So, I've been thinking of taking some of my spare Wound Markers (and after five Master Sets you have a LOT of spare Wound Markers) and using them as various special markers - well, really, Power Batteries and Magneto's shield. The little printables fit pretty nicely into the bottom of them, like the Airborne Elite's grenades.
But, anyone have any tips on how to paint them? I'd want to paint the yellow Power Batteries yellow; green ones green, a purple-pink for Magneto... y'know. I was thinking maybe nail polish or something - I've heard that works pretty good for these sorts of things. But, yeah, any other ideas or experiences?
I know this is a bit late, but I did custom markers for my Lanterns and Magneto. This isn't the best shot, but it does show how nicely Magneto's marker matches . . . .
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff355/xnfm/markers.jpg
For Hal (and by extension the other GLs) I went with a Chaos Black* spray on basecoat and painted the "trim" of the marker Snot Green.
The Yellow Lanterns got a Skull White base spray folliowed up with two coats of Sunburst Yellow (that's what it took to get an even coat) on the "trim," then Chaos Black in the center.
For Magneto I went with a Chaos Black base, then painted the center Blood Red (iirc it took two coats to get an even finish) and painted the rim Imperial Purple.
*I use Games Workshop paints, mostly because they're what I'm most familiar with and I know the line reasonably well.

That looks great, but I don't recommend anyone do this for several reasons.
It is very difficult to get a nice smooth coat of paint on them.
You end up spending a lot of paint for such a little task due to the need for a nice coat.
The paint scratches off very easily over a short amount of time.
You could put a finish on them to protect the coat from scratching off, but then you end up with too much product on the things so that they don't stack as well as what you would be use to with Heroscape Official wound markers.
With or without a finish, the markers will start to stick to each other when kept in storage.
It is a time consuming process trying to give both sides of these things a nice smooth coat and then a nice smooth finish.Overall, it is a much better idea to just by something else, or superglue some colored paper to the makers. I very much like my glass Chessex counters, but I think that quozl's find of those nice looking markers will replace what I have.

$10.95 for 500 in 10 colors so that's 50 of each color. However, there is a $15 minimum order plus shipping (although shipping is free with a $100 order).
There's also a guy in Portland who sells these for 5 cents each.
From the way I read it they are available in 10 colours but you only get 1 colour in the bag of 500.
Cheers

I'm pretty sure they're going to end up being very close to the same size as Heroscape markers, but I'll check very thoroughly once I have them in hand.
It'll be nice to be forever covered for every Lantern Corps out there and just about any other marker based power we'll eeeeever come out with. I think I'm going with gray for Electromagnetic Bubble.
Um... they're 3/4"... not close, but still the best option

Even better if you ask me. I want my C3G markers to look slightly different from the official product, since this is a custom project, and I want it to look profession, but still have some noticeable differences.

Although I agree that "Available in 10 colors" sounds like you have to choose one color, I'm going to guess that you get the whole variety. The description says:
"3/4" plastic counters are great for stacking, counting and sorting activities. Available in 10 colors."
I don't think there would be much sorting if you got a box of 500 markers that were the same color.

Batman (Terry McGinnis)
The Mad Hatter
Chase Stein
Scarecrow
Happy now? ;)
Ventriloquist has always been one of my favorites (Even though he is kind of lame... :p , ever since the old Batman cartoon, and the couple episodes he was in. Cheap Crime Lord, with perhaps movement synergies with criminals and thieves, to represent his heist planning.
But for some weird reason, I've actually turned on Batman Beyond again, and have a ton of ideas for him. So the top two are both interchangeable. :p

The Ventriloquist and Mad Hatter are numbers 9 and 11 and my "to be drafted" list currently. :-) I wouldn't mind seeing someone else LD either, though. I'm right there with you on the Thief synergies for Ventriloquist. Making him a crimelord would be enough to give him criminal synergies though, in my opinion.
Mad Hatter is tough because I've gotten to the point where I'm getting kind of sick of mind control powers, but I think he'd actually be a good candidate for using markers (hat markers) in a mind control power, so it could be done a little differently mechanically, and maybe if mind controlled figures took a wound, they'd lose the hat marker and return to their original owner, or something like that. I see Mad Hatter as a "Mastermind."
Terry's on my "to draft" list as well, but he's a lot lower. I could see him having Green Goblin's aerial maneuverability type power, as well as maybe a partial invisibility power and a bat-a-rang type power.
Chase I don't know all that much about. Does she have a mini?
Scarecrow is one that we drafted in the sanctum forever ago, but hasn't been worked on yet (we've just got so much to work on!).

I dunno, Mad Hatter has always seemed to me like a petty criminal more than a mastermind, but YouAreBatman, so you'd probably know more than I. ;)
Most customs of Terry have him with Stealth Flying, Batarangs, and invisibly/batcave link. I don't care much for Batman (Any of 'em) replying too heavily on Batarangs, when they have their Batfists, so I've worked out some other ideas. I've actually been working on a custom of him, I might have it done in a few days, and you can see where I'm going with this. :p

Question for you all:
I know that the Heroscape designers didn't mean for Marvel and Valhalla-scape to be mixed.
However, is C3G designed to be mixed?
C3G uses a game system (Heroscape) that is still a completely compatible "system" with all Heroscape products. However, our game is based off of the original aesthetics from the Marvel Master Set, and recently, the official game designers have confirmed that the Marvel line (which is what we have based our game off of) is not recommended to be played with the Valahalla/DnD line and the two are separate games that were never meant to be combined.
So you can mix them, but it was, is, and never will be recommended.
quozl
September 13th, 2010, 06:26 PM
But while the Marvel set was not given extensive playesting with Valhalla units, we in C3G can do so. So we can make superscape mixable with Valahalla if we so choose to.
I guess my real question is: who here wants to do that?

I've actually be striving to playtest C3G Units only against C3G Units lately as much as possible. Why? Because my primary interest is to be internally compatible.
Also, there are some things that just work in the SuperHeroscape world that don't work in Valhallascape and vice versa.
Example A: would be powers that allow units to be super elusive to other figures without high threat ranges usually are no big deal in SuperHeroscape but could feel overpowered against Valhalla.
Example B: Deadeye Dan is a dud in Valhalla, but give him 400 points worth of medium-sized hero to take out and he could be a super annoying superstar, making him feel overpowered against SuperHeroscape.

So, Bats, I'm guessing you would like to keep C3G and Valhalla as separate but compatible games?
I've been wondering about this because when I select playtest armies I wonder if an all-Valhalla army would be frowned upon in playtesting.
A3n
September 13th, 2010, 06:52 PM
Which is what has been done anyway.
Not in all cases. We have some designs that were not playtested with any Valhalla units, for example.
True but they would have been playtested against units that did, which by extension those units would be balanced so the current unit should theoretically be balanced. Also in the playtests the top section has questions that are asked about synergy & power & all playtesters are supposed to consider all official & C3G units when passing the unit for these questions. So if the playtester believes there is something that may be problematic they should raise it with the LD or test it in a playtest to see if there is an issue.

My priority is for C3G internal compatibility. If we achieve Valhalla compatibility as a side-effect, I'm cool with that.
I'm certainly fine with all-Valhalla armies in playtesting. I just find C3G units more fun to play, so that's what I use when I playtest. They just fit the feel of SuperHeroscape better for me.

Like Jonah and the Lawmen boost. There are some synergies outside of C3G and I like that. Although meant for Superheroscape, these units can fit right in to a Valhalla battle.

With what he had, sure, but cheesy costumes, over dramatic actors who don't fully understand the character, and villains more interested in hamming it up than delving into psychological realism just don't cut it for me. Burton's always been more interested in macabre spectacle than characterization or well developed plots, though.

You have to realize though, people (especially Hollyweird) didn't take comics seriously until X-men or Blade actually but he wasn't really considered a "Super Hero" as much as a modern day Van Helsing. Things have changed and so our movies require more serious and realistic aspects.

I think Burton's Batman is a lot less impressive in retrospect. Compared to what we had at the time - campy Batman, Silver Age, Batboats and Robin in tights and all that - Burton was AMAZING. But now that sort of generic darkness is so... passe. We had BTAS. We've had the Nolanverse. Comics are pitch-dark nowadays. And Burton in general just seems to make the same movie over and over again. It's all very played out.
As for Adam West... I don't see how anyone could hate THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlusgU-MUZ4). It's just... too good. Too good.

Yep, got 'em today. Were definitely 50 of each color. I think they look great. They're bigger than wound markers for sure - more like the same diameter as a penny and proportionally deeper. They're almost exactly the same shape as wound markers, though, other than the size difference, except they're a bit more rounded at the top and this creates a little bit more of a valley on the flip side.
They take up a little extra room on the cards, but they look good, and they're nicely stackable. They get my

I think those dead knights that you are referring to may just be the best thing that DnD has created as of yet. I say that because of how much value they are going to be giving to official units that are rarely ever drafted due to their lack of game power or their High cost value.

Death Knights x4 ~ 240 Points
Solomon Grundy ~ 530 Points
Dumutef Guard x3 ~ 605 Points
Seems like a solid army to me. Keep markers on the Death Knights, stomp around with Grundy, and substitute with Dumutefs while he's taking a dirt nap. You could do the same thing with Doomsday for a hundred points more.
Death Knights x4 ~ 240 Points
Wolverine ~ 520 Points
Taelord ~ 700 Points
And man, THAT is just crazy. At its peak you're getting five attacks per activation, each subtracting 2 defense dice (huh, isn't THAT a coincidence!) and each with a bonus from Taelord. Hell, you don't even NEED Taelord.
Death Knights x2 ~ 120 Points
Wolverine ~ 400 Points
That's a solid army all its own.

This is a great synopsis. I don't even mind that Paralax is the opening villain, because if you ever read Green Lantern origins and early books, TONS of events occurred with the Green Corp and the Oans would just erase it from the Lanterns' minds. Heck, Hal Jordan had no knowledge of Oa or the Oan's until after his second year.
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris, if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Wolverine (280 Points)
Death Knights x2 (120 Points)
That's 400 points, right? A solid, basic, and AWESOME army. But, overpowered? I don't think so, myself. Let's see some other 400~ point armies.
Q9 (180 Points)
Raelin (260 Points)
Deathreavers x3.5 (400 Points)

Blastatrons x2 (230 Points)
Gladiatrons x2 (390 POints)
Marcus Decimus Gallus (100 Points)
Roman Legionnaires x6 (400 Points)
Is the combo potent? Definitely. But is it any better than these guys? I don't foresee it being much of an issue; I mean, they'll run circles around armies full of big, high-cost heroes, but that's their PURPOSE, more or less.

Bats we can only make our stuff compatible with what was already released when we make each unit. If we had knowledge of these guys before Wolverine was finished, and still allowed him to bond with him, then I would say it would be a concern about our compatablity. Since we don't know what is being made and how, we can only due our best, and if things happen like this, it could always be put to a vote from you Heros to change things on released cards to avoid the problems. Honestly though, how many of us mix C3G with classic outside of oplaytests? Another idea is to ban the combination in any playtests. I for one can tell you I will not be using these guys in any of my playtests. About the only time I use classic is in the heavy hitter/mid-level hero tests and the Squad test. When it comes to Army Tests, I like the synergies we have anbd it's easier to make higher point armys then trying to work in some classic units to.

I am definitely 100% against recalling any of our stuff to adjust to what the official game does. I would vote NAY on that every single time.
I do think, after talking to our playtesting guru, Griffin, that it's quite likely we may end up banning Official/C3G mixed armies for playtesting. It'd still be OK to play against an official army, but not with C3G and official on the same team. Because we cannot control any synergies that may occur, and, frankly, we don't want our own designs to be subject to such constraints.

I don't think that's a good idea, since some figures were designed with synergies with officials in mind. Jonah Hex, anyone?
Why don't we wait for D3 (Or proxy :p), and see exactly how powerful this combo is before getting our panties in a wad. I personally think it's awesome, not a problem.

I've always heard from C3G that the point cost for bonding is built in to the card that has the bonding power. So it shouldn't affect C3G at all.

I agree. Its not super potent. The DK don't have range or flying, which are almost musts for SuperScape.

Yes, but the DnD units were costed for what their bonding brings them in the official game. There's no Wolverine for them to bond with over there and that combo wasn't tested or accounted for in the cost of the Death Knights.

So perhaps we should test the Death Knights with the C3G relentless heroes and possibly adjust the Death Knights' cost for C3G use?
That way we don't change any C3G units but can give a suggested cost for official units when used with superscape.

Hey Guys,
I'm going into lurk mode for a while. I guess I pretty much have been anyways, but I digress. Just have a lot going on at the moment.
To make matters worse, work has blocked my access to Heroscapers and my home PC crashed. I've lost access to all my customs and the files and programs I used to make them.
I don't plan on retiring from the Heroscape Community, but I'm taking a break for a few weeks while I get a new PC.

In my opinion, before anyone starts creating Spider-Man villians, they should first consider if they like the current Spider-Man official card. If you don't like it and feel it is underpowered, you'll most likely create a Spider-Man custom in your future. I would consider increasing the power level of your Spider-Man villians to compensate. I've always felt that a good Spider-Man card would have him at a pretty decent power level. At least on par with Iron Man or Captian America. Maybe even a bit higher since he's so darn hard to hit.

Just curious... how tall, in inches, is the figure? (Green Construct)

Might have a different sculpt from what ends up on the card for one or two, but Iīll either live with it or get the right ones, when the cards are released...
I have some wrong sculpts on purpose, because either the sculpt was out of stock everywhere, or it was just to plain expensive, or I just like another sculpt. 8) I use comic image cards, so the only think this changes is the hitzone and I can live with that. (I know in general that Green Arrow's bow is not a hitzone even though I have a different figure, it just makes sense)
@IAmBatman: Care to take one for us?

I thought there was a thread dedicated to Special Power ideas, but I couldn't find it. Thus, I'm posting it here.
I just had an idea for Shadowcat. I was watching Wolverine and the X-Men yesterday with my son and Shadowcat used her ability to walk through the attacking figure and take their guns away. She tends to do this a great deal in the cartoon. So what about:
STEAL YOUR GUNS
After moving with Shadowcat, you may place a Theft token on any figure that Shadowcat moved through this turn that has a range higher than 1. Figures with a Theft token on their card must subtract 1 from their Attack and have their Range reduced to 1.

Yeah, me too... for some figures I went for a cheaper sculpt, (or ones that were available, like with cops and thugs :() and for some, I had alternatives lying around, or liked other versions better. (like with X-Men, where I had the Danger Room boxed set, and like that look) and For a couple, like Luthor and Kilowog, I went and converted up my own, because the right figures were just too expensive.
I also have the founding X-Men in the original 60s Kirby style look, and have bought the original Kirby style Avengers too. I like playing campy scenarios that would make Stan Lee himself proud!
EXCELSIOR!!!

While we are talking about sculpts, I was wondering what you guys are using for Sinestro? He has a nice sculpt that costs 50 dollars or a crappy looking sculpt for relatively cheap. I didn't get either and was just wondering what the plan was for him. (I'd almost rather have the Yellow Lantern that is shooting himself in the face than the cheaper Sinestro)

Oh, I love the Yellow Lantern mini. SO perfect for the character.
I agree on Sinestro - I want the Yellow Lantern one, because I assume the card will be the Yellow Lantern version of him, but it's so much I can't justify it. Anything over $5 is too much for me - but +$50!? For a tiny figure? No way!
For a huge figure... maybe. I'm glad the Sentinel is only $25, personally. I'd be glad to buy two or three of those, because it's a pretty solid figure at a fair price.

Interesting... Thereīs a lot of new units coming out for D&D Scape that would be very suitable for some Valhallan Thor scenarios.
With Dark Elves, Elementals, Frost Giants, Undead, Demons, etc... and Orcs, Trolls, Dragons, Minions of Utgar, Lava Men, and so on, from classic Scape to be the bad guys, and Vikings, jandar Sentinels, maybe Dwarves, and several other types to stand in for some Asgardian allies, thereīs great potential here!
Anyone interested in designing, Hela, Malekith (king of the Dark Elves), Enchantress and Executioner, Ulik, and maybe The Warriors Three?

He is awesome, at least he's pretty solid and not a skinny little figure. After getting my Green Construct, I had to get him to complete my GL corps army. I got the Yellow Lantern shooting himself in the face to use as Sinestro as well. (It was easier to justify a $.79 figure over a $50.00 figure.)

Alright, so, this seems to be the Fantastic Four Starter, hmm?
HEROES
Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Woman
Human Torch
The Thing
She-Hulk
SHIELD Troopers?
VILLAINS
Dr. Doom
Doombot
Mole Man
Moloid
Super Skrull
Skrull Warriors
Annihilus
Puppet Master
EXCLUSIVE
Namor the Sub-Mariner
I'm pretty sure it was mentioned there's 14 Units + Exclusive, and only one of those has yet to be revealed; SHIELD guys were playtested a while back, so I'm thinking they might be part of it, but... I dunno. I could just as easily see Black Panther or Nova (Frankie Raye, of course) or a Silver Surfer remake jammed in there. I doubt it's another villain, though, personally.

Hmm... well, all of these units were playtested, so that means that the SHIELD agents and one more aren't in the Fantastic Four set. If so, I'd bet the Skrull Warriors will be in their own pack - I think the Skrulls are the only villains in this set that are big enough on a non-Fantastic Four basis, and if both squads are deconfirmed, that makes the set only Heroes so far.
So, that makes it very possible that the Hero/Villain sides will be even, as it leaves us with 5 confirmed heroes, 7 confirmed villains, and two unconfirmed.
...oh! Black Panther and Storm! They were surrogates for Reed and Sue not too long ago, right? And HeIsBatman did mention you guys were hammering out Storm recently.
That'd be pretty cool.
Gah, so excited... I've been avoiding playtesting for a lot of guys recently so I can be relatively "pure" for a lot of the upcoming set.

A3n, I think you forgot that we voted to add one of them on there to the set after it was finished ... think Griffin LD. So it's actually everything on Johnny's list but one.
Johnny, the numbers should actually be 13+ the exclusive. It's one unit more than we did for the World's Finest. We'd planned to follow the World's Finest template exactly, but then we decided we wanted to add in another unit we'd already completed for the sake of scenarios. Well, a certain scenario anyway.

I sincerely doubt Storm will have any direct synergies with the Fan Four. She's not a Scientist and "Adventurer" is not a good fit for her, in my opinion. I couldn't say on Black Panther, but I don't think either of those classes is a very good fit for him either.
