View Full Version : How high can Jotun throw?

On Jotun's card, it says figures do not recieve throwing damage if they land on a ledge higher than Jotun's height; so he can obviously throw figures up. But how many levels high can he throw a figure? I.E: Can he throw a figure up to the top level of a two story castle, wich is 22 stories high after you add the battalion?

The only limit on how high (or low) Jotun can throw another figure is that he must have a clear line of sight on that figure where it lands. Battlements could be an issue in your example, but as long as Jotun can see the figure where it lands, it's okay.

Yes, "battlement" is what I meant. Not "battalion":) Thanks for the input!

You know, I read right past your misnomer and didn't even blink - just read it as "battlement"
Take care :)

Yah, me too... when I was writing it. I guess it would take on a whole new meaning if there was an entire battalion sitting up there.

i mean think about it, if you threw a rat, how many times your body height could you throw it upwards? I'd say a lot. :D

I do think it would be a little harder to throw a Zettian, wouldn't you?

Jotun looks like he's been going to the gym aswell-either that or lifting up alot of trees, so that would help him! Now about throwing the Deathreavers-would you say hold it by the tail or body or head when you throw?

But they are a large hunk of metal plating. (where do you think the high defense comes from?) I can just see Jotun trying to throw a Zettian up onto the battlements. He throws, looks up "What is that shiiny thiii- crash- the Zettian's remains clatter to the ground leaving Jotun with the question of what he was doing before he recieved this horrible head ache.

LOL, good point. But then again i think the zettian being busted up would be worth it :D

I'd say the tail, easier to get more velocity out of the throw.

What would be cool is if Jotun wqas wearing armor fashioned from a busted up Zettian.

Surely if you were thrown up really high, it would kinda hurt? I would tend to think that if Jotun is throwing, say, an enemy, he obviously wants to hurt him. I like to think that Jotun S-Q-U-E-E-Z-E-S the figure first before throwing. My kids like that idea, thus we mainly roll for damage even if the figure lands higher up than before or in water.

What if he throws an ally?
Or maybe the idea is that in his rage he grabs somebody attcking him and throws him as far as possible. Thus, he would forget to squeeze.

Seems odd that he can throw up as far as his eyes can see, but only horizontally by four hexes...

Lots of odd about Jotun, Rob. And about throwing. The US children's star of the 60's, Soupy Sales, once told kids that if they throw a raw egg straight up at the ceiling there is a point where the egg is no longer going up but has not yet begun to come down. Soupy told the tots that if they did it just right and got that exact spot of not going up and not coming down to happen right at the ceiling, then the egg would stick up there, hanging above their heads like an electro-static baloon does. Enough kids tried it that he lost his television job for a while.

 That is really quite amusing... and no doubt messy!

Not at all messy if you throw the egg up just right.

Rob... a couple of years ago some folks wanting to make money off of religious feelings produced many items inscribed WWJD for "What Would Jesus Do?" The secondary idea was to ask the ethical question (of course, since none of us are Jesus, it is a bit moot...better to ask "What would Jesus want me to do?"). The primary idea was to make a bunch of money. They did and still do.

What Would Brian Boitano Do
are you familiar with South Park? That song (from the movie) is legendary...
Has nothing to do with Jotun throwing, though, so apologies for going off topic ;-)

Ok, so Jotun can throw a figure up to the top of a castle as long as he can see him. Has anyone used Jotun to catapult characters from their own team into the castle? Is that legal?

Awesome, thanks! I figured that since it didn't say choose an "opponent's" figure, it would be ok to throw your own as well, but I just wasn't sure after the whole deathreaver issue.

While we are on Jotun, I think Jotun should be able swing to knock down castle walls. You would remove the castle wall when it had 15 damage.

I've tried the Jotun=seige tower tactic before. I had never studied his card before and was unpleasantly surprised that there was a LOS requirement. I actually got angry. Partly at my friend who knew the card and knew my strategy (I had talked about it beforehand). But mostly at stupid Jotun and my not having seen it earlier.
And DON'T try this tactic with anything higher than 1x high castles if there are battlements. It simply doesn't work that well.
Personally, and unrelated to my first Jotun experience, I would never have put the LOS requirement in. It would have added SO much more complex strategy when Jotun is in play! Why throw the enemy 4 open spaces away when you can throw him back in his own castle? Or out of your castle!
