I'm not caring for this movie-i haven't read the book (or books, i don't know anything about this) and i haven't watched or be bothered to watch the trailer. Overall i don't think there is anything that could be better than Lotr (fantasy-wise anyway)!

I'm eager to check it out. I have bought the books for my oldest kid, but never read them myself. What impressed me most was the author was just a 19 year old kid!
Tolkien's LoTR will never be surpassed (or at least it hasn't yet) but that's not to say other fantasy books won't be as enjoyable.
But then again, that's hard to believe when you see things getting published like Robert Jordon's Wheel of Time series...nothing but toilet paper between book covers there...

Excuse me, Jandars_Hope, your ignorance is showing. You might want to tuck that back in ...

That was possibly the most innane post I've ever read. Why would anyone post something like that. You state you don't care for it, yet state in the same sentence you know nothing about it, nor have any desire to look for anything about it. I guess ignorance is indeed bliss.

Now onto Eregon; I have read a little about the movie, it does worry me that the lead character is a reletively unknown actor (this is his first movie), but a similar statement could have been said about a little SciFi movie from 30 odd years ago ... Star Wars!

Looks cool. I'll have to re-read the book. Still waiting for the second one to come out in paperback.

Hey! I spent 20 years of my 20 year life saying i don't like certain foods without actually trying them! Anyway that's just my opinion ATM! By the time they start showing the trailer on the TV i might have changed my mind! Take a chill pill man!

Speaking of, I hear there are some interesting similarities between the two. I can't remember where I heard this, but I remember hearing it somewhere. I saw the trailer on TV last weekend. Looks entertaining. I'll have to get the book and give it a read.

Agent Minivan,

I do recall thinking that it reminded me of Star Wars somewhat when I read the book last year sometime. I'll have to read it again, as my memory is in serious disrepair, too many paint fumes I guess.

I'm a bit skeptical about the movie. I think some of the casting is wrong...John Malcovich just doesn't seem like he belongs. I can live with Jeremy Irons as Brom although he isn't who I pictured as that character, and everytime I hear his voice I see him as Scar...

We will see though.

That's usually the case for me, I picture characters in books as different than they end up in movies. Characters in LOTR movie however, turned out exactly as I had envisioned them.

I'll have to read the book again and then after seeing the movie, I'll determine how I feel about it. I don't mind some creative liberties taken when making a movie out of a book, as long as they fit and don't depart too much from the written work.

Unfortunately or fortunately, it seems since LOTR, any fantasy type movie is going to be held to tremendous standards. I for one think that with the success of LOTR and the technology available these days, there is no excuse for making a lame fantasy/sci-fi movie. IMHO, don't make the movie if you can't do it with high standards in mind.

 I don't do suits; strong or otherwise!
I didn't mean to come across as ignorant! All i meant was i'm not fussed about seeing the film or reading the books is all! :D
Anyway, i've moved on! Whether i do or don't see the film when it comes out is something i'll only know when i watch the trailer on tv! I'm just not going to go out of my way to get interested in it...not ignorance, just have better things to do!

I am so excited with this movie. Granted, Arya has blonde hair, but that is not enough to break the coolness to this movie.

P.S. For those who say Tolkien can not be beat, why do say this when you have not read the book? I myself am a huge Tolkein fan, but I think it is unfair to say that this is just a copycat of LOTR and it could never be better. Truthfully I think both series are of the same caliber. Just my :2cents:

Ok! So could someone give the lowdown then on this book/movie? Is it more LOTR or Harry Potter?
If Lotr then i will give it a chance but if H.P then no thank you!

It's more LOTR because when I read the books I found myself constantly finding LOTR referencess.

That is the best way to describe the book in one sentence. Why couldn't I think of that?
