Aldridge Chemicals Bio- Aldridge Chemicals, the world wide leader in house hold cleansers and military grade corrosives was at one point in time the pride and joy of founder Jared Aldridge. However after the billionaires attention diverted to his quest to obtain a professional baseball franchise, the factory became neglected. Routine maintinence ceased, and vats began to leak. As a result, there has been a spike in OSHA recordable incidents, most notably 2 admitted to the local psych ward for brain damage (both employees on permanent disability) and 3 fatalities caused by fume inhalation. Mr. Aldridge has closed the plant after stating "Upgrades must be made to bring the plant into a new millennium". In another cost cutting measure, Mr. Aldridge has refused to hire security to guard the building, and was quoted off the record as stating "That place has been sealed tight for weeks. Anyone dumb enough to break into that fume filled dump deserves to die." Before the plant was closed, rumors circulated about a new compound being developed, that could eat through the strongest metals known to man.
-Rulings and Clarifications-
Toxic Chemical Effect
At the end of each round, roll the 20-sided die for each figure you control that does not have an Insane personality. If you roll a 15 or higher and the figure is not a Unique Hero, destroy the figure. If you roll a 15 or higher and the figure is a Unique Hero, choose an opponent. That opponent now controls the Unique Hero. Give the Unique Hero's Army Card to that opponent.

That's really cool ... man ... if there was only some way to do a catwalk over some of those vats, though?

Man, how did I miss this?
Ok, you didn't add a link in the C3G Map Discussion thread. I haven't had the time lately to look at anything I am not subscribed to. For that I am sorry.
This look pretty cool. I will have a better look later but if you were inclined to do catwalks the road 5 hex piece would probably work well.
I'll drop back soon I promise.

Catwalks are soooo a must too. I mean battling with Knockback rules high over chemical pits is so something I need to do with SuperHeroscape. :-D

When I was first discussing this map with Griffin, knockback was my big selling point. I think a catwalk would be awesome, but the problem is that one 5 hex road is already in use in the center vat, and on this map my challenge was create a map that used no more than 2 sets each. Here are some real world pics of it.

Hmm ... shoot ... I don't suppose I could convince you to cut out a vat or two and repurpose some hexes for that catwalk? Definitely keep the big one in the middle, but you could replace the five spacer there with some one and two spacers from a small vat or two that would be cut. Just a thought ... I love the map as is, but it still feels like it's missing that "final touch."

It's not spelled out but I'm guessing that "chemical" is all 5 kinds of the half-height tiles. Is that right?

Yeah, I felt that the goal of the army breaking in was to steal samples from each liquid which they would mix to make the super chemical (basically being adjacent to the liquid and rolling a d20 to successfully collect without touching it).a3n did some mods to the map last night and found a way to incorporate catwalks. I think his results look fantastic. I will be posting VS pics tonight after work and will build it tomorrow.

Very nice! Doesn't quite incorporate the theme of the catwalks being up above the vats, but I think it's close enough for government work. Especially considering the desire to keep the materials requirements smaller. :-)

It is a good effort, but I think I like the original better.

I like the original better too.
If you are going to leave the extra catwalks, maybe some battlements to act as barriers to the toxic chemicals?
Or, going a somewhat different direction, maybe put an observational platform overseeing the vats.
The scene I am thinking of was the Nicholson-Keaton Batman scene right before Joker took a bath, where the catwalks were above the vats.
Right in the front/center where the asphalt is, mabye put an observational tower where thematically, all the controls to the vats would be. It would be about 3 units wide/1 unit deep and would have the battlements to act as the control panels.
Whatever....you are making some cool maps. Keep up the good work. Marvel maps were always a dry spot so it is good to have more and more good ones built.

Yeah ... I think you might be right. Without the catwalk going up above everything, it looks better without it.

Happy birthday walker! I like both versions but based on general consensus ill leave the old one up. That scene you mentioned badger is exactly what I thought of when making the map.I'm ready to propose the old version pending input on the special rule.

OK two last minute adjustments: I would really like for the bio to have the lines about the chemical eating through things, and instead, have it reflect the special rules of people hallucinating and going crazy and some even dying from the exposure to the fumes.
Then we need the PDF to change its bio and also have the Optional Rules somewhere on them. If the rule isn't on the PDF, people are not likely to know about it.

Here's my take on some catwalks...
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb279/bwhit89/c3g/chem.jpg
Sorry it isn't a pretty textured pic. My version of Vscape won't work properly...
I had to make it 1 hex worth wider to fit the bridge piece onto both sides nicely. Because I haven't made the actual map physically, I'm not sure if the edge of bridge pieces will fit as closely to the hexes as the map shows. If they don't fit nicely I thought that I'd leave the gap in those catwalk pieces and use some sort of d20 roll to allow moving figures to jump the gap (something like a 6 or higher you make it, less than that you fall taking damage).
I was just thinking about the special gas rules for this map... It would be cool if the rule doesn't apply when you are on the catwalks or tops of vats. With the knockback rules in play that would be a blast. :D

:jawdrop: I... need... to sit down. Wow! That is awesome. Did you use the same amount of terrain or what? Also, there are two points on the catwalks where there is a gap in the road. Do you have a road space or any other space, even liquid, that could go there to fill the gap?
I want to go to there....

:jawdrop: I... need... to sit down. Wow! That is awesome. It really shines with the catwalks IMHO. :D
Did you use the same amount of terrain or what? I had to make it a little wider so that the 5-piece bridge could fit both sides. I only have one Marvel set so I had to tweak it a little. There is lots of grass and stone underneath. Also, there are two points on the catwalks where there is a gap in the road. Do you have a road space or any other space, even liquid, that could go there to fill the gap? You didn't like the jump option? With the bridge edge piece (if it fits physically) I'm sure that a single castle/road piece would fit there. I actually had a second bridge edge next to the existing one so that there was a 'safety rail' along the whole edge but I took it out as I wasn't sure if they would fit next to each other.
I want to go to there....
I think that you might be the wrong scale... ;)

This Map passed a while back MrC. We need the front page updated and a new map from you if possible. I would like to see you do the newer version of this map with Whitestuff's suggestions. Perhaps a new thread called Aldridge Chemicals N Stuff. I really do see the benefit of both maps when they both require different terrain sets.
