It was actually one episode and a behind-the-scenes special. I thought the new Doctor's debut was very good! Nice and scary while being fun and funny. Very good start to the season.

I have tried, and tried, and tried, and I simply cannot get into it. I must not be goofy enough to enjoy it.

:)

I haven't seen any of the new stuff either, but I used to enjoy it.

How're these for claims to fame? When I was at college one of my housemates took Jon Pertwee's inside leg measurement. I've also bumped into Sophie "Ace" Aldred in a dodgem car. Pretty impressive, I think you'll agree.

I think this is the last thing I saw related to the show:

I really like the new Doctor. Personally, I think Matt Smith is a much better Doctor than David Tennant.

I'm not really digging the new Doctor. It's probably just that I was introduced to the show with the previous Doctor, but the new one just doesn't feel right to me.

Maybe once I catch a few more episodes . . . .

I really thought i'd stop watching Dr Who when Tennant left, but Matt Smith has been very enjoyable to watch; he seems to have the personality of several of the past Doctors combined. Amy Pond is a fairly good character too, and after watching the first 8 episodes I can safely say i've liked this series so far. The one thing I don't like about this series though is...

..Rory, Amy's fiancée. I don't really like that part of Amy's storyline and think he (and the non-existant love triangle) somewhat ruins the show a bit.

I am, so I've only seen up to the "Vampires of Venice". I think the point with Rory is that the Doctor has learned from his mistakes with recent companions and is being proactive to include her loved ones before it becomes a problem. I don't think they are going for a love triangle because this doctor doesn't seem at all interested and he's got River Song out there in his ambiguous future. But I can see how it can also be interpreted as setting up something that isn't really working. (I might be giving the writing too big a pass because I'm a huge Moffat fan.)

Should we ask if the thread title can be changed to "Spoilers" or "US Spoilers" (the Brit are too far ahead and would need their own spoilers thread for additional spoilage) or should we start another thread?

Oh, yes she is. She's the main reason I am watching so far, I'm sure Matt Smith will grow on me.

Who's excited for the second half of Series 6, now that we know who River Song is?

Just my opinion, but Moffat has got to work on linear storytelling... :)

Totally looking forward to it. And in regards to comments made earlier in this thread, I think Rory is awesome. He is my favorite character in the show currently. I like him better than the Doctor or Amy. Major spoilers in that last episode. Crazy stuff. Doctor Who is awesome.

Since my earlier post of a year or so ago, I've gotten hooked on the new stuff.

Matt Smith is my favourite doctor of the new ones I think, but I suspect that's more that I think they've eventually hit on a good balance with Amy and Rory sidekicking (though Tennant/Tate was a lot of fun).

But yes, when does the second half of Season Six start? The first half was the first TV show I've watched in real time (downloading the episodes from iTunes to watch on a Sunday evening) since I "gave up" television 5+ years ago.

It's August 28. From what I've seen in the previews, Rory beats Hitler up. Cool!

Thanks. A bit soon to be getting excited, perhaps, but certainly close enough to start looking forward to. Maybe we'll re-watch part 1 of season six (or even all the Matt Smith ones) in anticipation... :ponder:

Ditto. It'll be nice to have the open-ended questions answered.

And now, I will leave you with my favorite quote from Dr. Who...

"People don't understand time--it's not what you think it is. People think time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more of a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey......stuff."

This show has some of the best lines, I love when everyone new goes into the tardis and the first thing they start to say and everyone else finishes is Yeah yeah its bigger on the inside than on the outside. The old show was great and the new stuff has been too.

Hah! That was great. And it cleared up so many questions quite nicely, while still leaving a couple more unanswered.

And I love that they put Hitler in the cupboard and then just left him there.

I love Doctor Who, I've even started to watch the old 1960s version of the show. For me of All the Doctors, Christopher Eccleston was the best.

His Manic style of portrayal was perfect for the Doctor. A guy who needs to experience the most excitement possible in order to forget the tragedy of the destruction of his people at his own hands.

His drive to make others better (where the name Doctor comes from) is also just an extension of that same guilt and Eccleston nailed that.

The last two Doctors don't have that same level of unpredictable and slightly insane energy.

Tennant is my runner up but he was to depressed at times. Too serious.

Matt Smith is too doe eyed. Although he does the scattered brain bit really well he is missing the manic. When he is mad/determined like in "A good man goes to war." He just was not believable as an unstoppable force of nature. You didn't get the same "Oh crap, now you've done it feeling".

But that is just my personal feeling Tennant and Smith are very good in their own way.

I am really interested in what happens with River Song. I think the TARDIS helped create her to give the Doctor a true equal companion and to help him resurrect his people from extinction.

Spoilers!

Delphic.

Yeah, especially when Stetsons are involved. I have to say they've done a good job foreshadowing these events, though I have to say things turned out a little differently than I expected.

On a side note, how do you go about making a "Spoiler" in a post? I want to discuss these episodes more in depth, but I want to be considerate to those who have not yet seen them.

PS @ Neo: Not entirely sure what you meant by "Deathreavers"...then again, it could be tiredness and the flu talking, but all the same...care to explain?

BBC has canned the Doctor Who confidential...yikes! There's also talk (rumors, mind, but rumors in the industry) of ending Doctor Who after 2013. After 1987, you would have thought BBC had a little more sense on this. Perhaps they are just afraid of success.

Supposedly, there are 7 episodes slated for 2012, and 7 for 2013. This is to make room for the "less popular" shows and to give "new writers" a chance to debut their shows. Regardless of whether or not these statements are true, I'm a tad concerned considering BBC's track record.

What do you all think?

I've watched 5 or 6 seasons of the most recent installment of Dr. Who. Very much an enjoyable and original show. Rose was definitely my favorite companion of the Doctor's.

I also went back and found the very first episode of Dr. Who (I believe it was on youtube). Very interesting, and the Doctor is very different than the modern ones (understandably).
