Yep. We have Frost Giants that turn people into Ice Rocks, Hydro Man that places water, Magma that places lava, Floronic Man that... ;), and a few other things in the works. So to answer your question, yes, we have thought of that. :)

I think there would be a lot of mechanical complications with powers that placed or stacked land tiles. Working out all the rules and balancing it would be really tricky if not impossible for something like C3G, I think. A good set of house/custom rules would be pretty awesome though.
I do think an Iceman who could put down Ice tiles would be cool, and Margloth (back before he was a Hero) had a cool Plant Monster design that worked with Ivy. I'd still love to see that.

Like I said above, some house rules would help you out there. Maybe something like:
After a figure you control with the Super Strength special power moves with Super Leap or Flying, you may place up to 6 Rock tiles on any same level land spaces adjacent to the moved figure. Any figures or glyphs that were on those tiles are placed on top the placed Rock Tiles.
It would need some work of course, but it might be a decent start.

Hmm, not bad TB. Probably the closest thing to a crater, since removing tiles could be all but impossible.

I think it is possible without it being a house rule.
CRATER SMASH
Start the game with 12 single sand tiles on this card. When this figure ends its Superleap movement, place as many sand tiles adjacent to it as you can. Placed sand tiles must be placed normally on the battlefield and cannot be placed 3 spaces higher or lower than this figure's base.
Of course, I would wonder why you would ever want to give your opponent height advantage.

CRATER SMASH
Start the game with 12 single sand tiles on this card. When this figure ends its Superleap movement, move all adjacent figures one space away from this figure. Figures moved by Crater Smash will receive one wound, but will not take leaving engagement attacks. Place as many sand tiles adjacent to this figure as you can. Placed sand tiles must be placed normally on the battlefield and cannot be placed 3 spaces higher or lower than this figure's base.
Of course, I would wonder why you would ever want to give your opponent height advantage.
That could work. Would make for an interesting game. Of course, the auto-wound could be a die roll instead, so he doesn't just eat through squads.

Units on spaces where a sand hex are placed could take damage (or on d20 take damage), that might make it worth doing. You could even "throw" a unit on a space that is now covered by a sand tile.
Even more interesting if the unit had a "Pit Fighter" special power, where he receives bonuses for not having height advantage. So, yes, you give your opponent height, but you are "gained" a lack of height for yourself.
Lots of fun ways to tweak this idea, I think.

Yeah, I finished off the second disc just to find out that Netflix does not carry the 3rd or 4th disc of season 1 yet. I don't know why they do that, releasing each disc separately for a season. I'm sure it's a money grab but it annoys me. Anyway after just watching the first two discs I'm already sold on the series, found a place I could buy all of season 1 for a real good price so I ordered it.
The Avengers cartoon used to be streaming on Netflix. That's how I watched it, a lot handier. :p Love the show, and wish I could watch the new season!
You can watch it for free on 1channel.ch (http://www.1channel.ch/watch-2726641-The-Avengers-Earths-Mightiest-Heroes)
Just following up on this because I was so thoroughly impressed by the show. Watched the rest of season 1 and the first 3 episodes of season 2 using the above link. Found out that most (if not all) of season 1 is on youtube, so you don't have to go to any questionable sites and sign up to check them out.
Ended up looking around to see how much it would cost to buy the series and was disappointed to find out that they released each of the 4 discs that make up season 1 individually. They want $15 for each one, so $60 just for season 1. Well that price is ridiculous considering I can get full seasons of HBO tv shows for less. I kept on looking around to see if I could find it cheaper and found the whole first season available for $14 here:
http://www.ioffer.com/i/avengers-earths-mightiest-heros-first-season-4-dvd-210241634
This is a guy in England that will send you a burned copy of the four disc set with art work on the discs. I wasn't sure about it but he has a really high positive feedback rating so I figured at $14 it was worth the gamble. The discs arrived in the mail today (just over a week later) and had no problems playing the first disc I threw into my DVD player to test out. So if you are looking to pick up this series for cheap and don't want to burn the discs yourself, here is your chance.
The only thing I found odd was that the the show was released in the wrong order. I looked it up to be sure and they actually list 'the break out' parts 1 & 2 as the first two episodes in the official episode guide. However, the link above has them listed in the correct chronological order and that was also how I watched them on the Netflix discs I received. Yet the burned copies I received (with official looking menus) has them in a different order. Don't know why they did this, but you should really watch episodes 3-6 on disc 1, then episode 7 on disc 2 first before watching the two 'break out' episodes on disc 1. After that everything goes in the correct order from episode 8 on. Once you watch it you will see why it is backwards.
Another update, while watching more episodes I am discovering that the discs will have slight read errors on them. I am playing them through my x-box and so far it has not caused a full on freeze up, but the little bubble pops up saying something about retrieving data or read error, then it continues playing through without stopping. Has so far occurred only on two episodes but I have not watched every one yet.
Also saw discs 1 and 4 at Walmart for $10 each. Didn't have discs 2 and 3 in stock but $40 for the set is more reasonable then the $60 Best Buy.com wants.
This show has lots of great quotes that my gaming partners will soon hear me saying when we play.

I think something like reverse-height advantage would be interesting. Of course, whoever had this ability could easily decimate armys built around range and height advantage... HEHEHE:twisted:
EDIT: I also think the auto-wound is a bit harsh. I think a die or 20d would work better.

Anybody else here read Hellblazer? I've picked up a few to do some research*cough* on a Constantine design. (Now I'm wanting to do Papa Midnite too, woohoo!). Anyway, what are your guys' thoughts on it? It's pretty freaky sometimes, but other times it's just super cheesy. I think it's enjoyable, and very dark, the way I like it. Looking forward to reading some newer ones, as I've heard those are much easier to get through (Not that the first ones are bad, I'm just curious how they're different!)

NO SPOILERS HERE, I PROMISE
I just saw the Avengers, and there only two words I can think of to express it, and those two words felt so unworthy to attempt the expressing of Earth's Mightiest Film that they decided to Assemble themselves into the one word: FAmazing!!!
Seriously, this movie is great. The biggest surprise to me, and it was a pleasant one, is how Captain America stood out above all the others as the best personified Superhero on film since Heath Ledger's Joker. And honestly, it was even better than Heath in ONE aspect: How true to the comics Captain America was. If you are looking for a great movie, definitely watch the Avengers. And if you are looking for a reason to love Captain America all over again, watch the Avengers.

I saw it at a private showing in Raleigh.
I am a bit worried that little kids may lose some interest in it because of the slow character developing bits, but adolescents and adults should continue to like it. I really only have two little critiques to it:
The jumps from extreme action to extreme boredom is a bit polarized and kinda unnerving too. I am not sure if people will like that, but it gave me a "nervous" feeling a couple of times and it made me feel kinda sick - like vertigo.
There was no amazing score or theme in the movie. What happened to the good old days of Conan or Superman or Starwars or Batman or Indian Jones movies having that anthem that no one ever forgets? I really miss that.

So maybe it's not all bad to have a break. Gotta see for myself!

There was one point near the end, when a really nice score started as the camera was drinking in a stoic shot of the Avengers, but then it was cut short.... :( The sound track may be worth getting, but for me, if a movie score isn't showcased in the film, then I won't care about it enough to want to listen to it, much less even recognize it. But you know, film makers used to know and live by the "power of the score". Now it is treated as a "side dish". Let me share this, and I know I am preaching to the choir here, but you will appreciate this: I let my daughter watch Superman I and II over a year ago. She is now 5 (since December). She still "sings" the theme song when she is pretending to be Supergirl while I am flying her around the house. And she is 5! That type of cultural and psychological influence just shouldn't be ignored... and yet... here we are in a world of films without musical acknowledgement.

TDR has bad press? from where?
Apparently, after several screenings throughout the world, people couldn't understand WTF Bane was saying. WB politely asked Nolan to do some last minute voice dubbing, and Nolan basically said "F U I know what I am doing"... So WB is pulling away the "blank check" Nolan has been privileged with and not letting him have that free creative control anymore.
Nolan believes that his movie is realistic in that Bane, speaking through a respirator would be difficult to understand, and that helps to create the intense "horror" of the character. I don't know, I guess we will figure it out soon enough.

If ya'll haven't bought your tickets yet you might want to, the midnight showing is sold out in my area already. Were going to go Sunday. What do ya think the chances are of the new release being out by then? It's super fun to watch a comic movie and then come home and get a game of Scape in, using the figures featured in the film. We did it for Thor, and Captain America. They are drafted quickly though so ya better hope ya roll high, if ya wanna get one.

Not at all like Teen Titans, sorry. :p It's more in line with Gargoyles and The Spectacular Spider-Man (Greg Weisman's prior series). Very serious, a lot of focus on the politics and overarching storyline and the psychologies of the characters.
I mean, the B-plot in one episode was just the Justice League sitting around discussing what new heroes they should admit! Like, ten minutes of that. Glorious.

As much as I want to see Avengers as soon as it opens, I've gotten to the point where I don't really like watching movies when the theater is packed. I'll most likely see it Monday afternoon after it opens when the theater is maybe 1/4 of the way full.

I'd see Avengers, but I still haven't seen Thor or Captain America yet... I mean how can I justify renting 'em when I have so many FREE movies to watch, y'know? But I'm mighty tempted to just skip ahead and see Avengers because why not.
EDIT: Oh, and as a note, Season 2 of Young Justice starts up tomorrow morning! Check the TRAILER (http://youtu.be/UEZqFOFJ2EU): Lobo, Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl, Bumblebee, Adam Strange... gonna be good!
Cool, I love Young Justice I like the fact that it has an over-arching story line but the episodes give enough substance to be interesting also.

Had a Classic Tournament today in Austin MN that was a lot of fun. However, it was not held at a gaming store so I didn't get my normal toy/gaming browsing/shopping in, so I headed to Toys R Us on the way home.
Was kind of looking for the new Avengers Movie Gravity feed but my only TRU didn't have it. Scored a nice Handful of Heros pack when a Gladiator Hulk caught my eye. Also had a Red Hulk figure that I will paint up for my C3G figure and a pretty nice Sabertooth figure. A Cyclopes, Magneto, & Spiderman round out the better figures in pack.
I then decided to hit up the local Target to see if they had the Avengers Gravity feed and hit pay dirt. It was located right up front by the baseball/magic cards section near the register. Ended up with a Loki, Heimdall, Agent Coulson, & Skull Infiltrator figure. Took a quick walk through the regular toy section too and a super sweet World War Hulk 3 3/4" action figure has hanging on the front row so I snatched it up too.
Use to do a lot of toy hunting but have not done much in quite a while now because it has been easier to just order what I want on line. So getting out in a B&M store and getting a nice score was nice. Here is a pic of my haul, it is not a very good/clear pic but you get the idea.

Anybody here ever play Munchkin? One of the first hobby games I ever got into. I'm pretty sure it even predates my 'Scape playing. Awesome game, but it does get old after a million times of playing it, and all the different versions aren't really that different. But the Superhero and Spy versions go together pretty well! :D
Anyway, I've been fiddling around with some ideas for a superhero card game that plays slightly like a Muchkin, with some HS-like dice rolling involved. Trying to figure out a new game that's unique is pretty darned hard! It all kind of started with me thinking up my own superheroes, and wanting to make my own "superhero universe," so I'm hoping it'll get somewhere eventually, haha! I fall in love with my own characters too easily, and don't want to see them get lost. :p (Like that Star Wars fan film trilogy I wrote at the beginning of high school. You guys have got to play Munchkin at some point. If you didn't know, it's a D&D spoof (At least the original version is). It's pretty hilarious. Lots of backstabbing and such.
As an example, I went to a gaming convention one time, and a group of people played the Cthulhu version, and the winner walked away with a prize. I got in on it. I managed to win by being the biggest d!ck of them all, and that's how the game plays! :D There was a horrible beast, and I teamed up with someone who couldn't beat it. I then played a special item that let me escape for free, after guaranteeing that he couldn't beat it on his own. Therefore I got away stealing the treasure, while he was killed by the monster. I was dubbed Sir-kills-a-lot for the rest of the game, and nobody trusted me since. It was awesome.
And before you guys think I'm just mean, the game is meant to be played that way. It says backstab your buddies on the front cover, and half the cards help you beat up your opponents. What I did was just a bit extra nasty, since he thought I was on his side.
And Hahma, no I haven't heard of that game. Just goes to show that there's no originality left in the world. Ah well, if I finish it, I bet mine'll be different, at least slightly.

Yeah, the trailers to Nolan movies can sometimes be a bit underwhelming. He's picky about making sure that the moviegoer has plenty of surprises . . . especially about the plot. That said, The Dark Knight has really cool trailers. TDKR hasn't had bad trailers, imo, they aren't great either. I'm WAY excited tho. Contrast this w/ Michael Bay films . . . the trailers make them look like the greatest thing since Heroscape but I almost always leave the theatre feeling like the story just lacked a few plot points.
Anyway, I'm excited about this summer's movies. My wife got us Midnight tix for Thursday night (working on Friday gonna be terrible). Then we're using our free movie passes that came w/ the Avengers cartoon purchase to go see it for free at a local IMAX 3D. We're so excited!!

It's probably the actors, really. I'm really tired of Bale at this point, am disappointed in Hathaway (from what we've seen; she could turn out great for all I know), and have no real feelings either way on Hardy. Gordon-Levitt DOESN'T do anything in that trailer other than, like, sit next to a kid, but he's still the only one I'm interested in, which is probably a bad thing.
I guess my biggest problem with it is that it doesn't really feel like a Batman movie from that trailer. None of the character seem "Batman-y." I know that's what he's been going for with these movies, and it's definitely their strength, but I'm not geeking out the same way I do when I see Captain America or Iron Man or what have you.
It'll be a good (or even great) movie, but I'm not excited for it. I've never been excited for any of his other movies, either, though.

$7.25 isn't too great really. That is $1.81 per unpainted/unbased figure. Still, I know what it is like when you really want something. I am just accustomed to buying Clix for about 50 cents and buying a lot of them at once to keep the shipping cost low per figure.

Well, those handful of hero packs cost around $7 for me at Toys R Us and you get 8 figures. Since you can kind of see 7 of the figures, I only buy a pack with 4 or more figures I want and that is not always possible, especially once you have bought a few packs because then you have to start avoiding doubles. Then the last mystery figure is a crap shoot, you may or may not get one you want or like. So I think he did okay considering he only ordered exactly what he was looking for. Of course I suppose I could sell the figures I don't want to cut down on my cost.

I take a small pen-light with me so I can see what the 'secret figure' is. I got one that had the old school Iron Man in the seven and also as the 'secret figure', score. I also used to take a small magnifying glass but I usually only need the light. If you are finding HOH first release packs, then you are lucky. I need to check my local Toys R Us, I think we still have one.

I am just accustomed to buying Clix for about 50 cents and buying a lot of them at once to keep the shipping cost low per figure.
Yeah, me too. In this case I got a few figures that are expensive or hard to find as clix (or I hate the Red Hulk clix that is affordable), so I didn't mind paying a bit more. I also just made a large clix order with a Battlesuit Lex for $3.50 and then a pile of other figures that were mostly $.10 - $.20. Again, shipping was a bit steep, but the per figure price was still pretty good. It's a retailer that I haven't used before, eventhorizon1984.com. I think some other C3G'er must be buying from them too, because somebody bought the Mysterios, a Red Tornado and a Vulture out from under me.
Well, those handful of hero packs cost around $7 for me at Toys R Us and you get 8 figures. This is the way I see it too. Basically, it boils down to the fact that I think the blind purchase model is a bunch of crap for the consumer and I refuse to participate. I'd rather buy singles of exactly what I want, even if the price is a bit higher per figure.
IAmBatman
May 3rd, 2012, 12:24 PM
I'll only ever go blind purchase if it's a case where I have nothing in the set and I want pretty much everything in the set. Then I'll happily take a stab at one blind booster (maybe two), be happy with the rarer stuff I get, then buy everything else in the secondary market.

All-Star Superman man was what I was thinking when I said I liked him as an idea. Superman works best for me when he's used as an ideal, something to live up to, a metaphor for humanity's potential. Despite not being a fan of Superman, All-Star Superman (there's no good way to shorten that title is there?) is my favorite comic. I absolutely love it, and that page is just great. I have no shame in admitting that I've actually teared up when reading it.
I don't want to hype up All-Star Superman for anyone, but if you haven't read it, go do so.

Jackpot!! Just had 2 of the Avengers Heroclix team packs arrive in the mail today and landed:
The Warriors Three: Fandral, Hogun, & Volstagg
Howling Commando Rescue Team: Capt. America (WWII version), Gabe Jones (Black soldier), & Dum Dum Dugan.
With Dum Dum in the May releases and the warriors 3 hitting play testing this week I scored 4 new C3G figures that I wanted and didn't have. Love the WWII Capt. sculpt too and Gabe Jones fits in well with some other army soldier types I have been assembling for a future unique military squad.
Of course, looking at the box I would have been pretty happy with the Frost Giants, Hydra Assault Squad, and Mystery Military Force too so my odds were pretty good.
At the tourney I had last weekend, I won a $10 gift card to a place called sci-fi genre. This is a website I had never heard of before so I checked them out and found that they were selling the 3 packs (@ $6.75) that I can't buy locally. Two packs plus S&H came to $19.40, minus the $10 gift card, so for only $9.40 I landed a pretty good lot.

Based on the Helicarrier as seen in the Avengers movie:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/yodaking/Helicarrierv2.jpg
I restricted myself to 2 RotV, 2 BftU, 2 Marvel, & 1 Castle set. It is really hard to get the runway look you want on both air strips due to the limited number of tiles you get in the Marvel sets. So only the lower deck is detailed like a runway.

That was how I had it at first but I ran out of single wall walk tiles so I had to use the 7 & 9 wall walk hexes, which forced me to move the water tiles up on top of them.
It might be cool if the Helicarrier was surrounded by water that was "sky" and only Fliers could enter Sky spaces without having to roll for Extreme Falling damage (Same odds as molten lava)
Yeah, my first attempt was surrounded by water/sky tiles but this one ended up too big to fully surround. Even with something like 66 water tiles from all those sets wasn't enough to do it.
If you start bumping up the number of master sets required, you can do a few more things. I was just trying to keep the required sets to a minimum so more people could actually build it.
I can add a few more sets and tinker with it some more if you guys want. A RttFF set would give me more of the wall walk/road tiles. Another BftU set (3 in total then) would let me use shadow tiles in place of the current water ones. Might have enough water to surround it after those additions, not sure though. Maybe 2 more Marvel would be enough to tile the top deck like a runway too, but that is 4 Marvel sets it total which is quite a bit.

Yeah, for the sunken propellers, Yodaking's hits the mark a lot better. Actually, with those battlements, it looks kind of like the giant alien ship from the Avengers movie. :-)

Omael - are the propellers meant to cut off like that?
Edit: That does make me think, though, if we could create some sort of DO with a SHIELD symbol sticker on it, it could really help sell some of these maps.

Hey, I said that I wanted to try, cause it looked like everyone else was having fun doing it. But i didn't expect everyone to really hate the map so much.... :reapershrug:
Well I am one and done on it. Good luck to whoever else braves the challenge - it's a tough crowd in here. :runaway:

No offense to any of the others, of course, but I still really like A3n's best. It's abstract enough to be a really fun map (or at least, it LOOKS like a really fun map), but instantly recognizable as the Helicarrier.

To me it's a close race between A3n's and Yodaking's. I like elements of both.

I was thinking of adding the propellers with 7-hex pieces to give it some volume, Also the map is meant to be built on top of it

I bet the gallery goes up this week. Why do I guess that? Because the function of clicking a user's name and viewing what thread they are in is back online, so that means someone is working on the site. :D

Thanks pm!

After you mentioned your big booster purchases, I happened to be in a game store that evening...they had only one box and I was able to peek in the top just enough to see some flames: D'oh-mammu. If I had seen some purple, I might have bought it.

Speaking of T&T, I've been in order limbo with them for over two weeks. This is the first time I've ever had problems with them, but it's just phone tag over and over, and then them cancelling my order because I haven't called them in time. Getting a bit pissed. :p

He's pretty sweet, LP, but I'm having a heck of a time getting him to stand up after taking off his Clix base. His cape is ridiculously heavy in the back. If anyone has any tips on that, they'd be much appreciated!
Yodaking
May 10th, 2012, 01:54 PM
Try to counterbalance the cape by adding weight near the front of the new base you use for him. I've seen people add pennies to the bottom of a base to help keep them from falling over. Exactly what would work best for you will depend on what kind of base you are going to put him on now.

I just bought a bunch a stuff from Troll & Toad, saved $3.02 from the discount code. The code is advertised right on the website too.
Finally added the Hydra faction to my collection. Picked up a figure called Richard Fisk for my Hydra Soldiers. It came out in the Captain America line and is the same sculpt as the Hydra soldiers but with a different name, and much cheaper. Only $.49 for him so I picked up 12 for 3 squads. Then I picked up a pretty cool looking Viper figure (Madam Hydra) from that same line for only $.49 and a Baron Strucker for $4.99. So after the 10% off, it was only $10.22 plus shipping for a whole army.
Also picked up Sif from the Avengers line for $2.99. Since I got lucky and landed the warriors 3 in one of the army packs I bought and Heimdall in a single booster, so she completes the Thor allies set for me. Except for Beta Ray Bill who I can't seem to find in stock at a decent price yet but he is in the new starter set so I should be able to get him sometime soon.
I try to keep my online clix purchases below $2 for the most part. The two figures listed above and Baron Zemo ($1.99) were the only ones that were over $.79 for that order so I have a pretty good haul on it's way. 43 figures in all.

Yeah, the cost of 12 Hydra soldiers at $1-$1.50 each was what had been keeping me from getting them. Then I just happened upon that Fisk figure while browsing the Captain America line for any last minute additions to my order. Then my $25 order soon turned into a $35 order since I had to have Strucker & Madam Hydra to go along with them. I also picked up a Grim Reaper mini so look for a public design for him from me sometime in the future. I'm such an addict.

Somebody had asked for size references for the Galactus Clix a while back. Finally got to it. A couple normal sized figures, the delightfully outsized Dum Dum Dugan, and a Green Construct.
Also, I mention this: bought another Super Booster today, hoping to not get another Giganto, peeked inside... Galactus! So I have one for C3G, and one for a hood ornament when I finally get that Cadillac...

However, a trade of a Marvel set or two may do the trick. ;)

Been doing a little figure painting of late and wanted to share the results. Too many figures to go around and put each one in their book so here is just a single shot of all of them.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/yodaking/Heroscape/City%20Scape/IMG_1494.jpg
Wanted to give my Doc Ock figure a green suit, which turned into a full repaint job. Made myself a Hulkbuster figure out of an Iron Monger and did the Stealth Suit Iron Man repaint as well. The War Machine and Mark II figures were the handful of heros guys that needed paint. Then the last figure is a Mechwarrior clix figure that I'll be using as my Green Construct. It isn't 14 hexes high but will have to do for me since I missed out on the BK figures. I actually kind of like it not being so big anyways, then he can fit into more places on the building heavy boards I like to make.
