View Full Version : Armies you won't see at Gencon

Retlaw

There have been several posts asking for help in selecting armies to use at Gencon, or posts listing possible armies by event.

So, for some fun, post your thoughts on some armies you know you won't see at Gencon. For example:

War of the Worlds (400pts):

Kato Katsuro
Spartacus

Championship (500pts):

Kato Katsuro
Spartacus
Deathwalker 7000

Ok, now don't all use Kato and Spartacus since I already did the obvious/easy ones. What armies do you know won't be at Gencon?

Everyone knows that commons are what win tournaments:

Drones x 1 - 50
Glads x 1 - 130
Obsidian Guards x1 - 230
Grok Riders x 1 - 360
Arrow Gruts x 1 - 400
Deathstalkers x 1 - 500

Only problem is it's 25 starting spaces, so you'll have to drop a grut :)

For the championship:

Army - Ice & Fire
Dzu-teh x4 (300)
Obsidian Guards x2 (200)
Total - 500

I never did figure out why the Dzu-Teh are 75 pts and the Obsidian Guards are 100 pts -- the Dzu-Teh are actually playable on a map without glaciers (not necessarily very good, but they are playable); on the other hand, the Obsidians are hardly playable even on a lava map.

Championship.

Hulk & ironman.

I almost said "Championship doesn't allow Marvel", but then I remember my topic being "Armies you won't see..." Obviously an "illegal" army won't be seen. ;)

Why did they even make the gorillanators?

Try posting that in the BOOK of the Gorillinators.

I thought it was cause they needed a couple of crappy squads? If there tough worked on special attacks they would at least be playable sometimes

Haterz!!!

Gorillas w/Nakitas came in second place last year in the Capture Raelin event. (yes I am going to beat that drum until the end of time)

They should be somewhat playable with the Nakitas in the Capture the Flag event. Victory conditions are that you end a turn on your opponent's flag, unengaged. Any type of bonding army gets a value boost in that scenario.

Scenarios and special win conditions can make any unit effective.

Yeah, don't knock the gorillas until you try them. Gorillas and Nakitas on a castle map are pretty awesome. I didn't believe it either until I tried them -- they surprised everyone playing that night (was a large 4v4 game with a big castle in the middle and swamp/trees around it -- see some pictures in my map thread link in signature).

Never had to meet the point requirement, maybe I am just saving for the reinforcements in the finals.

Oh, in a special scenario that can be good, he he. I stand corrected. I have used them plenty to be honest and I love them and just wish they where a little tougher, but they are fast I will give you that.
