Not sure if this belongs here or in the Marvel news threads.

Who knows -- the way Disney likes to market everything, maybe there may be a chance for Marvel scape expansions? (probably not :( )

So, how long until PocahontaScape: The Battle for all the Colors of the Wind?
(This is assuming that people at Disney decide to pick up marvel heroscape... and then sell more properties to Hasbrizards).

Hmmm. Interesting.
I know that they showed some Marvel shows on Toon Disney (now Disney XD ) like Spiderman and maybe a few others, so Disney must have had some partial link to Marvel before.
So if Disney buys Marvel... :ponder:

Feels like really strange bedfellows.
I think Disney, I think Mickey Mouse, and Snow White, and other kiddie crap.
I think Marvel, I think Spider-man and the X-Men kicking @$$ and taking names.
-and no, I don't think this will lead to more Marvelscape.......
......allthough it could lead to Mickeyscape. :runaway:

Spiderman 4 will be a straight to DVD release with the same quality as the Tinkerbell movies. http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2007-06-21.
There may be more expansions for Marvelscape, but they will only be available at the Disney Store and be $25 dollars for one hero and one villain.

Hasbro owns the toy distribution rights, which they aquired from Toy Biz, which, I believe is still owned by Marvel.
Movie rights are owned by Fox, Sony, Marvel Productions.....
This is for the comic book rights, and maybe cartoon rights.

Saying "Hell" is quite mild compared to:
1) Aladdin telling Jasmine "Take off your clothes"
2) Spelling out S-E-X with grass and leaves in The Lion King
3) The cover of The Little Mermaid, and the excited priest
4) The nude woman in a painting in the background of The Rescuers
5) Disney's lame attempts at explanations of all of the above.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????!??!!!!!!!!!!! It's like the end of the comic book industry here! With DC on life support, Image killing every universe it has, Dark Horse actually thriving (the upcoming Sin City 2, the sequel/prequel to 300, the possibility of Hellboy 3), and now THIS??????? What will happen? Mass censorship? Marvel rides at Disney World? This at least kills Marvelscape, HeroClix, the Marvel TCG, the possibility of Ultimate Alliance 3, and the quality of all forthcoming Marvel movies.

As far as I know Invincible, The Walking Dead, Batman, and Green Lantern are still making money, so I'm covered. :-)
Invincible has found his weakness: Robert Kirkman.
I can no longer put up with comic books any more. DC is committing suicide. It's using its life force to kill Batman and resurrect Barry Allen. Marvel has just put itself in a precarious position.
One one hand, this could mean censorship, quality drop, and sucky, PG-rated superhero movies.
On the other hand, if the cartoons are handed over to Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, Jerry Bruckheimer directs most of the superhero movies, those are in the vein of Pirates, and Disney doesn't censor the content of the cmics but rather preents Marvel from pulling a DC and killing of majopr characters, then we're set.(PS: Blackest Night does not suck. It's DC's current best title. GO BLACK LANTERNS AND RED LANTERNS!!!!!!!!)

Hmm... If Square/Enix gets onbord with HS maybe we will be seeing a Kingdomheatscape... (Kingdom heats proves that Micky can Kick @$$ and take names too, Yoda Style.)
Lets see...
Malificant, Can sacrifice her single based form to summon her dragon form...
The skellitons from the Black Cauldren would be pretty sweat...
Kingdom Hearts versions of Donald and Goofy as well(Goofy armed with a sheild and decent defence and donald as a squishy mage)
Kingdom Hearts version of Pete(Large single hex figure with decent damage output)
All of the Gargoals and various enimes. I mean really Gargoyals alone would be a goldmine of worthy scape...
Then you have Buzz Lightyear and Alladin... Plenty of adventure type stuff to draw from there too...
Nightmare before Cristmass, Kim Possible, Resess, Tarzan, Atlantas the lost empire, Lelo and Stitch, Beuty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribean... Aside from the issues people might take with the cross licensing there are pleanty of chars that can swing a sword or claw the eyes out of something in their cannon.

For once I have to agree with Onacara. Things like this happen all of the time, there will not be anything "taken away" from the MU based on this.
Life will go on, and nothing will change. Disney might produce more marvel related cartoons, and add some things to their theme parks, but other than that, everything else will stay on the same path it has been on.
DC is owned by WB, and have been for some time, and things are still the same over there.

Well, the writing in comics is good enough that you wouldn't see "design" in a sentence twice. ;)

Exactly. I don't forsee this move changing too much about the comic books themselves. If anything, this will affect the marketing of the Marvel brand more than the content - Marvel merchandise may start becoming available at Disney stores, rides at Disneyland will incorporate the characters (not Disney World though, as Marvel apparently is still honoring its agreement with Universal Studios Theme Park), the Marvel Studios movies will have greater financial backing, etc...
Everyone just needs to chill out.

At Universal Orlando there's a whole area devoted to Marvel Superheroes...
Does that mean that Disney now owns 10% of its largest tourism opponent in Florida?
Sherman Davies

No - as I said in my above post, Marvel is honoring its long-term deal with Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Theme Park. Any Marvel rides for the forseeable future will only be in Disney parks outside of Disney World (ie: Disneyland in California, EuroDisney, etc...)

Here's the first thing I found that Disney may do
In their coverage of the Disney/Marvel deal, Entertainment Weekly dropped a cryptic bit of news which, if accurate, could be cause for excitement:
"Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an 'Ant-Man' movie."
As regular readers know, Marvel has been developing 'Ant-Man' for many years and, at one point, it was seen as part of the run-up to the 'Avengers' mega-film. Director Edgar Wright ('Shaun of the Dead') has been developing the feature for Marvel and has written a script. As recently as last July he said he aims to return to work on the screenplay after 'Scott Pilgrim' is done. EW offers no details beyond the above statement, so it's unclear how strong the interest is on Pixar's part, or whether or not Marvel is abandoning Wright's take in order to bounce to project to their new hit-making partners at Disney.
And so it begins. Maybe.

I really don't think this will effect Heroscape, except for the fact of no more Marvel Scape. Then, the movies will be the same, as well as the comics. I think they will keep the artists and writers, but just add stuff. Maybe a Mickey Mouse comic.

I really don't see why people think this matters so much. Did ABC or ESPN's content get worse or at all Disneyfied when Disney bought them? If anything, I'd say ABC's programing is the best of any network right now and ESPN has just gotten better with their programming over the years.

I think it comes from the movies that are being put out by Disney, and the drivel on Disney Channel. There is a fear that movies and TV shows will have that Disney taint that has been there for some time now.
IAmBatman
September 26th, 2009, 03:20 PM
Considering all the preexisting contracts, though, I don't think Disney can even produce a Marvel movie starring any of their major characters until something like 15 years from now anyway.
And Disney movies and TV shows don't suck because they took good material and ruined it. They suck because the material sucks.
Sherman Davies
September 26th, 2009, 07:00 PM
Disney doesn't need to produce their own Marvel movies. Buying Marvel includes buying Marvel Studios, which will just go on making its own movies in just the way they'd been planning to. I believe Marvel Studio's current slate (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers) will keep them occupied well into 2012.
As far as the movie side of the deal goes, I'm not that worried. Look at what happened to Pixar after Disney bought it - nothing, or at least nothing that the public could notice from the resulting movies. Wall-E and Up were pretty much the same kind of quality, all-ages entertainment that Pixar was known for before Disney bought them. If anything, Pixar has changed Disney more than the other way around, since it was John Lasseter and the others at Pixar that lobbied for the resurrection of Disney's 2D animation department, which is putting out Disney's first 2D cartoon feature (The Princess and The Frog) in years.

Not to worry.
A little research shows this chain of events::roll:
In 1988, Philip Morris (renamed Altria) purchased Kraft, and in 2000 it integrated the purchase of Nabisco into Kraft. Altria sold a small stake to the public in 2001, but maintained majority control until 2007, when the company was completely spun off as an independent company once again.
