I voted for Grace under Pressure because I like the canyons aspect of the map, but I must say that Glacial run is beautiful!

Glacial Run - it just looks so beautiful

Really did not like Fort Ash Foaler - very boring

I think the virtualscape file for Fort Ash Foaler is messed up. It looks like the castle walls should be double high.

Hellfire Pass

Nice-looking, I rather like the volcano in the corner, but the map seems one-sided, favoring the blue team, with their easier access to the big green hill. I could be wrong---the map is probably more balanced than it looks.

Grace Under Pressure

I really like the placement of the rock outcroppings here. There's an interesting path through the middle, and the big tree is well-placed.

Glacial Run

I really like the look of the big glacier in the middle and the icefall down the diagonal of the map. I especially like the partially iced-over lake, which makes for not-that-easy access, without being very slow access if it were all water. Perhaps slippery ice would be nice here. There's also the possibility of fighting on the snow, which is rather viable, and at the top of the falls as much as in the plains.

Glacial Cave

Interesting overhang in the middle, if there is one there. The glaciers and ice on top have a nice effect. There are a couple of different ways to attack, all of which have their downsides.

Fort Ash Foaler

A miniature defend-the-fort scenario. The fortress does not look entirely impregnable, and without ramparts is monk-friendly, so the defenders need to take care.

Dhashigi Pass

Nice two-space road in the middle for good melee fights. Good dividing river, nice use of trees and ruins. Fording the river will be slow going, of course, but has decent cover.

All Along the Watchtower

I like the use of ruins for the walls of the very tall tower. Looks like a defender/attacker scenario, with an egrees on the side for the defenders if they need it. I like the lake here and there.

My final vote

My first vote goes to Glacial Run, because of its flexibility and how big the map looks, even though it is small. The second vote would go to Grace under Pressure, a very apt name. Dhashigi Pass would be third.

Okay guys (and gals).... Glacial Run gets my vote for prettiest board, but I just don't think this board was developed for battle. You can either sit there in the open and wait for slaughter, or you can struggle up the waterfall, probably along with your opponent. Although odds are whoever gets there first will control the board.....

Grace Under Pressure gets my vote for playability. I really like how there are multiple paths to take from the starting zones, and several areas for battles to take place. I also like that there is height, but not too much.

Dhashigi Pass takes a close second for playability. I like how the road provides a quick route for my 'grunts' to get to the other side, or just get caught in a good battle on the bridge! Meanwhile, you can keep your important people behind the ruins for protection until the time is right to bring them in....

I throw my vote in for Grace Under Pressure. I do like Glacier Run for its look, although the contest does ask which map looks like the most fun. I like the canyon aspect of GUP allowing for multiple paths with varying height offering strategic thinking to reaching your opponent. The tree offers good protection from shooting straight from the other side.

Dhashigi Pass falls second for fun and playability. I can't tell but I would hope the Vipers could fit under the bridge.

Wow, lotta good maps in this thread.

Grace Under Pressure has a lot of height variation that provides cover and strategic options. The wife loves maps with the canyon feel.

Glacial Run look awfully purdy, but I’m not sure how all that open space will play

Glacial Cave looks cool, but it looks really confining. Again I’m not sure how it will play.

Dhashigi Pass has lots of potential play. Plenty of good melee areas with cover from range. Again, lots of strategic options.

In the end I voted Dhashigi Pass, though I almost voted for Grace Under Pressure ;)

I voted for Grace Under Pressure. What a cool map building technique. Doubly cool because it can be ported over to other maps easily.

Finally came to Dhashigi Pass for me. Lots of decisions here - do you take the road to high ground? Recruit swimmers to rush the enemy starting zone via the waterway? Plenty of cover with trees and ruins to hide from range. Looks like a fun strategic map.

My only complaint with this map is (a) plenty of single hex landings to thwart 2 hex character, and (b) I'm guessing very small starting zones.

As the builder of Fort Ashfoaler, the file shown is messed up. I am not too sure if i sent nether the corrected one or not, but i'm not too worried about it. The walls are supposed to be double-high all around, with a 5-hex bridge connecting in the back. Battlements were used, but due to lack of patience and experience with virtual-scape, i decided to leave them out of the file.

i made a thread with pics when i built it in august:

Grace Under Pressure was a fun map. I only had the picture to go with, so I hope I set it up correctly. The game was fast at 300 points. I'm going to try a larger army next time.
