I know I am not the only one on this site who plays the guitar. I wanted to make this thread for the people who are guitarist, and working on songs/tabs, to freely post there progress. I was sor of t=doing this in the "music what are you listening thread", but it wasn't the right thread for that.
Right now I am learning
"Seek and destroy"-Metallica I've got to the intro riff.

I am trying to get this part memorized and set in stone before I move on.
I already have the next verse, but I am not very solid on it at all.
(its pretty easy but its a difficult transition at least for me)

I've taught myself how to chirp, like Tom Morello during Bullet in the Head. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_-QGNUYL5g
The chirping starts at 0:46. The way I do it is by simply running the slide on the high e string, above the pickups.

I'm doing a few things right now. The first is the Solo to "Rich Kid's Blues" by the Raconteurs and the other is "Wonderwall" by Oasis.

RCB's solo is really hard. I want to post the tab here for it, but the site isn't wide enough and it is all screwed up. Go on www.911tabs.com (http://www.911tabs.com) and look it up if you are intrested.

Wonderwall is a tricky acoustic song. Believe it or not, I suck with cords, and barring notes. I don't know why, but the music looks bent.
This is just the intro/first verse

I'm also trying teach myself the solo in "No Shelter" by Rage Against the Machine. I have the basics down, it's the matter of perfecting it!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some alternate tuning going on if the first two strings are the same notes throughout like that. It would make playing it much easier.

Update I got the transition to the main riff down,Its mostly just variations of those 3 parts for the rest of the song now. I should be able to get you a audio update soon.

Meanwhile I learned "Zombie" by the Cranberries. Its a very easy song, and sounds great!
all you really need to do for this song is know 4 chords.
these are the chords.
Fm, Db, G#, Gm. Repeat those over again, to the melody of the song. Its super easy, and a great song.

I thought so too, but in the bridge and in the last verse there are two or three times when you have to play an open B, with the last note being all strings open except for A and D. (2nd fret for them) For the intro/first verse though, it stays constant.

Another possibility then is that they did indeed do the alternate tuning, but they pulled out a standard tuned guitar for the bridge (or a double neck). Of course if you can nail the part as it is shown, you'll be a better player for it.

I just learned the intro to One by Metallica and I'm pretty proud of myself (three weeks of playing guitar).

I like playing Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden. I'm trying to learn at least part of Black Sunshine by White Zombie.

I'm working on South of Heaven (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/s/slayer/south_of_heaven_ver3_tab.htm) by Slayer off of ultimate-guitar.com, so it may not be 100% accurate.

Hey ultimate guitar is a pretty good website for a free music database. I learned at least 5 songs from there.

Nah. Droning a G and D on the E and B strings is a pretty common acoustic style when playing in G (or Em). Just lock your ring finger and pinky in place and have at it. Pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I've been working on some original material recently. I've got 3 full songs worked out, and three bits of songs that I like a lot. Most of the writing for one snippet and one song was done by my friend, but we play it together.

Oh, and for the record wonderwall is now a breeze to play.
