_22_06NatlHeroscapedayDNutt042.jpg
My son Devon snapped this one. A perfect display HS at its finest. :D
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/marylee81/GAMEDAY_10_21_2006/Castle-4.jpg
OK,... in the end,... (forgive me it was late and a while ago since this all happened!),... Sexymama managed to move a lot of Sacred Banders to the door which at this point she had gotten control of. TMW2N had his ENTIRE army OUTSIDE of the castle. Malechi having only 2 figs inside had automatically lost after his turn was over. HEH also having both dragons in play, but lacking the numbers needed to win pulled out. Dnutt99 made a last ditch effort to kill off some Sacred Banders at their door having nothing else to do. It would be HERETIC who would swoop in for the win having 3 figs inside at the end of the round vs. Sexymama's 2! That'll teach her to give away tactical info at the most crucial moment in the game,... :footinmouth:

I wish we could've gotten this game going a little sooner if I had realized how much fun it was going to be!
I'd like to see what else I could have done with Braxas. Some of the attractiveness for me in taking the two dragons - mobility with two cards and insane power (especially Acid Breath).

Another army That would have been cool would have been Braxas and four sets of Deathreavers!!!
Send the roborodents in with disengage as quickly as possible in to the castle and let folks attack them. Keep moving 2 further, deeper, higher up into the castle.

Man, that was a fun game. Good stuff for sure.
