A rocket launching platform? Man, if that isn't screaming for a scenario! I see Superman and Green Lantern trying to stop a nuclear missile launch ... reminds me of the aftermath of the Destruction of Coast City when Supes had just resurrected.

Now that I have 2x FotA, I'll have to try this out. Looks good. (Will have to proxy tiles for the Marvel set because I don't have that, but shouldn't be a big problem)

They run for 13 dollars in my area.

Well, there's pretty much NO Scape in my area, so outside of internet deals, I'm sunk! :p

Ah, crap. Those prices look good, but when shipping is about as much as the base cost, you're really not saving much of anything.

You'll need to order more 'scape to make it worth it! :)

Yeah, that's no go this month. Too many comic books in the plans ... and Heroclix ... and a card printing run for C3G ...

Yeah, I'm getting pretty desperate for a second FotA myself... only $25 at TrollandToad, which isn't a bad price at all.

Love the map, though. Simple, but effective; leaves the important bits to the imagination.

Update: I decided to open up the lower platform a bit more so you can reach in there and move figures. I removed three columns near the ladders.

Anyone have any suggestions for improvements?

I am glad to have a 3 player map in our future arsenal. That is something that my group could certainly use.

My daughter and I built this for a future superscape game with my wife. :)

I took the columns off on the physical build and it's still very solid. If there aren't any comments on changing things, I'll propose this to be released as a C3G casual map in the morning. (I'm assuming competitive won't work because it's for 3 players.)

IAmBatman

I know the FotA price discussion is over a week old, but I just found this thread, so...
Sci-Fi Genre (http://www.scifigenre.com/itemDetailPhoto.aspx?sid=WSONOU1UVMNI1NR&nItemID=60214&nJustAddedID=60214&nAddedType=1) has the castle sets for $10.40 plus shipping. Shipping to my zip was $8.56 for a total of $18.96.

Love the battle field!

Sorry Quozl, I have looked at it & can't find anything wrong. It's a bit disappointing that it's 2 FotA and you are going to have all those extra pieces not used. I mean if you swapped the inside end walls with straight walls then it's only 1x 7 piece hex & 20 ladder over the one set requirement. So close but so far. So is there something else that could be done with the extra castle pieces, like more LOS blockers or something? If not you can still have my yea as we do need some 3 player maps but I do feel it's a bit boring out in the fields area. Anyway have a think & if you can do something with it, then great. If not here's my YEA.

Cheers

Yeah, it really only needs one castle set and extra set of ladders. I guess I could put uncapped pillars on the map but I just don't have enough ladders for more structures.

P.S. It looks really cool setup on our table.

quozl
September 8th, 2010, 02:39 PM
I played around with adding some uncapped pillars but I think they take away from the look of the map aren't really necessary. Also, the 2nd castle set is needed for the castle "roof pieces" anyway, even without the need for all the ladders.

I'm going to go ahead and propose this be accepted as a competitive map.

Taeblewalker
September 8th, 2010, 03:52 PM
Yea. I didn't see any need for improvements in the open areas; they seem just fine with the focus on the central area.

I've actually been thinking about this map as a 2-player map, and I can see the 3rd section being used for a scenario objective. For example, place a glyph on the far end of the map, which will be used to launch the rocket. One player has to occupy the glyph for a certain number of consecutive rounds, while the other side tries to prevent it. :)

Another one of those maps that triggers ideas to try.

That does sound cool but like in good comics stories, the heroes need to be in both places at once: the control glyph and the rocket.

I'll have to talk it over with my daughter. I love working with a creative 9-year-old! :D

This is a simple, quick, and elegant build. Players have plenty of room to maneuver around, under, and over the structure. Being only two levels high gives non-fliers a fair shot.

And I just noticed I used rock instead of asphalt. Quick to fix, but I'm not taking more pics, so use your imagination! :)

Edit: Ok, I had to fix it and take another pic.

I was going to say something!

Thanks for building this and the great comments! I hope you have fun playing on it.

Now that's an official C3G competitive map, I'll be doing some Kilowog playtests on it tonight and this weekend.

Yes, I definitely will be playing a game on this. But I'm going to go back and take some more pictures and replace them in the above post. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and this does look better with asphalt.

Edit: Pictures should be correct, plus I've added some additional notes. I've been dying to demonstrate line of sight changes with and without battlements.

I played this map with Balantai's customs. Battle report is here (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showpost.php?p=1201851&postcount=1151).

Yep I somehow skipped over the level 22 with the 1 hex pieces. But there weren't any start zones on the hsc. Post a new hsc with the sz's & I'll amend.

It looks like Protectors, dragons and other ranged figures that could be carried onto the platform will make this map unbalanced.

Possibly. But there's no battlements, making LOS a little harder, and if units can get under the platform, they're pretty much safe.

This would not be good as a Warzones of Valhalla map at all. Non-flying melee would be horrible on this map.

Maybe the WoV have a section in which you can discuss potential candidates and if they don't, you could create one. ;)

Played a great game on this map the other day. It was me with all 3 event hero's vs 2 friends of mine. I had close to twice their points but alas 3 order markers vs their 6 and I was doomed. Was a blast rolling for erase for existence like 10 times each round. If my d20 wasn't so cold it would have been closer match.

quozl
July 26th, 2011, 12:24 PM
Sounds awesome! From playing a few 2 vs. 1 games, I give each of the 2 players 1/3 of the points that the 3rd player has. So it would be 500 points + 500 points vs. 1500 points. That seems to balance out the order markers pretty well.
