GenCon Travel Reports

[Revdyer]

This thread is here for those who are driving, flying, taking a plane, or walking to GenCon. This is the place to report your travels, adventures, over-night stays, and invitations for meetings en route. Bus riders are also welcome to complain.

I'll be leaving Little Rock on Tuesday morning and planning to stay at the Motel 6 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Anyone on that route that wants a ride or wants to wave as I go by or anything like that, let me know.

I'm waking up bright and early on Thursday morning, leaving at 8:00 for Indy, and probably getting there and being ready at 9:30. Nothing super exciting.

I'm going to be flying out Thursday morning. If anyone wants to make a really big sign that I could see somewhere between New England and Indy, feel free. :)

I'm flying into Indy on Wed. and will arrive sometime near 7pm.

I will make a thread reporting to everyone here who are eagerly waiting to hear GenCon news. I'm super stoked to report my whole trip through video and pictures to all. I'll try to capture the ins and outs of as much as I can get.

I'll be leaving sometime Wednesday afternoon. About 15-20 minutes later, I'll be at the staging area hoping to get a place at the loading/unloading dock.

Also, with Cleon's and RevDyer's blogs/posts maybe we won't need my annual Gencon posting ;)

Don't depend on me to be posting anything but the personal stuff especially interesting to me. Cleon will be a better source for real Gencon news that my blog.

:). I'm definitely down for being the source. I'm not too worried about filming and taking pics of anything Heroscape or Summoner Wars (I'm thinking about splitting the Summoner Wars to truth's site, But I'll post it here and there). I'm just worried about how quick I'll be to posting it here. I'm aiming for every night after I leave the Con each day. Getting it all on my laptop, uploading to Photobucket, posting from Photobucket, uploading to youtube, linking, and writing a lot of thoughts and cool info will be alot, but hey, that's what GenCon's all about. I'll start filming Tuesday. :o.

My other worry is getting to Dealer's Hall for the Heroscape (and SW) booth because it opens at the same time as all the early events do. I'm sure I'll find time, but I've decided to drop my Lightweight event in dedication to the Championship and/or Dealer's Hall. If I make it to day 2, yeah I'll be playing like crazy and will drop it anyways. But even if I don't, I will take a bunch of pictures and videos of all the top 16, 8, 4, and 2 matches for you guys. Then also check out the Hall.

I get to wake up at 3:30 Wednesday morning (I didn't know they even made a 3:30 in the morning unless you make it to then without going to sleep first) to go to the airport, get the car parked, get the shuttle to the terminal, and make it to the plane leaving at 6:00. I'll be in Indy for lunch.

Fomox is coming down Tuesday in the afternoon for some last minute play-testing. Then Stubobj, Tiny Timmy, and Chris M will meet us at my place Wednesday morning at 7 AM to leave for the 10+ hour car ride.

Made it to Indy around 2:45, only had 2 people in front of me at Will Call and met up with everyone for setup.

Had fun meeting you guys... has it really been a year?

Then on my way out i noticed 400+ people in line for Will Call... THANK god for being an early bird.

The Columbus Crew has arrived. We've got a few people playing in Smackdown tomorrow and I'll be in the Summoner Wars event tomorrow which should be fun.

Glad to be here, and we even got a bonus night for our hotel due to an overbooking by Mariott. We had to stay in a different hotel room across the street but saving a night and getting a better room for one night was hard to beat!

And here's a shout out to ChaosChild...my "homecoming dinner" was Campbell's Tomato Soup...the good stuff...with Ritz Crackers. <smile>
