Corner High Rise Bio - Every city has a "less desirable end of town", and anybody that values their life knows to avoid that area of town at all costs. But for some people they don't have a choice and they must make the best of their life however they can and make a home where ever they can. They live amongst the criminals and the thugs, but their cries for help go unanswered.-Rulings and Clarifications-

I'll try to catch up on this thread someday, but for now I can say that I really like the corner Highrise A3n, really cool. It looks like you have ladder pieces used to hold up some of the wall walks, great idea.

For an expansion to that map, if someone had enough castle sets, they could do another highrise kind of where the warehouse is, or a little further back from the road.

Very nice use of the castle materials. I wonder if perhaps something extra might be done with that grassy area? Perhaps some trees, maybe a park?

In any case, the map is very impressive!

I like the multiple levels and the use of ms1's ruins. I agree with Taeblewalker, some trees in the grass area would be nice. Like adding sprinkles on an already great ice cream sunday, it would take it to 11.

Really cool stuff, A3n! Although, I wonder if it wouldn't look even better (more urban) if you lost the battlements? They have the effect of making it look kind of castley (naturally). Love the windows and the look of the building in general, though. :-)

Good idea. I have always tried to have a defined 24 hex start zone as a habit but I think I can still fit a few trees there & there is also the grass area behind the warehouse - I'll give it a go. BTW I do have home made variety that I use in place of the RttFF one.

Yeah I know but they are kind of providing a covered firing position. But now I think about if I just loose all the top ones & keep the balcony ones that should achieve the effect we would want. Besides if the figures are up that high then they deserve to be shot .
This is a freakin cool map.
You honour me. Thank you all for your kind words.

BTW: I built this map (well version 1.0 - this is version 1.5 it has a larger grass area) when playing with my son just a couple of weeks back. It was a blast as I played a team of C3G Batman, my Robin & my Batgirl. Tristan had Brunak, Mimring, C3G Green Arrow, Tarn Viking Warriors & Sgt Drake (RotV). Brunak came out of the building carrying Sgt Drake. So Batman went to meet them. Mimring went straight for my start zone but Robin followed Batman leaving the dragon to pepper the Batgirl. My Robin was absolutely deadly moving in & out of engagement with Brunak & Drake using his Tag Team Special whilst Batman held them engaged. Batgirl kept the high ground & was exchanging blow for blow with Mimring. Green arrow decided to target Batgirl so I thought it was time she moved. Drake went down under Robins constant assault. Mimring decided to come to assist Brunak, but it was too little too late as Brunak went down the turn Mimring arrived. Batgirl Bat-grappled up to the balcony where Green Arrow was & took him out followed by the Tarn Vikings that were never activated. Robin finished off Mimring. Tristan didn't pick the best team & didn't make the best choices even with my suggestions so it was pretty much one sided - I actually think it might have been one of Batman's training simulations the way he just stood there & let the sidekicks do all the work. :p

Here is a slight mod - I just couldn't resist putting some water tiles on the opposite side of the two waters you placed, suggesting a small lake in the middle of the city, or perhaps the park placed on the bank of a river, with the high rise overlooking the view. I feel the water, while not surrounding a whole section of the map, really gives the feel (when taking the original two tiles and the rest I placed into account) that there is a pricey high-rise overlooking a riverfront view. A little maneuvering of the trees might make it even better.
This is all IMHO. ;)

Edit: I meant to post this in Assault on Police HQ! For this map, Casual.

I think scenario. The name of the map itself suggests it! I'm starting to wonder actually which maps will be in the purely casual category, since a scenario can be made from nearly any map. I think that a guideline for Scenario maps is if the maker has one in the back of his mind. For example, I'm making a Savage Land map, based on a scene from an X-men cartoon, and I have no particualr scenario in mind - I just think it looks cool! That will be a Casual map.

A3n

I like it for casual play. A scenario can be added for sure but it is fairly well balanced for equal point teams with enough cover & defending positions for the team on the outside.

I built it yesterday. I had typed a whole battle report from my cell, then lost it before posting, so I will summarize:1) I had some issues with wall bases stacked on others and a few wall walk tiles on the same spot in the version I downloaded, but otherwise I was impressed with the build.2) The battle with Spidey vs. Venom was epic! They bounced from the middle level of the high rise to the warehouse ruin and up to the top level of the high rise within two rounds. The map is perfect for them, and the game (which was just the two of them) ended with Spidey winning, with one life left! Epic.

Ok I found the overlapping tile on the sidewalk & an unsupported tile on level 2 (left side bottom corner inside the High Rise - I think these came about when I altered the edge to fit next to Police HQ). New VS file front page. Were they the only ones you found?

What problems did you have wall bases stacked on others? Are you meaning the bottom window? If so it works fine (for me) & was intended that way to make use of the extra bases & save the tiles.

It sounds like you had a blast. 8)

EDIT: I had to clear my cache before I could download it as the latest version.

I couldn't explain very well by typing from my cell (phone, heh), but I did mean those 4 tiles on the bottom plus the unsupported one - and yes, the two bases seemed a little bit unstable for the bottom window. I just used two wall walk tiles and it worked fine. The last issue actually was that the large ruin didn't seem to sit well against the level 2 wall walk spaces. I used an extra 2-piece grass tile under it to shore it up.

Overall, great map, and with the exception I just noted, ready for play!

OK, now I am aware of what two bases you guys are talking about. There are two castle wall bases stacked directly on top of each other in the bottom of the window on the left side of the building.

At first when I saw it, I thought to myself "no way", but then I built it and realized that it is structural, looks good, and offers consistent levels in height.

This is something that everyone should be aware of, as it is forbidden in the rule book, but it still works all the same. I like it only because it is a unique and innovative way of using the tiles. However, I would understand if others are against it. Btw, It is not necessary to the build either.

I would like to put it up to a poll of our members, as we should all at least be aware, and I think the ultimate decision should be, like all decisions here, by a majority.

Do you think that the Castle Wall Bases should be allowed to be stacked directly on top of each other?

YES

or

NO

It's a hard decision in terms of officialdom, since we would like to build scenarios on some of these maps that are submitted to a la carte. If C3G proper would allow it for their scenarios, I'd say ok. I will vote yes since it's clever and it works, but I hope we are not causing future problems.

I of course vote YES. But I do have 2 stipulations on their use:
1). they aren't used adjacent to other stacked bases - meaning we don't join 2 together. &
2). they are only used between castle walls - I know the will still worked between stacked terrain but I don't think the look is too pleasing.

I vote NO on the stacking bases. They just don't look good.

I built the map today and found a couple of problems: the large ruins don't fit where it's located and there is an extra 1-hex concrete tile floating above nothing on level 2. I moved both ruins back one space and took out the extra 1-hex concrete tile and the map looks great. The ladder pieces hold up the hex tiles really well. The window looks funny so we replaced the bases with a couple of 1-hex road tiles. (You don't use any road tiles even though you use the trees.)

Being the moron I am, I think I goit a little confused by the upper corner of the building with the "6" high of bases(?) or something like that. Anyway, it really looked like an urban battlezone which is so hard to come by.
