I just think Marian Cotillard (I know I spelled that name wrong, the French lady) is just as sexy and a much better actress than Anne Hathaway, and that Catwoman is a difficult concept to 'sell' in the Nolan-verse. But after Dark Knight it's hard to imagine him screwing up anything too badly.
IAmBatman
August 8th, 2011, 05:42 PM
Sure, but Talia is just as sexy as Catwoman, so there you go on the sexy front. I think both are solid actresses. Don't underestimate Hathaway's acting chops.
And why is Catwoman a difficult concept to sell? She's no less realistic than Batman himself.
Margloth

Because bats are cool and cats are ridiculous. :D
I dunno, because why would a woman who is a master thief take on the cat motif (in the near-reality that is the Nolan-verse).
EDIT: And currently, Frenchie's not playing Talia, to my knowledge, unless there's some trickery going on.

Has anyone else seen the movie "Bronson?"
It's an exaggerated take on a true story, about the life of Britain's 'most notorious criminal'... a guy who gets jailed for 7 years for a relatively simple robbery... then decides he likes the infamy and starts becoming the worst possible inmate he can be. The guy was imprisoned in 1982 and is still in jail today, so I guess he's doing pretty well on his project.
It's some dark subject matter, and a quirky film, so it's not for all tastes, but it stars Tom Hardy (Bane in Dark Knight Rises), and he is awesome.
He's huge, consistently interesting, terrifying, and hilarious at the same time. Really making me look forward to Bane... even made me think, "Man, this guy woulda made a great Joker!" (He's got an extended run as an evil clown in Bronson).

Apparently, Books A Million is converting some of their shops into 2nd & Charles, a used/discount/some new shop for books, multimedia, etc.
We just had one convert here in Dayton; I got several collections for $4.97 each (God Loves, Man Kills was one of them). Got some oddball stuff, since it was cheap.
Thunderbolts, Hitman (unfortunately, they didn't have much DC stuff, but like 4 bookshelves of Marvel), Moon Knight, God Loves, Man Kills and Hit-Monkey (have you ever even heard of Hit-Monkey? Actually a decent read about a master assassin who happens to be a baboon). Good times!

I've been number one on posts for ages (but, yes, thanks to C3G). It took me a little while to pass Necro, Rev, and Onacara, but I did it. :-P And now I've doubled everyone behind me, with Griff the closest one nipping at my heels.
I wanted to post here real quickly to report on an awesome casual match I just had (casual play by me you say? Insane!).
But it was a lot of fun and a match up I had to try. For a while now I've been thinking Darkseid, Grundy, and Sinestro is just a killer army for 1,000 points, and I like it a lot. I love, especially, how it has two guys from our first master set in it and one guy from our Wave 2. So guys who have been around for a while. Well, recently, a good friend let me know that he thought the new Hulk was pretty amazing when used alongside Graviton, and that the new Red Skull was amazing as well. I realized these guys together came in at 1,000 points and I knew I had to try it.
Theoryscaping, I figured Hulk and gang, especially on the power of Graviton's grip, Red Skull's Cosmic Cube, and Red Skull's motivational abilities would just tear apart the other side.
But, when the smoke cleared, Darkseid had taken apart Red Skull and Graviton with his special and normal attacks, then put all but one wound on Hulk, before Hulk finished tearing him apart! Darkseid also used the Cosmic Cube a few times to move wounds over to Hulk's card before taking a wound himself for holding the card. Hulk, full of wounds, rolled as many as 11 attack dice at the end (it'd be 12 if not for Darkseid's intimidation) and put the last four wounds on Darkseid in brutal fashion. By now, Grundy, who died early at the hands of Red Skull and Graviton, had been resurrected and waited near Sinestro in my startzone. Since Hulk killed Darkseid (who'd engaged him while he had only one life left) on turn 3 of the round, he ended the round not engaged to anyone, and soothed between rounds. This left a one life, 6 defense Hulk, who was easy prey for Sinestro's special attack. Sinestro took the first attack from Hulk, using his power shield to shrug off a 4 skull attack, then unleashed his special attack - 4 skulls versus Hulk's reduced defense of 4. No contest. Dead Hulk.
My crack team blows away the challengers with a 2 wound Grundy and a full life Sinestro with 3 of 4 power batteries standing victorious. :-)

I think I've said this before david, but I'm going to say it again: how do you come up with this stuff? You always keep me laughing :)
Ever since I discovered Mad Magazine as a child, I've wanted to be funny. However, that didn't come naturally to me as it does for some, so I had to work at it a bit more. I've also tried to mimic other comedians and failed, because I didn't analyze the material to understand why they were funny. For example, Steve Martin was a huge influence on me. I tried to mimic his random absurdity, but there's a lot of skill in his material that I didn't understand, as just tossing in random stuff isn't the entirety of what makes his stuff work.
Over a long period of watching a variety of comedians and finally thinking more deeply about what makes comedy funny, the things I've been able to develop began to improve, and my stuff started making people laugh. Since I've spent so much time trying to come up with funny things, my subconscious has started taking over, and it comes more naturally to me now. I've had moments when I've awakened from a dream laughing from a joke my dream state came up with.
It isn't unlike training in any skill. When you first learned to drive a car, you probably spent a lot of time having to force yourself to pay attention to each detail. Hands at 10-2 o'clock. Check the rearview mirror. What's my speed? Over time, everything clicks and it becomes a more natural process, as you're able to do things at an instinctive level.
Rules and mistakes I've learned, and this isn't exhaustive by any means:
* The things that make dirty jokes funny are the same as the things that make clean jokes funny. If you can't be funny clean, you can't be funny dirty.
* Related to that, trying to be funny with profanity is like trying to scare people by going, "Boo!" You're only triggering a reflex. However, profanity can enhance already funny material in the same way salt can enhance the taste of food.
* Respect your audience. A lot of comedians don't heed this. I once saw Kathy Griffin on TV where she was invited to a community event, and she blurted a curse word to a shocked crowd. Wrong! There are times and places for that.
Sorry about focusing so much on profanity, but this area is the one where most people who try to be funny really stumble. Some more...
* Humor is the art of misdirection. As you're speaking, or as the reader reads, they are interpreting your material. Humor is the art of making an unexpected switch. This is how puns work.
* Timing is important. Again, your audience is interpreting your material. If you spend too much time setting up your punchline, you can tire your audience, or they will guess your punchline. If you're writing a funny story, or telling a long joke or series of jokes, you have to be mindful to have funny stuff distributed throughout. A long period of seriousness allows your audience to settle, and it'll be more difficult to make them laugh.
* One way to create something funny is by combining unrelated things.
* Another way to create something funny is by taking a figure of speech or other non-literal remark literally. Example: I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse! You could come up with something funny for that.
* Self-confidence is important if you're delivering material verbally. If you're nervous, you'll make your audience nervous.
I've gone long again, but I wanted to take your question seriously and share some of my own insight.

I've been storing my Heroclix stuff in craft boxes that have deep compartments and dividers. I found them at Michaels. However, I really needed some more, and I haven't found any in stock at the nearby stores. I've attempted to get others, but I haven't been happy with them. One has a lot of smallish areas which don't have any room for figures, so it just adds bulk without any benefit.
Then I thought about the storage I use for my regular Heroscape stuff. I've found this perfect, and it holds a lot of figures. It's the Stanley XL Tool Organizer, and I've found them at Home Depot.
I bought two this weekend, and I might need to pick up one more if I can't fit everything in one. I need one for my D&D scape/C3V that I've simply packed in tackle boxes.
Here's a pic with my Heroscape stuff. Two of these store all my stuff up through Wave 9, with room in one of the drawers for dice/markers/etc. I should be able to fit a ton of my Heroclix stuff in this. My plan is to label the compartments, then enter the location in a spreadsheet. Whenever I need to find a figure, I'll reference the location. I'll also record the location on the backs of my army cards. This should help me immensely, as I'm having a very difficult time finding what I need.

I'll give you guys a heads up quick...
I know I've been pretty MIA this entire summer, which really sucks, but I've been so darned busy... I'm a Junior this year, but my first two years of college I went to a local 2 year school, so I commuted from home. I figured out where I was going and had a huge hassle getting into the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, but I finally got in. Then I had some crazy drama going on with my family, which boiled down to them being upset that I wasn't home as much as I used to be, since I was working and hanging out with my girlfriend (Whom I've been dating for a year and a month now! :D ). So on top of me being gone already, I was avoiding home a lot, too. So I got virtually no testing done... But this afternoon I finally moved into my dorm (First time away from home!!), so I figure I'll be around quite a bit more, now! I don't know if I'll be able to do any testing (I didn't bring my board, just figures to repaint and rebase), I'm going to see if there's any extra room and figure it out later. I'm only about an hour and a half away from home, so I can get back if I need to. (I just don't have a car, so I need to procure a ride. :p ).
So anyway, there's my summer life story in a big run-on paragraph. You guys are awesome, and I hope to be able to contribute more in the near future! :D

I can make tacos in Hong Kong, but that doesn't change the fact that it is still Mexican food. :p It has everything to do with the origin of the recipe, not the geographic location of where it is made. Foster's Lager isn't all that popular in Aussie Land because it hasn't been marketed there in over 10 years. The Foster's Group has focused its international sells elsewhere.
Also, Canada is just one of the many countries that Foster's is brewed in, US being one of them.

I began transferring my clix to my Stanley XL Tool Organizer, and I won’t be able to store everything in just one. I’ve got 356 figures in the first box, and I have reserved room for some other figures.
Before transferring figures, I labeled each drawer and compartment, plus assigned an ID to the toolbox. As I transferred figures, I typed them into an Excel spreadsheet.
As I was preparing for my recent playtest, it was amazing how useful the spreadsheet was in locating the figures. I still have several figures dumped into each bin, but at least I know exactly where to look now. I estimate this saved me anywhere from 5-15 minutes. As I remove the figures, I type Y in the Out column, then sort by Out to put the removed figures at the top. After I completed the test, I consulted the spreadsheet, and returned the figures to their exact location and cleared the Out column.
If I need to reorganize, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I just edit the location to reflect the new one. I may do this to put Mutants in the same spot, Superman figures in the same spot, Batman figures in the same spot, etc.
What makes this exercise necessary for me is that I’ve been ordering the same figures multiple times. I have two Iron Fists, three Blinks, two Trapsters, etc. I now have something I can consult when I place my orders.
I’m thrilled I’ve finally gotten around to doing this. I still have more work to do, plus I have several flying figures that need basing. Just thought I’d pass it along for anyone curious.

I need to get a better system for organizing my c3g figures. Right now I've got them divided into two drawers in my heroscape storage towers labled marvel and dc, and all the characters that havent been designed go into some empty cell phone boxes my wife gets from work. There is no way with this setup to prevent accidently getting multiples, thus multiples of chronos, catman, ect. The good thing about multiples though is they can be used for customizing.

OK...this is an old conversation now, but here is why I made the Foster's comment (keep in mind, I don't drink beer, so I have no idea about Foster's being good or bad):
I was traveling last week with a group for work. One of the members of our group is Australian. At dinner one night we were asking him about growing up in Australia, when he moved to the US, etc. Anyway, at one point somebody mentioned Foster's and he said, "Foster's isn't Australian for beer, Foster's is Australian for Cat Pi$$."
I just think it's galactically ironic that Foster's markets its beer as "Australian" when Australians think it's crap.

I have been ordering multiples by accident recently also. I like the spreadsheet linkage, now if you can just tie it into a inventory conveyor system you'll be onto something.:) I need to teach my son and daughter to use the "Out" box or it will all be moot.

Also, my Sinestro mini is hot on the market in my 'clix group. It's worth $55, so when Superman set comes out, I'm trading it for a ton of stuff. I have been compiling my various wants for a while. Hey, did any of you guys see Warrior over the weekend. Holy crap, what a movie. I've heard Tom Hardy's performance in Bronson was amazing, but he just kicked so much arse in this that it made me really look forward to the next Batman flick. I was actually pretty disappointed that they didn't pick someone more menacing, but now, I'm jazzed. Awesome movie, you should all go see the Warrior right now. I've had big plans for quite a while for SnappleScape. Unfortunately, it's been an experiment with a Axis/Allies/Scape combo (too long) then I moved on to a FireEmblem/Scape combo which is super awesome and touches on Heroes of Scape type of stuff, but heavily focused on scripted scenarios. Very much like D&D, but more units on your team and simplified abilities/leveling to get that army feel. Then I was really big into a MtG/Scape combo where you're basically playing magic, but with a map and minis. Awesome and fun, but who has enough magic and scape to really have fun with it? Plus, if you've got Summoner Wars, this is only marginally better. Actually if you like a nice 3d map with sweet minis, it's leaps and bounds better, but only for those with hundreds in disposable income :)
Bottom line, I'm still waiting for the perfect SnappleScape inspiration, but it will come and it will be glorious!

The Star Wars minis I bought were the most expensive. I purchased the figs for C3V's Wave 14, and they came in over what I've paid for Classic Scape. Due to this, I may just resort to proxying the stuff after. Edit: I may have to re-assess my comparison between C3V and Classic, as it might have been closer to the same rather than over. I guess I based this on the last purchase of three different squads from a company that was around $75, which is pretty steep. I did have to order from more sources to get the C3V stuff, so that may factor in whether to continue to get those.
Due to the scattered approach to collecting C3G, I don't have a good feel for it. Most have been very cheap, with a few that hit the wallet. I've also purchased figures to play other Superhero customs, such as Matt Helm's. I think the main thing that helps Superhero Scape has been the hero-heavy nature, which makes proxying squads easier (though I have purchased many of the squads). In Classic, you're fielding multiple squad types, so proxying is a bit more difficult. So I'm thinking C3G has been the least expensive of the group.

Brave and the Bold is the best show on television, though. :p I do generally find teenage drama overdone in these sorts of shows (Teen Titans really got weighed down with it in parts, as did X-Men Evolution), but Greg Weisman is good enough at plotting to balance the action and the character development.

G4. I've been watching that and the Iron Man anime - they're animated and done entirely in Japan, but based on American concept and creative teams.
Both are... interesting. Iron Man isn't very good; the action is stiff, the plots are boring, all that. But it's interesting just to see how the Japanese interpret such an overtly American character - he's very over-the-top and obnoxious, but well-meaning and good at the core. I imagine that's how they see us as a nation, y'know?
Wolverine is awesome, though. But, I'm biased - the plot is based on Mariko Yashida and the Yashida Clan, teaming up with a corrupt businessman related to AIM and based in Madripoor. It's literally all of my favorite Wolverine stuff all rolled up into a nice, tightly-plotted package with some great, brutal action.
I mean, in America, Wolverine NEVER gets to sharpen his claws on real flesh-and-blood humans. But in Japan, he's painting the town red. Very visceral, very Wolverine.
...though the purists might not be able to handle his new look.

Those are some pretty long locks of hair around his face.... It is so typical for the Japanese. They give their lead men slinder faces, feminine eyes, and long sissy hair (usually teased).

Ah, you've clearly missed the raw testosterone of HOKUTO NO KEN (http://youtu.be/po77bJk1DdI), with its constant shirt-exploding, face-melting, body-breaking action. The amount of burly post-apocalyptic muscle men would make Mad Max himself blush. :p
The feminization of the male hero in Japan is actual a fairly recent trend, and points to some very interesting cultural functions (or, as some sociologists would argue, dysfunctions) in their current society. Of course, the body pillows and "Love Plus" video games are the other half of that...

See, I started watching Wolverine and the X-Men when it first aired, but gave up after two or three episodes. How does it compare to, say, the Avengers, or even the older X-Men cartoons? I've heard good things, but I'm not sure if I should bother checking it out.

It's the best X-Men cartoon I've seen on TV (of three). I'd put it on par with the Avengers cartoon for me. But I came in without too many X-Men biases or fandom baggage since I don't really read X-Men.
