Ideas/recommendations for format, and maps welcome, or any other comments about the event.

If you cant make this NHSD event, dont worry. Spidysox is holding an NHSD event the week after NHSD....that would be the 23rd. Here is a link to his thread. Eastern PA Scapers NHSD Event (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=31774). Hope that helps.

NOTE: We need 16 people to get prize support from WotC.

Please put Sensei of Samurai and myself down as a maybe. There are a few other tournaments during this time that I was thinking about attending, but my parents are probably going to frown on too many.

Since there are shorter rounds, I would suggest doing a smaller army point value. My brother just said "450 pts, squads only", but personally, I don't like that. Maybe a variant of the format Clan did a while ago? He did 450 pt. armies, 3 players per map.

Then again, Dragon Wars are always fun.

General Wars?

Okay, I'm done.

Ok, I just confirmed the location for the event. It is going to be held at

Game Time Hobbies
1181 East Landis Ave.
Vineland, NJ 08360

He opens his store at noon, so we will start map building at noon, and hopefully start playing by 12:45/1:00.

Also, when I buy some prizes from the hobby shop, what would be the prefered wave?? Right now it looks like we will be buy at least two waves. So what two would you like to see??

Thats all for now.

I'm sadly going to have to end up saying no to this tourny... :(

I was asked to *maybe* do a demo that day (for HS) at my FLGS. Possibly. But its easier to say no now, then have to wait.

That sounds like a strange request - in the past we each brought a ten dollar item for the prize table ...OR... the prizes were Gift Certificates from the store that we were playing in to thank them for allowing us to use the space. I did not know that there was still a variety of Waves available. Well if you must know my preference (even though I don't ever expect to win one of these tournaments, haha) I could always use more ZOMBIES or Shades and Heavy Orks.

DragonSlayer2
August 21st, 2010, 07:48 AM
Yea it is kind of odd, but seeing how he is a distributor he can get almost any wave. So I was going to see which ones you guys wanted and then what he had. Then try to see what we could work out.

Well, I dont know if he does gift cards yet seeing how he opened not to long ago (I think) He requested that we either pay some money to use the space, or buy items for the prizes table from him. If we buy prizes from him he will let us use the space with no extra charge. (and I am not going to argue that)

So it might be a little odd, but thats how we are helping him. He requested that we buy prizes from him.

Updated first post.

mikelizzio
August 23rd, 2010, 06:20 PM
You should double check with him to see if he has gift cards. Buying those would be just as good for him as buying prizes, and would be more flexible for us.

And I see you already have me down as a maybe. That's fine. I'll do my best to attend, and will have a more definite answer as the date gets closer.

NightSwipe
August 23rd, 2010, 11:52 PM
Just noticed you updated the format section on the first post. A few questions:

1. An ally means 2 vs 2, 1000 point army vs 1000 point army?
2. If yes to #1, do you choose your partners?
3. If yes to #1, do both partners need the same general?

DragonSlayer2
August 24th, 2010, 10:00 AM
Instead of having just one general in a 500 point army, you can have two generals. So any two generals to a 500 point army.

So its like normal scape 1v1 both of you playing an army. However the army must be general specific, but you are allowed to draft in a second ally. So its any two generals that equal 500 points. for instance my army of 500 points could be made up of utgar and einar, jandar and ullar, ect. Any two generals.

Does that answer your question??

Welcome to the threads Toa. I am honored to have your first post on my thread. Does this mean you and your brother are coming?? (Do I know you....this friend of mine loves the toa and might just use it a his Heroscapers name.)

That is a good point that this format could discourage newer players, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be a good idea.

One idea, is you could borrow some guys from one of the people attending the event. (I believe most of us would be more then willing to help)

General specific tournaments are some of the most fun that you can play. You tend to have more thematically fun armies (all vampires, all zombies, all agents, all knights, all samurai etc...) that just are a lot of fun to play that don't always see the light of day in a mixed event. Also, general specific breaks up some of the power combos that are dominant in tournament play. Stuff like Q9, Raelin and Rats. Hope that sheds some light on the reason for general specific.

Also, you would be surprised as to how good an army can be made even from a relatively small collection. People have competed in events with just master set units and fared very well. And as DS2 mentioned earlier, the Scapers community is a very giving one, if you would want to borrow some stuff I am more than sure that there would be people there to help you out (although I completely understand your point that it is more fun to win with your own stuff).

I hope you don't mind that I answered this question on your thread DS2, I was just browsing to see how things are coming for you. It looks like things are going good and you should have a nice turnout.

DragonSlayer2
September 5th, 2010, 06:11 PM

DS2 ~
You can count on me for a map or two, as long as I can download the instructions from the BoV files section. Just let me know which ones. I'm already familiar with Jungle Wall, but I haven't check out (or even heard of) the other one until now.

Toa ~
Welcome to the forums, hope to meet you at this or some other event. I usually get carried away and build five or ten different armies that all fit the format with a last minute decision which one to use [*NOT RECCOMENDED]. You are welcome to borrow one of mine or just certain figures if you prefer. You can post here what you have and ask for suggestions - this group loves having a good debate about the multitude of possible HS combinations.

Please put me down as a maybe. If i come it will be the first tournament for me. Two questions:
1: Swiss style?
2: Ok just for noob understanding, we can pre-draft a 500 point army from any two generals but no more than two? I.E. Jandar and Utgar but no one else?

DragonSlayer2
September 15th, 2010, 04:22 PM
Well if you can make it I promise you will have fun.

Swiss-style is a format that alows you to keep playing even if you lose a match or two. How it works is it keeps track of your win/lose (w/l) ratio and how many points you have earned. (points are earned by eliminating opponents figures.) So on our day a 5-0 with 2500points would be a perfect win. However with this layout, you can be 4-1 or sometimes 3-2 as long as no one ranks higher with w/l ratio and points.

2.)yes, any combinations of two generals. (jandar/utagar, jandar/ullar, jandar/ect, ect/ect.)

DragonSlayer2

PS: does anyone know the # possible combinations of generals. I forget the formula for finding that out. (I could always go get my old math books out I guess)

clancampbell
September 15th, 2010, 04:42 PM

HA-HA... not with that new General Etc. ( "Etc?" I thought I read recently that his name was going to be Vakrill or Rakvill or something like that? )

Johngee

Rychean has posted a thread about receiving WotC support for any Heroscape events on NHSD. The event has to have a minimum of 16 attendees to qualify. It would be great if we could get this support, so if you are a possible attendee and now know you can come it may benefit us to confirm your attendance.

DragonSlayer2
September 17th, 2010, 08:04 PM
Northgate is correct, we need 16 people to qualify. As for the other sites that have supported my event in the past usually ask for at least 10 people. So the sooner we have confirmations, the sooner I can start writing people for prize support.

Thanks for the update Northgate.

I just got an update for prize support. It would appear that we are going to be getting 3 master sets from WotC along with one Wave. I dont know what the wave is, but its not D3. Thats all I was told.....hope you guys enjoy the info.

Also, along with prizes it appears that my store will be getting 3 cases/wave of whatever he can get his hands on. He said he would see if he could find some rare waves, but if he cant he will probably order a mixture of wave 1, 11, & 12

So total number of prizes is 19 = the custom items from millermixture. Still waiting to hear back from some stores that I also asked to sponsor our event.

Also, if any of you have something you would like to throw into the prize pool please send me an PM, and we can work something out.

In theory - I like the idea, but can also see Tao point about individual (Unique and Uncommon Hero ) characters, so I have to agree with Fallow (see below), that for a tournament (especially on NHSD) we shoul keep the prize packages unopened.

However, at some future event - more like a casual game day than a bonafide tourney - maybe we sould reconsider this concept and take it one step further: i.e. as prizes we could all bring two or three "units" (figures with their cards of course) in zip lock bags, instead of sealed blister packs, which are so hard to find these days. That way we can get rid of some of the older extras that we don't want in exchange for maybe something different that we 've been trying to find. And afterward we can still freely trade with one another for what we really wanted. ~~~lol~~~
um quick question, i was building the failed negotiations map, and the large tree dosent seem to fit... not sure what to do
Toa ~ don't get crazy over the BOV instructions, no one is going to check your accuracy and grade you for attention to detail. I've found a lot of minor "errors" in the Dowloads (especially if you don't have a color printer). The designers try to accurately depict what CAN be built with ONLY what's in the sets they reference using. BUT the primary necessity of a BOV for tournament use is that it be somewhat SYMETRICAL so that players don't feel that playing one side or the other gives an advantage to that person (i.e. access to the high-ground or road network). So feel free to "tweak" it just a little, if you need to "fit" something in. But first back track what you've already done, because it's easy to miss-align a hex early on and that throws your whole creation off balance.
If we get any more people we will need more maps :D
I just built "Thorgrim's Crossing" last night and have the "Swamp Wall" pieces in a separate box along with the tiles for "Quasatch Playground" or "Feylund Fountain" (because I was too lazy to separate them after the last tournament in Pitman)... soooo I will be bringing at least three official BoV Maps.
DragonSlayer2-My thought would be to keep it fair and simple the players should choose unopened packs. We can always trade after.
Hey Johngee! Maybe we should get LoEHS T-shirts or pins to wear to these events!
That's a GRRREAT IDEA my friend, but will we have to get approval from Jesper and the rest of the gentlemen in the lounge? Also will we have to maintain the "Defeated by Xanth" caveat in fine print below the logo?

Just found out what waves we will be having for prizes. Wave 1, 8, & 11 from my hobby shop (who is over priced) wave 12 from WotC.

Also, if anyone has anything that they would like to put on the prize table please do so. It will be greatly appreciated by someone I am sure. (I would like to see something from wave 2-4 :) )

LOL - keep dreaming... good luck trying to find any of those that are still unopened, even on eBay at out rageous prices; although individual units do show up occassionally, if you're willing to go through the bidding process. And oh bye the way... NO, you can not put your little sister on the prize table and hope that someone esle will take her home with them ... just kidding; - D

Having a blast coming up with an army for this tournament. But as usual, I'm still undecided. I may have found a build I like that uses ONLY heroes, as crazy as that sounds in the world of SquadScape. A little more playtesting tonight and I'll be good to go.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Have fun, all. I'll be looking for the post tourney thread, as usual.

As you're packing up your stuff tomorrow afternoon remember we have even *more* NHSD prize goodies at our event coming up on November 7 in Maryland, just below Baltimore right off I 95. The link is in the sig...

Have fun, all.

Milkelizzio: I am actually doing the same thing.....well I have one squad. I dont know how good it will do, but it will be fun to play.

DaddyScapper: Thanks...Ill try to have fun as I claim the Tom Lynch rule (now I have to go find some wood) I dont think I will be able to make that event. I have other things going on.

On a side note, how should we give out prizes.....I think we have about 31 items total. (11/12 of those items are custom tiles, dice tray, and fig) Should I work it out so everyone gets something or just the top ___ players get it??

Also, just packed up all my stuff. Have to buy drinks and snacks tonight.....and starting zone markers/stickers. (I am going to guess Johngee already has name tags :D )

Then off to visit my nieces B-day party before I slip away and run an amazing NHSD event.

I remember last time you had the first place player pick a prize, then 2nd place player picked, down the list so everyone got something. Then back to the top of the list and repeat.

Everyone got at least 2, some 3 prizes. It was great-lets do it again.

I agree with Fallow. It would be great if everyone got 1 or 2 items, and the top players came home with 3!

Oh I forgot all about the custom tiles that you mentioned early on -- hmm, they looked pretty cool and I 'd love to get a couple. I also have a couple custom tiles (6x I think? - 2x 1-hex, 2x 2-hex, 2x 3-hex) that I was going to offer up as one of the prizes, but why not split them up so several peeps can each get one. How many players total are you expecting vs. how many prizes are on hand? And does offering a prize substitute for paying the entry fee?
Also, just packed up all my stuff. Have to buy drinks and snacks tonight.....and starting zone markers/stickers. (I am going to guess Johngee already has name tags :D )
LOL...Yup... I've got the NAME TAGS, if I can remember to bring them, hehehe.

What is this "PLAY TESTING" that everyone is talking about? I just grab my calculator and start throwing units in a bag until it adds up to the magic number...haha! But I'm currently torn between going with:
1. Cyprien, Sonya, RotV-Raelin, 2x Utgar's Minions squads; or
2. Major-Q9, Major-Q10, Heirloom, and 2x Deathreaver squads; or
3. 2x Iron Golem and 3x MircoCorp Agent squads; or
4. 3x Hydras, and 2x Mohican River Tribe squads; or
5. 4x Wyverns, 2x Fyorlag Spider squads, and Marcu Essenwhine.
Any comments or suggestions? That "with one ally" thing was only a suggestion, not a requirement...right?

DS2 ~
Thanks for hosting a fantastic event. I had a GRRRREAT TIME! I think I even placed in the top half instead of the bottom half this time...haha. It's all for fun and fun for all. I hope to post something in the Post -Tourny thread later this evening. How about you posting the standings and final scores for us? Thanks again.
