View Full Version : NHSD-Northeast HEROSCAPE ROYAL RUMBLE 10/16-Updated!!!

Onacara
August 29th, 2010, 04:22 PM
PLACE Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Woonsocket, Rhode Island
1409 Park Avenue, Woonsocket, RI 02895

TIME: 11:00-6:00pm...doors open early for set-up

The entire day will be played in the Rolling Rumble style but will include a Main Event (see below)

THE MAIN EVENT---HEROSCAPE ROYAL RUMBLE

This will be a single elimination event.

All players will draw a number to start the day.

Players 1-16 will be paired off in the center ring (8 of 9 maps)

Once you win your match you move to the EMPTY MAP and the next player in number order enters the ring.

Play continues until there is only 1 player left in the Ring and they win the Championship Belt.

If you have to show up late and miss the number drawing for the Royal Rumble you will have to play with 450 points instead.

Specifics:

ARMY: 475 point armies/24 start zone spaces (players in the ROYAL RUMBLE use the same army for the entire event) Players can use as many different 475 point armies for the Rolling Rumble.

ROUNDS: Once your game ends you can immediately move onto a new game with a new opponent. There is no time limit for the Rolling Rumble. For the ROYAL RUMBLE though there will be a 50 minute MAX time limit for a game. If your game ends before the 50 minute mark you will move right on to your next opponent provided you win. If your game ends on time the player with the most points left on the board (fractional scoring) scores the win and moves on.

PRIZES: There will be a prize for the winner of THE ROYAL RUMBLE. All other prizes will be given out based on winning percentage for the day. If you bring a prize for the prize table then you can take a prize from the prize table. Prizes do no need to be HEROSCAPE related but should be something the players would want to win (i.e. board games (new or used))

All extra prizes will be given out via a raffle (everyone in attendance will receive a ticket for the door prize raffle)

Do you have a place yet. You should have it at the Game keeper. I will 99.9% be going. Anywhere else its a maybe.

Sounds great. What happens if you're in the middle of a rolling rumble game, and your royal rumble number gets called?

I will be coordinating it so we dont have a problem...or at least have a minimal delay.

If it's within about 2hrs of RI you can count me in. (maybe even longer)

Play continues until there is only 1 player left in the Ring and they win the Championship Belt. What happens if we reach the end of the day and there is still several games going on?

This is very unlikely unless we get a HUGE crowd..and if the projections are for larger number of people than i am predicting then we will just start with more people in the ring to start things off.

Sounds like a solid format. I guess now all we need are the formalities. Start time, End time, location etc.

I still think it would be best to do a central venue...like Massachussetts or something...

I love the format, it's really cool.

Bengi and Darkmage...can you both find out about availability of your respective event venues?

Anyone else who wants to look into a venue that meets our needs is more than welcome....

Must be enough space for 30-60 people.
Must be available to us fairly early (9am or earlier) and relatively late (8pm-ish)
Must be close enough for the most people to get to...remember the bulk of our regulars are in the Western Mass/ RI area.
The space must be FREE...or relatively free (i.e. a church that asks for a donation is fine) we don't want to have to charge people to come in on top of bringing prizes especially if the day is already costing them money (i.e. gas)
Must be near food if at all possible.

I vote The Game Keeper. My dad dose not mind the drive there.

My vote would still be somewhere in Mass, as it is the most central, but if I have to choose between the 2 venues I'd say the Church since it would be a familiar drive for me (not that I'm driving).

Is there anyone in the Worcester or Springfield area with any connections? I'd even volunteer to throw some extra money at the problem if we can get a good venue.

I can try and get the church in RI again, but it makes for 3 consecutive events within 5 miles of each other. I also will not be available to help set up for any of the fall events as I'm coaching my sons soccer games on Saturday mornings. It may be awkward to book the church without a regular representative.

Do we have a location?

Just one note on the Royal Rumble itself....we will draw numbers for everyone but only I will know what number people have (don't tell others what number you have). Not that I think it will happen BUT...I don't want someone turtling for a few minutes just so they don't have to face the next person into the ring.

Also since there is no set start time/end time..I am going to institute a 25 point army penalty for those showing up after the original number drawing. The 25 point penalty only applies for the Main Event...you can still play the full 475 for any of the regular ruble games.

Just to be sure I understand this correctly:

So for the Royal Rumble you can only play one army that is 475pts the whole time, unless your not in the initial drawing. Which means that same army has to also be playable at 450pts right?

All the regular games for the regular Rolling Rumble are 475pts all the time, and you can swap out for different armies all the time?

Sorta kinda...If you are there for the initial draw of numbers and you are not part of the starting 16 then you play the 475 point army. If you show up a half hour late you play the Royal Rumble only with 450 points.

No split start zones is my only request. Its not that i dont like them (well i dont) as mch as the fact that they can really change the game and army selection if you unluckily draw it.

No sorry, I only made custom tiles not figs. I had used about 6 false sets at the rampage. Only a handful of players seemed to notice though. Which was fine by me because it tells me they do a good job. Or at least they aren't s bad that anyone complained. heh.

This isn't a vote for any maps (I'm planning on attending a NHSD event a little closer than NY ;)), but both of Ronin's maps (Fire & Bone and Hot Gates) are great. They both have a fairly small footprint, so initial movement and OM placement is very important, and you get into the action fast. You don't get 2 or 3 rounds to slowly position and entrench your units; you have to make a decision and go for it.

I was just looking to schedule somethign else for the evening this day and realized there is no start or end times listed? I know it is "rolling rumble" format so the time is a little loose, but it would be good to at least know when this "officially" start, and when we expect to wrap things up.

We have word on some additional Prize Support than that coming from WOTC.

Also...we need to make a donation to the Church for letting us use the space so I am asking for everyone over the age of 13 to throw in a couple of bucks to the cause.

There will be a scheduled lunch break for those still in the Royal Rumble...once you are knocked out of the main event you can go eat whenever you like.

Its coming soon....who else is excited?

nyphot and his wife cant make it

Taebelwalker and Kathy are going to the event in LI

The crew from UConn (there are usually 2 or 3 of them) dont post on the boards anymore

arp's posse isnt coming (as far as i know)

There were the guys from MA (TimRedden and friends) who came to the last 2 NHSDs but I havent seen them on here in a while.

RobertDD hasnt been to an event in quite some time.

I was hoping that some more of the guys from the Beantown group we havent seen in awhile (i.e. Pilgrim and BTL Matt) would make it out.

Whatever that is...
Anyways, I'm still stuck on which armies to bring. I'm pretty sure about my army for the Ring, but I have no other armies for casual play.

Also, is the Ring the only way we are determining standings? Is everything outside the ring just casual?

The Royal Rumble piece doesn't determine standings, just a winner (and, I guess, 30-odd losers).

As I understand it, the standings are generated from all games played that day, both in and out of the Royal Rumble ring. So the winner of the Royal Rumble might not place very highly overall and someone who loses their first game in the ring still has a good shot at first place.

I think I'm pretty settled on armies:

Krug: 120
Arrow Gruts x4: 160
Swog Riders x4: 100
Raelin (RotV): 80
Isamu: 10
Total: 470pts, 24 hexes.

Iron Golem: 100
Nakita Agents: 120
Gorillinators x2: 180
James Murphy: 75
Total: 475pts, 12 hexes.

Kurrok: 120
Fire/Earth Elementals x5: 175
Air/Water Elementals x6: 180
Total: 475pts, 12 hexes.

Su-Bak-Na: 160
Drones x4: 200
Dividers x2: 100
Isamu: 10
Total: 470pts, 21 hexes.

I don't know which I'll use for the Royal Rumble yet. The second or third are most likely at the moment, but I'll probably decide at the time.

Yes..also if you draw a number not in the starting 16 you will play standard Rolling Rumble until yo have to enter the ring. (I have it all worked out...sorta LOL )

You record for the entire day counts toward prize table picking...the winner of the Royal Rumble will get an extra prize.

As I am terrible , and usually place close to last at every tournament I play/host, prize selection is not a big issue with me as I am content to not get one when I dont bring one. But does this policy pertain to the prize support that WotC is providing as well?

Good event, fun game day. Best part was the two games I won playing Othkurik 2x GSW and 4xMARRO DRUGDE. Yes 4x Marro Druge that I could not have won either game without and did a solid 90% of the gametime on either game. 1st game Otkurick was beaten to a pulp by Master Woo and the clan, by LoboRocket. The second game Othkuric closed the match by moving into position and landing a 7 die attack on Q9. Other than those brief times he never so much as ruffled his scales. Good game day.

I'll see you next time Cleon! And then the Rats will go down!

I had a great time and want to thank Onacara for running a great tournament. I played many games against familiar and not-so familiar foes. I defeated Ollie for the first time and although I was knocked out of the ring after the first match, I had a blast.

Maybe you will design a Ratcatcher 2.0 for next time? :p

The event was awesome. Seeing the new figs in person was a big pleasure. I really wanted to see Siege - one of my favorites in this wave - and the Mezzo's look sick in person! Thanks for holding it Onacara, thanks for bringing the new figs guru and ninja, congrats Bengi (and I Like Pi), thank you's to my opponents, and thanks all for showing up to support NHSD in the Northeast!

It was cool to see the brothers, I Like Pi and SuperEsenwein make it to the finals and face each other to determine who went on to the Championship. theGuru made it to the finals vs. Bengi with an intense x7 Viper build. The championship was between an Arrow Grut army (Bengi) and a Tagawa Samurai Archers army (I Like Pi). SE had Stingers with Dwarves. All neat armies to make up the top 4, guys; congrats!

I took a bunch of footage, a lot of which is the championship. The rest: Heroscape goodness. 8). I won't be able to get these vids up until sometime next week, hopefully before the weekend.

Edit: my army was Nilf, Hydra, Rats x3, MW.

Won a FotA.

I agree. Much of DnD has cool sculpts. ILP just opened the hero pack of D2 that he won, and Shurrak (I hope I spelled that right) has an awesome sculpt. Can't wait to see moltenclaw....

When you guys get the actual standings (not including friendlies), could you post them in the results thread? That would be much appreciated.

There really weren't any friendlies (well except for the couple of games played after the prizes were handed out.) But the games outside of the "Main Event" allowed people to play with different armies in each game.

So do you know the standings for the main event, or did you just count everything?

Thanks Onacara for putting this together. It was an great event, as always. Thanks to the sponsors and others getting all the extra neat stuff on the prize table too.

I'm very happy with my Ogre Pulveriser! In an after-tournament game with Bengi he took out a few Greenscales (and got "counterstruck" by one). Definitely a fun figure.

I love the use of the Edit line, it and the title are great way to sneak little things in here and there.

7 attack can't pierce 6 defense, don't you know that?

Actually, If I were to play 475 points now, I'd play
DW7K
DW8K
DW9K

Thanks Onacara for a great event and thanks everyone for some really great battles..... I was able to just barely beat one army of wyrmlings while getting thrashed by another army of wymlings, I got clobbered by Master Woo and his Shaolin Monks but I beat Kurrok and his Elementals. In a battle against Krug and two dragons, my two little wymlings took out the big dragons but Krug eventually did me in. When I got my chance in the royal rumble I got hit so hard I didn't even see what Barry hit me with. Soon the zombies kept coming back to life and clobbered me again but the next battle agains't a couple of Werewolfs I was able to squeek in a victory (it might have been because I misused my melee defense......SORRY Ninja)

Anyway.... It was an awesome day and I guess it's time for me to stop using the excuse I'm a newb and build a better army.

It's truly an honor to battle with such a great group of people. I can't wait for the next gathering.

thanks,

Mike

When you use Ornak to go with 9k, you blast away everything next to 7k, and then rush him next to Q9 and suicide
