Favorite Squad

so i was looking at the "Favorite Hero" thread, and decided to make one for squads.



My favorite squad is the Tagawa Samurai. SO KICK ASS. i had them up to 7 attack normal, and wiped out about half the opposing army with them.

I like the knights. Great for tying up units so you can plink them with ranged units. Nobody likes to take double swipe to disengage them. Sooo much better than the Gladitrons.

I guess I'd say I like the Marro Warriors a lot. I've had some good times with them. One time I had all my Marros against 2 full squads and 2 unwounded heros. I kept one back in the water to water clone. I ended up winning with all my Marros still on the field. (after 9 water clones)Good times.

my grimnak likes little puny squad members....



so, my tagawa took out dw9000, 2 macdirk warriors, NGS (full life), Alistair (1 left), 2 TVW, 2 LEgionairres, 2 KMA.


1 of the samurai died at the hands of DW9000 before a second counterstruck him to death, 1 died at the blade of Sgt. Drake, and the third was killed by DW8000, who was struck down by Taelord after about 7 failed attempts, and taking only 1 wound.



GO TAGAWA SAMURAI!! if only they were common...man my army would be teh crap...wait...nvm cuz then Finn would be useless again

I like thier defensive ability, and they just look kool with those hammers.

I think i have to agree that KMA is the best squad, but my favorite is probably the Hounds.... I've fielded 4 squads of hounds and SBN, and it was ugly how fast they can get in there and just lock down units til they die.

I was using the Tagawa until I realized that the Minions of Utgar are probably slightly better. It is debatable whether 4 flying or 6 movementis better, probably a push. The Minions have 1 more defense but don't have counterstrike so a slight advantage would go to the Tagawa. The Minions start with 2 dice plus counterstrike vs the Tagaw starting with 3. I'd put 2 counterstrike over 4 regular and would say the Tagawa would need 2 markers to match the attack the Minions start with. Then you add in the fact that any +1's to attack is like giving the Minions atleast 2 regular attack dice plus they are slightly cheaper (10 points less)

to me it seems like the Sentinels of Jandar are too hard to kill. They are more or less rolling 8 defense dice, they fly, and there are three of them for just 110 pts. :x

I love the Sentinels. I used them with Concan + Raelin and they were often rolling at 7 defense regularly and 8 with height. Marden hounds have to be my favorite. Potentially extremely fast and that plague ability is great for crowd control. Then they get thier normal attack after that. I think they are a real bargain for 90 pts.

exactly. the d20 ability is luck-based, but its still a 25% chance at worst, and has potential to take out multiple units per turn alone. And the high defense makes them stick around for longer than most.

I actually love the Roman Archers. Mainly since I love to field sword and bow armies. If I could get ahold of the Elf Archers I might change my mind.

I think the Elf Archers are pretty fun. Getting a ranged frenzy is quite entertaining. I think the Tagawa Samurai are pretty fun as well. Also, I gotta give a shout out to the Gladiatrons. They are bastards when backed up by a good ranged squad.

My favorite, however, are the Microcorp Agents. I love their sci-fi theme.

Even when that horrendous 1-6 turns up on their d20 move roll, the Marrden Hounds have to be my favorite squad. They look sinister, and way cool. I love the fact that they are double-spaced and the plague roll is always so much fun.

I have a lot of squads that are a close second (4th Mass, Sentinels, Aubriens, Gorillanators), but the Hounds are just too much fun and very creative as heck.

They get my vote, again.

On the flipside, my least favorite are the Microcorp (too much of a good thing) and the Highlanders (I just know when I draft them, I'll spend my whole time worrying about keeping them alive while MacDirk beefs up).

Oh darn, I did forget about the marn hounds. I love it when my brother got the first taste of the plague was hilarious. He didn't think they were all that good until he lost 3-4 units in one turn before my attacks MUWHAHAHA

Gah, forgot to say my favorite squad, so yeah, Aubriens ftw!!! I've actually only ever gotten about 2-3 frenzie with them out of about 5 or so games(only play every other weekend normally) and yet still each time they seemed to kill equal to or more then their points worth, or if they didn't do that then they would have killed of one unit from 2 uniques squads, which is just as good imo. I can't wait to see the damage they do when they get multiple frenzies in a row... ^_^.

my fav is still the hounds, the cross the field quickly, have a chance to cause a automatic wound, still get to attack AND have good defense...not to mention they just look bad ass chargeing across the field.

Too many blank rolls to like the Sentinels all that much. The Knights are a tank, and I've only lost once when drafting them (wife shackled Jotun at full strength and went balistic with him). Tagawas are just awesome. Minions are almost unstoppable, unless someone smart with range comes in. Orcs can swarm the enemy.

I guess I'll go Knights.

Mine is the Omnicron Snipers. Get them at height and within Taelord's range...life is good.

The Tagawa Samurai are quickly growing on me. I didn't care for them at first, but last week I got 3 kills in one round (starting with Charos). They were still fully loaded, had Taelord close behind, and had the Attack glyph. Yeah, I'm liking them more now.

I think my fave is the microcorp agents. There's so much to like. A close second are the marro warriors. Only if they were a common squad.

Well the Tagawa in my opinion look the coolest and kick the most ass but only in certain situations. It's defiently not fun to have an opponent's Syvarris come in and pick off your Samurai with a few lucky dice rolls

The Krav are definetly the most powerful, fit in most armies with a nice 100 point cost, and have in my opinion the best staying power in the game. Off the top of my head the only units that can EASILY counter the Krav are Deadeye Dan, Braxas, Sudema, and Sgt. Drake.

I pick the KMA first most of the time , but that is cause they are undercosted IMO, but my favorite has got to be the Snakes ( Vipers ), the hounds would be 2nd and they have been discussed. But I am suprised no one else has said snakes. I play an awful lot of HS, and there is nothing funner then rolling for Frenzy and getting it, if you get a couple in a row forget about it. I have basically wiped out the whole other army in one round. I rolled for 3 frenzies the 1st turn, only 1 the 2nd turn, but got 4 the 3 turn and it was all over. WIth mitten you are talking about 9 movement and that rocks ( not to mention +1 on frenzy ). The snakes so kick A** if you can get the frenzies going.
THey are great to move really fast and get some glyphs , if there is a movement glyph and you get your first snake on it, now we are talking about 11 move, they are just to fun to use. Nothing brings a frown to the enemy like a good frenzy roll.

Wave 1 - tie (I can't choose one or the other) between Arrow and Blade Gruts

Wave 2 - 4th Mass

Wave 2.5 - Obsidians are really the only choice you have from this wave

Wave 3 - Microcorps

Wave 4 - Aubrien Archers

Wave 4.5 - Dzu-Teh by default

Wave 5 - Ninjas
