Hello all,
There is a new poll up on www.heroscape.com (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/default.cfm?page=da), concerning the 5 generals.
If all 5 Valkyrie Generals were pitted against each other in an all out war, and every Army Card released to date was used, which Valkyrie General do you think would win?
The current results are thus:
Jandar - 17%
Utgar - 42%
Vydar - 2%
Ullar - 33%
Einar - 5%

I'd have to say Jandar, from sheer number.

I voted Utgar for sheer numbers of units they would have, not even considering army cards.
Vydar, which incidently is much farther behind, would be my pick to come in second. Range rules and they got it.

uh... isn;t this pretty much a known-answer poll?
The question provides the answer - whichever general has a significantly greater number of points in units.
I think that's Utgar by a landslide, isn;t it?

I voted Jandar! But Utgar would definitely be a candidate for No.1 spot! (points out obvious)!

Going by numbers, Utgar would probably out-last the other generals. It would be interesting to see how that battle would play out...

I assume they meant to say the armies were balanced in points via commons, but as the question is worded now Utgar all the way, no question about it.

Why is it than in all minis games the bad guys, evil looking one specially are produced in bigger numbers? Are people really that obsessed with evil looking characters?
I mean look at WH, everybody is evil in that universe it's depressing.

They're cooler looking in most games. More crazy monsters and whatnot.
And in the case of HS, I think Utgar is supposed to be the big dog.
But Einar is FAST catching up. Depending on the breakdown for Wave Six and whatever comes in 6.5 and 7, I predict Einar will be moving to solidify an advantage over Jandar. Who knows, maybe a year from now we'll all be complaining about poor forgotten Utgar. :-P
We know everyone's getting a flagbearer, we know that Einar is getting a samurai hero, some archers, and a squad of kyries. Einar is likely getting a kyrie warrior hero and that dwarf/viking, based on coloration, if nothing else. Utgar seems to be getting some orcs, a kyrie warrior, and kee-mo-shi. The ghosts are anybody's guess. Zombies look like they're for Utgar, but they're kind of up in the air too, or at least I think so.
Looks like Wave Six is split unevenly between Utgar and Einar, with a couple of wildcards in the mix yet to be determined.

I think:
Samurai, Kyrie, yellow kyrie, Dwarf are Einar
Zombies and ghosts are Vydar, though they could easily be Utgar
Orcs are Utgar
red kyrie is Utgar as well as keemoshi.

The Warhammer worlds (W40K and WFB) have very few, if any, "good guys". The worlds are dark on purpose. It's about survival in a heartless and ruthless universe, plain and simple...no time for altruism. Heck, the Emperor consumes 1000 souls a day to survive. I agree it's somewhat depressing but for a wargame, the background allows almost any type of team-up or conflict, even among forces from the same Army (Space Marine vs. Space Marine, Eldar vs. Eldar, etc.)
In most stories, having the "good" guys being under-the-gun or outnumbered adds a desperation but also drives the storyline. If they didn't feel pressured or a need to fight, the story would be dull, imo. I think the designers try to keep it simplistic since the target audience is 8 to 12 and really don't want a lot of dark and brooding stories. I kinda like it too. Heroes should be trying to do good (they aren't perfect) and the villians should be bad (and usually get the best lines)! :D

I've felt this way with Jandar as well. His forces are outnumbered compared to the bad guys and he needs help with alliances. Ullar and sometimes Vydar.

And sometimes Einar. Based on powers, Valguard is forced to team up with the Tarns if he wants to enhance anybody.
I know that will likely change, but for now, they're forced to work together. That's fun.

I think it will change with the new Orcs.....IMO.

the problem is how could such a battle play out.
Assuming only one of each figure the number of Starting places alone would be staggering, let alone the map-
There would most likely be units destroyed even before they could move with only 3 rounds/turn and 1 turn per General

I'd have to say Utgar and it's not even a close fight. If it was all of my Utgar units vs. all of another general's units, I think that game would be a slaughter.
My take on this poll is that they purposesly made Utgar stronger out of the gate and this poll may be being used to confirm that....not the other way around where they are trying to see if anybody can stand up to Utgar. Anybody else agree?

Well considering Utgar has a total of 2480 points right now if you include 1 of every hero and squad I think it is safe to say he would win. I mean Jandar is next in line and only has 1570 points, followed by Vydar at 1465, Einar at 1255 and finally Ullar at 1240. Hands down Utgar would win with almost 1000 more points then everyone else.
I think the poll question was worded wrong. I think they meant to ask who would win if all the Generals were pitted against one another and you could choose any of their army cards, but only until you reached a set point limit. If that is what they meant to ask the answer wouldn't be so cut and dry.
As for why Utgar has such a big lead right now, I agree with what others are saying. Not only that, the bad guys are usually potrayed as weak individuals who use numbers to try and win. The heros on the other hand are a small group, or a single person but they are much stronger then any of the bad guys individually. I recall seeing on tv heros often jumping into the thick of it with dozens of goons and always coming out on top.
Lastly the dwarf in wave 6 strikes me as Jandar more than anything. Einar thus far has no mythical creatures, they are all humans based on historical figures. The only exception is Valguard, who was based on a historical unit but given the lizard arm for some flare. On top of this Jandar has Vikings, which seem to sort of coincide with dwarves.

In my playing group we often have large battlle of around 1200 pt's per player and when we play with themed armies Ullar almost always wins.
An Ullar player only needs to park Syvarris and/or Dead-eye Dan on high ground and have Charos and Jotun stand in front saying "You ain't touching them.",Those 4 ARE an army :)

When i have all out battles with Jandar/Ullar/Einar Vs. Utgar/Vydar, J/U/E usually win by a landslide unless a figure like Mimring does alot of damage with Line of Fire or something similar!

Utgar. It's a no brainer the way the question is asked. He simply has the largest army. Here's the current standings...
Jandar - 15%
Utgar - 50%
Vydar - 6%
Ullar - 18%
Einar - 11%
