View Full Version : Deciduous Trees...

I just purchased a few of these deciduous tree sets from Playmobil.com. There are two trees per pack and they are customizable: the middle trunk is removable to shorten the tree and the leaves come off so they look like trees without leaves during winter. The base of the tree takes up 3 hex spaces. I'll post some pics of the trees on an HS map soon. They also might receive the same shading treatment as GB did to his castle pieces to add some shadows in the leaves.

I'd have to see them on a battlefield along side the other trees before I can make any really judgements.
That said, they look familar to me. I think someone else might have tried using these trees before...

How much?

They must be bigger than they look, if the bases are three hexes big.
And I agree, I would also need to see them on a HS map for any real judgement.

Newb.Newb, are these the ones they sell for $9? Way back when I mentioned these trees on .net in our big foliage thread. I love these Playmobile trees but they can be expensive.

$7.79 for the two trees which seems like a lot but they are very durable (big plus for me) and customizable. I'll post some pics tonight of the trees on an HS map along with different ways they can be customized.

Newb. They are so cool, but I would spend $100 before I had enough to be satisfied.

Here are the pictures of the trees on an HS board:

Close-up of a modified Tall tree (removed the middle trunk to lower the branches):

Here is a shot of the tree in a snowy setting with leaves removed:

The trees can actually fit on two spaces if adjusted properly with just a small amount of overhang. I might try to drill some holes in some single snow spaces to use them as bases for the trees in a snow setting since the normal bases are green.

My kids have a crapload of those trees. Maybe I'll make a map with them. Woodland scenics has trees of comprable height and price, however, that I think look a little better for Heroscape judging from the pictures (I don't have any myself). I think you do have to make bases for them though.

I just like these because they are durable and look pretty good. I think a dark wash on the leaves will add some character to them and make them look less toylike.

The colors match and they have that stylized look that the evergreen trees have.

Good point. I'll have to try it out. A couple of the ones I have can eat people too hehe - terrain hazard!

I picked up some Future and some dark green paint to do some shading on the leaves. Expect some pics of the shaded leaves in the next couple of days.

Boy, they do create some great LOS obstruction looking down on them and they're high enough for ground figures to get beneath.
Nice integration!
