I have never read this comic book series, but I am wondering if anyone here has and can give their opinion. Apparently, it is being made into a TV show.

The Walking Dead is one of the best comics out there. You should be reading it. There are 10 trade paperbacks out so far that collect the first 60 issues. The storytelling, the characters, everything about it is fantastic. I'm not sure if AMC can do the series justice. I would have preferred HBO. Guess we'll have to see.

One day I plan on reading/owning these. I've heard nothing but good about them and the little I've flipped through looked great!

You won't be sorry when you get them. It's the first comic I read the week it comes out. My biggest concern with AMC picking up the rights to do the show is will it be faithful enough to the comic. If it was a movie I guess it would be rated NC-17 because of the violence, gore, language and subject matter. It's not done for shock effect. It makes perfect sense in the setting it's used, but it's still pretty raw at times. I think HBO would have been ideal to show this. Any channel that can show OZ, Deadwood, Rome, True Blood, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, well, you get the idea, wouldn't have thought twice about the stuff that goes on in The Walking Dead. At least they're going to do Game of Thrones.

Here's something to ponder. Since it's a black and white comic, I wonder if the show will be filmed in black and white. Hmmm? Talk amongst yourselves.

Great series. I've read the first three hardcovers, and I've just started the 4th.

Honestly though, I hope the baby dies. The group doesn't need a baby dragging them down.

And when Glenn got shot in the Wal-Mart parking lot, I was like "Nooooooooooo!". But then I remembered he had the riot gear on. Phew.

I doubt anyone pirates comic books. The image quality would be terrible, and reading something online just doesn't have that same feel as physically holding the book.

Just check your library. They might have them. If not, Barnes & Noble/Borders will have them. Amazon.com would be a good place to look, they'll probably be cheaper even with shipping if you buy used.

EDIT: I just checked Amazon. All of the hardcovers are 18ish dollars used, not including shipping. They are $30 new, so you'll probably end up saving 8 bucks per book. So that's about $80-$90 for the whole series out so far, compared to $120 new.

I know what you mean. Just wait until you see what happens next. After the third trade I couldn't wait any longer for them to release the trades on the schedule they were coming out and started picking up the monthly book. That way I only go through Zombie withdraw for a month as opposed to half a year. Another cool thing about getting the actual comic are the letters. Kirkman's responses are pretty funny.

You can read the first issue on the Image Comics website in the online comics section.
