I actually really liked Mr. Glass. But I am a villain buff. He was a great modern interpretation of the typical golden age villain - the exact opposite of his protagonist.

I just didn't find him threatening at all. The climactic show down was Bruce arriving at Mr. Glass's apartment and then a bunch of text up on the screen. yaaaaawn.

I think you were projecting what you wanted out of the movie though. There was some action, but it wasn't an action movie. It was meant to be a homage to the comic book industry and how it has changed the way we perceive struggle and conflict between good and evil. I enjoyed it, though I will admit, it was very artsy.

I have no idea where to post this, but I saw the lock on the Grenade Bandolier and wanted to toss out a thought on a way to pick a range for a future "throwable object" glyph of some sort. Make range = height (heightx2 for Superstrength). No fix for the glyph=SA issue though...

For movies, the ones I own are:

1) The Incredibles. If you want to get someone into Supers it doesn't get any better than this. No other Supers movie is more universally accessable.

2) Batman Begins/Dark Knight. Both excellent movies for anyone who grew up with Frank Miller's Batman.

3) Spiderman/Spiderman2. Give Spidey (and Sam Raimi) credit - he singlehandedly revitalized Superhero movies.

4) XMen/XMen2. I was actually pretty disappointed in the storylines they chose for these movies. The actors were great. The action was great. The storylines were a bit underwhelming.

5) Sky High. I never understood why this didn't get more geek love. It's light and fluffy, but a lot of fun nevertheless.

~Aldin, because when everyone's super... no one will be

Hmm, who would have thunk that what I want out of a movie and what I find exciting to watch would be one and the same? :-P

Unbreakable was a lot like the first Superman, except worse. It was great all the way through until the absolutely boring, chopped off, anti-climactic ending. Seeing Bruce Willis discover his superpowers in a really highly believable way was great. But Mr. Glass was a yawn and a fail.

My gosh, Unbreakable was a work of ART. Mr. Glass was perfect! Opposite in every way, entirely obsessed.

And heck, everything in the movie was art. The colors!! Green for David, purple for Elijah. The colors were everywhere! And then have the movie's scenes were framed like comic book panels! Just watch it from the beginning again, and you'd see that, it's really cool.

Yeah, it's not an action movie, it's about comics. And it pulled it off perfectly.

I agree that it was a really cool movie and I liked every bit of it a whole lot other than the ending, which I just found really anti-climactic after a long build up. I didn't think the movie did a very good job of hitting the right "notes" at the end.
But, to each their own.

Well, I agree is wasn't very exciting, but considering one point of the movie is that David is actually a real human who found powers, he did what a normal person would have done. So I think it fit perfectly.

If I wanted it to be exactly like real life, I'd watch a documentary. :-P The magic of movies is that they can make the universe of the movie feel real to you while making it exciting. Good movies can get away with doing one of these, but great movies really need to do both.
So, IMO, Unbreakable was good but not great, due to the lackluster ending.

A buddy of mine saw unbreakable before me and described it as "issue 0 of a really cool comic book". I enjoyed it, but didnt have any desire to watch it more than once.

Where's the love for Mystery Men? Or Hancock?
Hancock was horrible. :puke: Garbage... just absolute garbage.

Oh, it wasn't that bad. I liked the first half, with the "homeless superhero" bit, but then it got into reincarnations or soul-mates or whatever the hell that was about and just kinda veered into a trainwreck. They had some good stuff to start with, though, I think.

Trying to find the right place to put in this request.

As most of you know, I have been and will always be a strong supporter of the C3G. This year, I will again be running a C3G-allowed tournament in Madison. I am looking for anyone who would be willing to offer a C3G-related prize. It can be as simple as a single figure rebased or as complex as a Master Set with printed cards. If anyone is interested in supplying a prize, send me a PM. I appreciate the work you all have done to make C3G the great enterprise it has become.

Sincerely,
ET

The problem with that is that all the funny scenes in the early part of the movie were old hat for me by the time I hit the theaters because they were played so incessantly in the previews! Men in Black 2 had the same problem ... not that many good scenes, and all the best ones were ruined by the previews.

I don't remember seeing the previews, which helped. :p Kung Pow: Enter the Fist had the same problem. But I didn't see the trailers until after the movie for that one, either, so that's all good. :p

I'm going to be gone from the site for noone knows how long. Due to financial troubles I am leaving tomorrow for North Dakota to try and find a job. When I am able to get back on I hope to see this group still going strong. It has been a pleasure to get to know everyone in the group as well as work along side of you to design these amazing units. Hopefully Karat will step up to fill my shoes in the playtesting area as he is close to be being as a good as I am in that area. The designs I have in the public design thread (minus the Horsemen) are open for anyone who wants them.

It's great. Everything is always in the condition specified when ordering the item (almost always near mint), and the boxes come tightly packed with styrofoam. I highly recommend them for getting cheap singles, however, you're better off attempting to trade for the pricier ones.

Some figures might be a little bendy (my Molly was), but nothing that can't be fixed with a little wedging between two books. Very well handled, I would say.

I mean, honestly, the figures I got out of an official booster were in worse condition. So, that says something.

Huh, for those interested in getting some extra hype for the new Master Set, Hulu has the entire series run of FANTASTIC FOUR: WORLD'S GREATEST HEROES (http://www.hulu.com/fantastic-four-tv) streaming. I liked the fact that Alyssa Milano was one of the voices on Spectre:) I didn't get a chance to watch the Jonah Hex one because the kids were waking up from nap time and I wanted to make sure that it didn't have anything I didn't want them to see in it. In fact it was that Green Arrow short that led to me doing my Merlyn write up.

Hope you're not tired of Green Lantern yet... 'cause EMERALD KNIGHTS (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810199121/video/24286898) is coming this June!

Looks pretty cool; so far, it seems to be six interlocking shorts, focusing on Abin Sur, Sinestro, Kilowog, Mogo, Rori Dag, and... one other guy who's still unconfirmed, with Hal training Arisia as an overarching "link" of sorts.

Looks pretty cool; I love vignette-type movies, and it seems this one'll have the Sinestro Corps in it, which is just icing on the cake.

But man, I'm way behind on the DC DTVs. I've only seen three of the ten!

C3G is the greatest thing that has ever happened on this site to me. I think it's fair to say that the cards are aimed towards a more mature audience. Not because the cards are "R" rated, but because they require a certain amount of intellect to play. They tend to be on the complicated side and I love it. Unfortunately, this usually means that my son (6 years old) is unable to really play these cards.

With the release of Marvelscape, the backs of the cards were used in a basic game that stripped the cards of their powers, but upped many of the stats to compensate. To me, this wasn't necessary because most of the figures were quite simple and didn't need this basic rule set. But with C3G being geared for an older player, is it perhaps warranted to create some of these basic versions. I know for a fact that my son and I would play with a basic Fantastic Four or a basic X-Men.

This is something I just want to throw out there and see if there's any interest. I don't even think it's something that the heroes would need to spend much time on. It could be something that's handled by the Sidekicks, perhaps.

I agree, C3G is awesome, and the only reason I come to this site.

I think Spidey or Tickle or someone brought that up to me the other day, and my opinion is this: If a creative mind and an artist can put them together, I would review them (not playtest, as I don't think it is necessary at all) and propose that they be released as C3G Official.
The key for me is that it doesn't become the responsibility of the sanctum in any way other than reviewing the final product. Just a couple of guys who want to get a few or all of the cards done. Maybe you should find an artist to help you out, and then start a thread in the outer sanctum. :)

I believe we're thinking right along the same lines, Griff. Is there any reason you want this accomplished at the Outer Sanctum level instead of the C3G Project level? The problem is if we go back and make basic for everything they won't match and we won't be able to do comic art due to the odd "L" shape.

I would have to find the mini photos again and get new backgrounds. I'd be willing to do this but we have to accept that they won't all match. I don't wanna half do this either, I want it to be a complete set of Basic cards.

For me there are three reasons why it doesn't belong in the sanctum.

No one in the sanctum is really asking to work on it. ;)
The sanctum doesn't need the distraction.
It doesn't require the sanctum's skills to get it done, just votes. Now if you want to keep it public, I could be open to that. But I think if this is gonna get done, your gonna need to lead it and do most of the work on it.

I think this could be a two person project. 1 person for stats and 1 person for art. We don't need community debates on whether Basic Flash should have 16 move or not. Easily done in the Outer Sanctum. This is obviously gonna be slow too with the artist having to create what over 100 basic cards?

You have my support. :D

I only have one request to Tickle; C3G Master Game Cards have to be a priority any time your asked to create a card.

As far as the look of the Basic cards, you can use whatever background and mini pic you want to. It would be great if they matched the front of the card, but it isn't a deal breaker for me. Or, maybe just use comic art instead of mini pics. That would save you a lot of time and work. :D But these decisions are completely up to you. Good luck, and thanks for taking the initiative. :D

The problem with comic art is that it would have to fill a large "L" shaped window and might now always work out. Doing figure art will probably be easier since I need a mini picture for the hitzone anyways.

Something like that would belong in the unofficial C3G add on thread as it's not something the project could officially endorse.

Yeah, it's not even an add-on. It's something entirely separate.

It's MarvelScape Jr. Not something I have any interest in. Powers are a slippery slope. You start with simple ones and eventually you start adding one "slightly" complex one because it's a fun power and you can't resist. After that, you find the others not as much fun so you design more powers at that complexity.

I say we follow official Basic cards to the letter with the Flying symbol and Superstrength symbol.

How hard is it to do basic cards (other than the art)? It takes like a minute of thought to get the stats right. They aren't even costed so we don't need to test them.

It's for the kids man. Obviously were not designing Basic cards for us to use.

I don't think you remember what your imagination can accomplish as such a young age. All you need is basic stats for 5 year old and they will imagine the most terrific battles. There are many cards that have been released by C3G that my son has little capability of playing, let alone effectively.

I don't think there's anything wrong with people wanting to have a more basic version of cards to teach their kids on ... our cards can get fairly complex. Now judging people for wanting to do these things or implying that they're wasting their time if they want to, makes you a bit of a dingbat. :-P

It's with a heavy heart that I have to let you guys know that two of our brothers have had to say goodbye to the project. Due to outside concerns from life, work, and so on, neither Hahma nor Whitestuff feel any longer that they have the time or passion to fully commit themselves to the C3G project and they've decided to step down.
Speaking for myself and the other heroes, we consider these guys C3G Legends and an inseparable part of the very fabric of Superheroscape. I consider them both friends as well as huge joys to have worked with on this project. I hope they'll continue to be fans of the project and step in from time to time as well.
Obviously these guys are irreplaceable and it will be a challenge to maintain our currently planned release schedule with them gone. These are things the heroes will need to discuss and consider in private in the days to come.
That said, we've lost huge parts of the project before. Matt Helm, Markb, and Garada were all founding members of the group, and all have moved on, yet C3G remains strong and will remain strong for the foreseeable future.
Hopefully you can all join me in celebrating what these guys have meant to C3G and thank them for what they've given to the project and the community.

Here's to Hahma and Whitestuff! :toast:

If there is one thing that has impressed me about C3G, it's the hard work that is involved in producing the fun that I've been enjoying since August 2010. It's very sad, but very understandable, when someone has to step down due to life commitments.

One of my favorite moments was building one of A3n's map designs at the same time Hahma volunteered to construct it. It was a gorgeous map, and it was a lot of fun to compare notes with Hahma. I hope Hahma's current HYDRA base doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Whitestuff has always found a way to make me laugh. He has a great sense of humor, which I hope we will continue to see. The comics he produces to accompany Wave releases have been, for me, an integral part of the releases. Whitestuff, your cheque (did I spell that right) is in the mail.

So, a toast to you both, as well as to all of you who continue to pour your talents into this project.

Just to be clear, Whitey, Hahma, and GO will still be around, just not in the sanctum or as current members of C3G. You will still bump into them from time to time, they have all just decided that they are happy with what they have given the group (which is a LOT) and that they are ready to move on to other things in life without the responsibilities and stresses of C3G.
They will of course all 3 maintain their badges and Sanctum Access, they just will not be active members.

Some good news, at least for now.

Back in the fall, I found out from my daughter in NY, that my ex-wife (her mom) had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. That's not good. She also had spots on her lungs that were the same cancer that was in her colon. She has been going through chemo with monthly infusions that have been making her pretty sick as would be expected.

Well I recently found out from my daughter that the spots on her mom's lungs have disappeared and since they were the same cancer as in her colon, it should mean that the cancer in her colon has either shrunk or disappeared. She's scheduled for surgery in June or July to remove the cancerous (or what's left of it) tumor in her colon. She's by no means out of the woods yet as I imagine it can come back, but at least it's some positive news for us in the meantime.

Anyway, I just wanted to update the situation to those that I had mentioned the situation to back in the fall. Thanks to those that offered prayers and thoughts, hopefully they are working. :D

We just avoid situations where people try to "advertise" their own customs and ideas. If you have to ask if you should say something, that usually means you shouldn't.

Why don't you PM me whatever your thinking and we can discuss it there? :)

Out of curiosity, what is this thread for if it isn't to talk with or ask questions to C3G members?

It's to discuss whatever we want, but soliciting help from C3G members on personal customs is not appreciated. If you start a thread and link it to your sig, members like quozl, Balantai, hi1, and others will help you out.

Well, we can certinaly help you out, just not as part of C3G. Check out some of our own custom threads. Just go to the Comic Customs board.

It's a thread for C3G members and fans to talk to each other about C3G customs and general chatter ... not individual customs.

It's looking to be a good movie. Maybe better than Thor.

It does look good, but like hidicul, I am a bit leery of it. It will sadden me greatly if it does not take place in WW2

I've heard that it is during WWII, and covers from his origin until he gets frozen. I think the idea is that they'll thaw him out in modern times during the Avengers movie in 2012.

Well, something cool just happened. I was outside for about 10 minutes, and up in the sky, I witnessed the National Spaceship, followed by the Discovery Space Shuttle, fly over head, towards Florida, where they will be landing. Pretty cool if you ask me. 8)

Party pooper. :p Nasa is freaking cool, I used to work in a model rocket team, and my team won first place in a competition, once. My brother's team won last year, now they're working WITH Nasa on a special project. Pretty freaking cool cool, if you ask me.

I'm very pro space exploration. It's a huge universe and it's ripe for scientific discovery. We've already gained so many scientific and technological boons as a side effect of what NASA does, it's amazing.
Count me as pro-scientific exploration and pro-space program (which is a hugely American and patriotic industry, IMO).
