I was thinking to charge in with the melee units well the archers provide cover.

No, it's not.

I assume by your name that you're a big fan of Sparty, but if you don't have any other Gladiators in your army then there's no way to justify his 200 point price tag. The Tarns and Finn are also out of place.

Marcus+Legos is a good start, though. ;)

Roman legionaries x2 = 100 points
Roman Archers x2 = 110 points
Sparticus = 200 points
Tarn Vikings = 50 points
Finn =80 points
Marcus Decimus Gallus = 100 points
Total = 640 points

Your army is trying to do a lot of things but is missing the focus you tend to find in the most competitive armies. Take Spartacus for example. He is an impressive hero, but a fair portion of his value is in inspiring other gladiators - none of which are in this army. For 110 points RotV Drake has very similar stats, is more mobile and is harder to kill at range. He's also a soldier - which brings us to Marcus.

The synergy between Marcus and the Roman Legion is excellent. 200 points to get 2xLegion and Marcus is an excellent and highly competitive army core. One thing to consider is how to build on that synergy. Adding more soldiers is a great way to take maximum advantage of having Marcus in the army. Additional soldiers include the 10th regiment of foot and the Airborne Elite among others, both excellent ranged squads - which brings us to - the Roman Archers.

Without some way to protect them, the Roman Archers have a tendency to die very quickly on the battlefield, rarely wielding their six dice ranged special attack. For the same points, you can trade them in for the AE, a four man squad of soldiers with greater range, a stronger attack, more defense and an easier time getting height advantage.

The Tarn Vikings and Finn are welcome additions to any army. They have their uses and can force your foe to make tough decisions. If you had another squad of Legionnaires you might be better served taking them instead of the Tarn though - it gives you more focus. The 90 points you saved in going from Spartacus to Drake can be spent on Raelin and Isamu - further toughening your troops and giving you a nice and inexpensive clean up unit.

So we're looking at:
Roman legionaries x3 = 150 points
Airborne Elite = 110 points
Drake RotV = 110 points
Raelin RotV= 80 points
Finn =80 points
Marcus Decimus Gallus = 100 points
Isamu = 10 points
Total = 640 points

That should give you a boost in the direction of making that army competitive!

Your much better stuffing it full of Romans. Also, don't forget that the 10th Regiment is perfect in this build.

x3 Legos-150
x2 10th-300
Marcus-400
Zelrig-585
Isamu-595

You have a squad killer, a ranged squad, a melee squad, a cheer leader, and a crazy ninja to score some points with. This one would be best to maxamize Romans. You could try even more to excel in Romans, but that would leave you lacking in a bread/butter range unit.

...or spend the 90 on Ne-Gok-Sa, he's a tank and bonds with Legionnaires.

Good call and another good place for Finn's spirit.

I would say take out Sparty and put in some more special attackers...Nilfhiem, 8000, maybe cyprien. If you don't face Soulborgs.
