Hello. I thought I'd share some pics from some of my games. Feel free to comment, as that would be appreciated.

My first attempt at creating a map. It's rather simple.

First map with a "waterfall". i tend to make my castles too symmetrical.

I just liked the view of this picture.

My zombies getting ready to eat some brains.

This picture shows my waterfall better.

It was now almost impossible to scale that side of the castle.

Nice overview of the map and armies.

The entrance to "Bowser's Castle", as my friend named it.

My buddy's Elf army trying to hold their camp down.

'You will not kill my dragon!"

The battle continues until 3:00A.M..

Well, hope you enjoyed my pics. I've never shared any before and I'm not sure how they will be received. Thanks to all who looked!

Updated 5/03)

New pics from last game! This map is based on symmetry on both sides. Each side starts with the dungeon pieces, then the jungle, then sand. The center has the castle surrounded by water and a small forest plain in front. There are multiple paths into the castle as well.

Long path to the castle, 2nd floor.

I just noticed that for whatever reason my pics aren't as good quality as they once were. Weird.... Maybe I can fix that.

EDIT: I fixed the quality. It was actually on my end. The program I used to make the images smaller also reduced the quality. I negated the poor quality by just keeping the images their normal size.

The forum software auto-resizes the pics to fit in the thread. Clicking on them will show them at full resolution.

Cool map! This should probably go in the "Maps & Scenarios" section of the forum, though.

That waterfall is really neat, Dino! The "Bower's Castle" area really does seem to give off the sense of the game area, especially inside the castle.

I hope, however, that next time you remember that jungle trees have to have at least 2 sides connected to other tiles... ;)

Thanks for the positive feedback. I put the thread in this section b/c I'm not explaining how to make any maps. I'm simply showing my maps in mid-game.

My jungle pieces are all connected to 2 sides. I use swamp water a lot for the 2nd side. Did I make a mistake?

Nice maps, I wish I had enough terrain to do something like that *gazes sorrowfully at the lone RotV and SotM tile sets he owns*

Oh, I didn't notice that you did. No, you didn't make any mistakes. My bad.

Cool map! My only question is who drank the bottle of Smirnoff that is visible in the first picture? LOL

;) Great creativity here! Some people who make waterfalls place some kind of blue material cascading down the sides. The rule should be that you can'd climb/descend through these hex sides--you'd be swept away.

The height area is interesting. But anything that high is impassable to all but flyers/teleporters, unless that's what you are going for. In Heroscape building, less height than is visually dramatic is usually better so that most units can participate there.

The Maps section often has illustrations of maps rather than "how to" articles. You can also put them in the Battle Reports section, if you want to tell the story in words.

Well generally i don't like big maps too much. takes forever moving and then the game takes a long time, but ill admit that it is a visually pleasing map.

Answers:
- I don't remember who drank the Smirnoff. I know it wasn't me though b/c I don't drink.
- I don't make anything high unpassable. I build "steps" going up to every high area. I do make the heights vary though for height advantage.
- I usually have 4-6 people (with 1,000 point armies) playing so big maps are a must.
- Thanks to all who enjoyed!

Do you plan these maps out, or do you just wing it?

I always have a general idea about what I want built. I then just start building, keeping my idea in mind. I never map it out piece by piece beforehand though. Also, a lot of times my friends help build the maps too. I tell them my plans and let then build with freedom.

Why, do my maps look too amateur?
