So, despite never having much interest in the character, I picked up Ghost Rider: The Life and Death of Johnny Blaze and read it... great stuff and it totally changed my mind on GR.

I had no idea he was that powerful either... definitely a cool guy and someone I look forward to seeing from C3G... shouldn't be a long wait, right? ;)
Is that new Margloth? Johnny Blaze is dead? :(
I would like to see/design a version of Johnny Blaze with the HellFire shotgun for C3G. Anyone know of a suitable mini?
I am glad your eyes have been opened to the pure essence of greatness that is the Spirit of Vengeance, Margloth. :) My skull is on fire in anticipation of his possible release.

One of the Yoda (Yoda Junkie or Yoda King I think) members on this site sells them on Ebay, and also at Impact Miniatures (http://impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=basing).

Cavern Circuit!?! I'm going out on a limb here because it might be q's map, but I think that one needs help. The big empty spaces separating the middle and no glyhp means no reason to use that middle area. The whole game will take place in the two narrow strips at the exits from the starting zones. Honestly, I'm surprised that map has made it this far.

Reputation Power is a base of 1 as soon as a member reaches the minimum use restrictions of 30 posts and 20 Reputation Points total. This base is further modified by the following bonuses:

Not 100% sure, but I think it was some sort of malicious attack.

It must have been those crazy Heroclix fans... all bitter that their favorite game pieces work better as resources for the C3G than they do for their own game.

Pfft, who am I kidding, I agree with him.

Yeah, I got worried when the site went dark too. My first thought was that I don't have contact info for any of you guys or the HoSS guys. My second thought was, oh no...all those custom terrain threads I wanted to try.
That does remind me that we need a backup system for communications. We do have an email list of all our members and some fans, but we need an offsite forum or something where we can all gather in a situation like this. :)

Of course not - unless I'm mistaken, the Skrulls are owned by Sony movie-wise, because they're part of the Fantastic Four package. Same reason Silver Surfer wasn't able to be used in the Planet Hulk DTV. It doesn't rule out shape-shifting alien invaders, though... the shape-shifting alien bad guys from Ultimates seem like a real possibility, as they fulfill the same role.

The film will be an hour long, but the plan is to break it up into 6 episodes, ten minutes each, and release 1 per month hopefully starting in April. It will be released on youtube for everyone to see. We've been doing photoshoots with the actors for the movie posters and I think they came out pretty good (still have to get the actress playing oracle to come in as well as the guy playing Bullock). When the director calls me back I'll see if he can send me over a few of them and I'll post them.

So Red Eyed Jedi and I just played two games of C3G scape online.

In the first game, it was a Doctor Doom tank for me, and a modified Fantastic Four for REJ. I was attempting to keep Doom as buffed as possible, but he went down after dishing out a few wounds. The rest of the army fell shortly after that incident, and REJ walked away with all of his figures.

In the second game, it was my Yellow Lanterns against REJ's Hawkmen. Arkillo got killed early from an unlucky roll, so the remaining Soldiers and Sinestro had to brawl with the Hawks. Sinestro killed Hawkgirl, but then the Thanagarians mauled Sinestro to death.

So I'm 0-2 for C3G Online! Thanks a bunch REJ for playing!

But Fantasy Flight Games has rebooted it so to speak, but in the Twighlight Imperium world of their Twighlight Imperium game. Anyway, one of the guys in my gaming group is connected with various game companies and he is one of their main playtesters, so he brought the prototype of the new version of Dune to our game nights for a couple nights of playtesting. The new game is called Rex: Final Days of an Empire.

Anyway, since the game is about to be released, they posted the final rulebook and on page 30, I got acknowledged as an official playtester. I'm Greg and the ones in red are in my gaming group. We have over 30 in the group, but these were the ones testing this game.

Cool, hopefully you'll get to try a bunch of new fun games. :D

Rex is a game that you really need 5 or 6 players to get the best out of it, so that's something to think about. Inca Empire is good with 3 or 4.

I ordered the ordered all 6 adventure packs and the large expansion for the Lord of the Rings: The card game, as I've only had the core set. It's a cool solo or 2 player co-op game. You can play with 3 or 4, but you'd have to use something else as threat dials for the extra players as the core set only comes with 2. I also ordered Blood Bowl: Team Manager. I've played that once and it's pretty fun. It can be played with 2-4 players but I think 3 players is the sweet spot as there is more interaction (confrontations) than with 2 players and 4 players is a longer game. But I'm sure it's fun regardless and I only played 3 player so that's all I can go by.

Dune is really fun. I've been keeping an eye on Rex to see if it's going to be as good or not. That's really cool that you've gotten into a regular gaming group. Mine has gotten a bit irregular. Have you hooked any of them on 'scape yet?

Hahma
February 5th, 2012, 08:26 PM
I've had a couple people try it and I'm having a couple different people come over next weekend to try it. One of them has played it before but the other hasn't. I'm going to make sure they at least get one Superheroscape game in. I'm debating whether to start out with Classic to teach the basics to the new guy before introducing the more complex Supers. Though, these guys are smart and have played many different games over the years, so maybe I'll come out of the gate with Supers. I'm pretty much just going to officiate :D

While I'd love to get guys in the group hooked to Scape, it's tough because we've got over 1,000 different games owned by people in our group and that number keeps growing, so getting to repeat a certain game often isn't something that's likely with these guys. Certain games get more play than others, but 2 player games are tough because we usually have 10-20 people show up every week.

I never played Dune, but from what I gather from the others in the group that had played it, Rex is pretty similar but with the Twighlight Imperium theme. It was pretty cool, though it was the unfinished product when I played it.

Well actually, after just checking our Board Game Geek list, there are 90 pages of games with 25 on each page, though a lot of them are including expansions. So still, a good bit. The thing is that games can be addicting and a lot of people just keep buying them :)

I think 2-player games are an interesting topic, especially for this group. For me, I think to myself, "What reason do I have for playing this 2-player game instead of Heroscape?" And, frankly, I'll probably be getting rid of a bunch of 2-player games that I've held on to because they're good games but they're not getting played because I'd rather be playing Heroscape.

For example, Hahma mentioned Summoner Wars, which is nice but I only play it over Heroscape if portability is an issue.

Well I love Heroscape, but I've played the crap out of it since it came out, though more with superheroes obviously over the past couple years. There are plenty of other 2 player games out there that are fun too and while they are not Heroscape, they don't have to be for me to really enjoy. I spent 15 years in a Strat-O-Matic Hockey league, where we played all 82 games and playoffs, with each game taking 45 min to an hour. That's a two player game and as much as I loved it, I look back and think that putting that much time into one game (aside from Heroscape) was very limiting. Last year was my last year in the league and I can't say how glad I am that I quit. Since then I've discovered a ton of other great games and people to game with.

Besides, I like different themes and game mechanics and while I love Heroscape, I wouldn't dream of limiting myself to just that game.

I agree that Summoner Wars is one of the very best 2 player games, ever. Just so solid, in my opinion.

You also might like trying some games that offer something very different than Scape. Not sure what your thing is, but my wife and I have really enjoyed Kingdom Builder, Lost Cities, Eminent Domain, Race for the Galaxy, San Juan, Dominion, and several others. Some of the best two player games, imo, are not just for two players.

I love being able to say, "What are you in the mood for?" and then having the perfect game for the evening. Are you looking for anything in particular? A different itch/desire to try to fill?

quozl
February 6th, 2012, 01:07 PM
Oh, I wouldn't either! I've played hundreds of 2-player games and Heroscape is one of my favorites. I also have hundreds of games and am trying to weed out the good ones so I only have the best ones. Let me give some more examples so it hopefully shows you what I mean.

Heroscape: if I'm looking for a 2-player game with lots of comabt and dice-rolling and I'm home and I have about an hour

Summoner Wars: very much like Heroscape but I'm away from home and I have about an hour

Ace of Aces: even more portable than Summoner Wars because it's just two books - one for each player

Go: I choose this when I'm in the mood for a no-luck abstract game. If my opponent doesn't know Go, Chess is fine. I even have a chess variant where you build an army with a point system.

Hill 218: a fun, no-luck card game that plays in about 5-10 minutes.

Space Station Assault: very similar to Hill 218 but has many more units and takes twice as long

Space Hulk: it fits into the Herosacpe timeframe but it's a lot different in feel, more like the Aliens movie

WARS CCG: I love this game but it really only gets played when I just don't feel like messing with all the map and miniature pieces of Heroscape since it takes about the same time. It's also more portable than Summoner Wars since it's just cards.

Scarab Lords/Minotaur Lords/Blue Moon - these are all a bit like Magic the Gathering except they're not collectible. Very fun but it seems like I'm always choosing another game over them.

Diceland: not really much out there like it but you have to be in the right mood. Each die is a unit and they attack each other as you throw them on the table.

Old wargames (like Afrika Korps, Tactics II, Squad Leader): I play these when I want something more involved than Heroscape and I have the time and my wargame buddy comes over.

As you can see, there's a lot of variety but still some overlap. And when new games comes out, I think to myself, "When would I choose to play it over what I already have?" If I can't think of an answer it doesn't get bought (most of the time - sometimes the addiction gets the best of me).

I tried Heroscape once or twice with my buddy, but he didn't seem too terribly interested and didn't pick up the mechanics very quickly (maybe I'm a bad teacher?) and the set up time for Scape can be a bit of a bear, so for those reasons and the sake of variety, it's not something I play with him a whole lot. Also, I get in plenty of Scape already with C3G testing.

Memoir 44, however, has been getting frequent play here, Hambone.

Summoner Wars is amazing. The Master Set has a great board and six factions. Those six factions will give you a ton of variety, and that variety increases further as you add more factions. Unlike many games where the base game doesn't really feel satisfying unless you do purchase the expansions, the six factions in the Master Set will give you 30 different ways to experience it (15 combinations x 2 since you can play as either side). Reinforcement packs are purely optional, as the standard faction decks have vast re-playability.

Formula D (formerly Formula De) is a Formula 1 board game that allows up to 10 players. Even with fewer players, you could have each person field more than one car. This is one of the few games where I don't add the more advanced rules (weather, tire types, 3-lap races), as the standard rules are fun enough on their own.

Dominion is incredibly imaginative, and it'll take a few games to get used to playing. I've had a chance to play this with my brother, and our games tend to go long due to neither of us being very efficient in play. :D

Memoir 44 and Battlelore are a lot of fun. Memoir 44 tends to be easier for me, as Battlelore includes more things out of the box that make things more complicated. Memoir 44 out of the standard box almost seems too simplistic. Instead of a Beer and Pretzels game, it's more of a Lemonade and Gummy Bears game. The expansions have added a lot more meat to this. It plays really quickly. Battlelore has some really interesting mechanics, and I think in some ways it's better. However, this game has a very bizarre release history. Hahma mentioned Command and Colors: Ancients. I haven't played this, but many players attest that it's the best of the series.

Castle Ravenloft/Wrath of Ashardalon/Legend of Drizzt are games in a line called D&D Adventures. This can be easily played solo, which is what attracted me to the series. With multiple players, it's a cooperative game. It doesn't have many rules, which does create questions with some of the cards that you might have to rule on the fly. Each is really stand-alone, so you don't really have to worry about getting them all.

Cosmic Wimpout. Yes, I said it. It's a version of a dice game called Farkle, but it has Cosmic Wimpout dice instead. :) It's completely random, and has even less options for players than Farkle.

Those are some of my favorites.

Oh, and congrats, Lord Pyre!

i really like wrath, ravenloft and drizzt, i recently purchased everything. I used it to play something when we were 5 players since i have sometimes troubles with 5 people playing HS. Also a good reason to get those are the spider which are a good proxy for fyorlangs, more orcs for the raiders, more goblins for the cutters, and more red ant swarms for pym.

I've played Space Alert once. It was pretty cool. It's frantic mayhem fun as it is played with a CD that warns you of different nasty things coming your way, communications breakdown etc. While the CD is playing, you have to arrange your orders as to what you are going to have your guy do and where he's going. When the CD stops for that mission, your time is up and then you resolve everyone's actions compared to the threats that came up when the CD was playing. You have to make sure there is ammo/energy for the cannons and other various things and make sure you have a guy firing in the right sector that the threat is coming from. I believe we had 4 players playing and you can discuss what you're going to do as you place your orders and there's a certain time (brief) that the CD allows you to exchange orders.

Anyway, it's a fun co-op game. I don't know for sure, but I imagine it's best with several players.

Very cool, Griff. Love the rose thing. And I wish I had a castle to take my wife to. :) All sounds very meaningful to me.

Like SirG, I do something different each year. We always go out to somewhere that she enjoys--a current favorite restaurant, the beach, a local botanical garden, something that she enjoys. And I always get her something. (Recently, bless her, she's been into games enough that I've given her some games--always games that she likes more than me. Games like San Juan and Ticket to Ride that she considers "her" games, verses games like Scape, Sum Wars, or Risk Legacy, which are "my" games.)

Also, like Sir G, I find something written and personal is most important. The years that I haven't written something meaningful were clearly a let down to her.

For our 15th we're going on a cruise, if we can save up enough pennies. (This year is our 14th, in April; we weren't 18 when we got married ;)...)

You know what? I never thought to build a castle. That is crazy! I must do it. :D

You can check it out here: Wemyss Castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wemyss_Castle)

The Shearin Family married the lady of the castle a looooong time ago and took it, as her line had diminished and she was the sole heir. I now have Wemyss relatives here in NC as well as in Scotland (not including my family, the Shearin Clan otherwise known as the Prendergast Clan before my line made a more Gaelic version of the name with Shearin).

Oddly enough, I did make a really cool scenario and map for the Battle of Sedgemoor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Sedgemoor). That is where the Monmouth rebelion of 1685 was ended by the Catholic King James II. The rebellion was doing very well and they would have overtaken the King and his camp by night at the rhine of Sedgemoor, when a rebel scout accidentally bumped into a King's Guard and the Guard fired a musket alerting the King's army. The Royal Army, having height advantage and heavy cavalry for flanking, destroyed the entire rebellion (3,500 men) that was caught sneaking through the rhine. My Great x10 Grandfather Aaron Shearin and his brother Moses Shearin were part of the rebellion and were captured and sold into slavery. Their master was Major Gideon Macon of the Common Wealth of Virgina.

So not only was my family one of the older families in the "New World", but we are one of just a few white families that started in this country as slaves.

My last name is Downey, which is anglicized from the Irish word for hill, so unfortunately it's origin is a little unclear. Depending on which clan I'm descended from's suffix or prefix is, my crest is either red with 3 lions, or blue with 2 pigs.

The problem is, I've lost track of the first Downey emigrant's whereabouts before coming to America. I've loosely put together that he was from Armagh, North Ireland... But that's about all I know.

While there is no official recognized link (other than the movie, which married two totally seperate characters, Slade and Caretaker, into one) there are several alluded to links. A) Phantom Rider's original name was Ghost Rider but it was changed retroactively when the Johnny Blaze character was created. B) It has often been mentioned that Johnny was not the first Ghost Rider and that others came before him. C) Finally, Carter Slade's decendent, Hamilton became a modern day Phantom Rider. Years later, his son, J.T. became a member of Nick Fury's Secret Warriors. He was better known as Hellfire, who wielded a chain of Unholy Hellfire. Interesting coincidence, no? ;)

Mallah and the Brain are undoubtedly the most romantic pairing in comics. It's so... strange! A true love of the mind, not the body. *nodnod*

That's only because he cut out how it ends. In a tribute to the then recently departed Heath Ledger, Mallah replies, "I just can't quit you."

Doom Patrol, actually. Though there is some overlap. :p

(Man, speaking of which, when is C3G getting around to the Doom Patrol? Even though there's no figure for Negative Man...)

Seriously, other than the fact he is a man (which doesn't matter in Heroscape because gender is not a game mechanic), what is the difference between them?

johnny139
February 15th, 2012, 09:42 PM
Mechanically, I can't see there being much of a difference, but it's a thematic thing. You could easily design, say, Nova (the Frankie Raye version) to fit in with the rest of the Fantastic Four, but she's NOT the Human Torch, power-wise or not.

Not really, because Hawkman and Hawkgirl have used different weapons for most of their continuity. It wasn't until Justice League cartoon came out she started wielding the mace. Prior to that she always wielded ranged weapons where he wielded close combat weapons.

Also, they were never on the team at the same time nor do I think they have any connection other than the same power set. A more similiar comparison is Firestar (Angelica Jones) and Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida). Except people care about the two of them more (they DO each have their own minis!)
