I figured that instead of clogging up other threads with picture options, I'd put them in this thread.

Card designers can let me know if they work for them or not. :)

There is something to be said for this version of Jean Grey :D

This is a good idea. I'd +rep you if it were remotely possible. :-P
As it is, I'll plan to post up pictures here as well once I start taking them for the X-Men set.

It's the thought that counts. :D

I figured that it might be easier for anyone that decides to tackle pictures to keep them centrally located. If the card designers can eliminate the ones that definitely won't work, I/we can delete those to de-clutter the options. Also, any suggestions for poses or even better photos can be made if the options available don't cut the mustard.

I know you (Bats) plan on getting all the official figures, but in the mean time, I figured I'd get a head start to ease the burden for you when the shiznit hits the fan. Like I said, I have some others on the way and will post them after I get pix of them.

I tried to rep Hahma for you, but alas, I cannot. :(

We should seriously consider starting a C3G board on this forum. Then we could have a separate thread for each figure we're working on and the discussions wouldn't get all mixed up.

Something like that would make it easier to keep track of for people that have ideas/comments regarding certain characters without having to have comments buried amidst other conversations.

Sounds good.
I mean, the scenario and writer's guild gets its own hidden forum ... seems like we could get our own ... :-P

GreyOwl
November 21st, 2009, 01:59 PM
I didn't know about that. A hidden one would be even better! Then our releases could be true surprises. :)

I figure if we had a thread for each figure, currently that would be what...26 threads? Plus each glyph, scenario, map, discussion thread per set, overall C3G business thread, voting thread (per set). By my count that is over 60 threads just currently, which would overwhelm this board. Individual customizers would never get noticed because our threads would fill up the first 2 pages always.

I think we have a good case and justification.

IAmBatman
November 21st, 2009, 04:10 PM
I agree. It'd definitely let the project spread its wings. I'd almost prefer it not be invisible, though, because I do still like having input from various observers, etc.

It seems all I needed to do was rep one other person & was I'm allowed to rep Hahma again. Yeah! Not that my reps add to much points value (yet ), but I got him.

A separate sub-board is a brilliant idea, which I always thought the C3G should have been for some time now. When you start the each thread for the character you could even have it as a proper poll to vote on which mini is used.

Cheers

Think it's hard finding some hero/villain comic images on the internet, try finding civilians :frustrated: . So I thought I'd see if I could look through some of the newer comics (more appropriate art for this) I have and look for civilian scenes and scan them. After some editing (cropping panel, resizing, adjusting sharpness and whatever), I figured I'd post them here for easy access later. It's not a big selection, but since I don't have a ton of the newer comics (old school baby 8)) or new ones that didn't have 40 heroes/panel saving the universe :poorpost:, this is the best I can do.

And these are what I got for Thugs for Worlds Finest. I got 3 of each figure for about the cost of one "official" Thug, so I have 3 squads of 4 Thugs. I figured these guys would do just as well and can be used for other "Criminals", "Henchmen" or "Goon" types. Heck, I'll likely use them for Civilians for this set, just because. :D

Thanks Felindar.

I have a plain white piece of paper with the bottom third of it folded straight up as a background. I set it up on the dining room table with the sun coming in from the sliding doors. I have to angle the paper so the shadows are mostly off to one side or not there at all. Otherwise I just try to get the focus right and they come out alright. Certainly not professional, though my sister is a photographer, so I get some tips from her sometimes. But her camera is about ten times better than mine.

Must admit For most of the costume changes in the X-men Movies I could take it or leave it. But, I alwase hated that look for toad. The movie version was much cooler. I don't care what super/mutant powers I have, I am not puting purple flower pettals on my ankles, neck and rists.

Btw, my attempts at photographing Fortress of Solitude were in no way as good as your shots, Hahma. Taking pictures of figures is one thing, but my camera doesn't seem to be set up well for pictures of maps, which could be a problem ...

This Jean Grey figure always makes me laugh. The head and boobs are just so out of proportion to the rest of the fig, that it's comical. Not that there are any better Jean Figs out there. Although I did modify this Blackfire fig awhile back:

Don't quote me, but I think it is called "Pocket Heroes". It is usually on the same isle as the other Marvel Action Figures and it comes with about 7 other miscellaneous marvel figures. The scale on some are really good (like this angel is perfect), but some of the others are a bit larger than the official Marvel Figures form Marvel Scape.

For repainting, the best thing to do is get a can of model spray paint and cover the entire thing, then hand paint the rest with acrylic model paint. After that, you probably will want to coat the entire thing in Triple Thick brush on glaze to prevent chipping.

Here are some other figures from the same collection that I have repainted. Pictures by Hahma. Sorry, I don't have Angel up yet, but trust me, he looks great!

They are MARVEL UNIVERSE HANDFUL OF HEROES

They were about $7 for 7 figures when they came out, but my local Walmart has marked them down to $3 a pack. The scale is a little inconsistant, but the collection has figures that are hard or impossible to find in Heroclix. (Nick Fury, Night Crawler, 4 different Iron Man sculpts, Red Hulk, Gladiator Hulk) If you don't mind painting them they are beautifull scuplts.

Griffin, yours are painted beautifully. I hope mind come out as well.

Hi Adam,

Is there any chance of taking your set-up outside? Your photography is good (hey Bats you know what that means :p) but the lighting is too washed out & doesn't provide enough detail in it's definition. The light source needs to be more directional & less ambient (which is the part you were able to achieve Bats :p).

As to a group shot, no I don't want this I just want the figures photographed one after the other in the same location as the others but with a few different angles for each. This is so I can edit them individually & make adjustments to positions as required to make them fit in the small window of the card.

I tried repping you but it seems I have to spread the love around a bit more first.

Cheers

I thought he said he didn't want group shots, but instead wanted individual shots from different angles?

I think you're right, GO, but since there's focus on a different unit in each of these and they all have the same lighting, maybe they'll be usable?

Well if it was me, I'd want them completely separate so they could be cleanly cut out and positioned to show up properly on the card. Otherwise, it's very hard to make adjustments to get everything to line up in the picture window on the card.

Yeah ... so those might need to be done yet again. We'll see what A3n says, but you're probably right.
Hopefully he at least likes Professor X.

Well, A3N PM'ed me and asked for them to be together so that they would have the same lighting. I certainly hope he can work with these. If he lets me know today, I will have some time to re-take tomorrow if he just wants them in couples or something.

I think the call girl and the fireman make a nice couple. And the big guy and the young woman and child look nice together too. Maybe both couples could get houses in the same neighborhood and star in a sitcom.

Ah, glad to hear you and A3n are in touch. :-) That's the kind of communication we need to make this work. Sounds like things are probably on the right path. I look forward to seeing the end results of all this hard work from our photo department.

I was basing my comments off this post by A3n:

Is there any chance of taking your set-up outside? Your photography is good (hey Bats you know what that means :p) but the lighting is too washed out & doesn't provide enough detail in it's definition. The light source needs to be more directional & less ambient (which is the part you were able to achieve Bats :p).

As to a group shot, no I don't want this I just want the figures photographed one after the other in the same location as the others but with a few different angles for each. This is so I can edit them individually & make adjustments to positions as required to make them fit in the small window of the card.

I tried repping you but it seems I have to spread the love around a bit more first.

Cheers

Maybe Spidey and Adam can fly down to Australia once a week to have staff meetings with the Big Guy. They can expense the whole thing to C3G, at least until we get our own personal corporate jet, or John Stewart to fly them over. ;)

Hmm ... do you think eBay guy is planning on giving us a cut of his profits? :-P Or Kinkos? Or the mini base guy? Or our own sticker Baron, Mr. Cavalier?
I promise as acting President to funnel all of the revenue we get from those sources to good ends and holiday bonuses! :-P

I thought I was too. Maybe somewhere I said at the same time but if I did anywhere I was meaning same time of the day. But having said that I still would have worked with these except for one thing, you have cut off their legs again (meaning the ones in focus at the front). Sorry to ask but can take the civilians again please. If you need to prop up the figure to get the legs & feet in that's ok as long as you use something that is one consistent colour. I use white lego pieces to make a block for the character to stand on.

Professor X is good & I will have work on him either tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers

The local weather was pretty cloudy, or else I would have given it an outdoor whirl.

I really do think with another desk lamp, I could get the lighting right indoors.

I do most of my miniatures related madness after midnight, and it never seems to be sunny enough to take good pics then.

Well then at the moment you are maniacal with your miniatures, on my side of the world it would be perfectly sunny :p.

Ok I was about to prepare Prof X & the below photo looked like the one I was going to use until I clicked on it & saw it's covered in dust or something. Spidey what's all over the Prof? Can you clean him & re-shoot him again? Please & thank you.

Unfortunately the prof has a little bit of a super-glue problem, which I plan to paint over. Until such time though, I have tried here to play with the angles to make it less noticeable. Also retook Magneto, as I think his eyes in the current picture either are too large or covered by his hair.
