View Full Version : If you can ask a HS designer one question, what would it be?

My first inclination would be to say "When does Einar get war elephants?", followed by delivering a flurry of small blows if the answer is anything other than "very, very soon". I'd be tempted to mutter about line of sight and shoulder pads, but I don't think it would be very productive. And questions about possible Star Wars licences are bound to go ignored lest they fall foul of seriously restrictive NDAs.

But what question would you ask, and why?

My one question:

"How 'bout a game?"

Seriously? "How did it happen?" I mean, "Where did the idea come from?" "What inspired the game and its units?"

Basically the origni, where it comes from interests me.

I can tell you one unit. Morsbane was one of Rob's D&D characters.

Cool. I hadn't heard that before.

Given the chance, I would do that too.

My question would be long and complex, basically asking if they will ever have more transparency and a better official fan community like D&D minis or SW minis or Magic cards. I would love for the official site to build up to new releases in a big way, teasing us with card info and photos and articles every week until the big day arrives.

But that will never happen, I'm sure.....sigh.

I guess my next question would be if they could step up the releases and/or get on a really solidly fixed schedule that is official and posted well in advance....a calendar on the website that shows us when things are coming out months and months in advance.

I'd also like to see more stuff. Just more stuff in general. I think I could see a release schedule fixed in stone like this:

Early February: WAVE of four packs (at least one of which is unique)

Mid-April: .5 WAVE of three large boxes (at least one of which is unique)

Mid-July: WAVE of four packs (at least one of which is unique)

GenCon August: EXCLUSIVE promotional figure, also available through special mail-order or other offers

early September: .5 WAVE of three large boxes (at least one of which is unique)

mid-October: STORE-EXCLUSIVE or wide-released SPECIAL ITEM (such as castles, lava, or flagbearers)

mid-November: WAVE of four packs (at least one of which is unique)

I would also like there to be some sort of offical fan-club or something along those lines that you could sign up for the get a small quarterly newsletter by e-mail with scenarios and maps and news on upcoming releases. This fan-club would also be a way to get the GenCon exclusive without going to GenCon. For signing up, you'd also get a special fan-club exclusive figure. The fan-club would give you a coupon for discounts on HS product every once in a while, perhaps 5 bucks off on your birthday or something. Just a little way to reward their most loyal customers.

I would love to see some small calvary units (not tanks).
Sci-fi bikes for vydar (w/floaty bases)
two headed beasts for Ullar
Falcons, or small dyno's

Etc...

so the question would be.. will we see more calvary?

Will you ever release future waves instead of promotional figures?

Personally, I hope your question never happens, Point Blanks....I'd hate to get, say, Kee-mo-shi as a promo and then get a second one when I buy the pack of Wave Six. I want something I can use.

Yeah, when I was at Gen Con Rob went through basically all the army cards with me and explained the ones that had little easter egg like stories behind them. Want to hear more?

I'd ask them if I could join the design team! Going to work to play Heroscape? What a dream job! Though if I had to play the game hundreds and hundreds of times for playtesting, I might start to get tired of it... nah.

That, or I would work out a bargain where they could make a figure named for me, and I give them my first born child or something. That's an equal trade.

As a "completeist" I find it frustrating trying to buy all of the parts to this game that I love so much. Just knowing that there is a Nerak the swog rider or a Sir Hawthorne out there somewhere, and I cannot get my hands on them, drives me crazy. I even wish I could get this mythical sparkley water hexes. I feel that I will never be able to "complete" my game. It is as if you have designed an upside down airplane stamp on purpose. My question is...Do you think it would be possible to design a package for distribution that would contain figures that are limited in some way or retro like the water?

Can you please design some more interactive terrain like the castle door? (me likey!)

I'd prefer it, mostly because I don't have the dough to go to Con's or buy em at jacked up ebay prices. As suggested before, why not just give out unrealeased packs? The people there get dibs on some uber cool pieces, and all the "have nots" get to buy them later at Wally World.

My questions would be:

"Why won't you talk to us anymore?"

and

"Why did you kill the HS external playtesting program?"

I would ask what the horizontal and vertical scale is so that I can prove that you are wrong that the horizontal scale is 1 hex = 10 meters.

There was one a while ago, and the young girl who designed Kee-mo-shi was the winner.

I don't know if there will be another but I hope so. I'd love to see a more elaborate contest with age categories for 12 and under, 13-17, and 18 and over. Child, teen, and adult winners.
